[Q] Problems With Large (>10,000 Files) data.img Backup. I Can't Get My Data Out!

Hi guys,
I'm at my wit's end with this one.
I have a 1.2GB data.img file created with Clockworkmod Recovery backup. I believe it was one of the older versions, in the 3.x.x.x range. When this was created I had plenty of space available on the SD and the MD5 was created successfully.
I have had no luck restoring this with any version of CWM. Restoring simply results in a system that won't boot; I am presented with either a black screen or a boot-loop. I have since learned that this is because my backup has too many files. Apparently CWM is hard-coded to restore a maximum of 10,000 files and will not restore anything past that point. I found a thread where someone had edited the source code to increase this limit to 50,000, compiled and flashed it, then successfully restored their backup. Aside from the initial editing, I would not know where to start to do this for my phone (SGS2)
Furthermore, I cannot extract the contents with unyaffs.exe for Windows. When I try to do this, it extracts a small portion of files (around 170MB), then exits with the following report :
Code:
read image file
: Bad file descriptor
read image file
: Bad file descriptor
I have since learnt that this is due to NTFS limitations with the length of pathnames. 'No problem' I think, and decide to install Ubuntu 11.10 so that I can use the linux version of unyaffs to extract the full thing without these limitations.
After a bit of messing around, I successfully compile the unyaffs source (I'm no expert in these matters). I then attempt to extract data.img and after a short while processing I get another error! :
Code:
Segmentation fault
Out of interest, I checked how much data had been extracted and got 9,544 items, totalling 204.2 MB. So I'm roughly 1 GB down.
Please help, you might not believe the hours I've spent to get to this stage and I still can't get all of my data back. I need my contacts (Google didn't back them up apparently), messages, app data and anything else I can get my hands on. If there's a better utility I can use for extracting, or perhaps a modified version of CWM I can flash onto my SGS2 so that I can restore the backup properly, I'm all ears.
Look forward to any responses and thanks in advance.
Just to update, I have now tried ext2explore on Windows 7, as well as yaffs2 explorer on Android. Both will open the .img file but display a blank window.

[Q] Question about a possible vulnerability

Hi
I make a POC to check a point.
I set a file on the internal sdcard and I write an Android application to read it WITHOUT any permission.
So, I saw it is possible to read any file on the sdcard without to ask a permission. And then it is possible to do that in hiding to the user.
For me it is a vulnerability to have the possiblity to scan the sdcard and to read any file without permission.
What do you think about that ?

[Q] Problem with deleteing files and replacing sounds

Unhappy [Q] Problems with deleting files and replacing sounds
HI all! New use here.
I superuser'd my phone, routed my phone, installed CM11 and all is well. It was my understanding that with apps like RootBrowser and or SuperManager i could browse to files change permissions and delete and remove them or replace them.
I am unable to change my lock sound or boot animation.
Ive granted the permissions to the apps and am operating the root browsers in Root mode. (sorry if my terminology is wrong but im new to this) When i try to replace the files in system/media or system/media/audio/ui they simply dont work, "operation failed". I am able to change the permissions on the replacement files going into these directories to match those im overwriting but its still fails.
Ive even successfully deleted the default lock sound but when i paste the new one into the folder it fails and says stuff like "out of space" or "no room" and then when i shut app and go back in the original file is back!
Can anyone help with this as my lovely rooted phone is being very difficult.
Your partition is mounted as read-only, that`s why you get "operation failed".
Mount it as read / write and should be ok.

Thank you. I now know what to do but not how to do it? Are you able to help or link me to a post on how to do that?
Many thanks

When i use the app SuperManager to browse the file system to "system" folder it asks me "If you want to modify the file in teh system, you have to mount the system image first. Please choose access mode: System IMage: R/O"
then
"Do nothing Read only R/W" so i chose R/W but that does not fix the problem?
My errors i get are "not enough free space" well there is plenty of that!
So confused....
Any thoughts
Just ignore the "not enough free space".
Cant help you with RootBrowser or SuperManager because I never used them. I use ES File Explorer, and mounting partitions with it always solved my problems with not being able to delete / modify system files / apps.

new update s223 upload request.

new firmware update s223 is available. just updated. but, forget to copy the update.zip file.
anyone can upload the 210mb size file here or in any filehosting site or google drive etc., to download to keep a backup. i have all the other backups. this time missed it.
to find the latest update file, after update download complete don't update immediately, click any other option other than "update now". then goto filemanager=>internal memory/sd card memory=>googleota folder=>here u find the newly downloaded update.zip(210mb) file. and copy(don't cut & paste) that file to anyother location and upload it to any filehosting site to download then provide the link here.
note : after updating firmware the update.zip file will be deleted from the storage automatically.
