[Q] I Need Help , Lost Signal - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi !! i have a problem, I bought a second note everything was fine but when I got to buildings or basements even in mu fourth network signal was rather weak horn that had no bar .... look out there changing the modem might fix and change and now only in airplane mode stays and never leaves there who help me?

What country are you in? You might just be in a poor reception area.
But . . . You can experiment with flashing different modems. You have to first flash a custom recovery -- I prefer TWRP. Once that's done you can flash your modems.
Another possibility is that the phone has a bad antenna. Some shipped from the factory that way. Is there a Samsung shop near you?

Thanks for your answer, first living in Honduras, and if there is a samsung store, which modem I can use to return the signal as it was?

i9300 no network

HI,
i have a SGS 3 i9300 that had a bad EFS folder and it wouldn't connect to the network. I was fully aware of of the ramifications and issues of a bad EFS folder so i had it repaired from a service center. The Problem is that even though my IMEI and SN are fully restored( i have flashed multiple roms and they remain intact) I still have no signal and cant connect to the network. Is it possible that the EFS is still a problem or maybe is it a hardware issue? Anyway i can tell?
the phone keeps showing no signal symbol most of the time with or without a SIM card inserted. Also i have tried ariza patch with android 4.1.1
and android 4.0.4 (ariza patch 0.5)
Thank you in advance for all your inputs ,
Erind
No wrong IMEI .Or IMEI blocked by a network
EFS
Wrong modem for network
Wrong CSC for network.
Are the stock answers to network problems .

Well i am going to try i9300XXELLA firmware since a friend of mine has it and its working with the same carrier i have. One question though will this firmware flashing take care of CSC too? or do i have to flash it separately through some other means
Thanks

Depends upon what CSC is in the firmware .

Solved! (kinda)
i installed XXELLA stock rom and than patched with ARIZA V0.5 and there where no apparent changes however this time i had no reception literally no bars just the no coverage sign. Than while i was having a coffee under a cell tower of my operator :cyclops: i had full bars and the phone worked.
Now since it will not work more than 60 feet away from the tower is it safe to say that i have an hardware issue right guys?

Is the fixing of this particular antenna issue expensive? anyone has any experience with this (warranty is loooong gone for me )
when you have warranty you send it to Samsung
i have dropped the phone so there is no warranty on it and that is final. However im really hoping is not a change the whole main-board kinda issue
cause than this phone is to be sold for parts
Checklist .
Is IMEI same as under the battery .
Is your baseband / modem same as for your network .
Have you tried a different Sim
Have you entered the mobile network APN settings .
All yes then possible hardware / antenna loose on connector search for TEARDOWN SGS3 to locate .

everything is ok software wise well nearly everything since im using ariza patch , I made the phone work and all but if im away from the cell tower for more than a few meters the icon changes to no coverage Now i have been looking to teardowns for a while now and the Antenna seems to be part of the main PCB my only chance is that something is loose like you said .
Thanks guys for your inputs hopefully when i get home ill be able to fix it with some handy work and my soldering gun ( or most likely set the thing on fire :silly: )

If you want help you must provide relevant info - and also be able to think a little for yourself!
Have you done anything special to the phone before that? Like programming a ROM in Odin?
Is the IMEI in place?
im new to the s3 and dont have a clue about what anything is. ive never done anything to it.....

Hi I think this may be an issue in some parts of the world, but not all. I have regular signal cuts like this in South Africa, but generally only when I'm in an area with weak cell signal. My wife also has a S3 LTE and gets the same signal cuts. When it happens I reboot my phone and it's fine again. I even went back to stock to test and it still happens on stock, just as it did when I first got the phone in November 2012.
I've been on AOSP roms the last few months and then it was fine, no signal cuts. Same with my wife's phone. Now I'm back on stock and the signal cuts are back, albeit not so often anymore, maybe one or two a week. I'm going to run stock for a few weeks and see if the issue persists.
What modem are you using? Have you changed it or is it the same modem that came with your phone?

a MODEM IS A MODULATOR DEMODULATOR . basically the bit that connects to the network .
Modem = Baseband .
\Suggest one factory reset two if that fails service centre and three read the basic faqs and guides .

you need to search before you post. also, answer my question for further troubleshooting

Galaxy s2 poor signal indoor.

Hi i have an Samsung Galaxy s2 and it has verry poor signal,if i go inside house i get no signal at all, only outside i have signal but is not full.Anyone can help me?
Are you sure your network provider provides good coverage in area? If yes, you can try flashing a different modem.
That's normal for any phone/dependent on what spectrum (frequencies) & equipment the carrier uses. I'm in the same situation at home in particular.
Its normal when i enter a building to get no service?
Sometimes. Depends on the building, depends on the topography of the area, depends on the frequencies your carrier is using, depends on the equipment your carrier is using in nearby cells (this can vary widely from area to area even with the same carrier).
Have you modded the phone at all - flashed custom roms/kernels/etc, specifically have you flashed different modems or RIL's ? If you're running the modem that was on the phone when you bought it (or a modem that came bundled with a stock rom released by your carrier if you've done OTA updates), it's either:-
A) One of those carrier-side issues or
B) A hardware problem.
And as Banjara said, the only thing you can do about A (the solution to B is obvious, take it to a mobile repair shop or Samsung service centre) is to try flashing different modems to see if that improves things. If you're already running a modem bundled with a stock rom released by your carrier however, trying modems released with stock roms released by other carriers/in other countries is unlikely to improve things much (if at all) for a very simple reason.
Modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier have been (one would assume this is the case with all carriers at any rate) tested so they work for most people on your carrier's network most of the time. If you're getting poor connectivity with one of those, switching to a modem meant for another carrier's network probably won't make any difference.
So...Where you go from here depends on your answer to the question I posed in para 2.
Also imei is a generic one.
You didn't answer my question (IMEI's don't disappear all of a sudden on their own for no reason), so I'm going to leave it to other people to attempt to help you here. Nothing personal, but I have no desire to play 20 questions with you/'pull teeth' in order to get the info I need to help you.
Wait until someone else decides to help you.

