Hey guys, I've posted this on CM's forum, but I got no answer, so I came here to beg for help.
This is not just another charging issue where the battery doesn't charge to full. I'm desperate and I couldn't find anything that remotely relates to what's happening to me.
My phone doesn't charge. I may plug the USB from the computer or directly from the power outlet, absolutely nothing happens.
This problem started when I was on CM 10.1 and tried a 10.2 nightly, I don't remember which, but if it's relevant I may figure it out. Then, the phone started having a weird behaviour where it randomly started getting into Car Mode. I read elsewhere to try and freeze the Car Mode app, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Anyways, when this happened, the phone stopped charging. I tried other cables, other computers, other phones with my cables but I couldn't find the source of the problem. Even when powered off it wouldn't charge. Eventually the battery drained completely and then I was finally able to charge it. For a while, the phone worked perfectly, until it all started again...
Eventually I gave up the nightly and downgraded back to 10.1 and the problem stopped. But, recently there was the release of CM 10.2 M1 and I tried my luck and upgraded. My phone was damn perfect! The update was marvellous! Until, a few days ago, that god damned Car Mode went on again. And even weirder, I wasn't able to turn the phone off!!! Whenever I tried, it simply rebooted, never staying off. I tried removing the battery and putting it back on, but the phone would immediately switch on again. When the problem starts, sometimes I'm able to get some connectivity from USB but then it toggles the connection lots and lots of time. Through one night, that popup in Windows that tells that a new driver was connected appears about 30, 40 times... it's really annoying.
I then remember an issue I had with the battery of my late Motorola Milestone where I had to delete the battery_stats.bin, but what was my surprise when I got into the /data folder and it was empty! I tried searching for the file with ES Explorer but it isn't anywhere.
Right now my battery is now completely drained, but I'm not able to charge the phone anymore. I had to swap batteries with a friend of mine and he's charging my battery with his phone while I'm using his...
So I beg for your help. I can only charge my phone after the battery gets completely drained. Oftenly, when I go to sleep, there's still a few percents left and I have to do stuff to drain it to zero.
If there's any logs you may need, please ask. I love it, but I'm almost giving up on this phone.
UPDATE: I connected it to a friend's USB and it's now charging... go figure!

I have searched and I have only found issues concerning battery drain or battery issues. There was nothing like what is happening to me, that's why I thought it was worth asking.
The problem is not that simple. I have tested my phone with different cables and other phones with my cables. The cables are not the problem. Also not a battery issue, since my battery works in different phones.
The only thing I can come up with is a problem, maybe bad contact in my phone's plug. But this theory may not be accurate since the problem is intermittent.
Intermitent misbehaviour too

I have the same problem. It works fine for some time and suddenly the car mode starts switching on and of, the screen rotates and then refuses to be charged. I tried the provided power source with the original USB cable, the laptop with another thicker USB cable. I opted to let the phone connected to the original charger all night. After several hours the flash awaken me. It was firing at random. Then I pressed the home button, the all grey battery appeared, and suddenly it started charging and the green level started up.
This is the second time it happens. The only thing that I notice afterwards is that windows 7 stopped recognizing the phone. I am not able anymore to send files with the thick USB cable nor the original USB cable provided. I changed the drivers (the 1.5.14.0), removed an reinstalled the previous KIES version. I think this may be hardware related. My phone has a valid warranty so I plan to send it to Samsung to be checked.
greetings
I have the same problem too. I'm going to send it to samsung.

Solved, almost
Wow, I'd installed the omnirom, archirom, the last version 2.3.2, selected the option to install the mk6 modem and the USB started to work again with Windows 7,so it's a software related thing. I'd restored a 4.3 backup, andyrom, and it doesn't work again.

8-( i'd tried reinstalling archirom, but it doesn't work.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks, I'd cleaned again with no luck. It's weird because the charge works perfectly.

Hi,
I have similar problem regard to charging, it took unusual duration to full charge a phone (like over 10hrs). when on AC charged, it reflected on the battery page as usb charging, why? I understood if it recognized as AC charging the amphere will be higher like 1A, when on usb charging only able to get 460mA.
Anyone changed their charging port due this problem? Will it help? I tried swapping few chargers and cables, still slow.

I am having a problem with my Galaxy S3 when plugged into USB. It wont recognize the USB connection via laptop or charge via laptop or Samsung charger. Tried three official Samsung cables and chargers, 2 computers, and still nothing. The only time it recognizes anything is when the phone is in Download Mode. In which I can restore firmware and everything else. However, no matter what firmware I put, it still will not recognized the USB or charge. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
There are different drivers that need to be installed. As it recognizes the download mode seems like CDC driver is installed, but if you download kies, it should install all the necessary drivers automatically. Did you try it with a different computer? If this doesn't help then your last option is to factory reset.
Hope this helps

Downloaded Kies. Has all the correct drivers. Tried two different computers. Have two Galaxy S3's, swapped out batteries. Both batteries are good in one phone. The other phone just wont recognize USB or charge in any situation. Factory reset it 3 times. Cleared everything off the phone. Didnt change anything. Factory ROM no kernel hacks or anything. Cables are genuine Samsung that came with the phone. Used mine and my friend's cable for his S3. When you plug the phone in when the power is off, u can see the battery, but then the screen goes black and doesnt charged. Also we charged up both batteries fully using one good S3 proving both batteries are good. Im out of ideas..Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it!!

