I have the international version of the SGS3 (i9300) and I tried to flash CM11 Unofficial following this tutorial: http: //www . android. gs/install-unofficial-cm-11-build-for-samsung-galaxy-s3-i9300-android-4-4-kitkat-custom-rom/ I rooted it, flashed CWM 6.0.3.2, wiped the phone and tried to flash the software. Sadly,I forgot to make a nandroid backup and now my phone only boots in CWM and Download Mode. What can I do?
Stupid title does not describe your problem.
What you can do is read the faqs and guides first or pay for a service repair .
Or you could ask where you got your instructions from as the firmware/ link is not XDA .
Hey,
Try flashing latest official cwm recovery fron their official site.
It should work.

Hey
Try these steps (after error comes)
1. Reboot recovery
2. Flash again
This worked on my sgs hopes it works for you..and also this happens due to kernel..

Evening,
Before I get bashed for starting this thread, I have searched the forum and Google but I have not yet found an answer. Also I would post this in the developers forum but I don't have rights to do that yet (post count too low).
Anyway I have been trying to flash my Galaxy Ace with clockworkmod 4.0.0.9 and I cant get it to work, I bought ROM Manager premium to try as well to no avil. When attempting to use the .ZIP file in the recovery mode I get the following:
-- Appling Muti-CSC--

I am using ClockWorkModAce.zip downloaded from this website, I have tried to download the file again in case and that made no difference. Tried using ROM manager to apply it and that failed too. Tried it when phone was rooted and also when not rooted (after fresh Odin flash)
Using S5830XXKPH
Please help, I want to try some of these cyanogen ROMs that I have seen posted on here. Many thanks in advance for any help

Download cwm from here
http://www.mediafire.com/?lv3fbcp1fipxqfg
or if already downloaded go in recovery mod by long pressing home+power
and update from sdcard and select cwm file you put insdcard and install
now reboot.
Now when again you go in recovery mod you found it
and remember never install rom manager it cause brick many ace
Thank you for your reply, however I still get the same message appearing when I try to install CWM... Not being able to find anyone else reporting this problem on the internet I am baffled. hmmmm
Wish I didn't bother paying out for the premium rom manager now, didn't realise it could brick my phone.

What msg come when you trying to install cwm ?
Rebooting the phone and holding power & home button,
Selecting update from .zip,
Then choosing the CWM file, I then get this appear:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...

Dude if not able to install cwm then how about to install rom like coderom 2x or fla.sh1 or any that kind of odin flashable rom. So you can flash it through odin and it have cwm preinstalled so you can then install cynogen mod
and you tried cwm from link i gave?
Or flash first kpb then cwm
Thanks for your help I will go off and explore more into one of the ones that I can flash through Odin. Is there one that you would recommend to assist me on my way to cyanogen mod?
Yeah tried the CWM in your link, do I stand a better chance for using CWM if I flash kpb first?
Thanks given for your assistance

Cwm not installed may cause you done some thing wrong with kph
so.flash first new firmware whether kpb ,ddkq5 or any other
so you can able to install cwm
I will give your advice a go and post back with the results, you sir are a gentleman... thank you
well I managed to flash with Coderom.v2x with Odin, have tried with a couple of different cyanogen ROMs but neither worked. Still got the same errors as above.
I cant be that unlucky that anything I try doesnt work... I must be doing something wrong but I dont know what!!
Well I certainly don't understand how you are flashing from a directory "sideload package". I forgot about the stock recovery menu, is there a choose zip to install function?
I get exactly the same error, but not when I flash my phone, but when I try to root it.
I flashed it with no problem (S5830LUBKP7), but when I try to root it with either up_1.zip or AceGingerRoot.zip, I get the error
-- Install /sdcard ...

Hello all, new user here.
I am trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy SII and am really stuck.
I have rooted the phone, installed ROM Manager and flashed Clockwork MOD Recovery, but when I try to backup my current ROM I see this:
- Initializing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have options to:
reboot system now
apply update from sd card
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? I am dying to install my new ROM :-(
Any help/advise you can give me will be much appreciated.

You don't have CWM recovery, that's stock recovery.

what's the difference? I thought having cwm installed would automatically work just like any other app..
I'm rooted, using a stock ROM (I'd change it if I got cwm to work), firmware KI8.

