WELCOME TO THE VERIZON NOTE 3 GUIDE FOR ROOTING, USING ODIN & UPDATING TO THE LATEST OTA
****HOW TO UPGRADE TO LEAKED 4.4.2 KITKAT BUILD****
@Hashcode has explained this very well here - do read it and recognize how neat this opportunity is for us.
That being said, there are some special instructions for utilizing this leak. They are pretty simple and require no special tools or procedures most people around here haven't already used at some point, see below.
1) Start from any Rooted 4.3 MJE Rom (including Stock) with Safestrap 3.65 installed
2) Make any necessary Titanium Backups, etc
3) Reboot to SafeStrap Recovery - I'd recommend making a backup of your 4.3 setup at this point, just in case.
4) Wipe Data & Caches - This is the wipe that is queued up for you immediately upon entering wipe menu in SS - When finished hit "home" button in SS
5) Click Install and flash either the Deodex or Odexed version of the NC2 4.4.2 leak
6) DO NOT CLICK REBOOT SYSTEM WHEN FINISHED - Instead, hit the "home" button in SS and click the main menu Reboot option.
7) Click Reboot to Download mode & follow typical Odin procedure (instructions below) to flash the 4.4.2 Firmware tar
8) Boot into Stock 4.4.2 and download Safestrap 3.72 built specifically for KitKat
9) Boot to SS 3.72 - I'd recommend making a backup at this point as well
10) Click thanks over on Beans thread and Hashcode's SafeStrap thread & ENJOY!

***OLD INFO***UPDATE TO LATEST OTA (MJE) ***OLD INFO***
METHOD 1 - BACK TO MJ7 & ACCEPT OTA:
1) Download and MD5 check the Tar (file removed).
2) Power down your device. Once fully off, HOLD POWER, HOME & VOLUME DOWN BUTTONS. A screen will appear with a warning about custom operating systems - press VOLUME UP to continue to download / odin mode
3) Plug your device into the PC & wait for Odin to show a "com" box with a number in the upper left corner of the window. Put the tar file above into the "AP" slot of Odin and wait for the "Start" button in Odin to be enabled. It could take a minute or two for Odin to read the tar file - it's a couple gigs, which is large - be patient. Once it's ready, click start and it will install a clean, unrooted MJ7 stock OTA firmware.
4) Once on this firmware you can navigate to Software Update via Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Update. Once you've tapped this you'll see an option to either check for updates or download now/later. Select whichever option you have to update and wait for the file to download. You'll then be prompted to install now or wait. Install and it will automatically take over and install the latest OTA Firmware build ending in MJE. This will install the latest software, firmware, modem and kernel. As always with Odin, most likely you will lose all your data. Some have reported that their data was intact - I have no explanation for this as Odin is supposed to wipe your device during the flashing process - PREPARE AS IF DATA WILL BE LOST.
METHOD 2 - STRAIGHT TO MJE:
1) Download and MD5 check the Zipped Tar (file removed).
2) Navigate to the MJE file on your PC. Right click it and hover over "7-Zip," on the pop-out menu select "Extract Here." (Nearly any archiving software will appear in this right-click menu) It will decompress the tar file we need and you'll be ready to continue. This process will not work until you've decompressed the zip file!
3) Power down your device. Once fully off, HOLD POWER, HOME & VOLUME DOWN BUTTONS. A screen will appear with a warning about custom operating systems - press VOLUME UP to continue to download / odin mode
4) Plug your device into the PC & wait for Odin to show a "com" box with a number in the upper left corner of the window. Put the tar file above into the "AP" slot of Odin and wait for the "Start" button in Odin to be enabled. It could take a minute or two for Odin to read the tar file - it's a couple gigs, which is large - be patient. There is an amazingly easy tool called "towel root" that is an application you install like any other side loaded app - once it's installed it's one click and you're rooted...can't ask for it to be much easier than that!

