Need tool to access my phone via PC
I have accidentally installed a theme that is probably of higher resolution than my phone screen. Now in locked mode the unlocking option/pattern/graphics is not visible as it is 'spilling out of screen'. Android debugging is on in my device (thankfully). Please suggest me a tool/method using which i can control the phone using PC(or atleast unlock the phone). I (obviously) cannot install anything on my phone, i found some such apps that need installation on phone.

during the repair there was following error:
new software found something like that..the process lasted for about 6 hrs
what to do?
Device Name XPERIA E dual 1605
firmware version 11.3.A.1.39
ROM: Stock ROM JB
Original Problem
device is on Rooted stock rom.
was trying to unlock bootloader..the process was successful and then I removed the usb and tried to switch on it only to realize that its in Bootloop
As stock ROM does not has recovery I dont know what to do now..Any idea?
Download "Sony Update Service" and restore your Sony Xperia E dual to original firmware again.
This will remove root access ( which you can apply again later).
For more detailed information you could ask for support in the Sony Xperia E forum as they'll have more information to provide than us in the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i forum

By all means, I'm dumb, so to get this clear, this means that, if he repairs his phone, the original firmware that came with the phone will be installed or it will just reinstall the newest update available?
Sorry... let's say I'm a bit frustrated with something dumb I did and I want to see if I can revert back XD...
THanks in advance guys
I'm quite sure that it installs the latest official Sony Ericsson firmware.
I've done it before, after softbricking my phone and it works perfectly. But after restoring you do need to unlock the bootloader again and root the phone before you can continue with installing a custom ROM.
With the flashtool provided, it is a piece of cake.
WARNING
USE INFORMATION AT YOU OWN RISK
There is no known perfect method to RELOCK the bootloader. So beware you will loose warranty of device. This warning is also shown while unlocking by LG.
This guide may have errors and may not work for some in various scenario. If you report them, I may try to correct them.

Just sharing information. See now how easy it is to flash+CWM+Root V20* on Unlocked Bootloader (UL BL)***
Thanks and Huge rounds of applause for Aremcee (aka RC or Ricardo Cerqueira).
This is completely based on Aremcee's Unlock and CWMRoot method as explained here. Please read is carefully before starting.
=============================================
Things to remember while proceeding.
Not for Newbies. (need some experience in flashing and installing fastboot drivers)
.
IMPORTANT: You must have P760/P765 with P760 V20B EUROPE OPEN rom flashed on it....or OTHER UNLOCKABLE ROMS. @Gh0sT.RPG tried unlocking on P765 V20B, V20C & V20D all unsuccessful. But He unlocked on P65 V20A Indian in just 20min.
.
You must have P768 with P768 JB (e.g.Mexico) Not tested but should work as per JB feature added in other variants. If this method does not work for P768 then try this method.
Phone might be already Bootloader Unlocked or you may Unlock it while in following process.
P769x owners please visit this thread for unlocking bootloader.
Unlock Bootloader and Easy Rooting of L9 P760/765/P768
0) Preparations:-
Install latest LG Driver.
Download fastbootdrivers.zip (old) OR New Fastbood Drivers and find installation instructions in this thread OR this new thread (Tip for Win98)
Download Android.zip and extracted anywhere on computer, preferably C drive. The folder "C:\Android" will be created with all necessary files.
Download recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p760.img and save in "C:\Android" folder
Download UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip and save on external sdcard.
See post number 10 below for some information on fastboot drivers.
1) Connect phone to pc and change USB Mode to "LG Software Mode". Now wait for 30 minutes if you want to unlock bootloader (IMPORTANT Read post) and then open command prompt and give following commands in "lower case" because adb command is case sensitive.
C:\>cd \android
C:\Android>adb devices
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This should show the list of attached devices in ADB mode like shown below
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now pass this command and phone will restart in fastboot mode like this... in "lower case" because fastboot command is case sensitive.
C:Android\>adb reboot oem-unlock
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Phone will start in fastboot mode. You may be asked to install fastboot drivers at this point. See driver download from this this NEW download thread and install with instructions from this OLD install method or this New install Method.
2 A) AT THIS POINT, YOU CAN UNLOCK BOOTLOADER IF STILL LOCKED: You get option to press VOLUME UP key to unlock the bootloader permanently. If already unlocked, skip to next step.
2 B) When your phone comes in fastboot mode, then PC will install fastboot drivers, if not installed before. If automatic installation fails, you can manually install fastboot drivers as instructed in this post or this post. Strangely my device manager shows only one entry like this screenshot. (click for screenshot). If fastboot drivers are not installed this rooting will not work.
3) Now staying in Fastboot mode, install Recovery Software (CWM Touch) like shown below. All in "lower case", because fastboot command is case sensitive and will fail if you type carelessly.
C:\Android>fastboot devices
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This will show if phone is connected to your pc in fastboot mode or not by showing device entry result like "1234567 fastboot". Then give next command.
C:\Android>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p760.img
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This will install Recovery Software (CWM) in your phone. When finished you can disconnect phone from pc (remove usb cable).
To switch off phone, PRESS POWER FOR 15 SECONDS or REMOVE BATTERY and INSERT AGAIN.
4) Reboot phone in Recovery (CWM) Mode (with Vol+ and Home and Power button, all together for 5 secs) and flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip which was already copied before on sdcard. Reboot normally and enjoy.
Your are done.
For me everything went smooth in single attempt like a charm.
PS: The Rom I flashed before did perfectly worked well with all features and options Super Smooth as usual.

