[Q] Hardcore battery problems (Complicated) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the same problem like month ago (Last time i solved it by new battery and everything was ok.)
I CAN'T CHARGE MY BATTERY.
My steps now:
1. I bought new loader and loader seems not to be problem
2. I have fully formated system, cache and everything that was in CWM possible to format and wiped all caches, battery stats etc and then I flashed stock ROM.
NOW:
I'm charging it with loader and i have all time 0%-5%.
I inserted for fun my old damaged (probably, but who knows where the hell is problem?) and it was 95% (LOL?) but after restart it died.
Where the hell is the problem?
With battery?
With micro-usb port?
With other hardware?
Maybe it's something wrong with system but I'm total newbie, tell me all steps how to check is everything there ok.
How to PRECISELY DIAGNOSE what the hell is going on?

Try hawkerpaul's nuke : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
If there is a problem with the port, you can search youtube to clean it ( i don't think so tho)
Are you using the stock rom? If not, flash the stock rom with odin, try ICS rom too, there is no way we can check what is wrong, you have to try everything :/

Good advice from @Dakura except that you should stay away from Odin until you've ruled out any possibility of a faulty USB port. If you attempt a flash with a faulty port, you could end up with some really serious issues. If you want to replace the board (it costs less than a replacement genuine battery) read my guide........
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335961
it should be of some help to you......
Edit.....if you choose the ICS stock firmware, stay away from 4.0.4......search emmc brickbug if you want to know why......

I put on my phone different baterries and it always shows different percentage. Cleaned micro-usb port and nothing changed.
@edit: i went to service and they have montage new micro-usb module, we will see what will happen

[Q] S2 slowly dying

After a night time charge, my phone started to perform strange and I can't seem to get out of the situation.
It started with the temperature display showing on the battery when turning on. I am unable to start the phone, without it being connected to a powered on charger.Without a powered cable in, it just powers off, then goes back to the battery / temp display.
Upon starting, the phone runs fine, apart from the fact that it thinks there is something plugged into the USB port. This sometimes shows itself as the phone thinking it's still being charged to it thinking it's plugged in as a USB data connection. The USB port has been cleaned with the same outcome.
The phone can go from showing 0% charge to being flagged up as fully charged in under 10 minutes. Power the phone off and it will revert to charging as normal.
I'm unable to connect Odin to reflash as the USB port is detected as "unknown" device and I've tried this on numerous machines with the same outcome.
I'm unable to boot into recovery mode with clockworkmod, this coming up with the standard samsung boot options.
Is there a rom that I can copy over the phone, that will pass the Samsung validation check for ROM installation with the Down / power / action button combo.
I getting a bit frustrated with this at the moment, so any help advised will be great.
Cheers
Same thing happened to me, kinda, flash hyperdroid 4.0,you won't be sorry and it'l fix your. Problem.

try cleaning the usb port mate if it has dirt/dust/fluff in there it can cause big issues http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132588 that thread may help a bit
it could also be abad battery causing issues
i would try
#reading that thread and trying the fixes
#putting phone back to stock ie factory reset or flahing a new rom and kernel
#ordering a new battery

Cheers for all the info so far.
Things tried.
Different battery
USB port cleaned with isopropyl alcohol with both Qtip and new tooth brush.
Numerous factory resets
Battery left out for an hour for full reset
Wipes with CMW recovery with SD card in and Out
I am unable to connect to a machine, so I am unable to use Odin to reflash.
I've just ordered a Jig, so will try that as soon as it arrives.
I'll try the hyperdroid 4.0. Does that flash ok with the stock bootloader as the CWM recovery does not boot, even though the phone is rooted ok.

Well an update to my issues.
The Jig turned up today, after two inserts the usb port occasionally was detected correctly. This gave me enough time to reload the kernal.
After another Jig reset (successfull this time) I was able to connect to Odin and reflash the handset.
The battery is still reporting funny things (goes from 60% to full in 5 minutes or charges normally) so I'll be doing a few more resets / wipes and reinstallations to see if I get to a normal place.
Thanks for all your help.
I have the similar problem as yours.
From time to time the phone thinks its connected to USB.When this happenes I get a "Batery Overvoltaged" reading using Batery Spy App. And I can't connect to my PC using USB. The other thing happening is the phone is waking up as soon as I turn it off and if I try to turn it off again it freezes and u need to reset or pull the batery out. I though I solved the problem when I left the phone off without batery for 12 hours but that only worked for a day and now it started again this time it switches to driving mode on and off, and USB connection. I tried Hard reset ,reverting to a stable ROM with CWM , cleaning the port with alcohol, puting the phone without the back cover and the battery in a bowl of rice for 12hours(water damage?) , cleanng caches, battery stats, different kernels, removed the SD card.
I don't know what trigers this but it drains battery fast and I too had the batery going from 30% to zero in a flash and the fast charginng atleast once. Couple of times the phone even started by itself when inserted back the batery...
Please keep me posted with your progress, I surfed google and found this particular problem several times in other places so it happens more often than I though, but no one posted a fix, or atleast what is causeing the problem

