Hi all,
Need to return my s3 to stock, I've removed custom binary and flash count and flashed back to LE8 stock software, but messages app don't work and won't update through kies, I understand this may have something to do with the csc so I flashed a different one - got messages app working but still won't update so something must be wrong. It's on csc btu
Please help as I need to use the warranty, it's a uk phone purchased from carphonewarehouse unlocked and simfree
Check the phone bootloader update option in odin when you flash your stock firmware.

Try repeating these steps in order..
1. Use Triangle away and reset your counter
2. Download the latest BTU firmware which I think is LG8
3. Flash via Odin
4. Dial *#1234# and check whether all the 3 AP, CP and CSC are the same
5. otherwise change it to BTU
6. Then connect to kies and check whether it detects your phone correctly

Hello,
I put the stock firmware of my S3 for the waranty but now I have an "CSC : unknown"
I have tried many firmware but can not restore the situation !!
Do you have an idea?
Thank you in advance
go to the phone dialer and input : *#272*(IMEI)#
Then choose your default CSC.
The phone will reboot and reformat your phone, so make sure all data has been backed up.
Thanks for your reply..but i have only one CSC "AUT"
I try another stock firmware !
Stock roms thread CSC post flash CSC .

I tried this when I used the suggested firmware downloaded from Fuscheck (BTU) I'm on O2.
When I typed it in on the keypad I got BTU displayed, clicked it and install, then I got an error saying something like 'must be at least THREE'
It won't install I managed to resolve the situation by downloading and flashing a firmware from Sam-Mobile, but I don't understand my issue, every time I want to upgrade my firmware I have to completely wipe the phone,. (OK I have titanium backup) but that's not the point. Surely there is a way of ODIN flashing a new firmware then re-rooting, without factory reset every time.
Is Fuscheck the best place to get the firmware upgrade?
Any suggestions/ ideas on my situation would be grateful, I can't really be spending half a day trying to unbrick the phone every time there's a update
Joe
You can download roms from www.sammobile.com/firmware. Thats where I get them from. Install with Odin v3 3.0.4.
If you are rooted you can flash firmware with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root.

Thanks for that. Helpful post.
I normally use Odin on my PC, and just flash through PDA.
I am rooted so is it just a case of flashing firmware from Sammobile then rooting the phone again (I use CF Root)
I got a Galaxy S3 around a week back. The CSC was set to COA and it was running the old firmware. KIES used to show the current and latest firmware.
I have updated to the XXALF2 using ODIN and also set the CSC to BTU. However KIES does not show the lastest firmware anymore. Just the current firmware. Does that mean, KIES wont be able to update my phone?
i have done exactly the same & getting the same result in kies, i think you have to be on unmodified rom without flash count triggered? i could be wrong though
Right after the flash. My CSC was set to KOR. However I changed it to BTU using *#1234*IMEI*. I was getting the message that KIES cannot update the firmware when it was on KOR. That message seems to have gone.
This problem is quite confusing.
i flashed mine with stock LF2 BTU but kies states "your device does not support upgrading via kies"
and my CSC shows "CSC:LF2 (H3G)" is this normal?
Hmm. I had that message on KIES when my CSC changed to KOR. After changing it to BTU, that message was gone.
Initially - XXALE8 -COA (KIES showed the version the phone and the latest version).
After flashing - XXALF2 -KOR (KIES states that it wont be able to update firmware).
Now - XXALF2 - BTU (KIES does not show the latest firmware. Just the one on the phone).
I got this problem too i think it`s bcuz i rooted my phone..i have stock firmware btw
I have seen that on a few forums that rooting might trigger that. However I am on the stock firmware only. I haven't rooted my phone.
sry for double post but i fixed my problem
the only thing i had to do was to reset the counter with triangle away
Where is this triangle located?
anyone with rooting experience explain what the problem is or is this normal after rooting?
should i have only flashed PDA & not PHONE & CSC or is that not possible?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
here u can find triangle away all u have to do is install the app and then press reset counter after u open the app
then it will reboot and then u have to press the volume up button to reset the counter
sry for my english
Do I need to root my phone. If so, how and how can I unroot it after using the application?
if ur not rooted u dont need to run triangle away bcuz ur counter is set to 0 by default
there must be another solution for you...just wait to somebody else answer..
i thought even flashing stock with odin without root still bumps up the flash counter?
So I have managed to fix the problem. Here's my solution.
1) Root the phone.
2) Run the triangle away application to reset the counter.
3) After that's done, wipe the data on the phone (volume up+home+power button) and select the options:
a) wipe data/factory reset
b)wipe cache partition
c) advanced - wipe dalvik cache
4) Remove battery.
5) Put the battery back in and hold (volume down+home+power button).
6)Start ODIN and restore to the firmware that was ON THE PHONE.
7)Reset the phone to default after thats done.
I did that and now KIES is back to normal for me. And now it show XXALF2 (BTU).
How do you fix it & keep root?