Not much. Everything seem same as V20B. Could be some minor unknown changes/bugfixes in the deep inside rom, which we may not want to know. But ROM is solid good and function well.
Actually at the moment, there is no solid reason with me for, why one should update to V20C? I am still exploring and trying to know whats difference lol

I wanted to but I have pathetic upload speed right now and it will take around 8/9 hours to upload 550+ mb CWM Backup. Practical not possible for me
Please wait for someone with FASTER upload speed.

thanks ..but i flashed it succesfully ..another thing i cant see my pics or videos in the player ..what happened and i even did a factory reset ..
Couldn`t it improve battery life? For me on stock v20b with root is impossible stand more than 17 hours. Another thing whats bother me is wake up time from sleeping. When i press home or wake up button, it takes about 2 or 3 seconds to switch on display!!! And i didn´t change any frequencies or governor. I didn´t notice that problem on v10h ICS...

Now its almost two days and approximately I got 1 and half day in single charge with moderate use. For me V20C is really better than V20B. Of course i use music and video very very less and mostly its for call and emails on 3G data.
Camera clarity is same (poor) as V20B but flash brightness is better than it.
So far, I have found out, that there is different layout when you are answering call and maybe background in SMS app... In question of battery life, its too early to say.

Asus? From where did you get that? Strange.
I am not sure right now, but these drivers problems are not occurring to me after I have installed Android SDK Tools (long time back) and installed original Google USB driver from Google Android Developers. See what items are installed in following image. And I think the platform tools and Google USB Drivers include FASTBOOT drivers too. Worked always for me.

There is no hindi OS support even in Indian version of ROMs. You cannot select interface language in hindi.
But you can read hindi/gujrathi/etc in apps like facebook in European roms too. All fonts are built in roms folder.