There are two known methods to root MJ7 & MJE. I will not discuss how to root MI9 because there's no benefit whatsoever to remaining on that original build. Nothing was lost moving to MJ7 or MJE so if you want to be rooted I'd recommend moving on up to a later build.
Both Root methods are essentially "One-Click" applications produced by people or companies not using XDA as their methods of distribution. They are very simple and easy to use tools that are installed on your PC and guide you step-by-step through the process via the computer program. The one I recommend using is called "Kingo." There is also one called "vRoot" but, since I have no experience using it nor have any data on others successfully using it, I'll always recommend Kingo. Because they don't post these to XDA, I cannot post links to the source files. This is at the moderators and administrators of XDA's request. DON'T ask for the direct link(s) and NO posting them - they will be flagged down and moderators will haunt your dreams.
Once you've downloaded the files...Google is your friend ...install them and run them. They will ask for your phone to be connected - use the same USB to Micro USB cable as you used before - it should be a reliable one, as well as a reliable port on your PC. Watch the PC screen and the Device screen - there will be a few times you need to either wake the device or accept something on the device screen to progress - don't take a nap during this process. Sometimes it can take a while to download the files needed, other times it's a 5 minute process. YMMV
****HOW TO ADD A CUSTOM RECOVERY****
A logical next step after rooting is to add a custom recovery. Currently the Verizon Note 3 has a locked bootloader - this is bad news. It means we have no true custom recoveries available. There is nothing you can do about this, short of becoming extremely proficient in hacking enterprise level encryption overnight. Godspeed in this endeavor.
We have been blessed though - @Hashcode has worked his magic and enabled "Safestrap" a form of "Bootstrap" recovery which is, as the name implies, more reliable and, well, safer. This is a very stable and viable replacement for a typical custom recovery. In fact, it's based on one of the most popular recoveries - Team Win Recovery Project, or TWRP for short.
Head over here [RECOVERY LOCKED/MJ7,MJE,NC2,NC4] Safestrap Recovery v3.75 [2014-06-26 KK B03] to grab the latest APK and read the install instructions in the OP there CAREFULLY. This is not a foolproof tool and you are taking the same kind of risks as you took rooting your device. See appropriate disclaimers in Hashcode's thread. That being said, it's worked flawlessly for nearly everybody involved and word of "bricks" (or permanently damaged devices) for the Note 3 is basically nill - so stop worrying, follow directions and enjoy!

Honestly haven't had a lick of trouble being on M19 baseband, but maybe I'm on borrowed time?

Why wouldnt you just flash Beans Stock J7 rom in SS recovery then Odin the J7 modem? The only need to use Odin would be for returning to stock or fixing a soft brick.

But flashing that rom wouldn't change his baseband which is what he's after. That's why I said to Odin the modem

I would image that there are some firmware updates that you wouldn't be able to get if you just flashed the modem. I have not looked at the update package so I may be wrong about the firmware updates

I am talking about in regards to this tutorial.

Am I correct in assuming that if it goes as planned I should not lose any data?
I see nothing about that in the OP, but I'm extra cautious without my nandroid security blanket...

I was under the impression that the Kingo was malware and not trusted? Someone said it was stealing IMEI and personal information? Is this not the case?

Not really, see this thread below discussing a response from the Kingo developers. Essentially, no its not not malware or malicious. It's closed source which is a little unnerving for some around open source friendly XDA. It kind of has to be closed source though because if it was open source then anyone, Verizon included, could patch the root exploit...Also, it & vroot (also confirmed non malicious) are essentially the only way to root the note 3 & several other Samsung devices in the post-knox hyper security world of big red. So, we have to bite the bullet on closed source so we can keep our path to root.
I used it and nothing funny is going on in my world. Hope this makes you a little more comfortable.

Right, but Kingo has still not stated why he collects imei and other personal information. I pulled the plug and rooted with it just to have root but I also watched the traffic during the root process and plenty of data was sent at the end of the root process to 3 separate IP addresses all which are registered in China. It may be safe but he is definitely collecting information. I just want to make anybody aware of this before running this method blindly.

Obviously it's not the ideal situation - no doubt about that - but I'm happy to have a simple, fairly safe method to root what is otherwise a very tough nut to crack. Yes they did, if you had been paying attention to their Facebook and the other threads. The serial collection is inevitable. Your phone basically gives it up to your computer when establishing a connection. And the new update they released like a week ago made the collection of imei stop.

