What is AOKP?
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.
We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).
With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.
Why AOKP ?
We were waiting for when you’d ask this.
There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.
For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they’re “baked in” by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.
Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone’s settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.
You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?
NOTE:
Actually AOKP is only starting with an AOSP with some extra features.
Usual features are coming soon...

Sorry, no. Which app did you tested? Mine is Poweramp.
Note. Tested the ROM with BrickedKernel (S2W, S2S, DT2W). Works like a charm and it don't break the root...
I realize the title denotes "unofficial." Is this indicative the AOKP team isn't working on porting this device and its a different developer using their source code entirely?
Forgive me if I sound totally off, I'm just a little confused. AOKP was everything on my Nexus 4. I have been waiting for AOKP on my Nexus 5 for eons.

Why is this ROM "taking CyanogenMod to the next level?
CyanogenMod does not want to include many customizations like they did in cm7
But why not? We want to customize our phones!
This ROM adds more options and cherries to CyanogenMod, cherry picked from the CM gerrit, Google gerrit, AOKP gerrit, SGT7, TeamEOS, TeamBAKED and ParanoidAndroid
Basically this is one big mixture of all the great ROMs out here!
Stock but still highly customizable the way we like it

And about the hardware acceleration app
Did you flash a custom kernel immediately after flashing the rom
The kernel included should make a folder that is needed for the app
You can still add the folder yourself though
You need to add this folder and after that reboot

Doing some digging last night, it appears the AOKP team is building (and has private test builds) of official AOKP for our devices!
I am not apart of the team or know any of the guys, but just putting the puzzles together and getting excited. AOKP is my ultimate favorite rom!

More choices is always a good thing, and more people working on a device is also a good thing as it tends to speed up solutions to problems. While I am not an AOKP user I definitely am glad to see them working on this device.

Well as a previous Gnex user, the stock G2 rom feels really good. I recommend reading the tips and hidden secrets thread. It feels like LG took an AOKP build and used it as reference for the stock rom.
AOKP seems to be based off 4.3.1 now but is also starting to incorporate lots of the cool tricks the G2.

Coming from a long-time AOKP user on my GNex, using it honestly felt like a step backwards from rooted stock with Xposed and other tweaks. The fact that Netflix is not working on our AOSP 4.3 roms was the death blow for me. Not sure if that will be an issue with official AOKP or not but I honestly prefer LG's ROM with tweaks as of right now.
Can someone explain to me why people like AOKP so much? I have admittedly only used it once, but I didn't find it to be that great. It was slightly buggy and I didn't notice any great benefits.
I hope they use the power widget... I don't see any aosp Rom use this for our phones and I HATE the quick tiles

That's because you didn't look through it. AOKP gives you pretty much every known tweak there is on Android. It's what CM used to be. You can create some very beautiful setups using AOKP.
Though I do agree that I am enjoying the Stock Rom after flashing a few mods. I'm not using Xposed but still got my phone to a good stop where I'm very happy with it.

Well from what I experienced on the GNex they dont release a Rom unless everything works
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
yeah surprisingly the stock rom on this is not bad and you can modify it which made me wonder if they used a custom as a template?
I hate to admit this as well, but I'm going to be flashing back down to a LG based 4.2.2 ROM either tonight or tomorrow and really tear into it and see what madness I can do. Question. Does anybody have an app already compiled that fully decompiles apks (smali, xml, etc?) or know one? I don't have a PC at the moment. Otherwise I'll have to head to the computer lab where I graduated college from and build a simple app myself that let's me choose an app, decompile it into a directory, then the option to recompe once done (and resign if not system app). The signing part isn't even needed as Steven's SignapkTool should still work.
Just wondering. It's possible as Matt does it in his Privacy Blocker app. If it didn't force close when I tried to run it I'd try to just piggy back off of that after locating where he stored the temp decompiled files at. But thst wouldn't touch system apks.
I can't stay on CyanogenMod as phone calls are horrible. I'm lucky to make it 3 minutes before getting disconnected. I won't comment on AOKP as It's not out on VS980 yet. We need updated files from LG.. As in an official 4.3 and 4.4 release. I remember the same problems back on the OG DROID, but I'm excited to see what they bring. And yes, they do merge code from separate sources as I saw a weather mod I made for some friends that I released on another site show up in a later release. I wasn't credited, and somebody else created a thread on it on the other site taking credit. I didn't care as thise who know knew.. They removed it a few releases later.
Edit: And when I left the GNex, the were at 4.2.x and starting over from scratch for 4.3 so shouldat least be iinteresting.
Welcome.

