ah ok thank you. stupid waste of a button if all you can have is google, & absolutely ridiculous you've got to hack your hardware to edit a menu option. guess they are continuously trying to remind us that the hardware we purchase is actually theirs, it wont be long before modifying your systems is criminal & punishable by 10 years in prison for blocking a few adds or is that the nsa/gchq!

Thanked wrong lol
That feature is there because Google implemented it in AOSP code. Sony works over that, and they do not remove stuff like that...

On my Z1 I managed to remove that "Google Now / Google Search" thingy normally appearing after a long hold of the home icon.
I went into configuration / apps / all (translated from German model) and deactivated "Google Search".
My personal device usage revealed no drawbacks so far.

It's an option, but it disables the app as a whole. That's not exactly a solution...

What you're holding is not an iPhone, friend.
So there is no way to change the function of the double tap on the key? Perhaps to something more useful as some probably have no use for the voice command system. Can anyone answer this? And yes I'm sure the op is aware that he or she does not hold an iPhone.
if this is a problem for you, an iphone is the better choice

maybe the iphone it is a better choice for the people who doesnt want to modify their OS and work with a fixed one instead of what their want in personal use.
long press for a ****ty multitask it is not the way to go, and with 3 keys 2 click on home is the faster way until we got a multitask like windows mobile 6.5 with taskfacade or something and a click on notification bar to use.

I whole-heartedly agree, and I actually have a hard time believing that your question was met with all those snarky comments from a forum dedicated to customizing the most customizable mobile OS on the planet.
I too would like to be able to change the default home double click behaviour. I'm sure it can be done, i just don't know how. Any ideas, people?

I'll give you a sensible response, as of yet, you can't change the double tap function on the S2. It may be customized in the future but so far you'll just have to live with the annoying voice control app.
I hope that helps
Thanks for the non-sarky response

I've seen an application called multitasking pro that supposedly opens with a double tap of the home button. But I guess it wouldn't work on S2 yet, huh?

I don't know, Install it and see, I doubt it will work though, I doubt it'll be able to override a stock Samsung app.

Wow, way to be an ass. Never heard of Quick Desk?
All the multitasking of the iPhone from double tap, but with the option to add widgets as well?
If that's not one upping the iPhone at it's own game then I don't know what is.
I for one know I'd rather have a multi tasking app than a voice search I'll never use.
Anyway, the closest i've found is http://android.modaco.com/content/s...odaco-com/340047/take-control-of-home-button/ but this is only working on KE2 as of the moment.
Guys, what I'd like is a long hold on the BACK button to bring up the multi-task menu, this would feel like less of an effort than the long press on HOME.

menu button show in 4.4.2

why is it appears after update to 4.4.2 ?
how do i cancel it ?
thank you!
That is the way it's meant to be on android, the only reason it was missing was because people weren't used to it. The reason is galaxy phones with their crappy hardware buttons, considering you have onscreen navigation keys this button is equal essential and easy to use.
Is the onscreen menu button still present in 4.4.2 or is it replaced by recent activity?
Is there a way to remove it?
It's now stock to show all the time on Android 4.4 it's Google way to force company's to get rid of menu buttons and use Google. Which I Perfer since I hate menu buttons but love the three dots

Even if google forced it to be, it wont be there on the native browser.
Chrome is exclusively a Google product so all the changes will be present in the latest versions.

StopSwitchDelay - Remove 5s Delay To Open Apps After Pressing Home Button

Introduction
This is a very simple module that removes the 5 seconds delay preventing you from opening apps (other than from the launcher) after pressing the home button.
More detailed explanation | Even more detailed explanation
Requirements:
Xposed Framework
Source:
https://github.com/GermainZ/StopSwitchDelay
Download:

Thanks:
rovo89 and Tungstwenty for the Xposed Framework.
Im not sure what kind of delay are you talking about?

After pressing the home button, there's a five seconds delay set by Android.
During that time, if an activity (e.g. Switchr) tries to start another activity, that action will be delayed. On KitKat and higher, I think it shows you a warning when that happens (a "Loading app..." toast.)
(The delay is reset when you open an app from the launcher or task switcher, too)
If you've never encountered the issue then you most likely don't need this module.

Now that you mention it, i have encountered a problem like that, but i've only seen it in a few apps. Also while using switchr, the problem occured randomly(or so it seemed). an example for the app is Castle Clash. But I do not recall a toast showing "loading app". Would the delay also apply to Tasker? I will try out the module and report. Maybe the problem is fixed in a custom rom im using(Slimkat, AOSP).
@GermainZ can we get gingerbread support plz?
So that is what has been driving me crazy and I had no idea. Seemed like lags and hangs. Thanks!
Sounds Great!!
I'm using side bar app to open some apps and I have encountered that many times but I didn't know it's concerning with home button and I thought it was just a bug of the sidebar app!! Great!! However, can't be that was added in Android OS originally due to necessary?? Any Risks after this module??

I can't see any. If a malicious app wants to override your home button this way it could use a background service to bypass the delay anyway. As to why it was added, ask the Google engineers.

Normally Android system force a 5s delay after you click the home button in order to give home application some priorities to finish switching. But I think that 5s was huge overkill on any today's decent hardware.

Yes thank you for this useful module (using it with Switchr)
wow this is a great module.
switching is pretty fast now with this module + switchr on my nexus 5..
pretty awesome work I would say.
Thanks for this.

edit: posted it in /r/xposed and /r/android of reddit (can't contain my happiness!)
Awesome work GermainZ! I didn't even know this was an 'intentional' feature. Ah well, no more "Loading App" toast for me
This is amazing! I had no idea why I had a delay when opening apps. Thanks for creating this!

Google Now Long Press

For some reason long pressing the menu button on my s4 brings up my recent apps as opposed to Google now on my s4. I'm unrooted, completely stock. This feature used to work. Haven't had the kitkat update as I'm on Verizon. Anyone else have this problem?

That's the intended behaviour. It comes like that when stock.
I think Google Now should be swipe up from bottom of screen; not sure as I've never installed it.

So, your S4 behaves differently than your S4. That's weird.
Seriously, that's how it's supposed to work. Go into Google Now, settings/help, where it's explained. Long press home is on Google Play edition phones (swipe up is for Nexus phones).
Ok, but I have googled this all over the place. Other people on other forums say the same. Long Press menu brings up Google Now. Additionally, my phone used to do this until last week.

Have you tried a factory reset? Since you're not rooted, that should reset everything... but there's also the full-wipe MK2 Odin tar to really reset everything.

LOL. Who is Google to contradict your expertise?
To open Google Now, follow the steps for your device:
Android 4.1+ devices: Touch the Google Search bar at the top of the screen. You may be able to swipe up from the bottom of the screen on certain devices.
Nexus devices: Swipe up from the bottom of any screen.
Nexus 5: Swipe to the leftmost Home screen.
Google Play edition devices: Touch & hold your phone's Home button.

The S4 is an "Android 4.1+ device," and it works exactly as described.
But if you knew how to read, you could download the user manual for the phone, and discover how Samsung says it works:
Home: Press to display the Home screen, or Lock screen if the device is locked. Press and hold to display recent applications or launch Task Manager or Google Search.

...which again confirms that the OP's phone (and my own, which is running "rooted" stock) is working as both Google and Samsung describe.
But, maybe you like the taste of crow, since you've asked for a second serving.

Really whipping out the manual? Lol in the section you're referring to, it also doesn't mention that long pressing the back key toggles the multiwindow tab. It's not a complete guide to those functions.

Remap App Switch To Menu

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.
