My brother set up a lock screen pin on his Xperia Go and now cannot access his phone. He was messing around with the phone and ended up setting a pin which he does not remember. He's tried various combinations and nothing has worked.
A factory reset wouldn't be an issue but there are photos which he wants to recover.
The WiFi is connected and his Google account is in tact. He remembers the password to that but the device does not offer any option to reset the pin. I tried installing a free and paid screen lock bypass app but none of them worked, I was going to try installing Screen Lock Bypass Pro through the web market but it says the device is incompatible with it.
The phone is stock, it has not been rooted or modified in any way.
Can anyone please help recover the photos?
Means he can unlock using the account right? If he can, the pin would be disabled automatically. My friend had this before and the phone disabled the pin when he entered his google account.(Galaxy Ace)

Yes that is true, but there is no option to unlock using the account? It does not show the option to do so. We've tried entering over 30 random pins and it would only lock up every few for a few seconds but not show the forgot pin option or anything like that. It is definitely connected to the Internet as I was able to install apps through the web store and could see them install.
are the photos saved on sd card or the phone's internal memory
I had a very good solution if the phone had a recovery mode where you can flash zip files.
I have a script that removes lockscreen security on any phone. But you say your phone is stock, so I cant find any other soluton.
Yes the phone is stock and the photos are on the internal storage, no sd card.
I guess we're screwed?
Edit: I'm not sure if this might be an issue but at first we forgot the Google Account password, so we ended up resetting that using the mobile number that was connected to the account. Could this be the reason the forgot pin didn't show up? Then again even before we reset the account, the option did not appear...

I don't think that can be the reason.
You tried restarting the phone and try to find out the forgot pin option?
But i am not sure if the phone will automatically connect to wifi again.
Edit: Also, did you try searching this Issue on other XDA forums? Maybe that can help too! Good luck!

Does the internal storage not get erased? How do I go about flashing the phone without getting the internal storage erased?

Yes I have tried restarting the phone, it does reconnect to the wifi. I've tried searching around the forums and other places and most things seem not to apply to my case, from what I can see my only option may be to flash the device.

When you try to factory reset the phone, your internal storage does NOT get erased, just the settings, apps, app data get erased. So you have a safe side. But I dont know how will you factory reset the phone.
I think your friend should use flash tool to reflash the ROM I don't know if flashtool work with usb debugging mode off or not but try it

Hi,
As of yesterday, just out of nowhere, my Xpiria mini started randomly rebooting itself in a loop...at first it happened once every few hours and then the phone went back to normal, but now it just happens non-stop, and i can't use the phone at all!
some background:
my phone was rooted and the bootloader unlocked, as a result of solving an overheating issue a few months ago..
so, at first i thought that maybe upgrading the software will solve the rebooting problem, but i couldn't install the upgrade version...i guess because i already messed with the phone in the past it won't let me upgrade it in a "normal" way (tried via pc-companion and via the phone itself).
anyway, i guess i have 2 questions...1. how do i solve the rebooting problem? 2. how do i upgrade the software?
(i don't know much about phones etc, so if you could give me a detailed step-by-step explanation it would be great, and would save many of my stupid questions
please help, my phone is completely useless at the moment...
Use flashtool and flash stock gingerbread or ics firmware. Take a look at the stickies for the firmware and guide about how to do it.

Did everything the guides said, upgraded to ICS which works great, with one "little" problem- the phone only works when connected to charger/pc...
the moment i disconnect it (even when fully charged) the screen goes black and nothing works...it vibrates once when pressing the power button, like it's turning on, but nothing happens...

Are you really sure the battery is okay? Maybe this is the reason? Because if it's bricked up (it=the battery) you can only boot when the usb cable is inserted and you won't get any other reactions...
Maybe you can try another one from a friend and report?

You will need to downgrade with lgnpst to root. It is in topic at top of page on irc.

Yeah you will my bad also I don't know what i was thinking lol but I ran into that same problem and I restored back to like the day I got it and then rooted it and it worked just fine lol Some time's its just like that
Hop into the IRC to get the link to LGNPST so that you can downgrade. I think theres links in the other threads like the conversion, to get the link to the stock firmware. LGNPST is not hard to use, just make sure you have all the correct drivers installed and its quick and painless
I tried to rooting. But phone did not reboot, but it loses cell net.
I reboot it manually and phone now turns on screen for a half second and turns off. And I can not use it (unlock screen is not working).
I can run it in download mode. So what can I do? Download stock ROM and flash it? BTW, what app I need to flash stock ROM?

Question: I also tried to root on E97011c and it got stuck after the restore part and nothing happened. Does this mean nothing was put on my phone? Is it possible it could become messed up now?
I don't remember accepting any ota but I'm rooted and unlocked and I am on software e90711c , I don't know if a ROM changed it or what, but I followed the guide and used the free gee app on play store to unlock boot loader. Let me know if I got things correct: you can't access the recovery, and the setup utility on your play force closes upon boot. Can you still use the phone afterwards or does it restart immediately?
In case it restarts immediately, then I guess the only method remaining would be to reflash a stock rom and/or stock kernel and try accessing and salvaging your data from there on.
In case it allows you some time before restarting, try to make a quick backup of your contacts, messages etc., and try to flash the stock rom and/or kernel and recover your backed up data.
I can't point you to exact utilities and methods as I'm not familiar with Xperia Play, however the Flashtool has always worked for my Xperia P. Try searching the Xperia Play related threads for stock rom ftf files.
Based on the looks of things, if the phone restarts once the app FC's, your safest bet (if your bootloader is still locked) is to use Sony update Service. It will WIPE EVERYTHING in your phone. But, it will work as good as new... Once disadvantage is the lost of data. But if that doesn't matter, then SUS is the safest way.
PS: Your bootloader MUST be locked.

EDIT: Successfully accessed fastboot option.
Well mate this had happen to my Xperia P!
I had almost no memory in system
But still I push a app to system/app nd my system memory was full!
I gave a reboot to make the app work(which I push in system/app)
After my cosmic flow I first got stuck in updating applications!
It took maybe more then half an hour to complete the "updating applications"
Then after boot is done everything Fc!
So then I had to flash my stock Rom again to make my device work!
Lucky me(had nandroid backup)

If you go to you phone settings, choose storage and there you will find the option to encrypt your phone, just need to decrypt it using the password and that's it.
If you don't have the password I believe that after several unsuccessful attempts the phone might wipe and decrypt itself, downside to that is loosing any data.

No, I mean I checked the secure table and the row it tries to insert is already there...
I checked the other posts, but don't seem to help.
The problem appears when flashing the rooted kernel, which means a new zImage and some superuser files.
I'm going to try to flash back the original zImage and what happens.
Believe it or not, I've been suggested to check my IMEI: it was wrong (generic), so I restored my /efs directory from an old backup and the problems are solved!!!
Does anybody know how this can be?
