I have a Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100) and it was on t-mobile and had t-mobile software and logo appearing at the start up. I wanted to remove it so I downloaded odin and stock rom 4.0.3 and flashed it using odin and everything went pretty well and phone started but at the start i got the error "unfortunately the process.android.process.acore has stopped" I factory resetted the phone and it was gone and the phone worked ok. After I checked for an update and there was a software update so I done this update but this time through the phone connecting wireless to my home network and it was stuck while installing Foto Package and showed an error. I pressed few buttons power and home button and so on and it carried on installing and installed it correctly now I have the android version 4.0.4 on the phone (Phone is working). My question is I checked an update again and there is a new update: PDA:LSW / PHONE:MS2 / CSC:LS5 (XEU).
Shall I risk and try to upgrade it or just dont take the risk and leave it like this. And if you recommend me to upgrade please advice me what would be the best way to do it? Through phone, odin or kies... Thank you for reading and sorry if im in the wrong thread for this.
Just do it via odin, and factory reset. You get the firmware from sammobile.Just fill in the boxes and choose xeu(which is unbranded) opposed to any listings for tmobile.
And make sure 4.0.4 is gone before factory reset, just in case lol.

You might want to do a nandroid backup first.. If everything is okay right now, maybe you should try kies, since its less likely to fail.

Yeah, kies is indeed a useless pile of junk but take note that he got into this mess when he flashed via odin, maybe he does something wrong with odin, i thought kies would be easier and safer (for him).

First he failed with odin, (odin is clearly not responsible but the fact is he used odin and failed) then he failed with OTA, so i thought he should try kies now, i would try with odin if it was me tho.

I am new with the Android,
i have a i9100 galaxy, which i have flashed and other phones also (for freinds) several times with new firmware 2.3.4
Bubut this time i was trying ICS on my s2, after installing ICS with odin the phone did not perform well and it was not upgrading the market to google play, so i decided to reformat and install from scratch,
I entered the recovery mode and formated all options then into download mode and i tried to install ICS and the install was not successfully, then i do not why! i decided to reflash the pit, all went well and after the flashing it shut down and never came back on again
Now i have an expensive brick.
It does not start at all (i have tried download mode, recovery mode, remove battery etc.. no luck) it is totally dead
Any one Help !!!!
Thank you
Alot of guides said never do the .pit repartition because you may hard brick your device. Send it to samsung service center for repair.

Seriously, why cannot people understand that flashing the PIT file is totally unnecessary and will more often than not, end up bricking your device?
You'll need to send it to Samsung for repairs.

Thank you for the quick reply, i was hoping for a different answer
i have read that that a JTag cable might help i will try later and get back with results
JTAG repair equipment is expensive & takes expertise to use. You can send it to someone who does JTAG repairs; this one in the US does them for $50 USD, no doubt there are others you can find via Google.

Same problem here , after flashing PIT my phone goes black with no respond at all , no charging .....
As stated on other link, sounds like youve both flashed the wrong pit file and the only repair for this is JTAG service.
Flashing a pit is safe, so long as you do it the correct way and flash all the accompanied files, ive flashed samsung pits and never bricked before, there shouldnt be confusion because samfirmware release a lot of stock roms with the pit file and theres plenty of guides to flash them and there is only 1 pit file by samsung for the i9100, its really up to you guys to make sure you are using the correct file when flashing your phones, if you dont know then you should never touch anything more advanced than a 1 file package.
Hope you get them sorted but i think youll have problems.

Yes I searched, if I missed "the thread" please just point me in the right direction and save that awesome sarcastic comment you've been waiting to unleash for someone else.
Here's the deal:
So I tried to help my girl get official ICS last nite.
Installed kies (Win7 32bit home edition) and plugged in the Note, but kies said it can't install the upgrade for some reason. No other information. This was as soon as I plugged in the phone.
The phone is 100% stock. (ATT version)
Any ideas?

