I tried the OTA update to 4.4 on my AT&T HTC One converted to the GPE ROM (via the instructions and help I got from this awesome forum; thanks everyone - did a ton of reading and made it happen) but when the system tried to update to 4.4 I got stuck with the red triangle of doom and the "no command" error. I left my bootloader unlocked and I wonder if perhaps this had an impact? I am about to try to sideload the 4.4. ROM the same way I did the 4.3 GPE ROM but I thought I'd ask if anyone here had any feedback or suggestions on this OTA update as I didn't see any discussion on this. I thought it'd be a good chance for me to learn some more and perhaps help others who might have the same trouble I'm having.
So: does the bootloader need to be locked for the OTA update to work?
Any advice you want to give people who end up googling and find this thread?
Thanks everyone.
I followed the directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781 to reflash the GPE ROM to my device; it worked great. I'm 4.4 but lost all my data I hadn't backed up in the last couple of days (my fault entirely - dumb move on my part not to stop and run the backup again before trying the update).

Hello everyone, I have been looking for either a ROM or the stock ME7 OTA upgrade for my s4 I have been searching the past couple days and I haven't pin pointed which one I should attempt to flash to my phone. Just like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376140, but I also found another place that claimed to have the stock update but I have no way to be sure it is what it says it is. Also I have rooted my s4 by flashing and downgrading. So I'm wondering on the link I provided would I be able to perform a flash just by using Odin like I had before, or is there something else that needs to be done.

