Can someone link me to a GS4 Verizon back to stock? I've got a custom rom w/ safestrap installed, uninstalling safestrap is a click of a button, but i want to wipe the phone and put a stock vruame7 image back on. I've looked on the development threads but cant find anything.
Thanks

I soft bricked my phone. I can get back to TWRP, and any ROM seems to take but none will boot. All stuck on the Samsung Custom (open lock) screen.
I think i formatted too much and now need to go back to MDK.
Any suggestions for the speediest solution?
My thoughts are odin MDK and then root and flash TWRP?

I did it. Luckily i was able to odin back to an MDK ROM, re-root and recovery. All is well. I always thought you couldn't go back to MDK, but i guess you could. Does that mean anyone on a ROM today can go back to MDK?

The reason you could go back to MDK, because you were on MDK build. People won't be able to odin back to MDK after they take OTA update.

i wasn't on the MDK build. I had already moved to a custom rom of ME7 and was on hyperdrive 4.3 when i did the ODIN. Is it because i wasn't bootlocked?

Flashing a custom ROM doesn't change your original baseband. If you didn't take any official OTA's then you were still on MDK. Also, there's no such thing as an unlocked bootloader for the S4's.

Your right. I just checked my baseband on my current ROM (recently released hyperdrive r11) and it's MDK.
So does the baseband have any affect on my usage?

Boot into the factory recovery and do a wipe/factory restore.
didnt realize this was possible if we're on a custom recovery. i thought factory recovery was erased once you install a custom one?

You will wipe the custom recovery when you odin. After that just boot into recovery and select wipe/factory reset.
Hey everyone. First off my Verizon galaxy s4 has to go back for warranty replacement due to a bad speaker. I am on MK2, rooted with SafeStrap 3.71 installed. I tried to uninstall safestrap through the safestrap app but my phone is still partitioned as though it is there. I've gone through countless threads trying to remove the partition and even went through the adb commands but nothing has worked. So I figured I would just reflash MK2, however, if I do a No-Wipe Flash, will it remove the safestrap partition? I have tried the emergency wipe with MK2 but I keep getting a failure. Any suggestions? I tried flashing with Odin 3.09.

That worked great. Thank you Mistertac!
I have the mk2 version of the galaxy s4. I had a rom installed using safe strap. I am planning on selling the phone to someone so i wanted to put it back to stock before I give it to them. When i loaded the default partition and ran the stock rom when I tried to do the newest update it kept failing. So I unrooted my phone and went into safestrap and deleted the 2nd partition I would not be using. I also did a factory reset and wiped everything else. Now when I tried to reboot the phone it is stock on the screen that says Samsung and says samsung with a lock. It will not go past there. PLEASE HElp!!
also when I do hold volume up, power and the home screen I see a flash of blue at the top left of the screen like it would go to recovery but it just resets and gets stuck.
In before the lock

i like thor better but odin will work. but if you need something magical, best go with loki.
If I'm not mistaken, you should just be able to flash "MK2VZW-downgrade4rooting-AIOdin-gogolie.rar" from the "4.x to 4.4.2 SAFEUp&Downgrade w Root n SafeStrap feat. 1File/Flash&Done!MK2-NC2/NC5" thread in ODIN and you'll be back to stock MK2 without root. From there you can do whatever, root it, leave it as is, upgrade to NC5, etc.
(anti-spam system won't let me use URL links, sorry!)

Agreed
Hi all,
I previously had my GS4 rooted on JellyBean, running the stock ROM and ClockworkMod. I upgraded my phone with the Verizon update to 4.4.2 when the update came out. I am now on the NC5 build. I am now trying to root my phone again, to run a different ROM. I still have Rom Manager and SuperSU on my phone from the last root.
I tried using Towelroot yesterday. It said the root was successful. I was able to go into Rom Manager and update CWM, which also said it flashed successfully. SuperSU is working. However, when I try to boot into CWM, it boots into the stock (I think) recovery. I'm trying to run a nandroid backup before I do anything drastic.
Do I have to wipe my device, and start fresh? It seems that CWM is installed, but the stock recovery is overriding it. Sorry if this is a noob-ish question. I've been out of the Root game since my Incredible.

I believe when you accept the Verizon OTA update it locks down custom recoveries like CWM/TWRP and the only option is SafeStrap.

Ah ha. Thanks for the reply. So can I proceed with installing SafeStrap, or do I need to uninstall CWM first?

Yea if your on a Verizon s4 running any build after MDK... which you are... SafeStrap is your only option.
Hard to say what that will do to your phone after trying to install CWM.... usually it just soft bricks it and you need to Odin back to stock...

May be a good idea just in case. I've seen some on here do the same as you with ROM manager and once they rebooted they were brought to the unauthorized software detected screen.... And without a recovery and a backup already made you'd be out of luck.

It would probably be smart to remove CWM with Odin before attempting SafeStrap, correct? Is there a specific thread for removing CWM from a Verizon S4? I searched around but couldn't find anything specific to the S4.
Edit: I found a guide on NasirTech. Looks like that will work.

Well it didn't actually install it since your kernel doesn't allow for it now but what I would do is just use Odin and start over. Can use a No Wipe file and keep all your stuff.
You could try the method you found... I'm just not familiar with it.
Hard to say really how it will act. Maybe you'll have no issues at all just be able to install SafeStrap. Maybe you'll be able to install it but then it won't boot properly into it... who knows. Both have happened to me with my recovery ( CWM ),.. and using Odin was the only thing that helped.
Good luck .. I'm sure you'll get it going

Thanks! Would you mind helping me find a correct no-wipe file? I found a couple files, but since I'm a new user I can't post links here, so I can't ask anyone if its the correct file or not!

Where can I get a quick download of the stock MK2 besides SamMobile? I can't find it anywhere besides there and it takes like two hours or more to download. Would be great if I could get this without a data wipe too. Thanks

Another quick question...I'm running stock rooted MK2 and want to trade my phone back to VZN to "edge up" to another phone. I currently have the custom icon on startup so will running the full wipe stock tar get rid of this? I have already flashed the no wipe and still have it

Flashing the full wipe tar should remove the custom icon. The initial boot up screen after successfully flashing the full wipe tar will have the custom icon but dont worry, after the phone boots up, reboot it and it should be gone.
