What is the best way to update to the stock MJ7 ROM on a Dev Ed. This should also include the MJ7 Kernel.
I know I can flash a stock rooted MJ7 ROM but I also want the stock MJ7 Kernel or is that even possible.
My 2 cents

no its not possible the kernel has been locked since the first bootloader you can only use the stock mdk kernel or a custom one if you are not on the latest Verizon ota. Dev editions havent been updated

It would be nice to flash a stock MJ7 Kernel but A custom kernel like ktoonsez would be fine.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I haven't been able to get a definative explanation of the safest way to update to ME7.
Right now I'm running TWRP, with Carbon v1.8 (stable) and baseband I545VRUAMDK. Does updating your radio/baseband to ME7 affect the kernel? Or do you have to flash a custom kernel to switch to ME7? What's the advantage of flashing a custom ME7 kernel as opposed to the stock MDK kernel?
Sorry for so many questions, i'm just nervous about losing my loki'd recovery

You do not want an ME7 kernel due to the lockdown (at least yet).
You can safely flash the radio. It is separate from the ROM and the kernel.
You can safely flash any of the several ME7 ROMs from the dev section.

Thanks for the quick reply, are there specific instructions for only flashing the Radio? Is it just a flashable zip?

andybones has been nice enough to make flashable files for both the MDK & ME7 radios. You can find them both in post #2 from the BoneStock thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384362.
You flash them from recovery much the same as you would a ROM. No need to do a full wipe though - at least as far as I know.
i apologize if this is already posted but im currently running on stock MDK i have not taken any update since i got the phone and rooted it i have twrp my question is will there be a stock rom of mj7 that i will be able to flash and keep my root and twrp. i see some roms based of mi1 and me7 but none of them look stock i can wait for the rom to come out if there is gonna be a stock room that i can flash

ive seen that thread it says if you have mdk do not take that update, im looking for a stock rom if there will be one available,
thanks for the help
Don't take any OTA or flash anything in Odin except MDK. Just give the devs time to update their Roms Then flash as normal. 4.3 just dropped they will update just hang in there. And there will be stock Roms available.
A good choice if you like the stock feel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384362

thank you sir i appreciate it
As of right now I am on ME7, full stock and I am trying to understand if I can update to MI1 and use Safestrap to use this either Eclipse TW 2.1 Beta 2 or AOSP 4.3 Eclipse 5.1 Build 6 ROM by using MI1 Kernel Modules for Safestrap. If I can't update to MI1 and use either of those, can I stay on ME7 and use one of them by using the kernel module mentioned on the Safestrap thread?
There's so many currently used versions of the S4, and I can't keep straight what can and can't be done, other than that MDK can do whatever it wants.

If you choose to update to MI1 with root, you can install the TW based Eclipse rom in SS along with the MI1 module, but you can run any AOSP based roms since they dont use stock kernal. Just make sure not to update to MJ7 since SS does not work with it yet.

Thank you so much. I am now happily running MI1 Stock w/ root and Eclipse 2.1 TW!
I have always had MKD until recently when I took the 4.3 MJ7 update. Now I see that safestrap is available for MJ7.
Question: can you load any ROM in safestrap or does it have to be a ROM made specifically for SS? I know the Loki'd ROMs all include the kernel, but can you load them too into the SS slots?

Your question is answered in the Safestrap thread - it's VERY DANGEROUS flashing without reading.
No you can't load "any ROM". It must be compatible with the kernel on your stock ROM.
Hi guys, I'm currently running a Hyperdrive RLS10 ROM, but I'm looking into the future with the new KitKat release, and I was interested in trying some of those features when sbreen updates his Hyperdrive ROM. Thing is, I'm a Verizon ME7 user with an MDK phone, and I have no idea how to take advantage of these new features, as from what I read so far, a simple reflash won't work. Can someone tell me exactly what I have to do to get from ME7 to MJ7 and still have my app data and messages? The rest I could reconfigure but I really need to keep the app data.
I've read things about having to ODIN back to stock, and whatnot, but won't that technically kill all the stuff on my phone with no recovery? :/
EDIT: after a bit of looking I'm reading that since I have an MDK phone it's actually fairly valuable for this, but I don't get exactly what for.

Because you can flash ROMs via TWRP.
MDK has the LOKI exploit available with a bootloader that can be bypassed or hijacked.
Look in the ROM area.
You will find what you need.
There are ROMs based on MJ7 4.3 that won't screw up your phone.
You just need TWRP.

Will I need to ODIN or any of that though? And Hyperdrive is at the moment based on 4.3 MJ7 so all I need to do is have TWRP and then I can just flash RLS12 onto my phone like a regular ROM installation?

what recovery do have loaded and how did you flash HD10? You would flash any custom rom the same way. As long as you haven't taken any OTAs or odin'd a higher level firmware you should be good to go
