I see everyone callling the phone styled settings bar a 'bug'. This is not true. All the information available in AOSP and from AOSPA (Paranoid Android Team) points to the fact that the dual pane menu bar is not broken, its just gone entirely... removed.
Without custom roms (even that's a stretch) don't expect to see it come back.

Which is silly. They use the dual pane layout for things like gmail, so why not settings? Also, I think the tablet ui PA is talking about is the SystemUI one, not settings. Like the navbar layout.
My point is: Of course Google did it on purpose, but it's still stupid and should be reverted
Oh dear. I was hoping 'twasn't so, it's really annoying. :/

This. It's a terrible design, and should be put back to how it was.

From Android 4.2 google going backwards with tablets... Removing tablet ui, replacing AWESOME youtube app with this google+ like sh*t, everything for "similar experience" on android phones and tablets, so i have an idea, Google! Make a 5 inch nexus tablet to get similar experience on nexus phones and tablets!

Feel free to release your hate for touchwiz, i know we can use other apps to "fix" our phones but there's not an easy solution for everythin, gwhat are the things that you hate the most about it? In my opinion:
1.The lockscreen: Even tough i like the slider for received sms or missed calls i find it ridiculous, its slow and unpractical, you have to drag the wallpaper through 70% to unlock the phone
2.The launcher: its not that bad, but it is NOT smooth while flicking through the homescreens
3.The cheesy blue font, really samsung? a blue font in menus?
4.The messaging app: again the blue font, and the app it's just an iphone ripoff
5.The dialer/contacts: looks ugly and the image for the contacts its streched :/
6. Autobrightness also in the browser? huh? why?
7. Gallery on drugs? Its all sped up and is not overly responsive
8. No "," on the keyboard ( you have to switch to the special characters)
9. No option to deactivate just the keyboard vibration, in order to do it you must deactivate the vibration on the capacitive buttons too
10. Icons are really ugly
11. Hubs are pointless, the only non disposable one is the game hub
12. Samsung apps are horrendous, has someone download something useful from there?
13. No music widget? um why? i know there's a "shortcut" on the notification but a widget would have been nice
14. No text reflow on the browser
I should also mention that the camera app is better than stock android and i also like the way you change the wallpaper and add widgets, the browser is really smooth , is it true it has hardware
acceleration?
I know gingerbread is fugly but starting from ice cream sandwich just stick to making amazing hardware samsung
1. Normal Android and iOS, you have to drag an a thumb size **** for entire screen rather than anywhere of the screen, seems more hard to me.
2. Same on all androids... Try HTC next time.
3. Where did you get blue fonts? I don't see them
8. *cough* I have "." on keyboard. Do you by any chance use another launcher?
14. Actually text reflows on mine, and it is not TW launcher, it is android
Seriously dude, rest are just "objective" rather than facts.
I like TW and it is lighter than any other "default" launchers on rest of Android devices. Even sense on my friend's HTC's feels slow.
I hope Samsung does not give us butt-naked Android UI for ICS... TW4 is next best thing in Android other than core underground.
Please read why rest of Tech-editor hates Android's UI's, since I did not see much using SGS2... Beside it is not like Samsung locked you to use it. There are too many launchers out there...
I think TW is a good solid launcher. I dont use TW daily, but i dont agree with 90% of your points.
Same as the above poster really. i dont have blue fonts and also have a "." on the keyboard.
I'd strongly have to disagree with the not smooth on the home screens. Mine is seriously nippy.
Probably the only reason i dont use it is that i like to change my icons, so i will give you that one.
The stretching in the dial can be fixed by using a picture with the correct resoultion.

I agree 100% with everything! But you forgot the most annoying thing of all. The king of all annoyances! The child of Annoying Orange and Fred! The 100% battery charge notification!!! Who in their right mind would not think of including an option to turn it off?!
In all fairness, most of these issues (including the ball on leg on a hot summer's day battery notification) can be solved through different apps. But why should I?
edit: forgot to add that there is no stock android music widget (or any at all) in the widget list
i just love touchwiz no complains

1. Is it SO hard to move your finger two centimeters on any direction? Try other phones (HTC, Nexus).
2. Yes, it's quite good for most people. I don't really like it and i use Adw Launcher Ex. There's a lot free alternatives too.
3. What's wrong with these fonts? Are you aware of "Themes" section on this forum?
4. Yes, i totally agree on that one. It's an ifone rip off. On older ROMs at least we had an option to change theme, now it's gone. The only thing that really bugs me so much.
5. Pictures are fine for me and dialer app too. Would love to have an option to jump straight into favorites, instead of all contacts, though.
6. Yes and i love it! BTW, you can click "Menu" and disable it in no time.
7. That's slightly modded stock Android gallery and it's performance depends on amount of media files you have. Also, i guess you have some cheap class 2 SD card. And again, you can use QuickPic from Market, it's free and very fast.
8. I guess you meant "," not "." Yes, that's why i use Gingerbread Keyboard. Again, free on Market.
9. There's is an option to deactivate vibration for keyboard only. Settings - Language and keyboard - Samsung keyboard.
10. Personaly i love every single of them. Again, you can change any icon on this phone the way YOU like. It's Android
11-13 BS. Don't like them - don't use. Simple as that. And try some HTC phone and you will be surprised to find about 20 times more of bloatware.
14. Open browser - settings - auto-fit pages.
As i can see, you don't like every single bit on this phone. Why did you buy it? There's a good bunch of other phones.
And one tip: learn to use your phone, before blaming Samsung
I agree with some of your points, OP.
But the BIGGEST thing (at least in my experience) was how crappy Touchwiz performed compared to AOSP. Again, this is at least in my experience.
I hear good things about TW4 though.... I hope it's true!

