Little help... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

So, after having my gnex, and being ruined by the automated flashing utility, I tried to root my note 2 Verizon. So, I first went and flashed to the stock 4.1.2 and then tried to put cwm on it via odin. Wont do it. Tried copying the files to the sd card and doing it locally, no go. So, I tried the automated one. Well, that seems to have put my phone into a constant loop where only Odin mode works. So, I started to flash the stock rom again via odin, and I get to the end of the flash, and it fails right at the end. I cant tell whats wrong. The phone gets all the way over too. It just fails. Ideas?
Also, side note, I also forgot to uncheck the repartition button in Odin when I did the last step. I did have the PIT file in there though for the mapping.

note 2 trouble
I used an online place to fix my note 2. Kind of a bummer but I had to ask for help. I used mobiletechvideos.com. give them a look online and a call and maybe they can help.

Problem rooting again....

I recently recovered my phone through ODIN and then upgraded to JI6 through Kies.....I wanted to re-root the phone and get it back to where it was before, but I'm having problems. I loaded the root file and put the update.zip in the root (not the avatar folder) and tried to update packages through recovery. I get an error message that says e:can't open /sdcard/update.zip no such file or directory. I checked the file type in both drives (avatar is on e: and everything else on g, the avatar folder shows a FAT file type, but the g: drive shows an unknown file type. I had received information to try a different update.zip file, but it won't change the error message I get when select update packages in recovery. What can I do? I've searched a lot of posts (and I risk a flaming on this one, I know), but I can't seem to find one that seems to follow my trail of getting to where I am at today. One last thing, when I was recovering through ODIN, i did not select repartition because i could not get the 512 pit file to populate in ODIN. Thanks to anybody who can help me (again).....

ok....
are you SURE you are putting update.zip on the right sd card....it goes on the INTERNAL CARD ( the 16gb one )...
I'm pretty sure I am, this is the one where all of the apps and apk were stored previously?
ok then start over...
odin back to stock and re-root
ok, ODIN back to stock. No change for the update.zip. This time when I flashed I added the pit file, and also checked repartition. No change in anything regarding the message or anything from before. I have tried tyhe update before and after I went from JFD to JI6. I really have no basis to speak from, but it seems that the path from my e drive (avatar) to g drive (everything else), is where the problem is, or else I got a bad flash. They all look the same though. I assume I would need root to get anywhere other than JI6 anyway. Thanks again for your help with this. I do appreciate it.....

1. when you Odin you are supposed to load both pit and tar files and not check repartition...
2.read that...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
3. are you trying to go to a stock JI6 ROM?? If so...why??
My suggestion:
Click on the Noob Guide (signature)
Download files
Load ODIN
Get phone in download mode
follow my instructions in the guide
You will then have a stock froyo leak + root
at that point I would backup, then flash something, maybe NeroV3 and then enable voodoo (if you like).
I don't see how the alt method could lead you wrong.
I apologize, I sincerely didn't notice anything that mentioned not to partition. Going forward, if I reflash through odin with the right pit and tar files WITHOUT checking partition, do you think I should be ok? As a note (if it even matters), all of my files and things were still in the internal sd card, although the new market is there from my old 2.1 rom. Not sure if it matters, just more information.

just follow s15274n's guide...he wrote a nice guide for noobs (no offense)...it'll walk u through going back to stock and you'll be ok...
Excellent information, but one question since I'm still learning. Not in the way I had hoped, but trial-by-fire.....If I download the leaked froyo with root, don't I need root access first. Also if I can flash this through ODIN, where does the update file go in the ODIN screen, do I need the 512 pit file, what about the pda, phone csc windows, what do i poopulate in those options, if any. I do bow to your experience and knowledge. I promise once I get back to where I was before I may never do this again! All this from trying to flash a new kernal that was supposed to be compatible with all bionix platforms (I was running 1.9 w/jac's ocuv). Thanks again....