Causal, TWRP, 4.3 OTA

A while back when I first got my Verizon Note 2, I used Adam Outler's Casual method to root my phone to Stock. I don't mind stock and root mostly for the Tethering.
About a week back the OTA notice hit my phone. I have declined the notice/update twice giving myself time to look for the root update. I found this thread by Beans: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518704 ........ It seems right but this thread by AdamOutler says not to use ODIN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045563
So I am a little confused. I just want the update but don't want to mess up and not have my tethering ever again.... or brick the phone.
As a newbie, it's a scary task. Someone please help point me in the right direction. I just want the 4.3 Stock. If there is a thread for my situation I couldn't find it. I search "casual TWRP 4.3 OTA" and other similar variations.
I can still get to the TWRP 2.5.0.0. I have also downloaded the ODIN and started it... looks simple, but there are no instructions.
Someone please help me...

#3 - If it is only ROOT you are after, the 4.3 OTA is Rootable, just not unlockable. So if by chance you accidentally take the OTA you should still be able to ROOT and install your Tethering app. You just won't be able to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery/rom.

You cannot. Best bet is to not take the other and unlock your bootloader. If you take it you will probably be locked for a very long time.

Correct, you cannot currently UNLOCK the OTA MJ9 boot loader. But you can ROOT. Which will allow you to tether.

I would think long and hard about taking the OTA...although root is available, you may want an unlocked bootloader at some point, and there is no guarantee that is coming to the official 4.3. My guess is that it will not simply because this phone is 18 months old and the skilled developers that put in the time to do things like unlock bootloaders move on to newer devices.
If you managed to use Casual in the past, Odin won't be a problem for you. Below are the steps:
Odin takes about 5 minutes total...its really easy.
Download Odin (it's just a simple windows program). - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576
Make sure you have the latest samsung drivers - http://www.mediafire.com/?hzlnda0l5t8qyes
Download and extract the firmware from the first post in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458
Save whatever 4.3 ROM you choose to your external SD card.
Power down the phone and boot back into download mode (volume down, power and home at the same time).
Open Odin, plug in phone...Odin should recognize the phone and you will see the com port noted in yellow.
Check the PDA box and put the firmware file (unzipped) in the PDA slot. Click start and 30 seconds later you are done. Phone will reboot into recovery at this point.
Then you can flash any of the 4.3 ROMs (including stock) in TWRP (I use 2.5.0.0 too). I have tried them all and Sophisticated 3.0 has worked the best for me...I will be trying beans 23 as soon as it is done.

Thank you so much. Updated and everything seem to work just fine, but after some use it started rebooting. I am going to put on Sophisticated as you suggested. Hopefully, it will be more stable then the stock ROM.
And I can't get the WIFI Tethering to work. Which Tethering app are you using? I have unlimited data... and need to make sure Verizon isn't charging me for no reason.

I had some reboots on the stock rom too...but once I went to the other roms (I tried Nephilium, Sophisticated and N3bula, but had the best results with Sophisticated) and I haven't had one reboot.
As for the wifi tethering, on stock you need to flash the file below (some of the newer roms, including Sophisticated have it baked in).

IS anybody getting close to an unlock/root post VRUEMJ9 VZWi605 Note 2.
the reason I ask is I unrooted back to stock 4.1.1 and then picked up the VZW OTA 4.3 and now can't use Casual or any other method, I can root but not unlock bootloader. well anybody have any Ideas? thank you.

Eh, he is one of those that puts the question in his title instead of the body of the reply. But as @akellar said, there is nothing available.

Thanks so much for all the help. I got everything working right based on the instructions from this thread. I initially had an issue with the "Wifi Tether" because I was using a 3rd party app. Instead the correct app is the "Mobile Hotspot" app. It might be named differently for other carriers, but for Verizon it is "Mobile Hotspot".

My concerns in order of importance to me:
Stability is critical.
I don't want to own a $700 brick.
I need to be able to use my unlimited data plan to create a hotspot several times a week.
Not voiding warranty.
If the advice is to root to achieve this function, what is the safest rooting process, with the most reliable outcome for my above 4 concerns?

Every Rom I've flashed for this phone has been at least as stable as stock if not more so.
The rooting process for this phone is simple as can be, I haven't seen any reports of bricks.
Hotspot working in pretty much all the TW Roms, not sure about CM
Rooting voids warranty, Sprint will "USUALLY" fix it anyway
Chainfire's one click root is the best way to go, all that does is give you root and you can stop there if you want to stay stock with root privileges. If you want a custom recovery so you can flash new Roms, that's another very simple step. Chainfire's thread gives you all the instruction you need. Hope this helps.