*** THIS IS NOT GUIDE, Just sharing. Just telling all noob-pals, that how easy it is to flash+CWM+Root V20D on Unlocked Bootloader (UL BL)***

Yes, only two files attached here are enough. Remember this procedure is only for unlocked bootloader, which does not need lelus method to be performed.
PS: You will need flashing tool for flashing rom and fastboot files, available in other threads. You can get fastboot files in Android SDK Tool package.
Hi there, im having trouble getting into fastboot mode on my phone? I have already unlocked my bootloader, I have a P768 on ICS V10E and I unlocked the bootloader using P760 V20C. How do I switch to fastboot?
THIS WILL ONLY WORK WITH DEVICES USING EMMC PARTITION LAYOUT!
otherwise flashtool cannot properly readback needed files wich will cause a bricked device. for rooting mt6573 or mt6575 without emmc partition layout,
refere to this method by rua1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38337401&postcount=5
You need to upload the needed files to your Computer using the Read Page Only feature.
ALSO, MAKE SURE YOUR DON'T TRY THAT ON AN ALCATEL (OR SIMILAR) DEVICE, INDICATOR HERE IS A CUSTPACK PARTITION IN SCATTERFILE.
those devices have mt65xx, but have a totally different partition strukture. You can try this tutorial, BUT IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE; I CANNOT HELP YOU OUT!!!
since a lot of devices have different hardware - e.g. Display or Camera - making a Backup of your device should have highest priority. Flashing a wrong ROM can brick your phone!!
What is needed:
VCOM Driver, thx to n2k1
ADB, thx to n2k1
MTK Droid Tools V2.46
If you wan't to use the newest Versionof MTK Droid Tools, refere to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38337401#post38337401
also, you can buy Master Shifu rua1 a coffee for his great tool!
Support for the newest Version of Droid Tools is NOT given in this thread! I personally don't use his tool so if something unexpected happens, its not my fault.
SP Flashtool V3.1224 for mt6589, newer flashtool is needed!!! if there are some problems with reading back or flashing the device, newer flashtool is needed.
Install the needed drivers. installing VCOM drivers might take a while, because it will show up just a few seconds while connecting the phone(off).
and now the Step-by-Step tutorial to backup your boot.img, recovery.img and system.img for rooting.
1. enable USB-debugging under Settings-Development->USB debugging
2. phone should now get recognized as "Android Phone - Android Composite ADB Interface" -> if this is a Unknown Device, you should install the ADB drivers.
3.Open MTK Droid Tools
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Connect device to USB (USB Debugging has to be enabled)
5. Device informations has been loaded, Press on "Blocks Map"
We'll need to find the lines bootimg, recovery and Android. We'll need to write down Start-adress(Scatter) and the Size for every line.
(i made a screenshot, writing down isn't necessary.)
In MY Case, this is:
bootimg: 00F88000 size: 00600000
recovery: 01588000 size: 00600000
Android: 026E8000 size: 31900000
6. Now we'll need to click on "Create Scatter File" and you can save it as "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt"
7. You can Close MTK Droid Tools now.
8. Now we need to open SP Flash Tool and we need to load the scatter file.
9. Now we'll need to click on "Read Back" in the top of SP Flash Tool.
Click on "ADD" 3 Times, we will create "ROM_0", "ROM_1" and "ROM_2".
10. Doubleclick on "ROM_0", and select a place to save it, e.g. C:/N9770_backup/ and rename it to"boot.img"
11. now it will ask you for the Start Adress and lengh for bootimg, we wrote down earlier.
this is in my case: Start Address: 0x00F88000; Lenght: 0x00600000. the first "0x" MUST remain at its place!
12. the same thing you'll need to do for "recovery" and "android".
13. disconnect, shut down and remove the battery of your Device.
13. Now we'll need to click on "Read Back", insert your battery and connect your device to USB. (VCOM driver is needed now, you'll need to install it before getting to the next steps)
14. if this were correct, a red bar should appear on the bottom of SP Flash Tool. you'll need to wait until the green ring appears.
15.Flash Tool now read back the 3 files. system.img isn't that important, but boot.img and recovery.img should be around 6 MB. if the file is smaller or bigger, the length is different to my device or there was a failure while reading back your firmware. So make sure, that at least recovery or boot.img has the right size!!
16. Back to droid tools. reconnect your device to USB , debugging should be enabled, too. switch to "root, backup, recovery" tab in MTK Droid Tools.
select "to choose the boot.img" and press on "Recovery and boot". select your backup boot.img and recovery,img. MTK droid tools will patch boot.img, so you obtain permanent shellroot.
(optional) a window will pop-up and ask you, if you want to install CWM-r. i cannot tell you if that will work, but you can try it, since you backed up your recovery before. )
(optional) a window will pop-up and ask you for the name of your device(you connected it before starting droidtools, so this should not ask you for the name). you can just press enter or you can enter a name for your device.
17. Droid Tools should have modified the boot.img. "--a task is complete--" text should show up in the right of droidtools.
18. Back to Flashtool
You'll need to load the Scatter (like in Step 8)
select boot.img and recovery.img. make sure you select the modified files. (.../Droidtools/recovery/boot.img and recovery.img)
only boot and recovery should be selected!!
19.disconnect, shout down and remove the battery of your device. press on "Download", a window will show up that you have not selected all images. you can press on "OK".
20. insert the battery and connect your device to USB. Flash process should start and if it worked, green ring will appear.
21. Back to DroidTools. device needs to be connected and debugging enabled. switch to "root, backup, recovery" again and press on "SuperUser". this will push superuser, SU binary and busybox to your device.
22. Your Device is rooted now. you can make a Full backup with Droid Tools now.

