Rom advice? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!! I'm here (again, and again, and again, and I'll be back again in about 1 week)
I am looking forward to install a new rom on my gs3. I am actually using temasek's build running cm 11.0. It works fine, but I find it a little bit unstable and i really need soooo much more battery! So I don't know what build use.
That's my usage:
Data always on, 24/7.
Music about 3 hours a day.
Gaming for about 1h.
I would really appreciate tips about what rom I should pick^^^
Thank you so much and have a nice night

Sorry to disappoint you but this is still considered as a Best ROM thread. We can't recommended you any. Just try them all and see what fits your usage as this is the only way for you to get unbiased opinions.

Mod Edit
"Best" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.

My question is pretty much specified in the title. I LOVE CM. I have it installed in my N7 and GNex but I've read that CM9 and 10 are in ALPHA stages. Help? Please?

This question sounds or could be in the Nook Tablet Q & A forum. The closest thing to stable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877217 beside certain games title don't work as noted in "Known Issues:" may want to try this even though it listed as UNOFFICIAL. 12/10 is pretty close to a complete solution if you don't mind flashing updated roms and gapps.

I know that when I asked this question once I got this reply which actually was good advice. If you ask 10 people which ROM is best you will get ten different answers. You just need to do your research and pick the one that will give you what you need with the least amount of issues. What is good for someone else is not always good for you. I still use cm7. Doesn't mean that it is the best available, but it provides what I need. It is hard to decide what to use, just try them all until you find what is good for you.

Thanks, I usually try and do my research before asking a question, I've been flashing since the OG Droid but there's nothing solid for the NT as mentioned above by Vector. I'm aware of the few ROMs out with some issues. Getting 10 different answers will always give me an idea of where 10 different ROMs stand which will give me a better insight on them so I don't mind the different opinions and suggestions. The NT is my 8 year old daughter's and I want something stable enough so she won't get frustrated with it but I guess I'll flash something and hope for the best. Once again, thanks for the input.
The most stable ROM by far is celticwebsolutions cm 8&16 GB beta. I have flashed about every ROM available for nook tab. I have run this ROM for months now and even lasted ten days off the charger without a reboot or dead battery( ultra light use of course). Cm 9 and 10 are fun to play with' but are plagued with reboots due to 3.0 kernel issues' etc. Especially for an 8 year old' you don't want freezes and reboots requiring a hard reboot. I really love the cm10 ROMs, but even 1 or 2 freezes is too many for me for a heavy user such as myself. I keep trying them and always revert t cm 7 beta. You are not missing out on any apps sticking with cm7 over the newer builds. A slicker ui and advanced ecosystem are nice though. So nice, in fact I have moved onto a nexus 7 and now my 2.5 y/o son mainly uses my nook now to play angry birds and some others. He navigates around with ease' I would feel uncomfortable setting him up on cm10 as he would often have to come to me for a reset. For us adults' an slightly unstable ROM with extra bells and whistles is just fine. Half the fun for me is troubleshooting and trying new ones. I would go with the mentioned cm 7 and call it a day.

Firstly you need to remember to post any threads in the correct sections and a thread that starts with [Q] has no other place then Q&A.
The reason I've closed this thread is because best ROM threads aren't encouraged on the forum due to exactly what's been said already, you ask 10 people you get 10 different answers, it's too subjective and goes nowhere. The only way you'll know is by reading the development threads and also trying ROM's out for yourself. All best ROM threads get closed for these reasons and why you don't see active best ROM threads here.
Thanks

Getting the DNA soon, please help!

In March I took a break from Android and got an iPhone. However, I've already had enough of it and my DNA is shipping tomorrow. I have some questions and I'd love it if someone could help me. Thanks in advance!
1. How's the battery life? I plan on turning the GPS off and NFC and any other unnecessary settings. I'm sure it'll be better than the iPhone's battery, but I'm still curious. I couldn't get a good answer from Google.
2. I plan on unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone right away. Does it matter which tutorial I use? Are any of them outdated and dangerous to use on the newer update? If it's possible, could I have a link to the best tutorial for both of those things?
3. What's the best AOSP ROM to use? Are the AOSP ROMs even any good? I want them to be just as fast and snappy and battery-friendly as the stock ROM, if not more. I was looking at this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392799
Again, thanks so much ahead of time
I usually end up with about 50-60% battery life left at the end of the day. On my rezound I only had 20-30%.
As far as root goes moonshine is I believe the only working method with the latest OTA, someone please correct me if im wrong on that.
As far as asop not sure on that. Best is always very subjective.