About:
- -O3 Optimized
- Based off of CM
- Themed apps with the idea of beauty and elegance in mind. (WIP)
- ThemeCenter
- CM Performance Control (duh)
- All non-system/Google apps you see (Experience Project, Help Center, Changelog, etc), have been built from scratch by me. Unique, right?
- More, but I don't want to name everything this has. Too excessive.
Why?
Android is cool... right?
Yeah.
It seems like it is the same thing every time. You download a ROM, set it up, blah blah blah.
That gets boring. And boring is bad. It leads to trouble, and trouble is even worse.
I want this ROM to be YOUR ROM. Not some 'ROM' you use. F*** that. Originality is cool.
I personally created the following apps you will see:
-Experience Project
-HelpCenter
-GAppsCenter
-XPChangelog
and am currently working on several more. This is MY way of breaking out, and trying something original. Let's hope it'll turn out decent, right?
Oh, and the freaking awesome new MMS you're going to see, was personally, and painstakingly, modified by me. Consider it 'THE' MMS for 4.4, or rather, what I think it should've looked like. That to me is my absolute prized posession. I had dreamed about doing it for months, gained the knowledge, and executed the s*** out of it. Hahah. We're talking HOURS and HOURS of tedious editing to make sure it looked PERFECT. So, please, try giving that a try, instead of using HangOuts. Even for 5 minutes. Or at least pretend to like it so I don't get bummed out. <-- Ignore this for now
All joking and immaturity aside though, I worked incredibly hard on this ROM, doing nearly all of the work by myself (Seriously, Chromium is an awesome artist). So, please, enjoy this ROM.

Not going to be in the ROM quite yet. Step one is making sure it boots on all these devices im building for, and step two is re-integrating it, as it was* in the ROM originally, but I switched to CMs source, so I have to re-do it.

Yeah there's a couple of FC's with the volume setting and if your using the circle battery you cannot charge it without the system ui going haywire. But when the camera and these little issues are sorted out I'm definitely sticking with Liquid, they have been my dd ROM on all my phones. Thanks again for the build soupy much appreciated

ThinkingBridge project consists of people (around the world now) that want to learn how to do things related to the Android Open Source Project. It's not just a fork that has a few features added in and some themes changed, or a project that just wants to see how many devices can be ported. We've all learned something in the process of porting devices, and creating features, and continue to do so. With contributions from other forks like CyanogenMod and CodeAurora we are able to learn from them and continue even with older devices.
Also, all of the sources can be publicly viewed through Github.

Cool man.. Nice looking ROM..
OP you can add in the title or first post about the ROM BASE- AOSP/CM ? so that you wont get post saying which kernel to try.
Downloading and will post the review. :good:
Its running crazy smooth!
Thanks!
Just a quick question. I noticed the stock kernel is CM. Now will we need a CM CAF kernel or will AOSP work?
TIA

AOSP kernels don't work in my case.
I tried faux, franco, hellscore, matrix and they all had some error.

We have kept it closed source
Man this status bar colors API are nice if we can see it more often in other ROMs .. too bad it's exclusive ..
Flashed this an hour ago and i am loving chameleon engine ! Amazing work guys !
It lacks a litlle bit in customization but hopefully it will come in next versions, its stable and smooth and i would recommend it to anyone !

But if i complie from your github (Which i found on ThinkBridge G+) and cherry pick some other features the Chamelon os will be there right?
I think you should put in the OP the list of feaures that the rom has, but beside from that I'll try it just for the chameleon engine, which looks so cool from the screenshots (I can't see the video )