Well if you say, that you did a full wipe, just curious that after factory reset did you restored it from a backup or started new. I recommend start new. Even if this doesn't help than it definitely seems a hardware problem. Get it checked.
Just wanted to share. I had a Iphone 4s and suddenly it stopped charging through a wall charger and used to charge through a usb, after numerous restores I got it checked and there seems the problem.

I have the exact same problem on my note 2, have been searching everywhere but cant seem to find an answer.
First of all hello xda, long time reader, first time poster.
I know it's been a long time since the last post, but instead of starting a new thread i suppose it's better to post here.
I got the same problem a few weeks ago and tried everything software-wise and still nothing. I noticed that when i turn my phone on i get a notification "USB connector connected" which leads me to believe that something is keeping the connector busy and unable to charge/connect exept when in d/l mode. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'd like to try and fix it myself before taking it in for repair.

I have exact same problem. Seemed to occur out of the blue. I took it off the car charger and everything appeared as normal until the next day I go to charge it with wall charger and no response, except for the grey battery image appearing for 2 seconds when and only when powered off and plugging in the charger. Tried many cables/chargers to no avail. There is also no response connecting to a PC, when the phone is on.
For the moment I can charge the battery(s) with an external charger and still use my phone.
I made a simple USB cable current monitor once to measure current consumption of portable devices. Just a 0.1ohm resistor in series with the USB V_BUS (+5V) pin. Since this fault occurred, the V_BUS pin current after plugging in the charger, starts off 250mA for few seconds while the grey battery image appears then the phone shuts down with a 5mA residual current. Clearly the battery is not being charged. Previous to the fault, V_BUS current during full charge is around 950mA. I'm sure its a hardware problem.

Hi,
Yesterday when I took the phone off the charger normally, it started to indicate that it is being recharged, and a couple of seconds after it announces that it will no longer be charged and this same cycle continues and continues playing the annoying sound / message. I tried to fix it by removing the battery, but it did not help at all. I also tried to connect the phone to Kies but when Kies recognize it, the program crashes ...
So could someone please help me with this?

Did you try to blow some air in the usb port? As it may contain some dust that is leading your phone to notify you as if it is being charged...

Hey,
I have been actually been having the same problem, it could:
1. bad charging brick
2. battery issue
3. kernel issue - i dont think its this one any more because i am still getting it on the stock leaked firmware.
4. usb charging board
i have tried flashing different roms / kernels and doesnt seem to be a cache / file issue since it happening before the phone boots. (charging screen)
if possible try another s2's battery in your phone... power off the phone and see if it auto starts or goes into charging screen. I have a spare battery and i dont seem to get the issue on that one. (still testing)
I also noticed i really only get the issue when i leave the phone charging for the night then wakeup. pull the charging cable and the phone doesn't register the disconnect and says its still charging. if i connect the usb to a laptop and connect and disconnect, it registers instantly.
i have looked for bent pins / dust.. depending on the better testing goes it may be the charging board that could be the issue.
good luck

I agree with you about the usb port problem. I also had a problem with the usb port, the battery icon was blinking all the time and the phone had a huge battery drain issue. All I could do is returning to stock, unrooting and bringing the phone to service center for repair.

Hi guys,
I'm having some problems with my S2's USB port. I've been combing the forums to see if I can find something, but no luck. Let me describe the symptoms and everything I tried.
Whenever I plug my phone in, it doesn't show that it's charging, but the battery is getting filled. USB also doesn't work. Rebooting the phone with the power cable plugged in shows that the phone is charging. Doing the same with the USB only made it charge but not work in USB mode. The battery life is also crappy, as the phone never goes into deep sleep (not even with the Deep Sleep app).
First I thought that the USB board might be faulty. I exchanged that (yes, the revision matches). The problem still persisted. I then tried to reflash the device with different versions of stock ROMs (ICS and JB). Same thing. I then tried flashing the Siyah kernel. That solved a small part of it. Restarting the phone while connected to the PC will make the phone be recognized as a USB device. I also installed CM 10.1. Tried it out with the Dorimanx kernel, still nothing.
My next plans are to use the NukeROM script (tried it before, but nothing) and try fiddling with different ROMs. If anyone has any more ideas, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tudor

Did you ever try to use another, USB cable, USB port or even computer to connect your phone? If not, try this first. It is just to make sure you are not trying to fix the problem on the wrong side of the USB cable
Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Tried multiple ports with multiple cables on multiple PCs.

Awkward, in this case likely to be a hardware problem, but you mentioned it isnt. I never seen something like this.

I could live with the USB thing, but the not going to deep sleep is really a phone killer. The battery only lasts a few hours on idle.

I've been using it (even got the paid version). Doesn't really show anything useful. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, it should show me any problematic apps I have installed. Seeing as how I've been wiping like crazy, I don't think it's an issue due to some app.