Sorry, but I'm not seeing anything other than opinion. The vast majority of people actually really like TW on the S2, rating it higher than the other launchers. As for Sense, that's just another Launcher. You may as well start a thread for your favourite word processor, stating how it's better than the others, and then one explaining why you really like a certain art package or database app.
So you prefer Sense to TW. You should have a HTC phone then, not a Samsung one.
Hello, as the title states the One is my first HTC phone, I technically had the HTC One X+, but only for about 12 hours before my son accidentally dropped it down the stairs. Other than that I have had all Samsung phones. I am loving the One and its working great so far, however there are two things that I am trying to change and have had no luck so far. First off I have tried multiple ROMs but I am currently running Android Revolution 10.1 with no mods other than what comes with the ROM. The two issue I am having are
1) The stock status bar transition from the solid grey to transparent, there is a noticeable delay when exiting an application and returning to the home screen where it takes a few seconds for the status bar to change from the solid grey to the transparent of the home/lock screen, also when unlocking the phone the status bar blinks from transparent to grey and then back, I was wondering if there was a way to make this change instant, or at least make it the solid grey all the time. I have done extensive searching in both the AT&T forums and the international ones, the only threads I could find are http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297043 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291078 and I tried them both but with no luck, the first one just makes it black when it would normally be transparent and the second one I couldn't get to do anything. If someone could point me in the right direction here I would greatly appreciate it.
2) Is there any way to add app closing animations to a ROM? It seems with Sense when exiting an application it just closes back to the home screen with no animation at all, and that kind of kills the smoothness of the phone for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I tried that one and flashed the mods package and couldn't find the option anywhere, from what I understand from reading the forum, since v6 and the update to 4.2.2 a lot of the mods are not compatible and have been removed from the mods package until they are.

yes but themes and tweaks have been updated. idk how much has been implemented but i was running 7.0 and it had the animations
The status bar is like that because of the transparency feature, it did it on some of the aosp Roms I used on my old gs2sr. And I would like some good transitions to/from apps. I agree that it makes opening and closing apps seem smoother.

One way to get a solid notification bar is to install a 3rd party launcher like Nova/Apex/etc. That will make it solid at all times (the lockscreen will remain transparent unless you use something like Widgetlocker or holo locker), plus give you more customization options (like editing icons, text labels, animations, etc.). Seems like that's what you're looking for to answer your concerns.

Yeah that's a great suggestion, I just tried it and not only does it make the status bar solid but also adds animations to the closing of apps. Only issue I can see is none of the third party launchers allow the adding of the stock widgets yet, but I'm sure that will be sorted out in time. Thank you so much!

Anyone know if there is a tweak or rom for android that allows you to add an ios 7 style multitasking tweak for android(stolen from webos). A card of running apps when you swipe up for example...
Thanks.
Do you mean like when hold home for a few seconds or the box over box button that should be to the right of home for some devices. like cm 10.1 tablets for instance?

What phone are you using, and are you using the default ROM or something custom? Android has had multi-tasking available for a long time, but opening it is different on different devices.
Maybe he is talking about the theme?
Which is also very similar to Android imho...
I'm currently using a note ll with the default rom, multitasking is okay but I didn't know if there was an alternative to a webos style multitasking where you don't have to press the home button for a few seconds, but rather do a gesture to view your cards.

there is also one for people with touchpads http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514235 but as far as i know it only works with touchpads. Maybe someone can take it and modify it to work with other hardware
as far as i know this is the closest you might find for android.
Quite a few AOSP ROMs allow you to double-tap the notification bar to turn off the display. However if you prefer the ability to tap any open space on-screen, like stock, to turn off the display, then I've got a treat for you:
Download Nova Launcher
Find the app Nova Settings and load it
Click Gestures and Buttons
Click Double tap
Swipe right to Shortcuts
Select Custom Shortcuts
Select Go to Sleep
Voila! An elegant and extremely snappy solution to turn off the display JUST LIKE STOCK. This works in any ROM that Nova Launcher works in, there is absolutely no difference in speed between this and LG's stock implementation. It's awesome to be able to tap anywhere blank to turn off the screen.
Enjoy!
Seriously? This has been around since the LG G2 came out. Meh.

The op is just giving information, in fact good information. Not a lot of people know about this gesture in Nova.
On a side note, if you don't use nova you can use Screen Off and lock. Its double tap and works with any ROM or launcher. Also has several animation options.

Yes I am aware of these. My problem with them is that they add alot of background data seeing as they are whole other launcher. Also they do not "replace" per se as they only overlay it with floating windows. What I want is a full blown retheme and/or replacement of the real launcher

Try Apollo Launcher, and install the 1.0.9 version (easily found on the web!) as the 2.0 version on the play store now pushes freakin pop ads on your phone, so just manually install on your phone and you will see it solves all of the problems with the port, also check out AppFour products, worth the price for package deal of all of the apps, but the Apollo launcher makes them all a complete package. I wish the Dev at AppFour would design his launcher like the Apollo's product or at least copy the quick app launch built in to the watch face! Good luck!