It wipes the phone?
I guess you didnt get the memo?
Yes it wipes the phone.
Put the phone in download mode first, then open Kies and do the following.
Get your serial number and model number(behind the battery) and put it into the Firmware upgrade and initialization under the Tools Menu. Then it upgrades and wipes the phone.
I suggest you backup via Kies or Nandroid first though.

Well I'm on note #3 since the update was released. I'm thinking no OTA so there was no blame to place on ATT. Today at the ATT service center I was told that they had seen multiple phones that day for the same issue. The strongly advised against updating, or at least using the route Samsung offers. I also followed the directions to the letter and bricked two phones. Ill chalk it up to a bad DL of kies last Thursday night. The Samsung tech that I spoke with last night told me that it wasn't a systemic issue on the note and that she would make a "note" of it. The Samsung tech that I spoke with this past weekend told me to not try to update to ICS until at least today. He advised me to wait longer if possible.
The ATT service center said just the opposite and directed me to watch the forums They have been very helpful in replacing phones, next day shipping in my case since the SC didn't have them in stock. Samsung asked me to send it back to them for repair and said I would be without a phone for 5-7 business days plus shipping? I don't consider that acceptable being that I have both insurance and a warranty on a phone that was purchased 36 days ago. I wont be attempting the upgrade on this new phone for sometime, Id rather have a working phone for business at this point. I'm sure its a very simple process and I'm doing something incorrectly, like not putting it in DL mode. Either that or I have techherpes and shouldn't be touching any HW.
Hello everyone,
Hoping you can help me before my mrs cuts my nuts off. She asked me to update her GS2 (GT-I9100 on 02) and completly wipe the phone as she has had random apps appear etc etc.
I said that wouldnt be a problem as ive done alot on my GS3, though i am still pretty new to the Android scene (Previously iPhone).
So she was on Stock 4.0.4 XXLQ6 firmware.
I followed the guide to root from here as i was aware of the hardbrick bug in this firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
After that it was time for the Wipe data etc and flash the new rom. I chose JELLYBAM as its Android 4.2 with a mix of other things. Sounded perfect.
I followed all the steps EXACTLY from the Devs page:
http://www.igio90.net/how-to-install/
All seemed to be going well at first, got to select afew options etc. Then it said it was Extracting the package...This is were the problems started.
It was stuck at 2% for AGES, then out of the blue the screen just went BLACK/BLANK......Hmmmm i thought!
I have since been trying to source info from everywere about how to turn the phone back on but having no luck at all. I have tried all the Soft/Hard boot methods, ive left it on charge (Yes it gets hot near the camera) and tried all boot methods whilst plugged into laptop with ODIN loaded up.
Nothing seems to be working.
Any help what so ever will be much appreciated. This device was never previously rooted. Im gutted a it was all going so well...I shoulda guessed something would go wrong.

Thank you for your reply, Unfortunatly i cannot enter any mode what so ever. The phone is literally dead...yet getting VERY hot as its plugged in.
Was thinking about taking it in to O2 2mora and seeing what they can do. Damn.
If your still under warranty you should get a new motherboard. They won't be able to tell you've rooted it since it seems hard bricked.
Next time, get a custom kernel on it a.s.a.p and backup efs and make a nand backup before you start flashing roms.
Either that or stay away from 4.0.4 stock.

Thanks for your reply, I did put a custom kernal (Sirayh?) on it prior.
The phone was a year old august just gone! Not sure Samsung be interested.
See if you can get your hands on a usb jig.If that fails try for a jtag.
Samsung warranty should be 24 months if you need it.

So you did a wipe on a Samsung 4.0.4 ROM with original kernel? Then you have indeed hardbricked your phone. You said you were aware of this bug, so I can't figure out why you would do a wipe?

JIG & JTAG....will these help solve my problem? Not really clued up on them though i have done a brief look around. JTAG services is not in my area.
NO, on hardbricked S2 JIG/JTAG won't be useful. You can check my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242 for more info.
PS : the direct signs of this kind of hardbrick is a totally dead phone & back side getting hot (near the camera lens)

Just took it to a repair store and he said its knackered, but to be honest he wasnt much help...more interested in the texts he was getting on his phone!.....Typically a GS2...Im still pondering if he was taking the micky :silly:
if your s2 is still under warranty, just take it to the reapir service and tell them that the phone was on charge all night and didn't wake up in the morning
they won't be able to know what you did to it since it's completely unaccessible. If you successfully convince them, they'll change the motherboard !
PS : That isn't my idea but from what I saw in the hardbrick warning thread, most of the concerned people did the same trick ...