is there anyone here who tried to follow this thread and successfully rooted his android phone?lenovo s720 user here.waiting for more positive feedbacks.
Will this method work on a Vodafone Smart III (975N) probably with 6575?
Guys, this will work on every mt65xx device, if you installed all drivers sucessfully .this whole thing basically changes a value in Boot.IMG To obtain permanent root in the shell. This is the same on EVERY mt65xx based smartphone. Basically you are rooted now. Just needs To push busybox, su and superuser To your device. Thos whole thing seems complex, but you make a backup oft your modified files before modifiing. I never Had device this tutorial was not working every mt6575, 6577 and 6589 should work without an problem. Mt6573 can be a Problem because oft their YAFFS partition strukture.

Edit:
Now i tried to root the phone. Everything is went fine till phase nr.19. At this point when the flashtool tried to write back the modified boot.img and recovery.img it gave back me the attached error window.
What should be the problem? I went through the steps with doublecheck and everything was fine till that point. I tried this step two or three times more, but every time gave me this error message.
What should I do now? If it helps I can upload the log folder content here.
Make sure the scatterfile is correct and the files should not be bigger than 6 MB. Flash tool tells you that you need to flash a full image cause the scatter is different from you phone.

Thanks!
This will be very helpful. I have a china phone running on MT6577. I've successfully installed a ported V970 ROM to ZA-985 (which is compatible to my unit in terms of hardware and appearance). I wanna try porting a JB V970 Lewa OS ROM to Kata i1 (identical to ZA-985).

thx for your reply, i updated Post #1 , that for mt6589 newer flashtool is required nad sumtimes youll need to play with them. this is because the widely spread devices, they are not the same and sometimes big differences in partitionlayout, SoC revision and so on.
@verntechguy: after rooting, make sure you get a full backup of your device using mtk droid tools. porting lewa is not that hard, but you maybe need to try different platforms to port from. you can refere to here, master shifu yuweng made a pretty good tutorial abut porting Roms.
@Beirajunior: is your device recognized as "mt65xx preloader" when connection to USB? (phone should be off) if not, you can try pressing VOL Up or down while connecting to USB. for flashing, VCOM port 1-16 should be assigned to the drivers.

Can you help me by team viewer ? :x i still cant do the flash..and the phone is reconized as "mt65xx preloader" but after a while he disconect.

I appreciate any help.

no, i cannot help you via teamviewer, my internet connection is too slow, cause i`m on tethering. some additional infos will be helpfull. device? mt6573,75,77,89?
if the device gets found, everything should work. you`ll need to assing the VCOM ports. just look in the driver settings or google it. i`m sure there is some kind of tutorial for it. also, trying another PC or OS will help, too. alot of guys have problems with that, just switching to XP or so will mostly help without tweaking the drivers.
device should be disconnected and battery should not be inserted. now press readback in flashtool, insert battery and connect the device to USB. now phone should be found by flashtool. if not, like i said, check VCOM ports.