1) Sense: Battery life I would say is good, I can get through a day with some youtube vids (20 minutes or so), surfing the internet (2 hours or so), many calls/texts all day, by the end of the day its ready for a charge. 14~18 hours
AOSP: Battery life is ok/average, get about 12~14 hours
2) Use Moonshine, probably the easiest method right now, given there are two different methods out right now.
3) Best AOSP, well just try them all to see which one you find best for you, I personally love CyanFox (but that's only because I build/maintain/contribute to it)
Just as a little thing to keep in mind GPE ROM is not the same kind of AOSP that are found in the Original Dev Section where CM is... From what I understand GPE is still sense based like its backbone. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
My personal suggestions: NOS ROM Sense 5, and CyanFox

To more or less echo the two gentlemen above me...
1. Battery is decent enough. I'm coming from the Thunderbolt so everything is an improvement!
2. Yes, Moonshine is the way to go.
3. Agree to just try all of them. They all have their own special sauce.
Have fun.

Looks as if OP has already purchased a DNA as he claimed it was shipping the next day after his post... Also xda has banned all trades/selling/buying on the forums and pm's however you can use swappa the new official marketplace to sell/buy/trade devices

go to rom

So I'm giving my note i717 to my niece who just destroyed her s2 skyrocket. I just picked up a note 3 on launch day. Since I have been out of the loop and already spent well over an hour browsing threads I figured I should ask for some help. What is everyone go to rom. would like to give her a 4.3 rom but not sure how development has gone lately. Just need stable and best battery life. my old favorites where carbon 4.2 and the only 4.3 was the 8-14 cm 10.2 or something like that. I really appreciate it and I know these questions are sometimes frowned upon. I also remember the stock att rom being complete garbage.I appreciate it so much!!:good:
by ROM I also mean a really good date. Not all bids are equal or w/e eg:cm10.2 8-14
I prefer stock based like Padawan and Blackjelly. But the most stable 4.3 for me is Slimbean. Its light weight and blacked out which means good battery life.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Yes I remember slim bean baing extremely ..... slim=) Thanks for your response.
I have had very good success with Hellybean also, but Profresh is probably right.
4.3 have come quite a ways in a short time and are much better and more reliable than 4.2. question though, and this leads to why Profresh has made a wise suggestion. is it your intention to sort of monitor the progress of the Note after you give it away?
even though 4.3 is very good, there is still work continuing in a feverish pace. updates galore. good for most folks like us. but is your neice going to come over every week or so, so you can update her phone?
Black Jelly and Padawan are both super solid. requiring little to no maintenance. perfect for the teenager on the go.
just something to think about
XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

[Q] About battery life

Hi guys.
I'm using SGS2.Could you tell me which Rom or Kernel offers best battery life for this device? I installed tons of rom and i not sure about which is the best.I only asking for 2.5 or 3 hours screen time i newer saw that time on this device.Anyway im waiting for the answer and your notion. And finaly my english is not well i hope i can tell my problem, good days
There's no such thing. The two biggest factors which determine battery life are phone setup & usage. If you're not on top of those two things, makes no difference what kernel or rom you run (rom has almost nothing to do with it).
The only way to get great battery life is to tweak, test & experiment. There are 'shortcuts'; there is a multitude of threads on here with suggestions you can try & see how they work for you.
But there's no magic way to achieve great battery life.
Mod Edit

What is the best custom rom for honor 5x ?

hello
i need rom haven't lagg and nice battery life
thanks
1. go to the ROMs section,
2. look at the threads, read commentary,
3. flash what looks like best idea, test it.
4. if ROM is good, stay on it; if not, go back to 1
5. stop creating unecessary topics.
6. Success.
No, really, asking questions like this is so frustrating. I moved from device which had like 3 AOSP ROMs, it was such a limited choice and people still asked which one is better instead of testng and finding what works best for them. Gorramnit. Don't be lazy, what's good for me or someone else maybe isn't good for you.

mate, you not help us ...
I need to know something about camera quality (HDR etc), no lag or battery life to and we need that informations if someone test custom roms.
We don't have time to waste to read each post and thinking about what is better in some rom than other roms...
If you can help us, help us ...
I would recommend RR OS

Now back to english: Noone can tell you what's good for you, except yourself. I like barebone, nearly AOSP stuff, with constant updates and improvement and official support, which means it's with zero hastle, so anything except Lineage is a no-go in my case. Somebody else likes themes, bells and whistles, so that person would recommend something different. That's why comment sections are there - you can see how ROM is performing, possible bugs, what to take care of, and, more important - ROM features. You don't have to read all, use search and/or check last 10 pages for bugs, and you're good to go. Or even search for this same theme, I think this is 3rd or 4th thread with same question.
Yes, not everyone have the same taste
Try cosmic ROM. Been using it as a daily driver since a month. Good battery life and smooth ROM. Camera isn't any different. Its same as any camera app found in other ROMs.
RR is the best
