[Q] Battery Drain, HELP pls!! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear friend,
I just bought an s3 coming from a sony ZR.
God battery time is terrible.
What can I do?
I flashed CM10.1.3 stable
I tried it for one day and the drain was nearly 15%per hrs
So I changed Kernel:
Siyah 1.9.1 Broken, can't make phone calls
Boeffla with settings:
Tried with zzmove battery Yank, UV-100 GPU UV-50 etc 12%perHRs
Now I tried Googy-max with stweaks
zzmove. UV aftr+lpa sio/row etc is now 7% per hrs but with moderate to no use.
In the next post I will post all the stats, logcat, screenshot I have.
Please help me!

Those are the Better BatteryStat Dump

Do not bump its against the forum rules .
There are multiple identical posts you should have read .
Suggest you start by reading the faqs and guides before playing about with firmware and kernels .
Wipe phone flash stock rom and test .
Battery Stats ask in the battery stats thread .

Oh gosh I can't believe this answer.
You are definitely right, why ask a question in the question 3d. It is wrong... Or not?
For your grace and knowledge there are many 3d about battery and kernels. But no one with my own settings and problems. I dumped files and pics to have some help on my own desperate case.
Anyway thank you, you really helped me, I can now return to "play with kernels'

You only tried the custom rom for a day then changed kernel again...
I suggest you give some more time b4 drawing hasty conclusion.

There's a thread made for battery saving.
Also, in CM forums there are a lot of discussions about the battery drain. Look for it, I'm sure you'd find it. I remember only one thing is that you have to turn off Location Access to google services.

hi lads im a new member to the site this is my first post. i have been using the turkbey rom since 29.0 and i bloody love it its fast smooth and has superb battery life, iv tried a good few roms but i find this to be the best for me by a good distance. i have one problem tho, when im on the phone browsing etc the back of phone heats up and i get random reboots. it only seems to happen if screen is on for any length of time like browsing etc for 20 mins+
any help would be appreciated.
im using the void echo kernal which has amazing battery life, im not overclocked or under volted just using stock void echo settings with lionheart govner.
p.s because i am a new member i cant actually post on the turkbey thread because i haven't got the 10 posts minium required to post. if this is not the right thread for this post i apologise

I also had that issue with your exact same configuration. I fixed it by using a different kernel. Try using the Siyah 2.4.2, or 2.5.1 kernel, if you don't want to OC you don't have to.
Thanks enzo I'll give it a whirl, how is battery life on siyah these days? And have you tried the phenomenal kernel? Might give it a try. Thanks again

no i havent tried it cause im on the i777 not the i9100, but the siyah kernel has provided me with an amount of satisfaction that i dont have to/want to try anything else really. the siyah kernel is awesome and the battery life is great to, im OC'd to 1600 with stock voltage and i get anywhere from22-24 hours with very heavy usage.
also i am a new member i cant post on the turkbey thread...the reason was because i haven't got the 10 posts minium required to post on developer thread....!!!!

[Q] Battery Life with custom ROMs

Hi there,
i am new into this custom ROM stuff and i been trying few ROM and now i am on the UltimaROM 2.3.2
but Battery going down from 100 to 84 in short time
Which is the best to have more Battery
and is there anyway removing the default SMS app and use chompsms instead ?
Nothing is best here. Just keep experience yourself with different rom, kernel and tweaks to find the best battery performance for your phone.

These things depend on how you use your phone, but system and idle seem high on your list. Screen and talking are my top two. Batteries have so many variables. I would try different ROMs and kernels.

I am using the Stock Kernel but when i was installing the UltimaROM asked me which kernel do i want and had a list of kernels but where can i see what is the diff for each kernel ? i cant find such info ,

Go to page one General and you will find stickys .
Alternative is to read the kernel posts in development section .
Or even that new fangled idea google search .