[Q] USB connection problem

Since 2 days i have this problem.
When i connect my phone to the adapter it takes several seconds before it actually charging. But when it's full and i dissconnect it from the adapter it just keeps saying that my battery is full and i have to remove the charger.
When i connect my phone to the computer its keeps saying that he doesn't recognize the usb connecter.
What i have tried so far.
- Trying different chargers/cables
- Trying to update software but this can't be done without cable @ me
- Trying to clean up de usb port in the phone
- Battery reset
I have searched whole google and this forum but couldn't find anything related to this. so sorry if it's a repost
First up, do a factory reset. Back your stuff up before, obviously.
What rom/kernel are you running ?

When i did the factory reset it went in a bootloop for some reason.
I am using 2.6.35.7 codeworkx clockworck. I have rooted the phone and put clockworck on it nothing more... and it always worked fine.
I noticed something new. When i put off my phone you see the battery and next to it you see a yellow triangle with a exclamation mark in it. After that it changes into to a temperature meter showing it's to hot but i allready checked it and it's only 37 degrees.
First of all try the most obvious method such as turning on USB debugging. If that doesnt work go to the method below:
There is no need to do a factory reset. Just reflash your rom or flash a new one but make sure you have done a backup of your files. It worked for me

Sounds like the battery and/or the usb/charging circuitry/components might be on the fritz.
Try Steve's suggestion first (re-flash your rom or another rom), if that doesn't work, try another battery. Or even another charger. Tho you said you're seeing problems when you hook it up to a PC via USB.
If you get the same result after re-flashing same/different rom & with a different battery it would probably be a hardware fault.
I'd flash stock first & try that before restoring any backup, that would give you an indication of whether its a hardware issue (particularly with a different battery).

[Q] [SOLVED] i9100 USB issues?

Hi there,
A few days ago, I noticed my i9100 (international s2) was barely charing anymore. It would take ages (hours, literally!) to charge to 20 percent while off, and when on, it would even drain slowly while being charged. I switched to another charger and I had the same problem.
I decided to downgrade to official firmware (was on cm10.1 before), but noticed my computer wouldn't recognise my phone anymore. It wasn't a driver issue, because my ubuntu, my netbook and my tablet wouldn't see it either. In fact, there wouldn't even be a USB-debugging icon on my phone. Windows does, however, make the connected sound and my phone does charge.
I reinstalled stock firmware via CWM, but still nothing. So I'm sort of afraid this is a hardware issue. I'm looking to sell this phone within a month (I've bought a Nexus 4!) but I want it to be in working order.
Do I need to contact Samsung, or is there anything else I could do myself?
Thanks in advance.
edit > Additional info: Windows tells me my device has malfunctioned.
Replace USB flex in phone. If it's still under warranty, reset the flash counter & send it in. If there's no warranty, you can do it yourself. You can buy the parts cheaply online (Google search) & do it yourself, there are threads on here & a Google search should yield the info you need to change it. If you're not confident enough to do it yourself, buy the parts online & pay a local mobile shop to do it.

I'm still under warranty, so that shouldn't be a problem. I just wanted to confirm it was a hardware problem.
I'll try to reset the counter, then call Samsung. Thanks!
@lasic, Thanks, but since there also is a USB connectivity problem, I don't think a new battery will fix that.
Edit -> However, I've encountered a new problem. Because I've flash a CWM flashable ZIP, even my current ROM knows it's been tampered with. I can't use ODIN to flash an original factory image from sammobile.
Sounds a lot like it given what you described. Make sure you backup before you send it in, 'authorised repairers' are notorious for wiping phones/flashing new stock firmware regardless of what's wrong with the phone
Re: the 'new' problem, what happens when you try to flash a stock rom with Odin ?

