[Q] Screen brightnes/luminosity difference - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently purchased Xperia tablet Z, and I have been observing difference in brightness of screen as top of the screen(near SONY logo) is brighter than bottom portion which is a little bit hazy and dull as compared to top of screen.(I am still on 4.1.2, dont want to upgrade as placement of soft buttons has been shifted in middle than left corner)
Upon contacting Xperia care and they asked download Xperia™ Diagnostics and run Display test.
When the Screen is white for 10 seconds this difference becomes more visible and prominent.
Can anybody confirm is it observable in all units or its just my unit that is faulty :crying: .

I think I saw your question over on the Sony support forum -- here's my answer:
I may have a related issue; the "top" quarter-inch or so my screen is barely dimmer than the rest of the display. Like your device, this is only noticeable on white or evenly colored screens when holding the table in portrait orientation. My first Xperia Tablet Z had this issue, I exchanged it, and the second one had the same exact issue. I'm otherwise happy with the device and since this is only really noticable under specific conditions I've decided to accept it ...

Same on mine... I had it sent to service but they said that its not faulty...

SE X10i Screen burns. Check yours now!!!

hi im a bit worried on my screen right now because ive notice some yellowish part on my x10 screen but it is only visible on white back ground.
it is located on the bottom part and few at the right side of the LCD...
could this be a possible screen burns? is it even possible in a normal LCD? because i thought screen burns only occur in those super amoled screens..
but you cant notice it when there is background color other than white..
anybody also suffer from this?
(use skyfire and go to a blank page in order to have a full white background)
I think there are only shadows of the led on the upper and downside of the display...the display isnt getting hot... just my thought...
send from my x10 using Rendeiro's 2.2.1/Cyanogen6.1.3
Last time i checked it wasnt possible to screen burn a phone, it would have to get really hot. Computer monitors do it but they are plugged into a socket, where as phones arnt that heavily used (compared with a monitor). LCD screens are supposed to be "immune" from them as they use a different method to get the display working
So no i doubt it will be screen burn

screen burns is possible in mobile phones..(one of my dilemma when i had my samsung wave s8500..i suspected it as a screen burn because its quite similar to what happen to my samsung wave...is there any screen test like in samsung wave where you can test the lcd with different colors so you can distinguish what color is burning your screen?
I want to ask, how does one burn his screen (on 2 phones no less)?
full brightness and lots of blue colors in background....

Lucky you, i have a "dead pixel", green one.
And a yellowspot in the rightbottom corner, but that'll fade over time. (i hope)
I'm glad that the screen has a very high resolution, it's really hard to even notice the dead pixel.
I have noticed a yellowish tinge at the bottom of the display. Only really notice it when there is a white background. Is it likely that the display is somehow faulty??

I have the exact same, a yellowish spot in the bottom right corner.
I hoped it was the same problem as the iphone or SGS2.
They say the yellowspot is from the glue that they use to stick the screenlayers together, but it needs time to vaporise and should go away over time.
But I have my phone now almost a week and i still get the spot back now and then.

+1.
I've the same problem. I checked with service centre and they say it's software issues, which I can't believe.

Lol software problem :')
Sounds like bull**** to me.
I had contact with T-Mobile today, about the dead pixel and yellowspot.
The guy told me he's going to get information for me, and see if they can replace it. he'll send me an email later.
Same hear.
Barely visible yellowish (only on whites) at the bottom part of the screen.
It varies depending on the view angle.
Perfect screen here

Lucky you! I'm still waiting for update from Sony! Will see if they can replace the unit.
I also noticed that at times the yellowish spot disappears and appears back again! I wonder what it could be!!

Ah you are the guy from the T-Mobile forum (Hiraj) with 5 dead pixels.
Anyway they told me it's in stock again next week (Monday 19th)
Just noticed that my screen keeps flickering, this is more noticeable on white backgrounds, is this normal as in the auto brightness or should I be worried?

Hi guys just wanna update you regarding screen issues.
I've spoken with people on the forum of my country, other 2 guys with Xperia S and both of them got that really barely visible yellow tint on the bottom part of the screen (also, one of these guys has 2 Xperia S -him and his brother- and both of them have that tint).
Really difficult to explain it on forums (nothing compared to the GS2 yellow tint) because it's really hard to see and only visible on white/clear colors uniform backgrounds, but according to what I'm seeing it's a common issue, not a problem of a single faulty unit.
Got a blue/whiteisch pixel to the top right of my screen
They said i need to have more then 3 to get a new phone :/`
Can i fix this ?

I have the problem too. I called technical team dept from where i bought the phone, and they asked me to do a screen test over the phone. I tap the screen it shows all white, tap again red, green etc etc. He asked me if i could see a yellowish tinge running across the bottom of the display when these colours appeared on the display which i couldn't to be honest. I took it back to the shop, and i dont know if it has to do with the bright lighting within the store, but it didn't show up hardly at all, barely noticeable. It seems less noticeable in a well lit environment, or outside as opposed to when i am at home where it i notice it more. It is midly annoying, but this shouldn't be the case.
Can anyone throw any light as to what this could be??
Thanks

I believe that yellowish tint has something to do with warmth from the screen or the battery or the screen staying on for a longer time or something or something.
because when I'm using it alot, playing games, browsing, whatsapp etc etc. for like an hour. It gets more visible.
And then it's from "barely noticeable" to "hard to miss"
I can clearly see it on Grey (notification slide down) or Blue (startscreen DrawSomething) or White.

