Need some help with reflashing MK2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey everyone. First off my Verizon galaxy s4 has to go back for warranty replacement due to a bad speaker. I am on MK2, rooted with SafeStrap 3.71 installed. I tried to uninstall safestrap through the safestrap app but my phone is still partitioned as though it is there. I've gone through countless threads trying to remove the partition and even went through the adb commands but nothing has worked. So I figured I would just reflash MK2, however, if I do a No-Wipe Flash, will it remove the safestrap partition? I have tried the emergency wipe with MK2 but I keep getting a failure. Any suggestions? I tried flashing with Odin 3.09.

Grab the full wipe file and flash that in Odin. It'll wipe that thing clean.

[Q] hyperdrive rls14 wont boot

Hello evevryone, I had hyperdrive 9 (i think) on my ME7 gs4 for a while then i tried to update to rls14 and i messed something up. i thought it was because i didnt also install the modules.zip file. after getting my phone working again, i ended up updating to the MI1 firmware (idk why i was just kinda fed up with rooting/custom roms) but now i've been trying to install RLS14 again and cant get it to work. I have rooted the phone again and have safestrap 3.7. when i attempted to install i did everything pretty normally, also chose stock kernel, and also installed the mi1-modules.zip after before rebooting like a video on youtube suggested. However, when I reboot it wont start it just sends me back to recovery mode then i have to go back to safe strap and go back to stock. Is this a known issue? do i have to use a different version of hyperdrive? do i not need the modules.zip? any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!!

In order to use RLS14 you have to update your phone to MK2, re root using Saferoot, then install Safestrap 3.71.

Will I still need to use the modules. Zip file or is it already included in the rls14 rom?

[Q] Issues installing Hyperdrive

So I've tried installing Hyperdrive multiple times on my S4 and I'm having issues. I bought the S4 used stock on the MK2 version. I rooted MK2 and then followed surges directions to upgrade to NC5 and retain my root. I currently am rooted running stock NC5 with Safestrap 3.72, and every time that I've created a ROM slot and attempted to install hyperdrive onto the phone, the aroma installer works great, I make sure that the ROM slot is active, and then I reboot. It boots up into the stock rom every time and the rom acts all glitchy and lags horribly. Also, if I plug a USB cable into the phone from the computer at that point, the phone just boot loops. I have followed the directions specifically for installing Hyperdrive to the letter multiple times, with no success. I end up going through surge's directions again to get to stock NC5 and then start all over again. Anyone have any clues what I'm doing wrong?

You can't create Rom slots with 3.72. Can ONLY flash to the stock slot.

you need to research info more....
clearly stated tht 3.72 safestrap does not support rom slots or installs to rom slots. This safestrap was released for att versions and has some limitations running on verizon phones
So then I need to uninstall SafeStrap 3.72 and reinstall 3.71 correct? I was thinking that was the problem, but the Hyperdrive thread is a long thread and I didn't read it all.

No. 3.71 isn't compatible with 4.4. You have to use 3.72 for KitKat Roms.

So then how do I go about installing the latest hyperdrive that says it needs me to be on nc5?

Assuming you already have root, the only way is to the stock slot of Safestrap 3.72.

I am rooted and am currently running safestrap 3.72. I'll give it a shot. I was under the impression that you never install anything other than stock in the stock slot, but I'm new to safestrap. This all makes me miss my GS4..
Thanks for all the help.
Also, just to be clear, I'll need to install hyperdrive and the nc5 module correct?

RLS 16.1 CWM Mod
Hi All, I am trying to upgrade from Hyperdrive RLS 9 to 16.1 on my S4. I am on MDK and using CWM as my recovery. I can see the RLS 16.1 ZIP file in my file manager and I can see it through CWM when I am running normally. The ZIP is loaded on the SD card on the phone.
The issue is when I boot into recovery and go into the clockwork folder to find the ZIP it doesn't show up. Not sure why CWM isn't seeing the ZIP files.
Any thoughts? Thanks

[Q] Need Help with Re-rooting Device

Hi all,
I previously had my GS4 rooted on JellyBean, running the stock ROM and ClockworkMod. I upgraded my phone with the Verizon update to 4.4.2 when the update came out. I am now on the NC5 build. I am now trying to root my phone again, to run a different ROM. I still have Rom Manager and SuperSU on my phone from the last root.
I tried using Towelroot yesterday. It said the root was successful. I was able to go into Rom Manager and update CWM, which also said it flashed successfully. SuperSU is working. However, when I try to boot into CWM, it boots into the stock (I think) recovery. I'm trying to run a nandroid backup before I do anything drastic.
Do I have to wipe my device, and start fresh? It seems that CWM is installed, but the stock recovery is overriding it. Sorry if this is a noob-ish question. I've been out of the Root game since my Incredible.

I believe when you accept the Verizon OTA update it locks down custom recoveries like CWM/TWRP and the only option is SafeStrap.

Yea if your on a Verizon s4 running any build after MDK... which you are... SafeStrap is your only option.
Hard to say what that will do to your phone after trying to install CWM.... usually it just soft bricks it and you need to Odin back to stock...

May be a good idea just in case. I've seen some on here do the same as you with ROM manager and once they rebooted they were brought to the unauthorized software detected screen.... And without a recovery and a backup already made you'd be out of luck.

It would probably be smart to remove CWM with Odin before attempting SafeStrap, correct? Is there a specific thread for removing CWM from a Verizon S4? I searched around but couldn't find anything specific to the S4.
Edit: I found a guide on NasirTech. Looks like that will work.

Well it didn't actually install it since your kernel doesn't allow for it now but what I would do is just use Odin and start over. Can use a No Wipe file and keep all your stuff.
You could try the method you found... I'm just not familiar with it.
Hard to say really how it will act. Maybe you'll have no issues at all just be able to install SafeStrap. Maybe you'll be able to install it but then it won't boot properly into it... who knows. Both have happened to me with my recovery ( CWM ),.. and using Odin was the only thing that helped.
Good luck .. I'm sure you'll get it going

[Q] Stuck on boot logo!

Hello all!
I recently flashed HyperDrive RLS 21 onto my s4, I originally had problems getting this to work on my phone. What I had to do was take my phone from it's NK1 kernel and flash it down to NC5 via Odin and then install HD and all modules. I then having trouble getting my stock ROM to run, I imagine this is due to the fact that it was now on NC5 and not it's natural NK1.
So what I did was flash it BACK to NK1 in order to retrieve my contacts. Upon rebooting and entering Safestrap then booting into my HD ROM slot, my phone got stuck on the Galaxy S4 boot logo. So I then tried wiping cache, this did nothing. So I then wiped data/factory reset in recovery mode then tried using Odin to put NK1 back on it. This has done nothing as I am still stuck on the boot logo.
I believe all I have to do is get back to Safestrap and factory wipe the HD ROM slot and reflash the stock ROM back to NC5.
Any help is appreciated!

Odin(Full Wipe) to nc5, then safestrap and do RLS21(with HyperdriveUI). I am on pure nc5 and I do weekly installs... and nc5 full wipes. You have to put the ROM in the stock slot, not any other slot.

What i ended up doing was using Kies to full wipe and upgrade to newest firmware (5.0.1). I believe I can just Odin down to NC5 now and do the entire rooting process over again then install HD into the stock slot.
Also, what do you mean when you say that you do weekly installs and full NC5 wipes?

Patient for a downgrade method? Most likely will never happen. A physical qFuse has been blown.