Yeah I'm prepared for factory resets I'll make sure to back-up all my photos and carbon backups as well
When I try to connect my phone to Odin, it just doesn't see it, so it's the same problem. I don't think I can use USB to flash a stock rom anymore Right now, I've flashed a stock rom using CWM, rooted it, used TriangleAway and will probably unroot it after. But Samsung would be able to see the traces (such as wrong recovery, maybe more.
Ahhh OK. Perhaps flash a stock rom with Mobile Odin ? Also, there used to be CWM flashable stock roms somewhere in the General section. Or...Perhaps if there's an stock Kies/OTA update available, if you use that it should unroot your phone/give you stock recovery back.

Mobile Odin did the trick and my phone is up for repairs. Should be no trace left. Thanks!

[Q] Empty Battery Bootloop

I had a recent soft bricked due to some "unknown" problems which I couldn't figure out.
Anyways,I was able to boot into download mode and successfully flashed the stock jellybean firmware via Odin.
Now the problem is that my battery is empty and the phone is stuck on an what I think is an "Empty Battery Bootloop" was the battery icon blinking every 5 seconds or so.
Any ideas how to revive it ?
PS : I am unable to boot into recovery as well.
I have attached a screenshot of the issue I am facing.
Ur screenshot says... 404 error
Re-linked.
Maybe something went wrong while you were flashing the ROM via odin. First of all did you tick Only the right options while flashing in odin?
Supposing you did,
1. Maybe the ROM file which holds information for your battery might be facing curroption.
2. Maybe the kernel (the default one coming with the stock ROM) was not flashed properly.
In either case, I would suggest trying to boot into download mode and try to flash the whole thing all over again. If the problem persists, flash a different kernel/ROM or both.
II'm pretty sure that should fix the problem though.

Tried flashing via Odin for like three consecutive days.Still no luck.
I have googled it and found out that some users were facing the same problem when their battery was completely empty and the phone wont start because it didnt had enough juice to boot up.You know how to solve that problem?

Just keep it on charging wid 0.7mA or a 1mA charger for few hrs... if still it doesnt work..use a usb cord to charge via lappy...
Also use someone else's battery to boot up... and make a wipe data via stock recovery
Charged with USB for about 4-5 Hours.I cant get hold of a 1mA charger here.Using another battery is nearly impossible for me since none of my friends seem to have a S2.
Any other phone which has a battery identical to ours? (Or a Samsung phone with 4 pins possibly.)

Nope. Don't try a battery not designed for the device. Asking for trouble.
Time to change it with a new battery or hook up with an external charger?
PS : Took it to a local mobile repair shop and asked for a universal battery charger.
When I gave him the battery, the first thing he asked was if the phone ever got wet.
He said there's some I don't know what on the battery due to licking it.
I recently replaced the charging circuit from a trusted Samsung shop and he says it's totally fine.
Seems like some kind of corrosion on the battery.Any ideas on how to remove it ?
Anyone ?

Random Reboot

Hi,
I am on Archidroid 1.7.11 , Kernel Boeffla 5.2 b 6a , my phone randomly reboots and is stuck on Samsung Logo, after trying 2 -3 times I am successfully able to get to the Main working screen and It works perfectly normally, but sometimes after 4-5 hours it again reboots and is stuck on Samsung screen , after 2-3 tires I am able to get it working normally. My phone is not hot, I tried 4.1.2 ROM and same thing happens with that ROM as well. Today, I formatted my EXT SD card and this problem is occurring after that (it might be a coincidence).
Is my problem related to:
1. SD Card
2. Power Button
3. ROM
4. Power button (I don't see that it is stuck).
or just 5. SDS?
Please advise as I am out of warranty and pretty worried about the same.
Sounds like firmware corrupting due to nand memory failure. Flash the official 4.3 stock rom, factory reset and test before you install or restore anything.
SDS is sudden, the phone dies and will never boot again.

Thank you very much for the reply. However It will be great if you can share a good firmware to flash (may be a link if you could) and also , do I need to flash it via ODIN with PIT ? Please advise.
I suggest try with new Kernel. Try stock or LiteGX kernel.
I am on latest Boeffla kernel and phone is working fine at the moment. I noticed that earlier it used to reboot when phone was not in use. While using, the phone never reboot earlier. Also, my voltage is sometimes unstable like 500 MA but replugging the charger pin solves the problem. Can someone suggest If my above problem is related to USB port on my phone?
Sent from a better Galaxy designed for humans!
Its been now alomost 24 hours since I got any reboot issue. In the interim I cleaned the USB port on my phone via toothbrush and also made sure that My power button is not stuck.
I wanted to share this so that any one who has this kind of problem in future can take the steps from the steps I took to troubleshoot this problem.
I will report back in case I see this issue again .
Thank you everyone for amazing help!