This tutorial is for the LG L5 II (E455/E460) and shall work on other LG phones too.
Many thanks to @iulykenoby who discovered this method.
To start, download a KDZ firmware for your LG E460 (and other phones) from here: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php
Be sure to match the phone with the right kdz!!!
1. Download LG_KDZ_FW-Update_OfflineFix.ZIP (attached)
2. Download USB Driver http://algmcdn.lgmobile.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00120120425
If you can't boot anymore, enter into download/emergency mode and skip to step 5.
3. Put your phone in debugging mode (menu-Settings-Developer options-USB debugging).
4. Change your usb connection type to LG Software (menu-Settings-USB connection type)
5. Connect your phone to the PC and install USB Driver. After the installation disconnect and connect your phone again (to make sure it is detected).
6. Extract LG_KDZ_FW-Update_OfflineFix.ZIP
7. Run B2CAppSetup.exe and let it install and update itself. You may be prompted to update your drivers.
8. If you've done everything correctly, you should see this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
9. Close the official LG Mobile Support Tool.
10. Open Notepad in Administrator mode. (Go to windows menu, type notepad and right-click and run in Administrator mode)
11. Open the hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc)
12. Add 127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com at the end of the host file.
13. Save the file. If the "Save as" dialog opens, it means you're not running notepad in administrator mode and you can't modify the hosts file.
14. Go to windows menu, type cmd and right-click and run in Administrator mode.
15. Drag Automatic Offline Procedure.vbs over command prompt and hit enter.
16. Click OK
17. Click on windows enable icon in system tray to turn ON then click the dialog box OK.
18. Click Ok.
19. Make sure Type is set to 3GQCT and phone mode to DIAG. Select your KDZ file and click Normal web upgrade test.
20. Click on Upgrade Start.
21. Click on Clear phone Software update Registry and then click OK.
22. Software Update Procedure will start immediately. It will take some time to finish.
After the flashing procedure, don't forget to delete that line you added in hosts or else you won't be able to officialy update (online) your phone and you won't be able to download anything from lg. Also, a factory reset may be needed after flashing to avoid conflicts with the old app data.
Ohhhhhh thx mircea, work for me. The problem was on step 19, now it's all ok.

Try booting again in upload mode. If I remember right it's: phone off and both volume keys pressed then introduce the usb cable. if you manage to boot in download mode, you can try to flash again. you surely didn't select the right kdz for your phone. be sure of your phone model and search for the right kdz for your phone. If you can boot in download mode nothing is lost, you can fix it.

For root, the attached file should work (change it's extension from .zip to .exe). Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2337802
it will root with a chineese tool, but there you'll also find instructions to change it to supersu/superuser.

you can flash any firmware from any country as long as it is for your phone model. i recommend you flash a firmware that's not branded (for ex branded by orange) so you won't have extra software that will slow down your phone. on that website you will find firmwares for many phones. our phone (e460) received an update, that's why they are called "a" "b" "c".

I suggest that you run that VROOT program in a sandbox as it is full of Malware or wait till someone posts an open source root exploitation method.

I suggest you change your antivrus. On virustotal.com out of 43 antivirus apps only 1 found it as malware.

Mircea,
I dont use or trust online scanners I prefer to use IDA and other tools to examine software. If you examine the software more closely you will find that it sends your PC information back to the author. It will also do an update check and install of the latest version automatically. It will also install an apk for a chinese file sharing site and multiple other files that he leaves in the phones system. I also rooted a test phone and it did root perfectly. I was not trying to scare people just give a little warning to be cautious when you install a program that has a primary interface language is not yours. I had no ill intentions just trying to make people aware of what I had found.

