I'm a total noob here and to Android...well to all of this really. I've searched the forums (I swear) to find an answer elsewhere, but found only solutions based on the EVO or Experia, and neither was exactly the issue I'm facing. Here's what I did:
1.) Had total stock phone that got sluggish and lagging after installing JI5 through Kies.
2.) Factory Reset and One Click Root. Phone was noticeably snappier still with the JI5 obviously, so the reset helped that.
3.) Used Rom Manager app to make a backup
4.) Using Titanium Backup removed some of the bloatware (got sick of Slacker Radio and TelNav randomly running when I never opened either once)
5.) Went about re-downloading apps lost in the factory reset and noticed the NY Times app isn't even in the market anymore? Read in another forum about it being copy protected (even though it's free!) and therefore wont show up in the market on a rooted phone. Ugh...
6.) Start reading and trying to learn about kernals and custom Roms, Odin, and flashing...and "holy crap, I'm in way over my head".
7.) Unrooted, and still no apps.
Now I just want to get back to where I was before Installing JI5, have access to the whole market, and be able to get the JI6 OTA update. I've read the "Easiest way back to stock" thread but not sure that's going to fix the copy protected apps problem, and I'm worried that's going to screw up my GPS again (though,to be fair, it isn't that good now), and not sure what that does to my ability to get to JI6.
Guys, I know these questions are long, probably annoying, and possibly redundant. I've learned my lesson, I wanna get back to the shallow end of the pool! Can anyone help get me there?
"all the Dude ever wanted was his rug back."
After more reading, would flashing Bionix 1.7 fix all of this?
first, check to make sure your phone can enter download mode by connecting the usb cable to the phone and computer and pressing all three buttons until it resets. release the power button when you see the vibrant logo.
if you see a little yellow robot shoveling **** you're in.
if it doesn't. search around the forums for info about Hardware locked phones.
if it does:
download Odin
download stock JFD
use odin to flash JFD with repartition checked and the 512 pit file.
then use odin to flash JI6 with repartition UNCHECKED and the 512 pit file.
then you should be at stock and everything should work as if you never touched it and just updated.
note this will erase your system and data (your settings and stuff).
more info by searching the forums for any of those items.
Worked perfect! Thanks for your help!
Hi - I tried posting this in Development where I thought it should go but I haven't posted at all before so it won't let me.
I've gotten myself into a very messy (and probably stupid) situation with firmware with my I9300 - there's a very real chance I think that it is non-recoverable, but if anyone could give me some advice on what else to try I would be extremely grateful!
My problem:
Galaxy S3 I9300 16gb international won't boot - stuck at Device Name screen.
Won't boot into recovery
Will boot into download mode
Odin connects to device, but trying to flash stock ROM freezes at 'NAND Write Start!' or just FCs ("Odin has stopped working" reported by Windows
Heimdall won't recognise my device (does it even work with the s3? I don't know) so I can't print a PIT or anything
How I got here (over about 4 weeks):
Started with I9300 16gb international version (Grey import from Hong Kong to Australia, booted in French but let me change to English)
Gained root access through CWM touch kernel and Odin
Flashed AOKP Milestone 6 ROM
Used 'Secure Settings' (app) and 'Locale' (app) to set up a lockscreen PIN that enabled and disabled dynamically according to location rules (worked pretty well!)
Decided I wanted to encrypt my device
Clicked through all warnings, followed instructions to set PIN (didn't disable Secure Settings, the app that allowed the lockscreen changes outlined above)
Encryption successful, booted successfully using the PIN set
Lockscreen goes funny - 'quick PIN' option in AOKP (where you don't have to press OK after entering the PIN correctly) stops working
Any PIN at all at this point will unlock my device
Reboot to discover that my original encryption PIN has stopped working
Seriously, I tried it like 20 times including slight variations in case I mistyped, and other PINs that I use in case I misremembered
Rebooted into CWM to try to flash a new ROM
Can't access internal SD due to encryption
Use Galaxy S3 Toolkit to 'download and flash new stock rom, kernel using Odin'
Didn't know which firmware to download so i went with option 5 (GT-I9300_BTU_I9300XXALF2_I9300OXAALF2_I9300XXLF2)
Odin connects sucessfully, flashes device
Device reboots into 'Trouble with firmware upgrade - connect to samsung kies to fix' (or whatever it says)
Download and install Kies (i had the USB drivers for the phone installed previously)
Kies won't recognise my phone on any level for emergency recovery
Decide that the internal SD card encryption is causing the problems, and that maybe I need to repartition
Don't notice all the warnings about repartitioning
Download PIT files for I9300 from somewhere
Try reflashing ROM using one of these PITs (I didn't know any better so I just used GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit, which in retrospect is probably for a device with different internal storage size)
Phone stopped giving me 'Firmware update problem' screen and started going to the 'GT I9300' booting screen, but never got past that point
Repeat ad infinitum - I've tried flashing several different stock ROMs, using several PITs and am now at the point mentioned above.
Only other information I have really is that on the back cover behind the battery it says 'Model GT-I9300' and 'SSN-I9300GSMH' if those are important.
Other forums seem to indicate that I have a NAND read/write issue, but trying to flash a stock kernel (which was the advice given) results in... 'NAND write start!' freeze :\
Like I said, I have no idea if this is recoverable in any way at this point, but if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!
Thanks
Hi. This probably wont help, but try to use fresh odin download and other pc with new drivers installed without Sam Kies. older versions of odin did not worked with mine s3 and I had green screen while flashing problems when I used my old laptop to flash. Fresh pc with fresh drivers did the trick