Ive rooted using cfroot and kies is still recognising my phone for updates
Although i have not done anything but root
Kies upgrade depends onan actual upgrade for the firmware being on the server .Also the phone codes you present it matching firmware on the server.Root may or may not alter such codes.
Solution ignore Kies join XDA and learn how to flash or download stock firmware .

Sorry guys, changed CSC to BTU using *#272*IMEI# all good now, kies shows my firmware & latest available also shows my device status as "Normal" NOT "Modified"!
I have done this by mistake in the past using odin but I can't understand why it didn't work.
I have now a phone from Australia apparently and kies is not very helpful. I already have the BTU ELLA update but I'm not sure if it would work flashing that with odin. In the past it didn't work and I had to reflash the correct update.
Am I supposed to flash more than just the PDA?

No, just place the correct rom in PDA and flash it. The phone however has a specific sales code and if the installed firmware differs from the device`s country code Kies will not support updates. Only if you have the correct regional rom for your S3.
Thanks.
In the past I had used a BTU Tom instead of the vodafone specific on a i9300 and it had lost the notification bar and touzhwiz crashed.
Once I installed the vodafone specific rom it went back to normal.
I have now come across the ELLA update on a Australian import s3 and just flashed it with kies. Trouble I have with that now is that the bottom shortcuts somehow are stuck and wont be replaced. I will try and reflash the rom tomorrow with odin and if it doesn't work I'd like to try the international version of 4.1.2.
Did you wipe your device after flashing the firmware?
Some carriers do only than little modifications to the device and may cause incompatibilites with the standard roms.
How do I do a complete wipe?

Go to settings, backup and restore and do a data facory reset.
Ah you mean a factory data reset.
When I do that the australian version adds 2 apps which are easily removed and I cannot see anything else there. I also have another issue.
Odin 3.04 does not see my phone. Only odin 1.85 can.
But even that version says that the md5 file I downloaded from sammobile is invalid.
I am going to try this with mobile odin
Right
Tried the btu version with mobile odin and again have the same issue. Notification panel is gone and the touchwiz doesn't work properly.

You have to reset after you flashed the rom. Did you reset the flash counter with Triangle Away?
Update
Retried the btu md5 but selected to wipe data and cache from mobile odin pro.
It seems to be working now
I downloaded the proper I9300 ROM I needed for France provider SFR from sammobile.
But when I finished unrooting and rebooted, all the software was in German. Until, of course, the screen where I was allowed to change the language. But how can I be sure this is the right ROM? This phone is being sent back to SFR and if they hard reset it and see German, I'm bound to have trouble. Is there some definitive way that I con confirm this is the right ROM?
Please help!

its showing the default language german because of csc code, even you flashed the correct rom, did you checked that you have the correct csc code, check for you initial csc code from kies, and change to real one, if its not the correct one.