ok in Odin....as long as the phone is in Download mode...Odin has root access to the phone(technically) so just make sure you're in download mode...
Odin needs 2 files to flash a VIBRANT to stock...the pit and tar files...load the pit file in the PIT field and the tar goes in the PDA field..( i know its tricky) dont mess with any other settings...click start and WAIT
Odin is a flasher's best friend....learn to use it and you'll love it
In process now. I do like ODIN although yesterday afternoon, I would have rather taken a sharp instrument to the neck rather than use it. I preferred to use ROM manager or other methods. I know it means nothing to you guys that have experience, but this is a learning experience and one I am grateful for with all of the experience on these forums. I know you devs don't like these dumb questions, but sometimes kids just want to be professional football players but end up working in a supermarket instead....get back to you soon.
it said updating firmware then it's sitting on cache.rfs for about 5 minutes. no green loading symbol like when I flashed before. Not sure if I should unplug and retry....
waited about 20 minutes with it stuck at the cache.rfs line. Unplugged and retried. Same thing. I need to get a working phone at least for tonight. I tried one more time, but check repartition and it started loading completely. Maybe there's something wrong with one of the files? Not sure. Will update when I get home to my laptop.....
Use this version of ODIN (older versions are known to hang)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8863820&postcount=138
The files you need to get the leaked froyo + root: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD
(IGNORE THE OLD OLDN VERSION IN THIS .ZIP - USE THE ONE I POSTED ABOVE)
1 - download the files to your pc
2 - open ODIN on your pc
3 - connect USB to pc (not to the phone)
4 - power off phone
5 - go into download mode (hold both volume keys... then insert usb to the phone)
6 - ODIN should be connected, and you should be in download mode
7 - load pit file
8 - load tar file
9 - click start
10 - it will run it's course, once done the phone will reboot
11 - once rebooted, go to stock recovery and wipe data/cache (I made this bold below for emphasis since not in the video)
I gotta hand it you guys, you really bailed me out and for that I am eternally grateful. I will have to scrape the funds together for whomever needs a donation, but it is well worth it. I have one last remaining question. Now that I have Eugene's Rom, am I safe to flash another ROM by update.zip, or is ODIN the only reliable way for me to get one on the phone. I like the phone better now, but it seems like it is an out of the box ROM, which is fine. I didn't mind bionix 1.9 on 2.1 either. I just made a big mistake. Anyways, thanks again, and whomever can answer my last question I will extend my thanks in advance!!
Download rom manager
Flash cwr
Make backup in cwr
D nownload nero v3
Flash it in cwr
Enable voodoo if you desires
Enjoy your much improved phone that has a stable backup for an emergency.
I you need detailedsteps for this, read my sticky threads.
I dowloaded ROM manager last night and flashed recovery. I went to recovery and applied packages. I'm still getting this error that says the update.zip file is invalid through my e: drive (avatar folder). I just looked on both e and f. I can't seem to find any update.zip file on either card and I can't seem to flash any other ROM or even enter CW recovery. I looked at another post from someone and noticed that I never pulled my external sd card when I used ODIN to go back to stock or flash Eugene's ROM that I was suggested to use. Any formats I could try or tricks to suggest. I've looked around, but I'm not sure if this is a partition issue, an sd card (internal or external), or otherwise. Thanks again....
i noticed that there were a lot of additional file in places i didn't notice originally. I found in the CW file a recover-update and I thought that might be confusing things, I put it in a seperate folder and retried cw recovery, but that didn't work.