Not at all. It injects stock kernel (I believe, may be recovery) and superuser app. That's it.

I tried everything to get it to work and I was rooted.
Only after I installed a custom rom did it work.
At first I rooted with kingo to keep knox 0x0, eventually I said screw it and installed TWRP and now I'm 0x1. I have not read of anyone that has been denied by sprint for warranty work, or at least tried a different store and was successful.

Which root method do you use?

I am ready to root today (finally). I got the OTA KITKAT update pushed out to me from Sprint. I have not installed it, and want to root before I do. Can you recommend a ROM to download & install?

If you are NOT rooted, then you must upgrade first, then root. If you do not wish to upgrade to KitKat, then you may root now, but the upgrade will not install. Samsung's syscope service will check the status of your phone (official/custom), and your ability to install the update will be nullified if you root whilst on MJ4.
So...upgrade then root. If you need help with rooting, write back. As to preference of ROM, I am a TouchWiz guy that loves inverted apps. Others like AOSP and swear by it. Just select the direction you want and hit the dev forum. There are many good ROMS from which to choose.

Then if 1 & 3 are critical, and you understand that tripping Knox will make life more difficult inasmuch as you will not be sending your phone to Sammy for repairs, then root, install recovery, and install the Stockish DeOdex ROM from freeza's thread. There's a hotspot mod that is DeOdex that Josh Beach has made available on his Website for the entire community running KitKat.
Ultimately I cannot advise as to whether tripping Knox should be a concern for you. However, if it is your phone and not one provided for you by a company, and you're not going against an employer's policy against rooted devices, then tripping Knox is less of a big deal than some may make of it. I thought it was a terrible deal, and didn't buy this phone until I made the conscious decision to say screw it, tripping Knox is fine for me. I then, and only then, bought the phone.
There are a ton of ways to get your phone repaired, none of which require sending it to any manufacturer. I have 2 Sprint stores within 10 miles of me. Both will repair the phone or exchange it if I have a dysfunctional phone that has been rooted. Others on these forums have reported Sprint techs denying them service if Knox has been tripped. You need to make your own choice on this one.

I have made my peace with the idea of voiding warranty. I talked to a Sprint store tech, and he said no one in the store even cares about Knox. If it breaks, bring it in, and they will fix it.
So my plan is to:
1)Upgrade via the OTA. File
2) root via one-click method
3) install the Stockish DeOdex ROM from freeza's thread
4) Install the hotspot mod that is DeOdex from Josh Beach's Website.

-->Gives you stock, unrooted phone up to the latest Sprint build for our phone
2. Install TWRP recovery for this phone version 2.7.0.0, flash via PC Odin (Version 3.07 is here if you like, works just fine)
-->Gives you the ability to flash a root file, or flash a pre-rooted rom, back up your phone setup, flash mods like the hotspot hack, &c.
-->Instructions basically are to power off your phone, take any casing off of the phone, right-click on the Odin.exe file, select run as administrator, hit OK/Yes from Windows User Account Control prompt, load the tar file I linked in the PDA slot of Odin, put your phone in download mode (Home + Volume Down + Power), plug the phone into the USB port on your computer that you've used in the past (this way the Samsung drivers for that device won't be loading while you're trying to get recovery on your device), have the phone in the palm of your hand, have your fingers ready to hit Home + Volume up, then hit start on Odin, once file flashes and phone starts to power cycle (like in 5-10 seconds after hitting start), hit those two buttons, you're in recovery

[ROM][ODIN] SM-N900P MJ4 (MJ4 Modem/Kernel/Bootloader/ROM - Full Restore - Unrooted)