If you think it's a hardware issue It would probably be best to bring the phone to a Samsung repair center.
Might just buy a new phone. I just wanted to see if anybody ever had the problem before.
Hello all,
Recently I got a problem with my phone. A couple of weeks ago it started displaying charging slowly when connecting it to the power supply. In these cases charging takes hours to charge the phone completely, approximately 5 hours. Few times it says charging fast, and then it charges in about 2 hours. At the beginning I got the impression that it has something to do with the angle I plug in the cable, but it's mainly random.
Now I'm a bit afraid the phone is broken. I've already tested different power supplies, even the original one but it didn't change a thing.
I also tried using cm13 and the current oxygen, no difference in behavior. I even installed a different kernel, without success.
Do you have any idea what's causing the problem or if there's anything I could try?
Thank you!
@StarFishes82 maybe there's some lint or crud stuck up in the port. Use a toothpick and gently sweep inside.

I have experienced that different cables have different charging rate. I only can recommend to use the original cable or some better quality one which can handle 2A, but I assume you are using the original.
I can feel that since I am experiencing same problem. My phone is not detected on computers too. It isn't detecting on my Mac. tried on Windows machine too and unrecognised/Corrupted device connected message popped up. For now, I have flashed Boeffla Kernel (OxygenOS 2.2.0-X) and using its app(Boeffla-Config V2) to increase charge rate(Not recommended, phone heats a lot if you charge and use phone same time). My phone is charging in expected time but this is not permanent solution for this problem. I am taking my device to service center this weekend and recommending you same. Hope they cover this issue in warranty.
Just wanted to give some feedback.
I tried everything mentioned above, without solving the issue. The physical port is clean, I tried different cables, finally I contacted the support. I have to send them the phone and they are gonna repair it. So bad luck because I have to find a temp phone...
Hello Dear,
I have encountered the same problem as you today, but my phone is Sony Xperia Z2
Same problem exactly.
Charging Slowly (5 hours until full)!
What to do? Is there any fast workaround? I'm afraid the warranty is gone, can I fix it in any store?
Hello,
This morning my phone went suddenly off, didn't think much of it because it had 20% battery left and thought I had to recharge it but it didn't charge and I couldn't power it on, no LED lights when connected to the charger, no nothing, I tried restarting it in download mode but still nothing, it had a custom rom flashed, this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-ressurrection-remix-m-t3270121
Had cyanogenmod before this but encountered some errors and got this one 1 week ago, it worked fine except random restarts.
Tried a different S3 battery from a friend and still nothing, my battery worked in his, it was 0% but charging although very slow, just 8% in half an hour.
Tried different ways to fix it following these steps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
Before actually going to a service shop and replacing my motherboard I want to know if there is a cheaper way to get it fixed, tried the steps above but with a 2gb card instead of a 16 one, want to try the USB JIG method but I don't know if it will work.
Any information would be appreciated
If the phone doesn't power on at all, a USB jig probably won't help.
I suggest connecting the phone to the original charger or a more powerful charger with the original USB cable for a few hours and see if it will come to life.

Tried the USB jig, but it didn't work, I don't know if the jig was done right because i didn't find pin 4 and 5, only two wires sticking out of it but I found a workaround and still nothing, left it 3 hours with the original charger but still nothing.
I'm really lost here, can a phone just brick/die by itself? it showed some signs before, last 2 weeks with random restarts and some random app's being deleted but besides that it worked fine. The custom rom was Resurrection Remix 6.0.1 so I don't think its galaxy's infamous SDS and the last time it was working it had ~20% battery left and probably restarted itself and never managed to boot. Found some cheap S3's with damaged display but ok motherboards, thinking of buying one and using those or going to a service, maybe they can Jtag it.
A jtag service may be your best bet, depending on the cost because a used replacement such as an s4 maybe a better use of funds.
It seems like it IS a case of SDS. Nand corruption is commonplace and easily done at any time.
Remove the battery and plug the charger in. If no response then the phone is as dead as.
Take it as a sign to upgrade.
Beamed in by telepathy.

Same happened with me some days back.
I had 66% battery left.
I saw the phones notification light blinking. By mistake I clicked the power button for longer than required and the phone vobrated but the light was still blinking.
I then tried turning it on by clicking the power button but nothing happened.
So I thought it might have gone into some kind of worse lag so removed the battery and again plugged it. Tried turning it on, nothing happened. I thought maybe it needs charging so plugged it but nothing happened. The computer does not recognise it either.
It doesn't get turned on and don't charge too.
I was on aosp 5.1.1 and everything was alright until then.

Thanks for your help. My s3 is really wild. Yesterday i connected it to my pc and kept it connected, after like an hour it turned on by itself. But i found out that many of the things were not working like music could not be played, video's could not be played and became slower than usual. After some time the launcher started refreshing itself(donno why) and finally i removed the battery again. After that it had not booted up till now.
Anothet thing i noticed was that the power button was not working, i had to turn on the screen by pressing the home button.
Anyways thnks for the help [emoji4] .