Hi - Thanks for the tip, but I already tried with my wife's laptop. Should have mentioned in the original post.
Thanks again.
Older versions of Odin do work on SGS3 .
evelopment where I thought it should go but I haven't posted at all before so it won't let me.
Development only posts not Q&A nothing to do with 10 posts .
Two thoughts could be the usual flashed multiple stuff and phone is confused plus wrong PIT file flashed .
Thats just firmware not hardware problem .
Or indeed at some stage Nand is corrupt .
Solution would be
Try correct PIT file first before a repair centre .
jje
Just wanted to say that I have the same problem, but mine is even more strange. I can boot into the system but I have to disable wifi and mobile data right away otherwise the phone will reboot after a couple of seconds. I see the phone if I connect it to the computer but I can not write or read the files on the phone. But I tried the toolbox and could push an apk to the phone.
CWM works but if I try to wipe or flash another rom it reboots, some stuff works and other just reboots the phone.
Download-mode works and Odin finds the phone but everything I have tried fails. I have tried standard stock firmware, 3 part firmware and PIT but it always hangs on NAND Write.
If anyone has some solution I would be thrilled.

It can be solved using Odin if you get the official and correct Stock ROM for your SGS3. And/Or you might have been using the Wrong PIT.
And finally, No idea about heimdall ;p
Try this process: Samsung Galaxy S3 Not Booting? Here’s The Solution You can get detailed instructions here and that .PIT file too.

It worked!
PIT flash successful, then stock rom restored
I still needed to go in to stock recovery and do a factory reset from there to undo the encryption.
Thanks so much for everyone's help.
I am glad that It worked for you
I am still stuck, I am guessing that if none of the PIT´s work then it is officially bricked?

Hello, the PIT Flash didn't work for me either.
I was CF-rooted while overseas and stupidly forgot to disable auto-updates. The tricky part was that the auto update probably was for a different region as I was in Europe when the brick happened, but I live in Singapore.
Have tried to flash the firmware several times using Odin and even the PIT but all have been unsuccessful. I've been stuck a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue....".
Have been able to get to the download screen but not the recovery mode.
Any pointers or is my phone rightly bricked?
I fixed my half brick using Android 4.0.4 ICS XXLAF2 stock firmware
My old stuff is still on my sd card, but not usable tho :s
Any tips? cant seem to restore with rom manager. It only fails

Hey Anil,
I have encrypted at&t samsung gs3 running CM10.1 nightly. For some reason I cannot undo the encryption. I want to use the method described on this link that you posted here to get rid of encryption.
I have downloaded official firmware from sammobile. But the .pit file available on that site is for internation version. I have at&t GS3 so i should be using the .PIT for at&t version. Could you please provide me .PIT for 16GB at&t Samsung galaxy s3, if you have one or you know the link? Ii appreciate your help.
please help me with this man.