First, a HUGE thanks goes to @garwynn for being my partner through all of this and then to @sfhub for teaching me how to create an Odin One-Click.exe, @Skunk Ape1 for posting the original TAR this is based off of, @MoHoGalore for helping test and put together so many of these one-clicks and to everyone else in our community who makes this possible!
Second, I was asked to make this one-click to help simplify the process of restoring a stock factory build for our Note 3 users. I do not own a Note 3 so I have not been able to test this as I would normally prefer to do before releasing. I do however feel comfortable that it should work as designed. Due to the fact that we do not have a Note 3 to be testing it on, at this time neither myself or Garwynn are planning on releasing a rooted One-Click. There is a lot more risk involved when building the rooted versions and we don't want to take that risk with other people's phones.
This Odin One-Click.exe contains the Stock SM-N900P MJ4 Bootloader, Kernel, Modem and ROM for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900P). Yes, that means this comes with the full Knox Bootloader.
There has been no change to the ROM from the initial build released by Samsung.
This will NOT trigger the Yellow Triangle NOR will it increment the Odin flash count.
This one-click resets your whole phone to the stock MJ4 experience, similar to a factory restore and it will probably wipe all data. It also contains the full bootloader and Knox.
Instructions:
1: Backup anything important and Disable any PINs.
During this process your phone's software will be returned to the Stock setup. All system data will be lost. To be safe, it is best to archive your backup off your phone, ie on your PC or Dropbox.
2: Install Samsung USB/Android drivers (if necessary).

3: Download the MJ4 Stock ROM One-Click.
SM-N900P MJ4 Full Restore Unrooted (Compressed Archive).exe (Resets user data)
4: Unzip One-Click ROM using 7zip (this package is a self-extracting exe you should just be able to double-click on it after download and it will do the rest).
5: Start the Odin One-Click.
Navigate to the location where the "SPH-N900P MJ4 Full Restore (Unrooted).exe" was saved upon extract from the 7Zip archive.
Double-click on "SPH-N900P MJ4 Full Restore (Unrooted).exe". *On Vista or newer, you may need to right-click on the file and Run as Administrator.
6: Place phone in Download Mode.
- Power phone completely off.
- Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons, all at the same time.
- Release the buttons only when the ‘Warning!!’ message appears.
- Press [Volume Up] to enter Download mode.
7: Connect USB cable to PC and phone.
Odin should show a yellow COM port in the second column. If you do not see a yellow COM port, you may need to run the Odin One-Click as Administrator and/or unplug/plugin the USB cable after starting Odin One-Click.
8: Start Odin flash process.
Press [Start].
9: Complete - PASS!
Status should change to green PASS! At this point your phone should automatically reboot.
Android Instructions:
Download and install ZArchiver on your phone. Use it to unpack the Odin One-Click 7zip self-extracting exe file (long press on the 7zip exe. Select "Open As Archive". Select the One-Click.exe and then select Extract). Use Mobile Odin to Open File on the "SPH-N900P MJ4 Full Restore (Unrooted).exe". FYI - Modem will not flash with Mobile Odin.
The boot process will take slightly longer than usual during which time you'll see the Sprint 4G logo screen.
Congratulations! You've flashed the Factory Restore MJ4 build!

someone correct me if im wrong. but if you have completed the pc steps. you should be done. the android verison of this is doing what you just did on the pc but on your phone.
but as noted on orginal post. using thru android it doesn't come with modem so u would have to search the xda thread for the stock mj4 note 3 modem. and also flash that. a harder process but once you get the hang of it can really helps while on the fly.
but also today I unrooted my phone back to stock mj4 to see if the update has came out for my phone yet. if you get an error that you was unable to do a system update because of the phone being modified. online it tells you to go to stock recovery and do a factory reset. this didn't help for me. but what did was using odin again and flashing tht stock tar again. then I was back to official and able to check for my system update. But no update yet for me? :crying:

Can this be used once you have updated to NAB ? Or is there no going back once updated to kitkat ?

The SM-N900P MJ4 Full Restore Unrooted (Compressed Archive).exe will not run for me on Windows 8. The error message says that it isn't for my pc.
Am I missing something?

Really wish I would have read that first before spending an hour troubleshooting why it wouldn't install. Guess I'm stuck on Kit Kat now.

not to beat a dead horse kor but this "Going back to 4.3" has been TALKED about all over the forums. Hence the reason why most of the kit kat rom threads are so short..not many activity on them..Most people are going AOSP for their 4.4.2 thrills cause you can easily nandroid back to 4.3 rom..I'm definitely not officially kitkating until there's a sure method of going back (If ever possible) to 4.3 ..Kit kat just looks so UGLY in my honest opinion..LOL..Good luck with it though..

