[FIXED] - [CM] signal coming and going - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I flashed CM 10.2 and I had a problem, the signal was coming and going so I returned back to stock.
Now I flashed unofficial CM 11 and I'm having the same problem, this is a video (notice the signal bar in the status bar).
http://videobam.com/LFZKy
And yes, I tried to flash another radio.
Thanks,

This is really strange, I fixed the problem and I don't know how, here's what I did after asking this question:
1-I left the phone on aeroplane mode for over 10 hours and the problem still exists.
2-I flashed an efs v1 modem and my signal fully disappeared and my IMEI changed to "Unknown".
3-I flashed the emergency zip and the signal fully disappeared and my IMEI is still "Unknown" :what:
4-I flashed an efs v2 modem and everything returned as it was before; IMEI was correct and the signal was coming and going.
5-I let the phone choose carrier automatically from the settings. Of course I did that when there was signal, Otherwise you can't open "Network operators".
6-I entered a new APN with info exactly as the currently chosen one and didn't select it.
7-I was on play store when I noticed the problem has been fixed
Note: My carrier when I had this problem and now is the same, "VIVA"
Going to eat some KitKat

[q] no network no IMEI no baseband

Galaxy S II has no Network upon further inspection the phone doesn't display the Imei, bluetooth, wifi mac address.
Its not in flight mode, I restored to factory settings, tried couple of sims as well.
Is it a software issue or hardware issue??
Is likely flight mode. Press power button long and try the option flight mode or data connection.

Replace sim card in holder .
jje
did try all the possibilities.
NEW PROBLEM : Once put into flight mode,i cant get rid off flight mode and the phone doesn't charge anymore?? Please tell me its a software issue
UPDATE: The phone is charging after doing a factory restore, but now i found out when i go to mobile network, it says SIM CARD NOT INSERTED? Sim card tray issue? hardware??
DOUBT: is there a chance the phone to get network locked??
UPDATE: when I Enter *#7465625# and see the following:
Personalization Status
Network Lock
Network Subset Lock
SP Lock
CP Lock
Phone is from singapore, looks like it got locked automatically?
things are getting more complicated my doesnt have a imei
when i check imei it doesnt show
NO imei copy back your backed up efs folder as per thread dev section.
Try factory reset rtrey flashing a stock rom .
jje
Yup, sounds like an efs issue. Hope you backed that up.
i dint flash or root the phone to corrupt those.

Get a replacement if its under warranty...you dont know what else will go wrong with a device that comes defective right from the start...

Yea, this is the exact thing thats happened to me (Indian version).
Fresh out of the box phone, worked fine for the last 3-4 days.
Now I'm out on a vacation, and the network selection on roaming was flaky, I was toggling the network selection manually/automatically a few times to get some network, and the next thing I know I no longer have a IMEI (shows unknown) , and the same for baseband ( shows unknown) .
Tried factory resetting , etc, not helping. Will get back home and have the phone repaired/replaced.

This airplane mode sounds dangerous. Unfortunately it may be a necessity when you are travelling etc. Hope there is a known fix or one comes out soon. Until then I will keep my /efs partition backup in 3-datacenter redundant storage place along with my laptop and ext.hdd.
i just recieved an sgs2 in uk and it has this exact problem out of the box.
grrr
if anyone wants to point me to a stock rom for it i'll try flashing it
erm, i dont think flashing will help here.
I reckon that missing IMEI means the /efs partition has been wiped out/corrupted, and that is something which cannot be restored by a simple flash.
finally, after almost 12 days, lots of running around, I finally got my S2 working again.
The service center had to send the phone to their head office since they hadnt received any service info on the new model till then.
They changed the PBA apparently , and finally reflashed it and gave it to me.
They claimed that the flashing was an online process and samsung india service servers were down for nearly 2-3 days, accounting for the additional delay.
Just like my I9000, but I dont think it is the same problem and same way to solve.
I rooted the devise and deleted the nv_date.bin and the nv_data.md5 in EFS file with Root Explorer, and renamed the .nv_data.bak into nv_data.bin, then restart, problem solved
I have exactly the same problem as you guys are talking about. Really weird. The /efs directory, where is it located? Is it located in the main "Root" or is it in a specific folder? I would like to try the thing with the rename trick?