I think stock kernal is probably your best bet for battery life...
Hi everyone!
1st post on xda, but I'm new in android world!
Anyway, I'm using Omega ROM v27.2 (JB)/stock kernel and I experienced some battery drain issues. After getting BBS, I didn't able to point out what was the cause.
After many readings, I found a possible solution: in advanced WiFi settings, they advised to disable "Keep WiFi on during sleep". By default it's set on "always". They advise to set it to "never" but I prefer set it to "only when plugged in". I think it's more logical!
I don't know yet if it's efficient but I'm trying this and I'll come back later to tell you.

you could use phenomenal kernel for better battery life. it is better than stock kernel in terms of battery life but you need to check compatibility with the custom rom you choose
Foxhound Essential .2 with latest siyah kernel
Best Battery life I ever tried - I've used Foxhound, Criskelo, and Omega JB roms but the Foxhound Essential is the fastest, ram free (430mb), best battery life performance around (8hours extensive use with mobile date turned on). Try it its great! Thanks

Try latest siyah kernel - plus Foxhound Essential ver .2 - No bloatware and best battery life performance..
I flashed Phenomenal Extreme kernel yesterday but to test it properly I have to wait for Monday when I'll be at work.
I'm not a fanatic of battery life, I just want to find the right mix between performance & battery life. For now, I found the phenom extreme not enough smooth, I'll probably change it for the medium one in few days.

Get betterbatterystats and check the wake locks! The default battery stats from our phone can't allow us to deduce whether there is an issue

My best results with battery life has been with Phenomenal Extreme and VikingROM. I got about 6 hours screentime with wifi, sync, and lots of gaming. Though i think you can make almost any rom or kernel last about 5-6 hours screentime if you check your running processes and apps running in the backround.
I hv tried lots of roms
Psycho rom XXDLJ1 v 0.0.1 is one of the best
it gives u maximum performance and an amazing battary life
Though you can flash different ROMS and kernels to experiment with battery performance, most reputable ROMS like AOKP or CM10 Wong yield much difference. Too many other variables. I've heard Trinity kernel is a good one, but I just got an extended battery. I found it to be the most sure way of extending battery life.

I've tried omega Rom and phenomenal kernel but these didn't really give me any more battery.
I found the stock kernel and Rom gave me the best battery performance at around 10 hours with WiFi on and surfing internet and maybe a quick go of a game or two.

[Q] stock rom with better battery life

Guys, what stock rom has the better battery life, LPX or LPY?
Sorry about my english.
Enviado de meu GT-I9100 usando o Tapatalk 2
Not entirely sure about the "battery life" part since it depends mainly on personal usage
Cheers

Ok, I says bad. I understand this, but I really want say in standby mode.
I does the LPY update yesterday, it looks like draining more the battery.
If you want good battery life, enable system power saving. My phone went from 100% to 99% in three hours.
I would say go for Custom ROM+kernel for better battery life...many options to tweak with battery life....
Try Siyah 4.1.5, and underclock. See if that helps

I agree, custom roms and kernels are more customizable and will give better battery life.

I agree with custom kernel but in my experience stock ROM provides best battery. It's all very subjective though and this question can't really be answered as you use your phone differently to me.
Just try a few ROM and kernel combos and see for yourself
I get 7hours or more screen time and awesome performance too.
I'm using stock ROM and Siyah 4.1.5, underclocked and undervolted

Have you tried a different charger? Or try an external charger. Then I would get a stock firmware from www.sammobile.com and flash through Odin.

Under volt cores to 700-900mhz. Its enough for regular use. Keep brightness levels to 50%. Close all apps. Check and see if Deep sleep works. If not check to see what app is preventing you from getting deep sleep, or ask the kernel Dev if you have a custom kernel. Can you provide us with more information?

Well, my brightness is 0% and I always close my apps, even clearing the ram.
I will try the deep sleep app.
About my custom rom: Disaster Rom included with philz kernel.
I read about a kernel named Hardcore kernel which saves a lote of battery..
Do you know if i can apply it on my phone?
Thanks for the help.

jb leak's got a battery problem?
i don't have a battery problem....some people experience a media scanner issue, which is fixed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012452
the only thing that has drained my battery was wifi, when i was in ICS.
Now with JB leak i went up to 1d 10 hs a couple of days ago.
and philsz kernell would extend it, yes.

I think i will change my kernel from philzn to jeboo kernel, my phone was 100%
After visiting xda site for 5mn now 94%
Best solution for battery drain is switch phone off and put in one corner, don't touch at all. What are you want from 4.3 inch display, dual core phone with leaked custom rom? This is not Nokia 3310 to forget when you last time charged. Around xda is lot of guides and threads about this. Just search

Good kernel?

Hi guys,
Can you help me to find a good kernel that support CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly (latest), that helps to get the battery life longer?
thanks

Best thing to do is make a Nandroid and test them out for yourself. Each person's usage is different, therefore each kernel will react differently from phone to phone (regarding battery life of course) .