The CSC code I have is I9300VFGEMD1. I don't have the original one. I was told that if I reflashed to the stock ROM I'd be ok. Obviously wrong. Can you tell me how I get this back to the right CSC? I'm currently unrooted, running the stock ROM, and still seeing 1 on my flash counter.
THANK YOU if you or anyone can help me out. I'm reading 4 different threads right now to see where I went wrong.

the best way is to go to firmware upgrade and initialization in kies, and find out your initial csc code. you can use my guide from this post to find out your csc code, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47054049&postcount=3. after knowing your csc code you can download the firmware for yours from sammobile, flash it and change the csc code to real one from app found in playstore..
First of all find your csc code, download the firmware and flash it than post again if that much works or not, if not you can use Samsung Galaxy S / S2 / S3 CSC app from google play, link to the app: http://goo.gl/sWDwI0. if you have already flashed the correct firmware than use the app i listed to change your csc code to initial one.

I'm more confused now than ever. "The app when run says Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
Here's what I've done so far...
- Started with rooted phone, custom ROM that may have had a kernel installed with it as well (not sure, dont remember)
- Following THIS, binary counter reset didn't work.
- Stock recovery through Odin worked fine
- Stock ROM through Odin also worked fine. Sammobile listed it on THIS page as the right ROM when I selected GT-I9300 and France SFR on the pulldown menus. Flashing that worked fine but it showed up in German.
- Binary counter is still 1. My proper CSC is MD1 which the ROM I flashed has.
If you can please tell me where I go from here to go completely back to a fully unrooted stock so I can give this phone back to the mobile provider, I'd appreciate it because nothing I'm doing seems to be working now. I'm sending the phone back to them as trade-in for a new one.

were u rooted or not? well first get rooted and use the app with root mode. i think u didn't read note provided that: Root mode is required only on newer xxella roms. your phone have to be rooted, u can unroot it later. after using root mode you can see what your current csc code is and also change it to others.. do that to change ur csc code. and again use trialngle away to make the flash counter zero, but don't let ur phone to reboot, remove battery instantly after the screen says rebooting and put the phone in download mode again and flash the firmware from odin. after this u will even get flash counter 0.

1. Sorry, but the first thing I said was that I "started with rooted phone".
2. I know what my CSC code is now, I found out with KIES. It's MD1. I already have the correct ROM
3. Triangle Away doesn't do this reeboot that everyone says. It just says that I'm running custom kernel or recovery. I tried after stock recovery and it still didn't reboot.
Thanks

well u r making me confused completely.. if u r rooted, cant u use that app in rooted mode to change the csc code? if u can use that do that first.. if u are not rooted now, root it first and use the app as i said.. after that use triangle away to make the flash counter 0. i know that there is something missing in the guide u used for triangle away..the missing thing is: when the triangle away finishes its work, don't let it to reboot, else it will again make the counter 1. so don't let it reboot, remove the battery after completing the reset counter step.. and again flash the firmware u downloaded.. everything will be fine if u do what i m telling. after doing what i tell, u will get flash counter 0, phone will be unrooted and also ur default language will be as it was for the first time u booted ur phone when u bought it.

I'm sorry, a misunderstanding I think. I was referring to what I have already done. But when I WAS rooted, I tried TriangleAway and it did NOT reboot like you say. It simply said I was on a custom recovery and that I had to get a stock recovery. I did the stock recovery and it STILL did not reboot.

I believe as long as you do a full clean flash, the software update will function normally. By full clean flash I mean flashing the CSC and not HOME_CSC, and flashing userdata if that was included in your firmware, although I'm not sure if that part affects this or not. But the CSC, which will wipe your data by the way, should set everything straight I believe. It has worked for me.

Oh, you said you flashed the firmware package, so did it have four or five different files inside the package, like AP, BL, CSC etc? You put each file in the respective slot in Odin, and instead of using HOME_CSC, use CSC, which will wipe your data but it will line up the customer code with the firmware so that updates should work as normal.