Worked well
The method given by Anil worked fine.
And since my device was encrypted before, it asked me password after installing the firmware by Odin.
So for this I just entered recovery (Sam recovery) and did a factory reset, and the encryption was removed.:good:

Before you pay for a repair you can try flashing stock rom via Odin .
I have been rooting and roming for a very long time. The HTC eris was my first. I have soft bricked many times and have always solved the issue on my own. This time is different and I really need some help. I have been taking advantage of the CM built in update feature for a while. I have no valid backup on the device nor a valid version of CM.
The issue started when I ran the auto update of CM. The file must have been corrupt because it soft bricked the phone. I tried to reinstall in recovery and still no dice the file is corrupt. I tried a bunch of things at home with odin, the root toolkit and everything else. No matter what I couldn't mount the internal memory to put a valid cm version on their to install.
Now this morning my bright idea was to run casual. That was a terrible idea and I no longer can get into TWRP I just get the message that I have unauthorized software and to go to a VZW store. Not happening.
I can not get the device to boot and I cannot get the device to connect to Odin, Kies, or casual. If someone has the time and could assist me in troubleshooting and solving this issue it would be very very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any help.
So I was finally able to get the device back to stock. It took me a good long while and I'm not sure why ODIN didn't work the first time but I used this video from YouTube.
As well as the files linked to in his description. After all it was a only a soft brick and i'm going to run Casual to root it. Thanks!