Yes, it installs a chineese apk because that's the root application (just like superuser). After installing supersu and deleting the chineese apk I scanned my phone with bitdefender and avg and found no malware.
You also can disable your internet before installing vroot on your computer, root your phone then uninstall it. Then you can scan your computer with any antivrus and antispyware software you want and you won't find a trace of Vroot. Before saying it's full of malware, you should prove it. I just proved with 43 antiviruses that it has no malware and all you're saying is you don't trust them. I also offered a solution to avoid sending information about your computer, IF that was the case. Also, using a sandbox just like you said is also ok.

Easiest [GUIDE] for Newbies to
ROOT Dell Venue 8 Tablet 3840 and 7840
with Android 4.4.4
TETHERED CWM METHOD ** Disclaimer: This is not my work. I have just consolidated all information and files together into one simple STEP BY STEP GUIDE.
** Do at your own Risk. I am not responsible if you mess up your tablet. The method works perfectly on my 3840 and a fb friend 7840 without any issues and should work for everyone.
** This may work for some other Intel Chipset devices/tablets too. Inform me if it works for your model
** ALL THE CREDIT GOES TO AMAZING DEVELOPER @social-design-concepts Thanks pal

Visit and read this thread by @social-design-concepts Please read carefully once before proceeding. You dont need to download anything from this thread. Download everything from this thread only.
WHAT IS TETHERED CWM?
Remember this is called "TETHERED CWM" method. Tethered means wired. Everytime when you want to use Recovery Mode, you need to use this tool by connecting tablet to pc, which copies recovery files "temporarily" in Tablet Memory and then you can use this temporary Custom CWM Recovery to do the Recovery tasks. When you reboot phone back to normal the CWM is removed from memory and you are back on that useless stock recovery. YES, its temporary and everytime you want to use Custom CWM, you need to use this tool. Quiet Annoying but hey, some things in life are bit difficult and you have to stay with it.
Preparations
==========
1) You must take full backup of your data in phone in sdcard or internal memory. No cry and complain later if you lose data.
2) Run Software Update (twice or more times) so you will be on latest Android 4.4.4 and there will be no update shown after that. I did exactly same.
3) Your PC must be installed with ADB and Fastboot Drivers already. You can Download Driver HERE or HERE or find it on Dell / Intel Driver Website.
* Drivers can be easily installed and tool can work on any Windows Version. I did this on Windows 8.1 64 Bit Version without any issues. PIECE OF CAKE. If you have any problem installing then check FAQ section below.
You must connect Phone to PC to test, so windows will finish installing drivers after detection of phone. (recommended)
4) Now on Tablet Open >>> Settings >>> About Tablet >>> Press "Build Number" several times to enable "Developers Options" in Settings. Now go back and again Open >>> Settings >>> Developers Options >>> Enable "Debugging Mode"
5) Download THIS TETHERED CWM/TWRP FLASHING TOOL and copy and extract on any disk in your PC, but not on DESKTOP or C drive. I mean copy and extract anywhere on D or E or F drive onwards but not on C drive, to avoid permission issues of Windows 8.1
6) Download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip (3.83 MB) and copy, as it is, on EXTERNAL SDCARD (recommended) or Internal Memory (not recommended). This exact file works for me and everyone. *Do not change it with other versions.
Now you are totally ready to ROOT.
LETS START.....
STEPS OF ROOTING
===================
Step1) Switch on Table/Phone Normally and connect to PC with USB cable. If it is first time, then PC will install ADB Drivers automatically.
Step2) Open folder on your PC where you extracted files of ROOTing Tool. Select "launcher.bat" and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. It will open Command Prompt Box with a Tool Menu as shown below.
Step3) The tool menu will ask you to ACCEPT the terms, where you need to type "ACCEPT" in capital letters and press enter key to proceed
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step4) After ACCEPTing terms, on next menu, type "5" to select "CWM" as Recovery to load.
*Do not select TWRP right now as there could be some confusion later in this guide.
Step5) Now check that the tool running on command prompt box on PC is reporting as either :
DEVICE STATUS: ADB-ONLINE
DEVICE STATUS: FASTBOOT-ONLINE
*If device status is "Unknown" You may need to carefully start again from beginning.
Now tool will be showing you three TRIGGER options to root. You need to type "T3" and start third trigger.
Tablet will immediately boot into "FASTBOOT" mode (DroidBoot mode). If it is first time, then PC will install Fastboot drivers to recognize device and in FASTBOOT mode, tool will copy TETHERED CWM on tablet and will show lots of text flowing on tablet screen and on PC too.
*Ignore error on last line in above image, its normal.
When done, phone will show you Fastboot menu. Now remove cable from tablet.
Step6) On Fastboot Menu, you need to press volume up or down to select "RECOVERY" option and press <Power> key to start phone in NEW CWM RECOVERY MODE. This time you will see completely different CWM "Vampirefo Venue8 Ver 6.0.3.7" with grey color background and with more working features of CWM.
Step7) Now select "Install Zip from SDCard" and select and flash "UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip" file.
YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR TABLET DELL VENUE 8 LTE 3840 MERRIFIELD (India Version) or 7840.
Good Luck guys
Frequently Asked Questions
=================================
1) How to install Fastboot/Bootloader/ADB/Android USB drivers,etc in Windows 8/8.1/10?
Answer: Most Important Info: Many pals here get stuck while installing drivers in Win8+(32/64bit), especially FASTBOOT and BOOTLOADER MODE drivers. These drivers are not Digitally signed, hence Windows8/8.1 does not allow them to install as its standard feature. May be they did it for extended security of windows. So NO PROBLEMO!!! In such case, you can DISABLE DRIVER SIGNATURE ENFORCEMENT feature in simple steps as shown in this video. After these steps when PC starts you will find no difference but then drivers will start installing "obediently" like they did install in XP

