[Q] Stock ROM, correct country question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded the proper I9300 ROM I needed for France provider SFR from sammobile.
But when I finished unrooting and rebooted, all the software was in German. Until, of course, the screen where I was allowed to change the language. But how can I be sure this is the right ROM? This phone is being sent back to SFR and if they hard reset it and see German, I'm bound to have trouble. Is there some definitive way that I con confirm this is the right ROM?
Please help!

its showing the default language german because of csc code, even you flashed the correct rom, did you checked that you have the correct csc code, check for you initial csc code from kies, and change to real one, if its not the correct one.

The CSC code I have is I9300VFGEMD1. I don't have the original one. I was told that if I reflashed to the stock ROM I'd be ok. Obviously wrong. Can you tell me how I get this back to the right CSC? I'm currently unrooted, running the stock ROM, and still seeing 1 on my flash counter.
THANK YOU if you or anyone can help me out. I'm reading 4 different threads right now to see where I went wrong.

the best way is to go to firmware upgrade and initialization in kies, and find out your initial csc code. you can use my guide from this post to find out your csc code, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47054049&postcount=3. after knowing your csc code you can download the firmware for yours from sammobile, flash it and change the csc code to real one from app found in playstore..
First of all find your csc code, download the firmware and flash it than post again if that much works or not, if not you can use Samsung Galaxy S / S2 / S3 CSC app from google play, link to the app: http://goo.gl/sWDwI0. if you have already flashed the correct firmware than use the app i listed to change your csc code to initial one.

I'm more confused now than ever. "The app when run says Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
Here's what I've done so far...
- Started with rooted phone, custom ROM that may have had a kernel installed with it as well (not sure, dont remember)
- Following THIS, binary counter reset didn't work.
- Stock recovery through Odin worked fine
- Stock ROM through Odin also worked fine. Sammobile listed it on THIS page as the right ROM when I selected GT-I9300 and France SFR on the pulldown menus. Flashing that worked fine but it showed up in German.
- Binary counter is still 1. My proper CSC is MD1 which the ROM I flashed has.
If you can please tell me where I go from here to go completely back to a fully unrooted stock so I can give this phone back to the mobile provider, I'd appreciate it because nothing I'm doing seems to be working now. I'm sending the phone back to them as trade-in for a new one.

were u rooted or not? well first get rooted and use the app with root mode. i think u didn't read note provided that: Root mode is required only on newer xxella roms. your phone have to be rooted, u can unroot it later. after using root mode you can see what your current csc code is and also change it to others.. do that to change ur csc code. and again use trialngle away to make the flash counter zero, but don't let ur phone to reboot, remove battery instantly after the screen says rebooting and put the phone in download mode again and flash the firmware from odin. after this u will even get flash counter 0.

1. Sorry, but the first thing I said was that I "started with rooted phone".
2. I know what my CSC code is now, I found out with KIES. It's MD1. I already have the correct ROM
3. Triangle Away doesn't do this reeboot that everyone says. It just says that I'm running custom kernel or recovery. I tried after stock recovery and it still didn't reboot.
Thanks

well u r making me confused completely.. if u r rooted, cant u use that app in rooted mode to change the csc code? if u can use that do that first.. if u are not rooted now, root it first and use the app as i said.. after that use triangle away to make the flash counter 0. i know that there is something missing in the guide u used for triangle away..the missing thing is: when the triangle away finishes its work, don't let it to reboot, else it will again make the counter 1. so don't let it reboot, remove the battery after completing the reset counter step.. and again flash the firmware u downloaded.. everything will be fine if u do what i m telling. after doing what i tell, u will get flash counter 0, phone will be unrooted and also ur default language will be as it was for the first time u booted ur phone when u bought it.

I'm sorry, a misunderstanding I think. I was referring to what I have already done. But when I WAS rooted, I tried TriangleAway and it did NOT reboot like you say. It simply said I was on a custom recovery and that I had to get a stock recovery. I did the stock recovery and it STILL did not reboot.

Returning to stock...... Help plz

Hi all,
Need to return my s3 to stock, I've removed custom binary and flash count and flashed back to LE8 stock software, but messages app don't work and won't update through kies, I understand this may have something to do with the csc so I flashed a different one - got messages app working but still won't update so something must be wrong. It's on csc btu
Please help as I need to use the warranty, it's a uk phone purchased from carphonewarehouse unlocked and simfree
Check the phone bootloader update option in odin when you flash your stock firmware.