I appreciate your post, and find it to be a good launch-point for some observations of my own. What is to follow was merely sparked by what you wrote, and is not by any means a response to it. Free association if you will.
Sprint Note 3 TouchWiz KitKat has been talked about for more than 7 weeks...
It started 52 days ago here on 30 January 2014, with the NA4 leak engineering build...yet no one would blame a dev or themer whom did not want to dive into the hard work of rom development with a leak. Kind of like doing restoration work on a house you are renting...seems like wasted effort.
It then obtained an official tar release on 20 February 2014, 21 days later, or 31 days ago, which was simultaneous with the ROM's official push from Sprint.
It was also DeOdexed and Odexed on that same date, which by my measuring stick is the official date that development work began. The base stock thread from which all TouchWiz ROM development work springs began 6 October 2013, with the DeOdex and Odex versions of MI5; it is now 137 pages/1360+ posts and counting, with the official NABD rom base being deployed on page 49, so thus 70% of the thread is KitKat, 30% is Jellybean...quite a feat in one-month's period.
Since 20 February 2014, we've attained...

-->Themes for stock roms that work well and look stunning to some
-->Mature, stable roms that are each unique in their own way, either by look, performance, or both

When I look at the trajectory of development for this phone's version of KiKat, I am proud of both our devs and also our users.
Compare it further to the days of MJ4, and the full host of stable roms from the first DeOdex release, and I'd say we are running ahead of schedule (we are, just have a look for yourself).
So while the hard work is being lain by the folks here doing the heavy lifting, I highly encourage all to make a choice that is right for them. One individual's undesirable-ugly rom may be another's must-have. I'll defer to each user as to whether they may choose to upgrade. I personally started 54 days ago, when I could go back, and yet I wouldn't go back if you paid me.
I would add that some of those short-length threads to which you allude are deceiving, inasmuch as half of the discussion of the KitKat version of a given rom was being discussed in the MJ4/JB 4.3 version of same.
I choose not to imbibe AOSP 4.4.2, though I admire them greatly, and yet comparing it to TouchWiz KitKat seems rather an apples-to-oranges endeavor. One will not experience KitKat on the Note 3 as it was intended unless one takes in the manufacturer's version of same. They are just different. I'm unclear how thrilling AOSP is to some, or if one could aver with any degree of certainty if the majority has chosen not to upgrade.
In a few weeks, it is not a choice, as the phones will be leaving the stores already loaded with KitKat (upgrade already pre-installed). And for them, they ain't going back. And they will be here, hopefully as thrilled as I with the wide variety of options gifted to us by the incredible creativity of our fine community.

Excellent! This is definitely an easy way to flash back to stock on those days when you just don't think and do something stupid that fubars your Note 3. I did have an issue... once I flashed and rebooted, my Note 3 got stuck at the Sprint logo screen. Reflashed and same problem... Did the vol up + home + power, then pressed volume down to reboot phone, same issue. I decided to go into recovery and wipe dalvic cache, then rebooted phone... it worked, the ol Note 3 booted up and started initial setup. Don't know if there was coincidence involved, but I thought I'd throw that in there just in case somebody else runs into the same problem.

When I open up the exe file for MJ4, the odin is blank....attached it a screenshot. Is it supposed to be?
Also, will this get my recovery back?

a new massage yesterday showed from chinfire
A whole bunch of devices' CF-Auto-Roots have been updated from older firmware bases to 4.4.x firmware bases. Means these CFAR's work again on the latest bootloaders, primarily.
A large number of devices have been added as well. Together these total well over one hundred updates.
I've also made some small changes to the page, like adding base firmware version information and MD5s.

Can you confirm that you have successfully used this root method on a stock Verizon SCH-I605 running 4.4.2 ND7?
I looked at Chainfire's website HERE, and there are a couple of warnings that I thought should be noted....
"UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !"
"KNOX WARRANTY
If you have a KNOX-enabled device, using CF-Auto-Root will trip the KNOX WARRANTY VOID status !"

I figured since im looking for a Note 4 soon I had nothing to lose and gave it a try and it failed to even try and work. I ended up going back and redoing my phone and cleaning things up and using ghettoroot. So I couldn't do anything, maybe others have had success I wouldn't waste my time at this point with this.

That's cool that you tried this and thanks for letting others know how it turned out. Too bad it didn't work, but good it didn't brick your phone. Do you know if it tripped your Knox status? It will be interesting to see if the OP provides any further clarification on his experience with this.

