[Q] Files disappeared after upgrading to Omega v51 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there. I've just been updated my omega rom from 4.1.2 (can't remember the rom version) to Omega V51, after backing up via clockworkmod.
Now the rom is working perfectly, except the fact that my data disappeared. The storage is almost full in my phone (can't update/download apps), but it seem to be empty using file explorer,
When trying to restore through recovery mod, I can choose the file I created, but of course it won't let me (md5 missmatch).
How can I restore my data??
Thanks in advance.

Look in Device\data\media..... there u will find the content of your sdcard.
just move everything to drive 0 exept 0 , obb and legacy.
There is something written about why and how they changed our internal sd. use search. Ive asked the same question couple of days ago.
Hope this helps.
Danny

Sadly the 'data' file is empty

Are u sure you looked in the data folder on your device? Not the data folder on your internal memory (sd)

I'm sure in 100%. By the way, when selecting all the files and folders in the device (via es explorer) it show about 3.15 GB, but in the phone settings it says just 387 available storage...

In ES explorer turn on root explorer... else you will see an empty data folder on your device.
This folder cant possebly be empty cause this is where android stores your app data and so on
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Still empty....

Well my friend... yhen you have a very special problem if in fact your data folder is empty.... :0
Ofcourse you did load system as r/w when you selected root explorer?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Sure...
I'm reflashing the rom now... and when getting in to the recovery "choose zip from sdcard" I can see all my missing files..

I know... that is exactly the problem i am talking about....
In android you see that your internal sd got renamed to drive 0 and your files are missing
But when you enter a "old" recovery you will see your old internal sd and your missing files
Your old internal memory got placed in device/data/media.
Which you can only see when you load your system as r/w.

Forgot to mension...you must be rooted! Have you got root? Sometimes when going to android 4.3 you loose root... check your super user app.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Can you please explain me how to do it? Clearly I'm not doing it well...

Anyone...?

Ok..
Go to your app drawr...tap SU app and check if you got root.
If you dont get any error message i guess you got root.
Then,
Go to esfile explorer. Assuming you have got the latest version go to settings-tools-rootexplorer.
If it says on then tap on rootexplorer TEXT not the on/off button.
A menu pops up.
Select: load r/w (something like this mine is in dutch)
Choose r/w
Confirm ok
Browse to device/data/media. You do this by tapping the / button in top left corner.
You should be able to see files in data by now...
Then in the media folder select all the files exept 0 , obb and legacy and place them in internal memory 0

I noticed now that the SU isn't installed anymore... I really don't know what to do from here... tried several ways to root (I have background of rooting phones...) but it seem that neither option helping me..

I figured you lost root...
Read this specialy bottom text and download.
Goodluck!

Very strange... I just can't work it out, SU isn't installing on my phone...

You could try to flash a previous version of omega.
Then root your phone
Then flash the super user update thats in the link i posted
Then flash omega newest version.
It appears that version broke and keeps breaking your root.
Have you searched omega forum?

Well?
Maybe you could also try a kernel with auto root function?
Googy max?

TWRP file manager issues

The file manager for TWRP isn't reading my files. I moved all my roms to a different folder and deleted the old one they were in. However TWRP isn't recognizing any changes that have been made to any files or folders and it still shows the old folder but it is empty. How do I make it refresh or recognize any of the new files and folders in my phone? I have used the file manager i got when rooting my phone and es file explorer and the both are reading everything correctly. So how do I make TWRP start working correctly as well?
Where did you move the files from and to?

Still on my sd card. Where they were before. I just cant figure out why ny recovery looks just like it did before I moved anything. I can't find any of the roms I have downloaded

Roms are In the downloads, move them to the 0 folder and they will show up.. Use root explorer to move them when booted and flash them from the twrp

Well yea I had moved them from downloads to a folder where I had been putting all my roms and stuff. But even if I put them back in downloads twrp won't pick them up.
Alright so it isn't like updating anything. By that I mean it is showing stuff I deleted from my phone and isn't showing anything new I install
Edit: just read the 0 folder thing you said. Problem solved! Thanks a lot

Problem running 'Jellybeans' build 20

So I just installed the 'Jellybeans' build 20 running the saber kernel and everything is great except for one major problem. For the life of me I can't access my downloads folder. I've used ES file explorer, FX file explorer and the only way that I can open and get into the folder is to access with root. Nothing in the folder can be deleted period, and nothing can be added either. Whenever I try to download anything through chrome/etc.. that goes into the downloads folder it comes up as a failed download.
I don't download with chrome. I think chrome is broken for downloading I use stock browser for that...