Try repeating these steps in order..
1. Use Triangle away and reset your counter
2. Download the latest BTU firmware which I think is LG8
3. Flash via Odin
4. Dial *#1234# and check whether all the 3 AP, CP and CSC are the same
5. otherwise change it to BTU
6. Then connect to kies and check whether it detects your phone correctly

With the state of your phone now, if you were to reflash a rom between the two, you would have to flash the odex version because it will have everything stock, while the other deodexed one might have one or two things taken out, I believe.
How on earth do these things happen if you followed the steps, i dont get it

Could be a bug somewhere, development in this device is still very small and new.
@OP, reflash stock as suggested, might be lucky and get your details back.
i just flashed a stock rom, no luck.
still no imei. is there anything else I could do?
Not sure if this is possible but use someones efs img and inject your own imei inside it. i wonder if this would work

I tried doing that on my old device with no luck, but it may work for him.
I had the exact same issue, unfortunately I had no success, I ended up sending my phone back to Telstra and getting a replacement
I have the i9305T from Telstra and I made the mistake of trying to install CF-Root 6.4 for the standard i9300. Once I did that I soft bricked the phone. I have been able to download the Telstra ROM from SamFirmware and install it and be able to get the ROM up and running again. I have lost the ability to connect to the mobile network. I can still use the phone to full capacity and even connect to wifi. I haven't be able to work out a way to repair the mobile network connection.
Can you suggest any ideas?

cool, i'm just waiting to get hold of original Everything Everywhere UK ROM before I do that.
OK, i've triangleaway'd my flash counter.
so now my phone in download mode reads:
Odin mode
Product Name: GT-I9305
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Now, it says samsung official as i used a foreign (to me) firmware from sammobile, i still want to change this to the everything everywhere ROM.
Why does system status still say custom? is it because i still have root? how do i remove it after i install the EE ROM?
The EE rom shouldn't add to the flash counter so i'll be OK to remove root then install it.

hello , i have sgs3.
few weaks ago it stoped working,
it shut down and when i tried to turn it on it was stuck on the SAMSUNG logo.
and its not charging the battery.
couldnt get into recovery mode, and when i got into download mode it shows
i had an original 4.04 samung israel rom, and never tried to change it or customizig it.
when i tried to get service from samsung israel , they saw the download mode and said that i tried to custom my rom and wrecked the phone.
and i DID'NT.
im trying to find out why do they think that, why is that line
"system status - custom" showed up?
i didnt try to custom.. can it be becouse of a physically problem in the phone?
please help me.
thank u, Amir

Thread moved to proper forum.
can that OTA change that line to "custom"?
Not really ota updates are official firmware so it should leave that as Samsung official the only way you'll get that to be custom is by rooting and flashing custom firmware.

Their have been some posts where users say OTA has changed it to custom .
I would argue this point with Samsung .
Or try flash stock firmware reboot and factory reset and see if it clears custom .

I doubt it; a stock (company based) build of Android has no customization in it, and the OTA updates install via recovery, therefore they "sneak past" the download mode. I mean (Please correct me, if I'm wrong, I've never [ever] done an OTA update on a Samsung Android device, so there's my XP gone.) but if you install software via CWM, it normally won't show up, in download mode, because they are two different parts of the system, and it basically thinks, that only original software gets installed via recovery (because obviously, not everyone on the world, knows what is possible with any computer.
So much from me
Hope I could help!

Try (Obv try this at your own risk, tho Odin is relatively safe)
Odin to flash a stock rom,
wipe everything (data,cache,dalvik).
Flash Siyah kernel,
use triangle away,
flash stock rom (to get rid of Siyah).
This should reset the counter to 0 and set everything to "Official".
I say to flash Siyah first because TA doesn't work all the time on the official kernels.
Next time, leave OTAs alone, just flash it in Odin when a new FW pops up on Sammobile
there is no option to flash a new rom .
few days ago i went to a lab and they said i need to change the motherboard..
it is too expensive so i didnt do it.
today i went to a different lab, they said (as i suspected from the beginning) that the flash memory is not working
and thats why in the 1st line there is no device name (should be i9300 )
and this is why the word custom is written in the last line..
my problem was that samsung israel declined my warrenty becouse they thought i flashed a rom , but i didnt.
so hopefully i can prove them that i didnt do it.
i'll see what happen tommorow when i get back my phone from the lab

[Q] Help pleaseee used odin by accident, cant figure out what to do

Hi,
Me and my partner both got s3's recently his on contract mine on like buy as you view. Mine received the 4.1.1 update through the phone and after waiting a few weeks and still nothing on his we decided to update it via computer. I used odin because i saw on a post that thats what you were supposed to use and flashed it to 4.1.1. I then realised i had put the wrong version on (German one i think) and it was causing errors so we flashed again to 4.1.1 the UK version.
He is now on:
Android version 4.1.1
Baseband version I9300XXDLID
I do not know if that's correct but everything seems a ok.
However since then my phone received the 4.1.2 update and we want the same update on his phone. It does not find it on the phone. Since then i learned KIES is the samsung software not odin. No updates can be found via KIES cos the software isn't supported. I want to be able to use KIES with his phone again, can i reverse the odin update anyway?? I rang samsung and he told me it will be like that forever now and i will never be able to use KIES?
Can anyone assist me. I really want ot be able to update from KIES again instead of using odin.
Sorry if i sound like a noob im only good with apple technology haha!!
(edit)
P.S. My software is
Android version 4.1.2
Baseband version I9300XXELLA
we are both on Orange if thats any help? His came on Ice Cream Sandwich though and mine came on 4.1.1

