I have done this by mistake in the past using odin but I can't understand why it didn't work.
I have now a phone from Australia apparently and kies is not very helpful. I already have the BTU ELLA update but I'm not sure if it would work flashing that with odin. In the past it didn't work and I had to reflash the correct update.
Am I supposed to flash more than just the PDA?

No, just place the correct rom in PDA and flash it. The phone however has a specific sales code and if the installed firmware differs from the device`s country code Kies will not support updates. Only if you have the correct regional rom for your S3.
Thanks.
In the past I had used a BTU Tom instead of the vodafone specific on a i9300 and it had lost the notification bar and touzhwiz crashed.
Once I installed the vodafone specific rom it went back to normal.
I have now come across the ELLA update on a Australian import s3 and just flashed it with kies. Trouble I have with that now is that the bottom shortcuts somehow are stuck and wont be replaced. I will try and reflash the rom tomorrow with odin and if it doesn't work I'd like to try the international version of 4.1.2.
Did you wipe your device after flashing the firmware?
Some carriers do only than little modifications to the device and may cause incompatibilites with the standard roms.
How do I do a complete wipe?

Go to settings, backup and restore and do a data facory reset.
Ah you mean a factory data reset.
When I do that the australian version adds 2 apps which are easily removed and I cannot see anything else there. I also have another issue.
Odin 3.04 does not see my phone. Only odin 1.85 can.
But even that version says that the md5 file I downloaded from sammobile is invalid.
I am going to try this with mobile odin
Right
Tried the btu version with mobile odin and again have the same issue. Notification panel is gone and the touchwiz doesn't work properly.

You have to reset after you flashed the rom. Did you reset the flash counter with Triangle Away?
Update
Retried the btu md5 but selected to wipe data and cache from mobile odin pro.
It seems to be working now

Hello,
I put the stock firmware of my S3 for the waranty but now I have an "CSC : unknown"
I have tried many firmware but can not restore the situation !!
Do you have an idea?
Thank you in advance
go to the phone dialer and input : *#272*(IMEI)#
Then choose your default CSC.
The phone will reboot and reformat your phone, so make sure all data has been backed up.
Thanks for your reply..but i have only one CSC "AUT"
I try another stock firmware !
Stock roms thread CSC post flash CSC .

I tried this when I used the suggested firmware downloaded from Fuscheck (BTU) I'm on O2.
When I typed it in on the keypad I got BTU displayed, clicked it and install, then I got an error saying something like 'must be at least THREE'
It won't install I managed to resolve the situation by downloading and flashing a firmware from Sam-Mobile, but I don't understand my issue, every time I want to upgrade my firmware I have to completely wipe the phone,. (OK I have titanium backup) but that's not the point. Surely there is a way of ODIN flashing a new firmware then re-rooting, without factory reset every time.
Is Fuscheck the best place to get the firmware upgrade?
Any suggestions/ ideas on my situation would be grateful, I can't really be spending half a day trying to unbrick the phone every time there's a update
Joe
You can download roms from www.sammobile.com/firmware. Thats where I get them from. Install with Odin v3 3.0.4.
If you are rooted you can flash firmware with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root.

Thanks for that. Helpful post.
I normally use Odin on my PC, and just flash through PDA.
I am rooted so is it just a case of flashing firmware from Sammobile then rooting the phone again (I use CF Root)
Hi all,
Need to return my s3 to stock, I've removed custom binary and flash count and flashed back to LE8 stock software, but messages app don't work and won't update through kies, I understand this may have something to do with the csc so I flashed a different one - got messages app working but still won't update so something must be wrong. It's on csc btu
Please help as I need to use the warranty, it's a uk phone purchased from carphonewarehouse unlocked and simfree
Check the phone bootloader update option in odin when you flash your stock firmware.

Try repeating these steps in order..
1. Use Triangle away and reset your counter
2. Download the latest BTU firmware which I think is LG8
3. Flash via Odin
4. Dial *#1234# and check whether all the 3 AP, CP and CSC are the same
5. otherwise change it to BTU
6. Then connect to kies and check whether it detects your phone correctly

Hi,
I just unrooted my phone Galaxy S3 and install original rom for my country.
Everything is fine except kies does not show any firmware information on firmware section..
Why this happens and what can I do for this?
Thanks
I had that as well after reflashing a backup. I reflashed the stock rom through odin without a wipe and it worked fine after that.

it is possible that your csc doesn't match to your firmware. you can only make kies updates if phone, pda, csc match together.
if this is not the reason you can try to uninstall, clean your registry and install kies again.

I all,
I am having problems with the CSC on my wife's SGS3. She was sent a German version S3 (twice) as a replacement for a damaged phone from her insurance company.
This has a CSC code of DBT
As the CSC list (using *#272*imei#) only contained DBT, I flashed the phone using odin with official LLA-JellyBean (CSC-Code BTU) so I could put it as a UK handset.
Now when I plug it into kies i get this:
YOUR DEVICE'S CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION IS NOT SUPPORTED TO UPDATE FIRMWARE VIA KIES
CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION: PDA:LLA / PHONE:LLA / CSC:LLA (DBT)
(Cant remember off hand what it was but it wasn't LLA prior to the flash)
I have tried all i can think of to correct this.
When i run the *#272 thing it comes up:
USSD CODE RUNNING
then:
UNKNOWN APPLICATION
I have tried the Samsung Galaxy S / S2 /S3 CSC app from play store, again I get message when I run it:
UNKNOWN APPLICATION
I have gone into recovery mode and get the following (in yellow beside the droid icon):
#MANUAL MODE#
--APPLYING MULTI CSC
APPLIED THE CSC-CODE: DBT
SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED MULTI-CSC
I have also tried WIPING DATA CACHE and FACTORY RESET from recovery mode
None of this has made any difference, (all done in the order as I have listed it above) please could somebody point me in the right direction before I pull out what remaining hair I have left.
Download the latest stock full rom for UK and Europe XXEMB5 from one of the below and flash via odin. then carry out a factory reset.

I have tried this but the flash failed. I have also tried to re-flash the LLA version I had put on previously
Odin says the COM Port cannot be opened

Thank you djembey. Rather than uninstall kies and risk losing backups (couldnt be bothered to find files and move them) including for my own S3, I ran the flash from my wife's laptop. I plugged phone in first so drivers installed then phone flashed successfully.
However the CSC has remained DBT even though I flashed the BTU version

I think there is somewhere a thread with flashable csc packages or you could try the csc changer app (will format your phone though).
This might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080181

Is there a way to go back to the factory firmware it came with through smart switch or.... how do i find the correct firmware to flash with odin? Because i dont have any version details from before...
Please help!

I believe as long as you do a full clean flash, the software update will function normally. By full clean flash I mean flashing the CSC and not HOME_CSC, and flashing userdata if that was included in your firmware, although I'm not sure if that part affects this or not. But the CSC, which will wipe your data by the way, should set everything straight I believe. It has worked for me.

Oh, you said you flashed the firmware package, so did it have four or five different files inside the package, like AP, BL, CSC etc? You put each file in the respective slot in Odin, and instead of using HOME_CSC, use CSC, which will wipe your data but it will line up the customer code with the firmware so that updates should work as normal.
