2GB partition claims low on space, but not. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I gave my wife my i777 a few weeks ago after getting my new phone. I wiped it and put Cyanogen 10.1.3 Final on it for her to use.
She is having an odd issue. The 2GB partition reports "Storage space is running out". It claims only 19.62MB available, but only 590MB in use by apps, and 1.49MB by cached data. The graph for this partition shows slightly less than a third of the space being used, and the rest available. That would seem to agree with the amount being reported in use, but blatantly contradicts the amount being reported free.
Does anyone know what would cause this discrepancy of nearly 1.4GB?

When wiping the cache and davlik cache had no effect, I wiped the phone, reinstalled CM, and restored a Titanium backup. It is showing the correct amount of free space now. I'd still be interested to know what might have led to that situation, if anyone has an idea.

I'd guess a bad flash.

I am having this exact problem on the latest Omni 4.4.2 nightly rom. Can I reformat just the internal storage so re-flash isn't necessary? Everything else about the ROM is running just fine.

LagFix, Forever Gone, etc..

Has anyone tried either of these on our phone? I somewhat understand how fstrim works, but a bit confused on whether Forever Gone does the same thing (people claim to get the same results). I tried Forever Gone first and feel like my device has been zippier since, but I'm not sure, could be placebo. I ran LagFix the day after, so can't say either way.

I thought I'd post this for discussion, experiences, etc.
Right now I'm running seeder and lagfix, using both together with 1.72 overclock my device has never been smoother (battery life is better since i'm underclocked as well). Both might be overkill especially since our newer version of android should be cleared of the problems. But it seems to make an impact on my device. As for forever gone, it seems like all it does it clean up your sd card (internal and external? not sure if it does both, will try later) but that probably wouldn't affect the actual speed of the device unless you accessing videos, pictures, cached files from the sd (game files i.e.). Lagfix seems to be specifically for the phone main used partitions (system, data, etc.)
But I'm always willing to try out new things =D
Thanks for the post.

[Q] Space issue

I keep running out of space on my 2 gig partition every few days and I keep resetting to the factory settings on the phone. I have most of my applications off that 2 gig partition. What is weird is that when it shows the breakdown of storage usage, the total is never close to 1.9 gig. Right now, it has apps at 200meg and cached data of 15 mb. Yet available is only at 88 MB. Its really really odd and I am not sure what is causing this.
I do have Andriod 4.2.2 and am using CM 10.1
Does anyone have any potential solutions for this?

Wrong section... Should be in Q&A.. I have recollection of viber causing some issues with some roms. Could it be that? Check your rom thread for solutions also.

[Q] No space in app storage, no idea why

My phone has been a bit flaky lately. Recently upgraded to CM 10.2, Because I lost everything before, I really don't have many apps installed, but my phone now constantly says I'm out of space. When I use DiskUsage to look at it, it shows 572 Mb in applications 1344 in System data (leaving me with barely anything). I've moved most of the apps that I can over, so I'm wondering what other troubleshooting options I have to figure out what is using my space. I'm planning on upgrading to another phone before long but was hoping to make this one last another month or two. Just odd since prior to this I had it loaded up with apps and never ran into this. is CM10.2 that much bigger than 9 and that is causing my problem?
So in case anyone was interested. I found out my problem (found out others having issues on a CM forum). My \data\log directory had several hundred megs of logs in it. Once cleared, I had nearly 500 megs free. Just something to keep an eye out for. I know it won't permanently fix whatever the issue is, but at least my phone is up and working again.

Browsers slowing down

Whenever I flash a new rom (I also had this problem on stock), the browser would work fast, stable, and generally without any problems. Then, after some time, it would slow down. Freezing, especially when starting the browser app. Then I would download Chrome and it would work great, for a about 2 weeks. A month ago, I downloaded Firefox, and it lasted the longest amount of time before slowing down and freezing while using.
No matter which browser I try, it slows down after some time for seemingly no appearant reason. And I'm rarely using browsers since I spend most of my time on Reddit, and as far as I know, i only have 2 or 3 login credentials remembered. Even after I clear cache and maybe data, it's still not as fast and comfortable to use as it should be.
I'd really appreciate some help regarding this. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I had similar issue in the past and that was related to the way I was flashing roms.
Now a days, even if a developer says "it's not needed", I perform a clean factory reset (formatting system, cache, dalvik and data partitions).
After that I install a new rom and works always good for a couple of months (not weeks but months).
After 5-6 months it starts to slow dows, but by then there is a new rom I want to flash.
What also makes a difference is if you run applications on the primary partition of your phone and not from the SD card.
When I flash a new rom, I do a full wipe, and even wipe the \system partition. So I doubt that wrong flashing method is to blame. Also, with memory as large as GS2's, I don't have, nor have ever had, any apps on the sd card. In over 2 years, I never came close to filling the ~2GB partition reserved for apps...

[Q] SIII stutters & freezes randomly even after fully fresh wipe & install

Hey guys,
Currently I am using CM11 M9 snapshot, boeffla kernel, no OC/UV. But the problem occured even back on CM 10.2 Jelly Bean.
The phone randomly freezes when there is a lot going on (updates for example), also it becomes laggy after a while and needs a few minutes of quiet time. Even after a full wipe and only ROM install (no apps, no custom kernel) I sometimes ran into it freezing for a few seconds like it's working hard and then coming back. It seems to register touch commands and executes them "when it's back".
By now I have over 120 apps installed that I use from time to time. I thought having a big amount of apps does not matter since they're not running at the same time and even then the android memory management does a good job?
I am really confused, maybe I have broken hardware? Is there any way to test my hardware stability/quality? Could the CPU have degraded? Or the internal storage? What else can I do to my phone to "clean it up"? I thought a factory reset or FULL WIPE, clean install and trimming the storage is all I can do? I uninstalled the facebook app which seemed to help a little bit but I am still confused.
Would this help at all I wonder, but it's only for jelly bean.
I know there are multiple threads out on this but they all recommend "factory reset & clean install" which is what I did...
I really hope I did not make thread x-thousand on this case but I did not find anything related to "phone slow after factory reset".
Thanks in advance guys.:highfive:

Propably thats M9 problem. Seems like every snapshot is getting worst and worst.
I added some information to the first post.
The problem occured even back on CM 10.2. It just started getting worse and worse over time. It was the reason I wiped and flashed CM11 M9. I do not feel a difference between the two.
But seriously, that freaking facebook app gone helps a lot.
Still, is there any way to test my hardware stability/quality? Could the CPU have degraded? Or the internal storage?
i dont really know

I dont think your hardware is degrading, try to to do a comlete wipe even the internal storage...anyway i didnt notice a big difference too. My s3 was slowed down since M8 and now M9 with this problems. Just switched to those s5 roms

Internal storage wipe -> format SD card?
Hmm, switching from CFQ from ROW scheduler really bumped up the performance.
I start to suspect that that dredded facebook app and the CFQ scheduler screwed my device. I will test some big apps/games now.
EDIT: Aaaand it's running pretty good. Mhh, I will continue monitoring.
Good