[Q] People ringing me but the phone doesn't ring while saying "Emergency Calls Only"

[Q] People ringing me but the phone doesn't ring while saying "Emergency Calls Only"
Cheers guys! Hopefully i won't be boring you much!
I have this Blue S3 GT-I9300 16GB unlocked. Last week i flashed efeXtreme ROM on it but due to overheating, battery draining and lag, i decided to revert back to a stock ROM. And that's exactly what i did. Can't remember exactly which but it was a 4.3. Anyway, while using the phone with that ROM, i could actually see the phone's signal going down and in a few seconds the phone would say "No Service". At first i thought it was the network / carrier. Tried a Meteor, a Vodafone, an O2 and my 48 SIM card. No difference. So the problem was clearly the phone. And since then the same problem. The funny thing tho, i live 10km outside the closest town, where ironically when i go to, my signal is full, H+ full signal. And when i return, the further i am from town the worst my coverage is, so basically, halfway home and my phone's stuck on No service. With any other phone that i have in my house, S5, Nokia 5230 and an N90, there's no problems.
And here i am now, tried flashing a 4.1.2 stock ROM, nothing but problems. Flashed a few radios, modem_RIL_CWM_I9300XXEMC2, modem_RIL_CWM_I9300XXEMG4, modem_RIL_CWM_I9300XXEMG5, none of them helped. Flashed the Siyah Kernel. No difference. Even lost my IMEI and S/N twice, which weren't a problem for my Z3X. And now, my Mrs. is ringing me telling me the call rings out with no answer while my phone never actually rings and the status bar keeps saying Emergency Calls Only. And BTW, Emergency Calls is permanent now, home, in town, everywhere. Any ideas? Maybe a Custom ROM could help me? Please help me out here lads. Thank you!

Emergency calls is permanent now because constantly flashing from 4.1 to 4.3 as corrupted your imei without a efs backup your only hope is a patched modem and kernel. If that does not work then it is service repair.

Thanks for your quick reply. You see, the EFS is not a problem for me as i can flash, wipe, rewrite it with my Z3X box. With it i can fix Wi-Fi MAC address, Bluetooth MAC address, S/N, IMEI. When my IMEI number first switched to 0049xxx i just changed it back manually with the box and the phone worked fine in town. But i was still hoping i'd make it work at home too!
About the patched modem and kernel. Can you please elaborate on that? I could really use all the help i can get!

When Samsung introduced 4.3 it changed the efs from efsv1 to efsv2 basically to cut along story short this meant in some cases the efs could not read 4.1 modems and in some cases where the efs got corrupt it could not read efs v2 modems as well. So there are some patched modems and kernels in the forum that allow the efs to be able to read the new modems. Look here >> https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list << you need to flash the kernel and modem for it to work (although it doesn't work in all cases)

That's brilliant! Flash a 4.3 stock, and applied the patched radio and kernel. The phone is back to square one now. Which means, i get coverage in town but nothing at home. And 2 weeks ago the coverage at home was decent. Any suggestions for that?

Try a different patched modem from the link I gave you their are a few to try. Obviously the patched modems are working because you can get coverage in town if they had failed you would not get coverage wherever you are. Sounds more like a network problem then the actual phone but like I said there are different modems in the link so one might work better than the others depending on your country etc.

i9100 weak signal : normal or faulty motherboard?

Hi, i have a gt-i9100 and i noticed it has weak 2g/3g signal ,even compared to other old phones. In the same spot and with the same sim card ,only the i9100 is not able to receive phone calls and i also tried different usb flat port and different antenna cables and i tried also the only cmda 3g mode.
Are all the i9100 like this or mine is faulty ? Could i solve this if i buy another motherboard, even a chinese one? Thanks
check the modem you have and perhaps change it

Thank you , i tried many different modems and many stock rom versions with ms2 , ms3 ,ms4 etc ,but in some places where the signal is weaker the s2 is always the only phone which is not able to receive calls, even if phone status info shows 10 asu and the icon has 2 bars. When the signal is a little stronger it works .
Did you never notice this problem compared to other phones?
I could buy another motherboard but i don't want to end up with the same problem if all the i9100 has this level of reception.....
If you have changed the USB board in the phone, then that is probably your problem. It likely has NOTHING to do with the modem.
There are several variants of the USB board and you *HAVE* to replace the board with the same variant you removed, otherwise loss of signal can occur...
I wrote a guide on this very subject.
It will help.