[Q] I hope I didn't brick my 10.1 Wifi Tab... HELP

So I am not sure what happened. I started with a stock rom (and what I thought was) a rooted tab. I wanted to try the new ICS nightly so I downloaded the ROM and attempted to install it from ROM Manager (install from SD Card option). That didn't seem to do anything so I booted into recovery and tried to install it from there. That's what it all went wrong. After rebooting, my tab stays at the screen that says "Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1" (picture). I've rebooted several times but it still comes back to this screen. I've left it for over 30 minutes just to be sure it wasn't stuck building the cache or something (I did try deleting the cache).
I am able to get into Download mode and connect with ODIN and have tried flashing several stock ROMs and others. The load successfully but after rebooting, it still gets stuck at this screen.
Any suggestions?
Well, simple enough, when you flash a stock ROM, you boot into the recovery, and do a factory reset, I know it sounds silly but there are some files that are in the tablet, since the tablet has no SD card slot, it will try to read the sectors that were replaced and not replaced. If the nightly build files are in the system, it ends up reading that since some files don't get replaced as they have roman's name on it, (You can confirm this by checking in Titanium Backup )
You can however flash with a PIT file if you feel lazy to do that and would want to start without the hassle of booting into several options, just flash the file to completely wipe and repartition the thing, that would be your best bet. Should be on the Overcome thread to grab the pit file. That should do the trick
Thanks for giving me hope! I just did some reading and I am afraid to download and attempt the wrong .pit file. Any chance you can give me a link to the correct .pit file for my tab (GT-P7510UWYB)?
Thanks again for the help!
Thanks again Misledz! I found this thread over on the Overcome site (link) that had all the files and very detailed instructions. Ran the PIT to bring it back to stock and it looks like it worked! You saved another tab!
! Yeah I don't really keep track of the websites But I do know where most of the files are, and Overcome thread seems to be doing a good job of hosting the files required to save every man, woman and child's tab
It's all good, Don't mention it , Glad it's alive

Cant flash with Odin??

Last night I went to reboot into recovery and my phone now sits at the Galaxy S2 splash screen and won't boot up. Tried plugging it in powered off and it won't even go into charging mode. The battery picture just comes up and the little spinning wheel keeps going.
So Ive been trying for the last hour to reflash the phone back to stock using both Entropys return to stock guide as well as the 'How to return your phone to the store' guide too and no luck.
Heimdall of course as always just flat out doesn't work so I hooked it up to my laptop and ran Odin. Odin connects to the phone fine and the box turns yellow, but the minute I hit start, it just gives me this:
<ID:0/008> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/008>
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
I even tried the one click ICS leak from Rootzwiki and the same thing.
I can get the phone into Download mode no problem but man I cannot get it to flash ANY of these rome!!
Any advice or should I just take it to an ATT store on the way home from work??
I got it around the second week of February so hopefully worst case scenario I can still exchange it..
Im at my wits end here, can't do anything with it!!
I had same problem with my sprint Gs2, I took it into the store they told me since I rooted they couldnt help me. But the guy said go into download mode and root it again, it will remove anything and everything off it. Idk if that's what you want though. It got my phone back up and running

Ahh forgot to add I can't get into Recovery anymore.
No clue what happened. I can get it into Download mode but not Recovery.
If I could've gotten into Recovery I could've just flashed my Nandroid last night and fixed it hehe..
ODIN requires Download mode, not recovery mode. If your phone can indeed go into download mode as you claimed, you should be able to flash any ODIN flashable ROMs.
Try flashing just a kernel with recovery

You didn't say what you were running before the problem occured. Or if you did anything just before. Need more information to be able to troubleshoot the problem.
You might try flashing Entropy's DD kernel only with odin. He has at least one tar in his DD thread OP.
It may be that one of the components, such as param.lfs is screwed, but it would be better to have more information first before just randomly trying to flash things.
You can find most everything you might need in the Download Repository.