You might have to get into twrp and wipe internal storage then reflash a rom.. That will get rid of that for ya like a fresh clean phone with nothing on it

I've never had any issues with Chrome/Chrome Beta. Beta is actually faster than the stock browser IMO in terms of loading/closing the app.
I'd go into twrp, fix permissions, and check the permissions of your download folder. sounds like it is a permissions issue.
Tried all of that with no luck. I managed to fix the issue by backing up all my data then formating my phone from twrp. Reflashed jellybeans and now all is good. I just wish I knew what caused the problem..

Q:Help Unspecified Error

I rooted my HTC last night with a couple of hiccups but got there eventually. Now I am trying to transfer files from computer (Win8, and I have tried Win7) to my HTC (the ROM I want to run) I see the copying pop up window that Win8 and 7 give you but no file transfer takes place it just hangs there. When I try to move a file from the HTC to the computer I get an unspecified error. File transfers worked fine last night in the rooting process but now I get nothing.
1. Try a new cord
2. Make sure your not using a hub
3. Usb 3.0 has been reported to have problems
4. Have you tried transferring a small file on WiFi

I am attempting to use AirDroid to transfer files now here is the issue I am having, there is no SD Card in the HTC so it appears there is no place to put or take files from. What am I doing wrong? Moved USB cable from hub to computer still nothing. Looking at the root of the HTC from File Explorer it says SD Card is not mounted, is that the problem? If so how do I mount it. Thanks for the help Now I am being told there is not enough room I have to assume it is some kind of mount/unmount issue

Clockwork right now was using TWRP and rooted I did load a Kernel last night only because the instructions I read said you would lose root if you didnt. Bulletproof is the one I used could that be causing the issue
First go into your settings, scroll to storage, tell me what the phone says.

Also you may need to boot into recovery and see if recovery can read your storage. You may just need to install a
Stock Rom to give you a fresh start.

This is interesting I just went to download the bets version of Swift Key Cloud and I got
An SD Card is required to Download so nothing is seeing it now
Really? I'm missing something then. Because you are stock, rooted, with a custom recovery running bulletproof kernal. Your recovery can't mount and read anything the card. The phone doesn't recognize internal memory. Do a factory reset. The only other option I can think of is to use the Usb to go option to load a new Rom and try to see if maybe you had a bad download with the kernel

USB to go? Option

When I look at the root directory with Root Explorer I see sdcard however it tells me it is not mounted so in not so technical terms it looks like a sheet of paper as opposed to a file folder

Yes, there a cord you can buy that allows you to attach a usb stick to the phone through the charging port. If you still have the kernel file on your device I would recommend, redownloading- replacing the kernel file and installing through recovery. If not, you need Usb 2 go to get a different kernel loaded up and to return completely to stock if it turns out to be a hardware issue.

Btw I believe that you had a bad kernel flash, that's why your storage disappered. Reflash a kernel and you shouldbe good to go.

Backup - where?

Where are the CWM Recovery backups stored? I think I've looked everywhere but can't find them. They restore ok from the recovery view but can't find them in any file explorer. Most of them I have on internal sdcard but the clockworkmod folder is empty
EDIT: autocorrect mistake in thread title

I'm almost positive that's where I found mine a couple weeks ago, and I'm running 4.4...[EDIT: both paths take you to the same thing, just checked] It shouldn't matter what version, as per below.
An explanation as to why it's not where you think it is.
After 4.1 (correct version?) introduced multi user, internal storage is separated into numbered folders for each user, starting with 0 - the first user (ie usually only user on phones). Since CWM uses the root of the SD card instead of following this new format, most apps cannot find the backup since they access the 0 folder of int storage.