Odd Problem: WiFi On=Network like"OFFline" but with signal...

Hi dudes,
i have a normal GT-i9300 NO BRAND. From the beginning i started with Ultima Rom and until version 12 and a provider CHANGE with the same number (from Wind to TIM, Italy) i never had a problem...after,starts the odd's show:
if turns on the WiFi...my device is like OFFLINE,is not reachable .KEEP ATTENTION: the signal is present, like -85dbM 14asu.But from the moment I do a phone call or i send a SMS...device turns back reachable, for a X period of time, after that: "offline" again.
I tried:
change modem (latest,oldest...)
downgrade of Ultima Rom and modem
upgrade until Ultima Rom V16 (4.3..)
pass to CM11 temasek unofficial V45 (4.4.2 GREAT ROM...)
pass to STOCK SAMSUNG ROM (with odin, latest version...my God,tried only for the test and quickly raging i came back to temasek)
used the same device with a different TIM sim
I did a deep wipe for new ROM installation, with Philz recovery...
NOTHING WORKS, the problem rest.
To Do:
try a different provider sim...for example WIND or 3 (for exclude a Provider problem...something related to communication protocols)
Try my TIM sim in another GT-I9300 always with CM11 temasek unofficial.(for exclude an HARDWARE problem...waiting for a my friend with the same device and rom)
Weird:
it seems that this problem is only in my home because from my workplace (another radiocell) i'm reachable also under wifi connection.
CALLED:
I called to my customer service TIM and they did a "format" of my sim and "account"...but nothing changes. They said that in my radiocell the signal is weak, they know that but they can't do nothing.
I REMEMBER that the problem began from the SWITCH from WIND to TIM,that not wanted, happened during an upgrade of Ultima ROM...
SO,the problem is of my device? Sim? Number? Provider?... WHAT THE H****?!
ANY SUGGESTIONS!?!??!

my guessing is that the problem is the sim card, probably damaged. you should try another sim card.
done yet, I wrote it I the "tried list" ... Another tim sim and the problem rest

yeah sorry, it was late and i was tired, didn't see that. well, it might be the antenna of the phone, you should go to a gsm service, they have the necessary stuff to point out the problem, even if it's hardware or software.
Could even be the sim holder .
I'm thinking that is an ANDROID or Modem problem related...specially with TIM communication protocols.
Is like if where there is a low signal, and you use Wi-Fi...device don't give energy to radio antenna, but to wi-fi. When you call or sending SMS,the antenna takes more power and the device is now reachable...
I should try a real old ROM with a real old modem...ufff...is all so boring -.- (i know, exist nandroid, but still boring is!)

if you have a rom with modem that changed your efs partition to efs v2 and try to flash a rom that has modem with efs v1 you will loose your IMEI and S/N , unless you have a backup of efs v1.