My knox status was already tripped and my phone is already out of warranty anyways from testing some other stuff a couple weeks ago. So it didn't really matter to me. I was able to boot back into the phone as if nothing happened after it failed from Odin on the CF Root, I just wanted to redo things as the newer updates for Ghettoroot seem to be a bit more stable in setup. As I still had the original and still had some force close issues but now things are smooth and everything is working 10000%.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work!

So Ghettoroot is working on 4.4.2 with ND7 baseband? I've visited that thread several times and it seems some have root with 4.4.2 update and some don't. Leaves it unclear to my mind.
AA far as I can tell, neither Chainfire or Adam Outler have working roots for this new update.

Update 11/9/14. I used the 15 Seconds ADB Installer rather than the full SDK. ADB devices cmd revealed the Note 2 finally, but unauthorized. Following a simple uncheck of USB debug followed by a recheck then authorization was immediate. I then used GhettoRoot, a one click version of TowelRoot.
Root with no hiccups a day later. Root enabled apps like Root Explorer and Titanium Backup working as is BusyBox. Android 4.4.2 baseband ND7 (Verizon).

[GUIDE] (OB6/OF1) Root, Bootloader Unlock, and Custom Recovery!

Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device after following this guide. Also, I'm not entirely sure if this works 100% for OF1, although I can guarantee that this guide works for OB6 because I just successfully rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and flashed a custom recovery onto my Galaxy Note 3 running the OB6 update.
This guide was compiled for the sole purpose of convenience for other users here on XDA Forums. My reason for making this guide was to make it as easy as possible for Verizon Galaxy Note 3 owners to root, unlock the bootloader, and flash a custom recovery without jumping from thread to thread, searching for answers.
ONLY FOLLOW THIS GUIDE IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ROOTED, HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, AND WHAT A CUSTOM RECOVERY IS USED FOR
If you are the proud owner of a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900V) and would like to root, unlock the bootloader, and/or flash a custom recovery onto it, you've come to the right place. Included in this guide are methods of doing these exact things, which also happen to be generally easy to perform.
Before you begin, you'll need a few things:
a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 (running OB6 or OF1, obviously)
a computer of some sort (running Windows)
a micro SD card (make sure there isn't anything on it, because it WILL be erased)
Odin 3.09 *
TWRP 3.02-1 *
ArabicTool *
eMMC Brick Bug Checker app
unlock_n3 (for unlocking the bootloader, attached) *
* place these files in a location that you know the path of. e.x. C:\ or C:\Users\...\Desktop
Once you are 100% sure that you have all of these things, continue to the rest of the guide.
Root
Open ArabicTool
Make sure your phone is connected to your computer
In ArabicTool, click on the "Version" field and select your firmware version (OB6/OF1)
Click on "Read phone info" and wait for the information above to show your phone's status
Check the logs on the bottom right to make sure that everything is correct, then click on "Root" below the "Phone info" box (if there is an error about not being on 5.0, close the app, set the compatibility mode to W7, and run as admin)
Once your phone restarts, continue to the next part of the guide
Unlocking the Bootloader
Just follow this tutorial. The consequences of messing this part up can lead to bricking your phone, although the process itself is fairly simple. Just remember that you need to unzip samsung_unlock_n3.zip and rename the file in there to unlock_n3. Follow the instructions from there.
Flashing TWRP
Honestly, this part was the easiest for me.
Unzip and open Odin 3.09
Reboot your phone into download mode (with it plugged into the computer, obviously)
In Odin, click "AP" and find the flashable TWRP tar that you downloaded earlier
Start the flashing process by clicking "Start" in the bottom right hand corner
If, after this process, your phone reboots and shows an error about the recovery partition in the top left hand corner (in blue), then goes into a bootloop:
Download the stock recovery.tar from the attached files at the bottom of this post
Open Odin again
Click "AP", find the file you just downloaded, and start the flashing again
Follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader again, but only do the second set of code. The first set is irrelevant to us at this point.
Flash TWRP onto your phone again. This time, it should work if it didn't already.
To make sure, boot your phone into recovery mode. If TWRP boots up, success (obviously )!
If you have any issues whatsoever that I haven't covered in this guide, please either PM me or reply to this thread. Also, if I have made any mistakes in outlining the instructions in this guide, do the same.