For what its worth.. I tried restoring a backup using RM and ended up in "android system recovery" instead of CWM, and also got installation aborted. After a reboot I ended up in CWM and the restore finished. Strange stuff..

The question for post one is as always .
Does the instructions for the custom rom install say install via Rom Manager .
No idea what the rom is so cannot check .
Most of them say root kernel with Chainfires CWM and root Kernel and flash rom via CWM .

You need to flash a kernel that has CWM. This is usually done via Odin or Heimdall. Once you get CWM recovery on your phone you'll be set to flash zip files for ROMs and whatnot.
If you don't know how to flash the kernel.. start at the beginning and read a helpful guide or instructions. Sorry on my phone now and don't have any links handy..

FIRST PAGE SAYS .
If you install for the first time SensatioN ROM, I recommend you to use the WIPE version. The NO WIPE version should be used if you are already on SensatioN ROM or on other fully deodexed ROM.
Before you install SensatioN ROM, make sure that you have CF-ROOT kernel installed on your phone, or ninphetamine.
Steps to install CF-ROOT kernel:
1.Download the kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...8&d=1312203859
2.Power off phone, and enter in DOWNLOAD MODE
3.Put the downloaded zip into PDA section of ODIN, and flash it
4.Let the phone reboot
Steps to install the ROM:
1.Copy the ROM file on your SD card
2.Reboot you Phone into CWM
3.Navigate to Install Zip from SD Card
4.Select Choose ZIP from SD Card
5.Select SensatioN_ROM_by_CRYSIS_i9100_(no)wipe.zip
6.Wait until the ROM is installed and reboot your Phone.
7.If you have any bootloops with the NO WIPE version, you will probably need WIPE .
No mention of ROM MANAGER here maybe you have other instructions or its the usual ??

It's easy to fix this.
Open Rom.zip by Winzip or 7zip.
Find system/build.drop
Extract it and open by Notepad++
Delete getprop..... (maybe it have 2-3 lines)
Save and put new build.drop to you Rom.zip by Winzip.
Good luck
A newer recovery like CWM 6.0.4.5 is required.
You can either flash the recovery directly or a kernel/rom which has the newer version of cwm.
I installed cm11 nightly update 613. Install was successful and phone is working fine. I am encountering the following error on trying to install gapps by using install zip option we get on pressing volume up+power+home buttons:
file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory
E: Error in /storage/sdcard1/pa_gapps-full-4.3-20131102-signed.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
I tried installing gapps 4.4 modular full instead of 4.3 but got the same error.
I noticed one particular error, whenever I try wipe data/factory reset, everything is fine except this one thing:
Error in mounting /data!
Dont know if this is causing the trouble. I also tried usind a different sdcard(written in some thread) in case there was some problem with the current one, but same errors arise.
I am new to all of this. This is the first time I rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM so please provide a solution in simpler terms, thanks.

Would that make any difference? Latest is 6.0.4.7, I am using 6.0.4.6. Most of the tutorials to install kitkat on s3 use cwm6.0.4.6
6.0.4.7 doesnt have tar for odin I guess, so 6.0.4.6 would be the latest stable cwm.

Status 7 errors are usually due to using an incompatible recovery so yes using an older CWM may be the problem, out of interest have you tried flashing cm gapps ?

Well, a few potential issues I see...
1) You're trying to install a stock rom from the OEM on a custom recovery
2) Your CWM is out of date for newer versions of Android
3) Your build.prop (located in /system) has a different product code which is why it gives you the Status 7 error
Haven't played with that particular phone, since it isn't offered where I live, but quite certain the main issue is number 1. OEM updates are meant to go through the stock recovery.

So now I'm confused... You already have CWM installed, so obviously you've been through the process of installing a recovery. So you just need to find the stock recovery and install it and try the update zip again. You can't accept official updates when you are using a custom recovery. This is the same with EVERY android device. I really can't break it down any simpler as this is the most basic way of saying it.
uninstall cwm

You already have the stock rom, which you mentioned on the 1st post. This kind of thing seems a bit over your head. You might want to see if there is a competent shop around you that can help you with this before you make it worse...