The Darkslide ROM you linked to can be flashed in a custom recovery just like any other custom ROM. If you take the OTA you will no longer be able to flash custom ROMs. Search the forums for more information. The bounty thread in the general section would be a good place to start.
thanks man, i looked where you said to go and couldn't find it, and i got lazy so i said f it i will just install a recovery and try the rom and if all else fails go ahead and just remove everything and install the orginal OTA upgrade and then root it again just to have my multi window manager back. love that app.
i did the rom update and it works very well so far, everything went off without a hitch and everything is updating and all my apps are being reinstalled ...now just the long process of messing with all those darn settings, thanks again man:good:
Hey, I'm rooted and s-off, running (firmware, I think) 2.06.605.1 710RD. I've been ignoring the software update Verizon sent out a while ago by pressing the home button on my phone whenever the update popup appears, but I'd like to make it go away for good, and the best way to do that is to update.
The thing is, I'd like to do it without the hassle of unrooting and going back to s-on (if I even need to do that) to update, then getting s-off and root again. I heard it's possible if you flash a pre-rooted ROM of the update through a custom recovery, and I found a pre-rooted, updated rom a while ago on the forum, but now I can't find it. The update is called HTC6435LVW_2.07.605.1-2.06.605.1.
First of all, will this work?
Secondly, I'm going to keep searching for the 2.07 rom, but can anyone let me know if they have a link to the thread?
Thanks for your help.
Edit 2: To all who saw my first edit, I have confirmed that this is the TTY update, not the 4.2.2 update. However, I think the 4.2.2 update will be available after I flash the 2.07 update, so please let me know if flashing a pre-rooted rom still works for entire OS updates (and if there even is a pre-rooted rom for 4.2.2 yet).
Edit 3: Wow, I should have finished reading xda's article on the subject before I edited last time. Apparently there's already a pre-rooted rom for the 4.2.2 update, so that won't be a problem. Ok, that should be all.
I unlocked my AT&T One M8 a couple of months ago (I'm still on the AT&T network), since then I haven't been able to get any OTA updates. I'm currently still on Android 4.4.2 and I know that the One M8 on AT&T has already been updated to 4.4.3 and even
4.4.4 on some networks.
Is it possible that since I unlocked my device I can no longer receive OTA updates? Has anyone else had this problem?
Are you running a custom ROM?
Unlocked bootloader and root alone shouldn't prevent you from getting the OTA notification and even downloading it. Although be aware if any system files have been altered by root, the OTA will not install. Also, if you have a custom recovery installed, OTA will not install (and you will bootloop or get stuck in recovery if you try). So system files all need to be intact (or restore) and stock recovery needs to be installed.
If stock ROM, there might just be some fluke that is preventing you from getting the update notification. For some folks, a factory reset makes the OTA notification come through.
Also, all questions should be posted in the Q&A section. I'll report to the mods to move this thread.
As with all threads posted as a question, you have been moved to q&a for better assistance.
I've had my VZ S4 since sometime around Dec of 2013. Previously was on a DroidX, I've really honestly never had any problems rooting or installing custom rom's on my phones (A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU HERE that made that possible) so I'm not a noob...but I'm not an expert either. I usually wait and read a lot of threads, follow the instructions and I've always been good to go. My S4 started at MK2, (took the OTA right out of the box, now I now better ) and with the help of K1mu's post on rooting the S4 with Saferoot everything went off with out a hitch (thank you!!). After successfully rooting the phone, I installed Safestrap, backed up the stock rom slot, created a custom rom slot and installed Hyperdrive 11...everything is working flawlessly.
So fast forward a year to KitKat I returned to XDA...read and read and read and followed the Dev's instructions and was good to go again. I know it involved Safestrap-I545-3.75-KitKat-A03.apk, TowelRoot, Odin and ALL_VZW_I545VRUFNC5_I545VZWFNC5_1151670_REV06_user_low_ship_Multi_Cert_Tar.md5. Definitely was one of muniz_ri post. Any way I basically used Odin...flashed back to factory stock followed muniz_ri post and was good to go again with KitKat(Thank You!!)
So now to the present, about a week or so ago I had an OTA screen pop asking to update, it actually showed 2 updates available (don't know if there is a log in the S4 that keeps track of the updates). So I came back here of course and started reading and reading and reading...and I was ready to begin the process in this thread by muniz_ri: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558 which again I am sure would have went flawlessly. Then I had an accident...I had been dismissing the update (it popped up a lot ) when the unthinkable happened...I pressed yes, the phone went thru the update process and I don't know what update it was but it wasn't Lolllipop...so I was like phewwww, clicked on my RootCheck (JRummy) and it said Rooted 4.4.2 KitKat (NK4), SuperSu 2.46 so I figured everything was ok. Not so, I don't know what the upgrade was but I no longer have root or access to safestrap, SuperSu or any apps that require root...and this is where I need guidance from the masters. I have a TWRP/Safestrap back up (stock-2014-12-08--19-33-37 KOT49H.I545VRUFNK1) from right after rooting for KitKat, nothing else...just root I'm pretty sure of that. So what would be the best way to fix? Is there a way to re-root the phone in it's present condition? Can I use the TWRP back up some how with out SafeStrap? How far back can I down grade with Odin using a VWZ factory image? Any idea what happened with the update prior to Lollipop? Sorry if this was long winded, just trying to figure out the best way moving forward. I don't really care about the data on the phone. Before going forward I'll do A Keis back up of the stuff I want to save. I appreciate any help/answers/suggestions...Jinx
hi everyone , i rooted my device couple months ago and it was all going well then i received an OTA update i followed the step to get the OTA update install a stock recovery, unrooted my phone and installed OTA update but now my just won't boot up. it is stuck on the white screen . I've tried everything i read a lot of threads on xda but nothing seems to be working . I tried installing twrp and stock recovery again but no luck . Someone please help.........
@darknight#1993,
Thanks for posting in XDA Assist. I will move your question to the HTC One M8 Q&A and Troubleshooting forum. The users there will be able to help resolve your issues.
Good luck,

The same thing happened to me over the weekend. After trying everything I gave up and used the official ruu from the HTC site. It sucks having to reinstall all the apps and set the phone up the way I like it but at least it's working again.

How did you unroot? If you just used the SuperSU unroot function (or similar) I don't think its enough. You need the fully stock unrooted ROM.
Also its not clear for your lack of detail if you are using the right stock recovery. What is your main version (firmware) number and what stock recovery did you use?
It will probably be easiest to RUU at this point, as the previous response mentioned. If s-on, you will need to relock the bootloader to RUU; and the phone will be wiped when you do so.