Ni Signal after few days on CM13 nightly

Hi Everyone,
I recently rooted and installed CM13 (20160606) nightly on my i9300. At first everything worked flawlessly, but last Thursday (16th June) I lost signal and have not been able to get it back since. In case the circumstances for when it happened could have an influence, then here is a bit more details from around the time I lost signal.
I was having signal and the mobile data was working fine, as I was running low on battery the phone was on battery saver, when the battery hit 2% it had signal and I didn't look at my phone after this. As I came home, I immediately plugged in my charger and at the same moment my phone shutdown due to no more juice on the battery. When I started up the phone again, it had no signal.
I've tried to clean flash the same nightly again, clean flash newest nightly (20160618). I've also tried to flash other modems without any luck. APN settings have been double and triple checked, deleted, setup and triple checked again. I've tried to downgrade my TWRP to 2.8.6.1 from (3.0.2-1) and flashed the nightly - No luck.
Here are my system details:
CM version: 13.0-20160618-NIGHTLY-i9300
Baseband version: I9300XXEMG4
IMEI: 35299...........
IMEI SV: 01
Sim Network: Unknown
Signal strength: 0
Cellular network type: UMTS
Service state: Data: Out of service
Cellular network state: Disconnected
I think this could be related to the incidence when I lost signal, after battery power out, as this was working fine up to then for 10 days.
Let me know if I need to provide any more information or if you have any ideas what I can try to restore my signal.
When I go to search for Network Operators it finds two, when I try to register to the one which is not mine it says my Sim card doesn't allow this. When I try to register to my actual carrier it takes a long time and it comes out saying "Can't connect to this network right now". My signal strength in the about section is "0". I'm not sure where the problem is, if I have 0 signal, how can I find two carriers?
I got back to Android 4.3 by sammobile ROM, after flashing patched XXUGMK6 kernel and modem, I now have a signal. But, I'm still unable to connect to my carrier. My IMEI and S/N match those under the battery. After searching my carrier shows up in the mobile network list, but it fails to register to the network, and goes to have No Service and says the selected network is unavailable.
Solved. I went through basically everything I could dig on the internet, not sure exactly what did the trick.

Jiayu S2 - No cell signal after flashing ROM

I have a Jiayu S2 double-SIM phone, running the most up to date official ROM (4.4.2).
This ROM had a couple of bugs (no GPS and no notifications to external devices such as smartwatches), so I wanted to check other available ROMs. Using the Flash Tool I have tried a couple of the ROMs in the needrom site (https://www.needrom.com/category/jiayu/s2-jiayu/). In particular, a couple of versions of the official ROM, another ROM known as Salamander, and an unofficial port of Cyanogenmod 12 (in which the camera was not working).
The issue is that, for some reason, at some point my phone has stopped getting phone signal. The SIMs ask for the PIN on startup, but there is no signal. I have reverted to the original ROM; plus done a factory reset, and I could still not get signal.
The APNs for both SIMs are fine. Then I have realised that the IMEI was empty. Luckily I had it written down, so I have installed Xposed and the Device IMEI Changer, with which I have been able to restore the IMEI. Now I can see the IMEI on the Settings - IMEI information, as well as with *#06#.
But still, now with the original ROM, and with the IMEI restored, I still cannot get phone signal. I have tried setting the phone to flight mode, restarting, selecting manually the network... When trying to manually select the network I can see several networks, but the phone will simply not connect to the one it should.
Any idea on why could it be that I cannot get phone signal? Thanks.
After trying everything, including restoring the IMEI with Xposed, I have finally managed to restore cell service by restoring the IMEI with this tool: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cryptotel.chamelephon

Unable to make and receive calls or messages

Hey guys new problem
After flashing the stock Kitkat ROM I realised that the OTA updater doesn't work, so I googled around some more and found the latest (I think) Lollipop ROM (A7-30HC_S127_151125_ROW) and flashed that with the SP flash tool. Everything works fine except for 1 major issue.
The SIM doesn't work and I can't make or receive calls and messages. The SIM is fine, I tested it on another device and I can make and receive calls without any issues. But on the tab it detects the SIM, data works, but calls and messages do not. On the status bar it shows 3G and the little reception bars. When I check the SIM status in settings it shows the network, but the Signal strength is 0, Service state is Out of service but the Cellular network state is Connected.
Is this a problem with the ROM? Do Lollipop ROMs for this tab have any issues like this? Should I downgrade back to Kitkat or try an older Lollipop ROM (like this one A7-30HC_S126_150824_ROW)
Help would be much appreciated
Edit: I just realised that it's saying Invalid IMEI on the lock screen, and when I type *#06# on the dialer it says Invalid
Have I lost the IMEI now?? Is this going to be a permanent problem?
Okay guys I fixed it with the help of a little googling again! XD
Followed the instructions given by the first result when I searched for invalid IMEI
Thankfully the tab had a sticker with the IMEI pasted on the back, so it was easy enough to type the commands with it.
Restarted and now everything is back to normal