Yeah sorry about the lack of info hehe! I made the thread about 20 minutes before I had to go to work and spent the hour before that trying to fix it hehe.
Anyways, I WAS running the ATT ICS leak that Task and Fenny packaged up with CWM. I WAS going to get everything backed up and attempt to move over to CM9 when it went to crap.
So far what Ive attempted to flash with Odin was the following with no luck:
Entropys 'Return to Stock' PDA.tar (the UCKH7_stock_odin with root)
ATTGalaxyS2Unroot_SGH-i777.tar
The leaked ATT Odin one click flasher from Rootzwiki (same results as using regular Odin with any of the above)
I did in fact also download the I777UCKH7-CL503881-Parts-NoBL.7z from creepys 'How to prepare your phone for return to the store' thread BUT..
The instructions tell you to unpack the 7z and then run the one click .exe inside but there is no .exe in the archive. Just the modem.bin, cache.img, image, factoryfs.img, and hidden.img. This would've been fine to try but of course Heimdall is every Mac OS users enemy and anytime I try to use the front end I get a 'missing firmware.xml' error and running it via command line just never connects to the phone.
Since Entropys return to stock package only has the factoryfs.img and zimage, sounds like I need to find a complete tar file that has all the other parts that creepy's has in it..
Last thing I did before going to work was updating the USB drivers on my Win 7 laptop to see if that would help, but since I can only use my laptop via Remote Desktop Connection from my Mac (display is dead) I had to do a Windows Update so I could get the laptop to restart (which I don't think you can do through RDC unless I missed it), and I had to run to work before it finished..
And I was STILL 10 minutes late hahaha!
So the laptop JUST got rebooted now that Im home, Im going to go see if theres also a newer version of Odin, and Im gonna go dig through the Download Repository and also check that Samsung Firmwares site to see if I can find myself a complete tar ball of the stock 2.3.4 firmware..
Ive got Saturday off finally so if I can't get it flashed and fixed by then I think Im going to bite the bullet and just take it to an ATT store and see if they'll swap it. Hopefully theres no 30 day policy, because Im pretty sure my Blackberry crapped out on me about 2 months in and they had no problem sending me another in the mail.. I REALLY wish I had my MyBackup done on my external SD card and not the internal one.. Gotta put another 40 hours into grinding in all my Zenonias to get back to where I was hehe..

Add me on gtalk and we can see what we can do [email protected]
At this point I don't know if anything will help heh.
All it will do is either sit on the GS2 boot screen, or it will go into Download mode.
Download mode though, no luck so far. Odin just won't flash it for some reason. It sees it, the COM port box lights up yellow, but the minute you hit Start, it just goes right to that error message I posted above. After this, I have to close both Odin and disconnect the phone and reboot it into Download mode.
I went through the Download Repo. Tried I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full.7z, and even the param.ifs by itself but everything just gives the same result. I didn't try Entropys DD though since I was running the stock ICS and didn't want to really mess anything up. Only thing I can think of left to try is flashing Task/Fennys CWM modded stock ICS kernel but after all this I doubt its going to work. I tried the stock rooted GB kernel earlier and it didn't bother flashing either.
Am I maybe connecting it wrong? I have the battery pulled and am going into Download mode by holding the vol buttons and connecting the usb cable to the laptop. I don't want to kill the battery power I have left as it won't charge now either. Basically I just fire up Odin, connect the phone and put it in Download mode, select my tar file and put it in the PDA slot, hit Start and go.. Should I be doing anything differently??
Whenever I've had a problem with Odin like that, it has always been that some partition got flashed wrong/partially/corrupted, and the only fix was to reflash the damaged partition. As long as Odin is seeing the phone, then it must be either a software/firmware problem or a hardware problem. I'm still thinking it is firmware, but it seems to be outside my experience.
I havn't been playing with ICS yet, but I have noticed that there have been a number of reports similar to yours, where people have flashed some flavor of ICS. This supports the idea that it is firmware. I have always understood that if the problem is firmware, and if the phone can boot into download mode, it can be recovered.
Yeah Im wondering if I should try flashing the PIT file I have for the phone, but I don't know crap about partitioning these things and didn't want to really mess it up.
Guess at this point its worth a shot. I was about to go sit and chat with the warranty folks at ATT (mines a refurb so Ive only got til the end of the month before warranty s up). Maybe Ill try the pit file and let Odin repartition the thing. I can't flash a firmware back onto it anyways.
EDIT: Holy crap progress.. I flashed the stock secondary boot loader with Odin (in the Bootloader slot) and that actually flashed. Now I just reconnected it and decided to try the ATT ICS leak one click from Rootzwiki and it appears my phone is now flashing!!!!! As long as my crap is still on the internal usb storage today is gonna be a good day hehe! Yep all is well so far! Phone just rebooted and its now at the ICS setup screen! WOOHOO!!! Crisis averted!! Thanks guys for the comments and help! Creepy thank you for reminding me we have that repository!!