I just got off the phone with Samsung and they are taking it in for repair. No local service centers so im awaiting a jiffy bag. Then 2 weeks to get the phone back!

Please be more specific if you expect anybody to bother to help you.
When you say "can't really do anything" that doesnt tell us what you have tried and not tried!
1) Can you enter recovery mode?
2) Can you enter download mode?
3) Have you tried a USB Jig?
4) Have you removed battery for 30 mins?
5) What happens when you power on phone?

Sorry.
1) Yes
2) Yes
3) trying to find now what it is
4) For 30 mins no, for few minutes - yes
5) It starts and then i got some errors memo.process, process.acore and few others (can't remember now). I can get email, explore through home screens and menus, but can't call, receive calls, write messages, look up contacts or memos and stuff only going through screens. Maybe I could do a hard reset or wipe the phone, but then won't i brick my phone?
EDIT: As user Pilaf suggested (thanking him a lot!) I installed a new siyha kernel then did a full wipe / factory reset, seems everything is backing up from google account and phone is working..

So here goes, I was planning to upgrade my sister's SGS2 to JB, which was a i9100 version.
So, i followed the steps on the official nightly thread of CM10
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29280423
but once i did the first step, i thought just in case so i did it, the whole odin process was successful, odin had reset and everything, but right after the reboot the phone wouldn't boot. It would show the samsung logo first, and then the screen goes completely black. i tried going into both download and recovery mode, but failed, same results as the black screen is just there.
Needed some urgent help, do i need a USB jig to run it back on download mode? Googled many forums and threads about this issue and most require a USB jig or to send it back to Samsung. And i've would consider myself quite experienced on flashing roms (did it many times on my own SGS1), or in this case just upgrading from GB to JB, which pretty much requires flashing the rom from CWM, but took the just-in-case route and ended up with this. Really would appreciate the help asap, as my sister's going out of town back to her university this coming weekends after the holidays.
Thank you for you time, and would really appreciate the help.
Your mistake looks to me that youve tried to install ICS cwm when your on GB.
I think you should have upgraded to ICS before attempting any of that.
I would get a jig, then install 4.0.3 stock rom for your region etc via Odin and start again.
If that dont work, then maybe Jtag.
And next time, you should read the install instructions twice!

thanks man, because previously on my own i9000 i just upgraded to ICS straight away just flashing the zip file from CWM, oh my mistake i guess. Getting a jig asap! Thanks again!
Well hopefully a jig will fire it up and Odin will work.Once your at that point then post back here with your phone details and someone can advise which 4.0.3 firmware to get from sammobile.
In the meantime you can try charging up the battery/removing battery for a while......to see if it still wont enter download mode.
Also there may be a jig near you....theres a thread with peoples locations that have them.

How did you make out? I have the same problem and have spent all day searching for a solution. I am close to just buying a new phone out of contract because I can't spend anymore time on it. At this point I am assuming that as a result of rooting, even though I have removed it the OTA update continues to see something and so it won't complete it's update. I even installed the "full wipe" original stock ROM via Odin but no such luck.

I'd also like to know.
Not sure what you guys are doing but if you installed the MK2 no wipe image and did not try to root, the update should go fine.
Hey guys, i had this exact same issue with a stock s4, never been rooted. called verizon and they told me to go to a samsung kiosk inside a best buy store. i had done all the usual stuff, including hard resets. The guy at the samsung store decided it would be best to do a Binary Wipe which wipes every little thing on the phone (take out your sd card beforehand). It worked, i had the update on the sd card and it took after the binary wipe. it is the lowest level wipe you can do. as far as i know only the samsung people can do it... they wipe it and restore stock 4.3 verizon to your phone, then the update will take.