Hey guys,
First off, although I hope that it turns out to be very easy to fix and that I've been an ass for being unable to find it myself, I've been trying to figure this out for several hours and I can really use your advice.
The S2 is upgraded to the latest version (I think, it's been several months since last update) of ICS, via KIES. Never did any modding on it.
Problem: (Not sure if this is really the cause of the problem, but) I have never been able to check the way my internal and external RAM and SD-card has been filled up, by which I mean the standard overview in the S2's settings. The information would not simply not load. A few days ago though, I had a lot of time on my hands, so I just kept it running on that screen for a very long time. When I came to check again: it was stuck in the bootscreen ('flashing Samsung logo').
It is still stuck at this screen, despite removing battery several times and removing SD-card. I am able to get into System recovery as well as Download mode. I have wiped the cache partition via System recovery. Also I have tried to reset it via KIES, but despite the computer's System messages saying that it is recognized, it does not get past the connection screen in KIES ("machine not responding''). So there's seems to be nothing I can do via KIES.
My true question: Is my only option left to 'wipe data/factory reset' in the phone's Recovery system, or am I missing another solution?
I hope that you can help me out with this.
Thanks!
You can try flashing a stock rom with Odin, that may fix it without a factory reset. Get one for your country/carrier from Samfirmware (not 4.0.4) & flash it following the instructions in thread stickied near top of Q&A titled 'Flash stock firmware'. If you have problems with the flash, find Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in the General section & go through the troubleshooting steps in a methodical manner until you get a successful flash.
It's 50/50 whether this will fix it on its own, you may end up having to do a factory reset after the flash anyway, so try it & see.
I presume we're talking about an I9100 ? (S2 is a generic term, there's a number of variants).
Thanks for your swift reply!
Yes it's the GT-I9100. For which there actually seems to be no firmware for, for Holland/Netherlands on Sammobile.com. Any advice where I could then get it?
Plenty of firmwares available for the Netherlands on Samfirmware (yes I just checked), use a different browser and/or turn off any script blockers/similar - their site is heavily script dependent & won't work properly if you're blocking them.
And any firmware will do really, I just assume many people in this situation will stay on stock firmware, so you may as well stick with your country/carrier as this rom will have a modem bundled that will work well with your carrier, if you start flashing stock roms for other countries/carriers, that might not be the case.
It took me a while to figure it all out, but I eventually managed to do it! But something went wrong after flashing, I think.
These were ODIN's last messages:
<ID:0/003> Remain Port .... 0
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
Then my phone restarted. After having been stuck at the Samsung logo for a few minutes, it changed! It started upgrading the Android-system by 'Optimising applications' and then by 'Opening applications'. But.. It's now stuck at opening the applications.
Is it possible that this is due to me having removed the SD-card at start? I do have most of my apps on the SD-card.
Thanks so far! I have appreciated it very much
So far no succes I'm afraid.
As I told in the post above, after the first flash my mobile got to the 'Opening applications' screen during rebooting. Because it got stuck there, I thought it might have to do with my external sd-card (which holds most of my apps) not being in the phone during flash. So I flashed it again, this time with the sd-card inside the phone.
Still no luck! Once again stuck the Samsung logo.
Any idea what else I could try?
SOLVED
Hey guys, just to give an update! It finally worked!
After flashing a few times, I performed a wipe data/factory reset after all. After having done so (and giving it another 10 minutes) it worked!
I have lost all my contacts and my stories in my Notes, but I guess that couldn't be avoided. No chance of getting (especially) the Notes back I presume?
Either way, thanks for kicking me in the right direction MistahBungle! Not sure if it'll actually give you any rewards, but I referred you on Sammobile
Good man. Glad you fixed it (sorry I wasn't around to see your other posts yesterday). Yep, I did say there was a chance you'd need to do a factory reset after flash, and half of these we see are fixed by just flashing & the other half need a reset.
If you're staying on stock, make sure you backup your stuff with Kies or Google, and most apps have the ability to create backups which you should keep copies of on your external sd card if you have one, and on your PC.
You're welcome (thanks for the referral on Samfirmware)
Good afternoon, !!!
First and foremost , I want to thank you all in advance for ANY and help, time & consideration with my current issue. I will try my best to be clear, and give all relevant info here in my first post. Please bear with me, I am pretty good when it comes to following directions, but i havent been able to find a CLEAR solution to this yet, and worried about further screwing up my phone.
** I use a mac. I currently dont have access to a PC, so i am looking for a mac remedy if possible.
I have an HTCONE m7. Tmobile.
- Bootloader - Unlocked
- S- ON
- Rooted
I kept getting a OTA software update notice for 5.14xxx, i understand the install kept failing due to the bootloader being unlocked and/or root. So after being annoyed for not able to get it, i began googling ways to get the update but to no avail. So i decided to do CM11, & recovery which i installed with no problem via, Cyanogenmod Installer.
After doing so, i realized i lost my Tmobile Wifi Calling (Yes, my own fault for not further checking that scenario before doing cm11), The wifi calling is needed 10000%, due to bad service in my apartment. Prior to finding out that cm11 doesnt contain the tmobile wifi calling , I attempted another system update thru the phone, (I assume it was updating cm11).
This is where the problem began, phone rebooted to Cyanogenmod simple recovery ,
1st few times that i tried = "apply update" > choose from internal storage , i searched different folders for the "update" file, but to no avail. The phone wouldnt start up, or install anything , and will just stay on the simple recovery. I even attempted an adb sideload. But couldnt figure that out correctly either.
After a few failed attempts, I tried wiping the phone, cache, factory reset etc. now the phone still stays on simple recovery, and all folders are gone, except for an o/ folder, that contains a clockworkmod folder, which contains nothing.
So now basically,Do i have to eventually get back to STOCK on this phone, to regain tmobile wifi calling ? IF So i need the easiest, mac friendly route to go .
Again, i thank you ALLLLL in advance, & my apologies if this is in the wrong section. Please note ive done my fair share of googling , and reading up on this. But consistently run into a problem.

What's the radio version that is installed? Should be viewable on the bootloader screen at the top. That will help determine which RUU you need to get back to running again.
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...50.20_10.40.1150.04_release_324846_signed.exe
If it matches the numbers/letters after the Radio_ part there, then that is the file you need. Let me know, and I can download it for you and extract the rom.zip from the exe and upload that. Then you can use fastboot commands to install it on the phone. If your radio version does not match that, please post and we'll see if there are other options.
I don't believe that flashing another rom would work right now since all the storage and such got wiped, but it might be possible to use adb while in recovery to push a rom to the internal storage and install it and then use fastboot to install the boot.img from the rom in bootloader mode since you are S-On.