[Q] S4 bricked, Can't get Odin to work

I'm familiar with rooting and ROMs and have been flashing HyperDrive on my S4 as updates came out. I have a Verizon S4 on NC5. Last night I messed up my phone big time. I was going to install the new version of Hyperdrive and put all the necessary files on my sd card. While in Safestrap when I went to wipe the phone I accidentally checked to wipe the sd card also. So now the phone was wiped and there was nothing to flash. I panicked and shut down the phone, took out the SD to connect to my PC and put the necessary files back on. When I turned the phone back on it doesn't go to safestap it just hangs at the samsung galaxy s4 logo.
I was up all night reading and trying everything I could think of. I tried to use Odin 3.09 using the .tar for no wipe and the .tar with .pit for full wipe and Odin fails every time. I checked the md5s. I tried downloading Odin from another source and it still just says it fails every time.
I'm not due for an upgrade till late this year. I'm desperate. Please someone help.

You're trying to flash a version that's too old. There's a check in place called rollback protection that prevents you from using older versions of software. I'd try flashing NC5 or NK1 via tar. Let me know if you need more help.
FIXED!
Thanks guys. I really appreciate your input. I was so desperate a actually went to a Verizon store in the morning even though I had no faith they would do anything. I just told them it wouldn't boot after I wiped it and they said we don't fix phones we only give replacements. Thanks for nothing. I saw some people posting that Odin failed on one computer and worked on another so I figured I'd try on my work computer. I downloaded an NK1 .tar file from SamMobile this time instead of the xda thread. It worked the first time. No problems at all. I have no idea why it worked but I'm just thankful it did. My phone is running like new.

Glad to see the issue was resolved :good:
It's pretty difficult to permanently brick these devices, just takes a little patience and the know-how.

Agreed! This is the only thing I really like Samsung for is Odin! Now if LG or Moto could put in a form of Odin it would make them way more appealing!

[Q] g900t won't boot after odin

I hope someone has some advice for me. I've been racking my brain for three days trying to figure out this problem.
Bought a g900t from ebay that only bootlooped to samsung screen. DL mode and recovery both booted fine.
Tried just wiping everything in recovery - nothing but bootloop.
Tried getting custom recovery on via heimdall - no dice. PIT failed to download. (This issue is not related to Kies - different machines to avoid interference.)
Tried KIES 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialization'. KIES said it was successful. Bootloop.
Odin-ed both ANCH and CNK2 firmware. Both were successful according to Odin. After each flash, the phone restarted in recovery and went directly to the android image with the blue sphere and a loading bar underneath. Started to load something, then rebooted directly back to recovery with android, and over and over and over.... (20-30 times before I pulled battery).
The phone now will not boot to recovery (only to above mentioned recovery loop). DL mode still comes up.
Tried Kies again, and it pretends like it is going to install but once I press start nothing happens.
I can't find a ROM with clearly labeled extractable partitions, and I can't find the proper partition name list, so I am not going to start trying to force-flash the partitions through heimdall (don't want to get the aboot and boot mixed up, e.g.) if I can even get heimdall to work.
You need to use Odin to go back to stock. I have no clue what firmware the phone is currently on but it's most likely lollipop. Here is a link for the 5.0 download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034334
I use Odin 3.07 and have not had issues for years. Download the stock rom from the link mentioned and extract it somewhere easy to find. Once you extract it you will end up with a .tar file. Open Odin
Put phone in download mode and plug it in.
Make sure the COM tab lights up.
Click on pda and find the .tar file you extracted. Once found click open or double click it.
Odin will freeze while it loads the .tar file so be patient and don't freak out.
Wait til you see the file location load in the pda tab.
Once file loads up click start and profit.
Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned above in the fifth paragraph, I tried two different firmwares through Odin.
I took the phone to BestBuy the other day and one of the Samsung Experience Center staff spent well over an hour reflashing the stock firmware using their setup and the phone still won't get past either a standard bootloop (first screen) or a recovery bootloop. He suggested sending it in under warranty (Knox still reads 0x0) and so it went out in the mail yesterday. Hopefully I get a functioning phone back.
On the bright side, the S.E.C. inside BestBuy seems to be a viable option for those who have a brick and don't have access to Odin/Heimdall.