I'm not entirely sure if it will work on JasmineROM 6.1 specifically, but it won't hurt your device to try. Unless your CID doesn't start with 15 for some reason. If it does, the worst that can happen is the unlock file won't work.
I'll have to edit that part when I get home. I'm only going to be gone for about 20 minutes or so.

It really only needs root, although the spot it looks for the eMMC CID value changed from kernel release to kernel release, so there were some minor release dependencies.
[Edit 8/25/2016] Based on feedback from member shallmann, it appears that specific binary versions released within the Unlock Thread should be used depending on the firmware revision of your phone. See this post in that thread.
The version which seems to be most compatible with M*, N*, and O* kernels is the build posted (along with source code) in post #218 of the bootloader unlock thread.
( The newly-rebuilt version in the OP of that thread is still incompatible with 4.3 and 4.4 (M*, N*) releases. )
Man up and use your browser if the XDA app is broken.

I know you are trying to help and everything, but you've kind of screwed the pooch in a couple of different ways. First, the binary that you attached doesn't work on any 4.3.x (M*) or 4.4.x (N*) series ROMs, and I'm not sure it ever worked even on OB1 and OF1.
Second, you should not be re-attaching files that are available in other people's posts. Just provide a link to the original post; if there is an ambiguity as to what download is desired, then describe it in your post.
Third, you should not be taking other people's downloads, unpacking them, and then renaming the included files to match filenames used elsewhere - that is only going to increase people's confusion.
Fourth, in that OP (@ryanbg 's post) he mentions re-building the code and NOT USING the version that you provided as an attachment. Unfortunately, he was in a hurry when he rebuilt the code, and even the new version he built still does not work on 4.3.x and 4.4.x ROMs.

This is kinda confusing, to be honest.
Once bootloader is unlocked you could just download FlashFire and download and flash TWRP from there rather than using Odin.
The root tool you linked didn't work for me, even on Windows 7, granted others said it worked for them. If they are on Windows 10, there is a different tool to use.

I need the stock recovery file, that you said would be attached. My phone is not booting with the Recovery warning..

I have the sm-900v on 5.0 and I rooted and unlocked bootloader and twrp and flash a rom but didn't go through so I Odin stock rom back to begin fresh and now it won't root...as soon as I do the root process and it restarts my phone into stock recovery...so I clean cache and reboot and goes right back to stock recovery...can anyone help

Firstly, if you have an unlocked bootloader, you never have to flash STOCK again.
So - after you have gotten this problem fixed - learn how to avoid using Odin with STOCK firmware bundles.
Odin can flash a custom recovery when the bootloader is unlocked. That will save you trouble in the future. You need to learn how to build Odin ".tar.md5" files. In a nutshell, for doing what I just mentioned, you take a TWRP .img file, rename it to "recovery.img", put it in a "ustar" format tar file, and then compute the md5 signature of that and append it to the end of the file. Search for "Odin md5 ustar" in these forums.
For your current problem, I can't tell exactly what you are saying. If you are saying "I am stuck in a vicious cycle of nothing but recovery reboots (the stock recovery)", then
- pull the battery and wait ten seconds
- put the battery back in
- start in download mode with Vol_Down+Home+Power. When you get the pop-up screen, select cancel.
- if it still boots into the stock recovery, the do a full wipe (yes the whole phone, data+cache) and try booting. If the same trouble persists, go back and do the Odin STOCK flash again. (You can't flash a custom recovery with a locked bootloader).
If it still doesn't work, make sure your next problem report includes far more details than the one above, for instance:
- what version of firmware was on your phone before this mess started
- what version of firmware you were trying to flash with Odin
- what version of Odin you were using
- the name of the Odin file and it's MD5 signature.
that's a start.

It produces error messages when it encounters a problem and exits without completing it's job.
Is there some reason why you believe we should be able to intuit what those countless error messages were? (It would be simpler if you just cut-n-paste that output into your post.)
You might also want to state which version of the tool you used - there are at least 3 in the original thread.

im thinking about getting a verizon note 3.. does this work for all variants to get root, twrp and custom roms?

No
You can root all variants but can not unlock all variants, thus can't use TWRP or use custom ROMS or kernel.
Must be model SM-N900V, must have a specific Samsung eMMC (cid must start with 15) and the external SD card slot must work along with the USB port.