Any assistance would be great i am however just going to download some 4.1.2's today to try and fix it. I did notice however that when in download mode at the bottom it said something about multi CSC should it say this? LOL i wish i was more technologically savvy but i am literally only good at apple software. Wish id just waited Someone said to do one with BTU on the end and it should correct the CSC code? any idea if this is right?
I should however imagine it would delete all user data, people on other posts have said it was lost

im not bothered about loosing my user data but the option isnt there for me, it says phones that need this are listed below and the phone does not show. Not even if i put it in recovery mode. Any assistance would be great i am however just going to download some 4.1.2's today to try and fix it. I did notice however that when in download mode at the bottom it said something about multi CSC should it say this? Ok if u want the 4.1.2 update and u want to be able to use OTA i advise u to do flash the latest 4.1.2 room from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610 there is even a guide there how to flash it , if your device shows modified status after the flash just reboot into Android Recovery by holding Vol UP + Home + Power till you see Samsung Galaxy S3 displayed on screen , then u will see the recovery options, do a factory wipe and wipe cache then reboot and u should now be able to receive OTA updates .
I am also using the same room and all is working ok OTA shows no new updates but i think when the updates hits i will be able to get it via OTA , kies is not working but i think u dont need to worry about it because u can always flash via Odin .
Here is a guide how to flash a room with working Kies and OTA
First u need to root your device u can do this by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273
Edit: When u finish rooting u should use this app its called triangle away http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114 and use it to reset the counter .
When u are done with triangle away then download this on your phone it available on play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manniakk.cscselector&hl=en
Run it and change your CSC to BTU this will factory reset your phone after u done that u should flash the UK room from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
When u finish that u should boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset , you should now be able to use Kies .
I am not sure this will work 100% but it should , if u could remember what was the CSC and room before you flashed the devices with odin you could flash that firmware.
Tell me if it worked.

Have no choice but to move back to a standard / stock ROM

Hi All,
I need to move back to a stock ROM I hope at least 4.1 as my girlfriend has just had the offical upgrade from Samsung and the phone works really well.
The reason for having to go back to a stock ROM leaving no trace the phone was had anything else on it is due to one reason only.
I use the world pay card payment terminal with my phone and this requires an app to be installed on the phone. However this will not work as the phone has a non standard rom.
I have tried to discuss this in the following thread however it look like I have no choice but to go back to a standard ROM.
My main question here is to find out is it possible to go back to a standard ROM and leave no trace the phone had ever been touched? Will I also have to change anything else like Radio as well?
Hope this all makes sence and sorry to any mods that this this is in the wrong place.
Thanks
Mathew
You can make a full wipe for ur phone and install
a fresh system from sammobile.com using odin software
its very easy really but make sure when u start downloading the system software from the sammobile
to choose your country from it if u wanna be more precise on it
Ok but will that reset the Binary Count as I think thats what the App could be looking at?
Is there a way to do that I have a Jig but it does not seem to reset the count as I had hopped.

A standard firmware should leave the binary untouched and set as official instead of custom. Another way of resetting it is triangle away app but thta will still leave you rooted etc and probably stil cause the problems using the app you need

You are correct about the trinagle away app as it would still be rooted.
Currently the binary has 3 couunts on it when I install the standard firmware will this reset to 0?
Also will my phone remail unlocked on all networks?

the binari will be reset n Yellow triangel will be gone....
What about the Kernal will I need to change that as well?
And will this leave the phone unlocked to any network?
About the binary count, i'm not sure if flashing stock resets it fully since i haven't had stock for about a year or so
But i have been told that flashing a stock firmware will reset the binary count to 0. You can always try for yourself
How did you know what binary count you had? Triangleaway?

It should do, I've recently put my old s2 back to stock and it is now showing 0 on binary but I have read in the past that there may be a hidden counter on some phones, not sure if the s2 is one of them, so if possible try triangle away to reset it (chainfire did a work round to reset any hidden counters) then flash back to stock.

Use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter while your phone is still rooted, then flash stock rom with Odin. Stock phone with flash counter showing 'Samsung Official' & 'Custom Binary Download = 0'. Sorted.
Edit - Re: a hidden counter, you're being paranoid.
OK so we go with the following order
Step 1 - Reset Binary using triangle away app
Step 2 - Install Stock firmware from sammobile.com
Step 3 - Should I do somthing with the Kernal as this is not stock?
If you knew the basics (as opposed to jumping in without knowing the 'how & why'), you'd know stock rom packages contain stock kernels, which overwrite any kernel you're currently running (just as the stock rom within said package replaces whatever rom you're currently running).

I did not know that thanks for letting me know.
So this means once I install the stock ROM the Siyah Kernel 4.1.5 will be removed and use the one included in the stock correct?

You have the answer already, and now i just made it more clear (not that it wasn't clear before)
No need to repeat the question over and over again..
OK I have now re-set the Binary now I just need to pick the stock ROm and install.
However once I do this will the phone remain unlocked to any network?