Same here. Interesting what you say. I would still like to know where the consumer stands on this issue, and if Sony themselves would recogonise if this is a somehow a fault with the display. My Arc had no such problems.
Hi guys,
I'm new here, but I was reading the threads on the S from the start.
Reading through the screen problems I was thinking about the following:
The Xperia S's screen is glued- as I know -, like for example the iPhone4/4s'. Some i4 users noticed this yellowish tint as well, and they've came to a conclusion it was because of the glue what was used to put the screens together and it disappeared after about 1,5-2 weeks.
This could explain the reaction to temperature differences too.

[Q] Visable Digitizer Grid

Having read of all the quality issues of the Z2 I am now overly concerned to make sure that mine is as it should be.
Build quality is spot on, speakers are great and screen is excellent.
The only thing I want to check is whether it is normal to be able to clearly see the digitizer grid on the screen when turning it to an angle with light shining on it.
Having been used to AMOLED screens for the last few years this type of screen is new to me so am wondering whether it is just part of the technology used for the screen.
Any piece of mind is appreciated.

I have noticed that yesterday when using it on bright sunlight. At certain angle you can see small dots. It isn't too bad, though...

I had s3 before and I only see screen matrix in both devices.
Gesendet von meinem D6503 mit Tapatalk
I have a Nexus 4 right now which has an IPS display and I can say that I can see my digitizer grid when in direct sunlight. I'll be receiving my Z2 in a few weeks and I would expect it to be the same.
Thanks guys for your wisdom. I did think it may have been due to the technology used rather than a defect but wanted a second opinion.
By the way it is a fantastic phone [emoji6]

I also have this and it's slightly annoying. I think I'll just let it go
Have found a solution to the grid issue...throw away the Sony supplied screen protector and put a different one on.
It seems the Sony supplied one has a matte finish which as well as making the screen look dull it also shows up the grid lines.
Have just changed it for a cheapo one and the grid lines are barely visible and the screen is a lot more vibrant
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
I thought they dropped the screen protector on the z2; I'm talking about the plastic film with the Sony logo printed.
Can you give me some precisions ?
You're correct, there is no plastic film with the Sony logo on the Z2 but they do give you a screen protector in the box. It seems to be an anti glare one that I found considerably dampens the quality of the screen.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Ok thanks
I didn't notice the screenprotector in my box.
Just wrote a lengthy message but tapatalk somehow messed it up.
I'll just say that I don't use a screen protector and I can see the grid in bright lighting (basically anywhere in public, schools, malls etc.), and in direct sunlight I also see the dots.
I compared the screen with a S4, S3, iPhone 5S and C and some other cheaper phones, and the grid wasn't visible in any of them. In that lighting I could however see the grid and the dots in my Z2's screen. Not pleased. Also a friend with a nexus 5 said he has no such problems.
I think I can see the grid way too easily. In bright light and brightness at 100% I can see them even when the screen is on when the phone moves and catches a ray of light.
The next few days will determine wether I can live with this issue or nor. At the moment it isn't looking so good.

screen flickers with lines of . . . . . . randomly.

anyone else seen their phones just start showing lines of dots across the screen randomly, particularly under high brightness? nothing funky is turned on in developer's settings so I doubt it's software.
I'm using autobrightness, it bothers me a little. hardware problem ythink? should I take it to Sony?

You're seeing the touch sensors that are built in to the screen. I've seen them on every capacitive LCD phone I've had at times, but they are definitely more noticeable on the Z2. Exchanging it won't help, sorry.

well if it's nothing to worry about, it's all good.
Seen the exact same thing on mine. Even when it's not that bright you can clearly see the digitizer (is that right?). it's that visible you can see it's made up of columns of tiny rectangles. It's worse on a dark background or when the screen is off. And those dots appear more when direct sunlight hits the screen. Luckily it's not just me either then, thought I'd got a duff phone!
Should have seen the z1 digitizer, crazy amount of zigzag lines all over the place.

same thing w/ z ultra
Z2 screen flicker with vertical lines
I think I have the same problem with my new xperia z2 phone.
It happens several times per day (more than 10 times). The screen shows vertical lines, across the screen. I can see the pixels in the line. Also the colors change. All this for less than a second and then everything return to normal.
I wondering if this is a hardware or software problem, and if it can be fixed or no.
Thanks
Same story on my Z (6603), been an issue since day 1, under sunlight its annoying but not much u can do nor nothing to stress about

[Q] [HELP] I do not know if this tiny light on front screen is normal ?

I just purchased a new Xperia Z2 (D6503), everything worked fine.
But I noticed there is a tiny bright light/spot looks like this "-", about 1-2 mm long, located at the left corner of the bottom bezel (which is all black) on the front screen. It is most noticeable when the screen is on. When the screen is off, this tiny light is also off, just looks grey.
I wondered what this light is for , and found no results in the user manual. I searched Z2 phone pictures online and all the bottom bezel on those phone looked whole black without any light. So i'm worried if my screen is defective.
Please help me check if you have the same light on the bottom left corner of the bezel.
Thank you!

I'm new to this phone too, but I don't have anything like you describe. I think you may have a faulty device.
Maybe damaged pixel? Not sure, but I'm sure it is faulty hardware, take it to Sony for warranty repairs.

off the display , in the black bezel region at the bottom of the front of the phone.
It is most likely a manufacturing defect where the the bezel was scratched on the back side. This causes light from the backlight to bleed through the glass when the display is turned on. Sorry OP, maybe try to exchange it?