I just wanted to say a quick thanks for posting this! I tried to root my Dell Venue 8 3840 once before but was unsuccessful. I followed your instructions, and though the steps at the end were just a little different for mine, it worked! I noticed you also mentioned your 3840 was for India, and I wanted to mention that I'm in the United States and it still worked, and I verified root access with Root Checker Basic. That way other people know it should work for their device.
Thanks again! :good:

Sorry for late reply, but thanks for confirming that it worked for US version too. Actually I did not wanted people to blame me for any unexpected issues, therefore I mentioned its tested on Indian Version perfectly. Others can still try it because technically there is no risk at all, even if rooting fails. In fact, I succeeded after many failures with this tool itself.
Thanks for your instruction, but at step 5, the status is "unknow", should I do next step? my device is LTE version. Thanks!!

No idea! But Dell makes unbrickable devices. You can restore to stock rom again so no harm in trying. I am taking risks since last 7/8 years and not a single phone is hard-bricked . Always recovered.
But Do at your own risk because everyone's fighting spirit and knowledge is different
It works on Win 7, have the problem whit win 10..WTF you are not reply my question , though thanks for your post!!
I pair flashing of the SuperSU file with a flashable BusyBox maintained in the Android dev thread. Check it out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3219431
It eliminates the need to download BusyBox Installer (unless you're looking for a particular flavor)
Thanks for the instructions! I had to do the instructions twice. First so the tablet could get to the droidboot screen so I could install the google inc adb interface drivers. On the second go everything worked as it should. Thanks again!

Yup, it will ask you after downloading the program if you would like to install fastboot, then ask you if you want to install adb drivers. Then I did all the steps in this thread twice. Once to get the tablet to boot in droidboot to install adb drivers and then again for it to run fastboot. I also had to update my tablet drivers and select the adb drivers. I'm sure the steps I took was a lot more work then most maybe. Not sure if what I did will work for you since mine is not a 3840 lte. But would be happy to post the steps I took.
