[Q] GTA San Andreas on I9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So San Andreas is out in December and I was wondering if our beloved S2 can play it. It's kind of my all-time favourite game and i was hoping i could refresh some old memories. With 1 gb of RAM and a decent processor it should just about make the cut...Can anyone help me with any tricks, maybe some kernels to flash or overclocking which can cause a considerable boost in gaming performance or will siyah or dorimanx not have much of an effect...I know that benchmarks are not always conclusive but I can just about manage to get barely playable framerates on dead trigger 2 high graphics with stock cm 10.2 while i could play it only on low graphics on the stock ROM...This is the first game in which i have experienced any performance issues while modern combat 4, gta 3 and vice city, nfs most wanted, pvz 2, angry birds, fifa 14 etc run like a dream...Any tips for squeezing that last bit of performance and battery life would be greatly appreciated...

i think you should use PurePerformances X mod(see the thread there is some point says "- Allows you to play ported games without lags"its awesome.
here is the link to the mod:

P.S:i like GTA san andreas very much.

Well i flashed it and things are definitely faster. Dead trigger 2 is playable at high graphics now while battery life hasnt taken a hit. Thanks a lot

can you give me fps for dead trigger 2? and what rom plus kernel?
btw san andreas have • Enhanced for the iPhone 5 series and iPad 4th Gen and above with dynamic detailed shadows and real-time environmental reflections.
now we look to other game that do kind of this enhancement too, ravensword shadowland. on our device shadowland run on full effect like 4s/ipad 2 but without the enhancement for iphone 5/ipad 4.
if your curious what the enhancement look like just see ravensword shadowland on iphone 5/ipad 4 on youtube. On the first five minutes of game play, you will meet a big troll. Now on S2 the troll body texture is the same as ipad2/4s while on iphone 5 it have better texture.
It depend on the setting itself, maybe on android full effect setting only have same effect like 4s/ipad 2 or maybe can run on high setting but without shadow.
btw sky gambler air supremacy on our device does'nt have lens flare like ipad 2/4s :crying:

have you see the game on other device? especially on non mali gpu? the screenshot is same on google play and the game itself on galaxy note 3 with max setting (from some site) from my perspective the graphic have ugly and flat texture. I see some people share ss on adreno devices and the texture is better compared on note 3/google play. I believe the mali version have toned down texture and polygon. the character itself look ugly compared to ps2 version.

i dont know , i dont have mhl/hdmi adapter maybe you can buy me one? i will test it
btw i notice no matter low res, graphics or draw distance , the game will stutter if use car detail more than low and shadow more than classic. If seems the mali doesn't have enough power to run those two(vertex bound). If you want to play this game smoothly on all max, you need min a device with adreno 305 gpu with max res at 720p. so just turn off shadow and car detail if you want to play this game smoothly. I use classic shadow and low car detail and the effect look like PS2 version , it's okay btw for me

Playing games on the sgp 5.0 (QUESTION)?

Hello All,
I was wondering how to improve the performance on games such as mc3, horn, and other high graphic games? I heard from someone that ics roms run games faster than gb , and that you also should overclock your device using an app called tegrak overclock. So my question is this: how well does our player run games, and if so how to make the games run smoother or better. Thanks!

The Player 4 and 5 both use an SGX540 running at 200MHz. I have both NOVA 3 and MC3 on my Player, and it seems to me that Gameloft has definitely not optimized their Android games as well as they could (example: the 4th generation iPod Touch has a weaker SGX530 GPU and less RAM, yet MC3 runs better).
That said, I have seen people overclock the SGX540 in our Exynos 3110 to anywhere from 210-250MHz. If someone can implement this to a Player kernel, we should be able to do the same, and probably reduce some lag.
As far as Android version- from what I understand (and this may not be correct), 4.0 uses more RAM, so some games might work better on 2.3. I have also seen many reports that Gameloft's games do not work well on 4.0 (more lag and/or crashing), but they may have been updated to fix these issues.
I'm running Android 4.0. I've got an overclock to 1.2GHz. I have set the maximum number of background tasks to only allow 2. This has pretty much completely fixed any lag i've had whatsoever. Even on 2.3! I have MC3 and Nova 3 and they both run fine with the odd jitter every 10 mins but you can expect that with any device. I also bought Gangster Rio but I haven't tried that on Remics UX yet. It ran terrible last time Si used it on ICS Crumble but I didn't have the Background process limit set then so i'll get it and i'll see how it gose. But if you've got ICS Seriously, you will be amazed at what difference it makes. I just hope Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour will run as smoothly!

I highly doubt it will run at all, unless Gameloft has a version with highly toned-down graphics. NOVA 3 with all effects and graphic elements set to high is nearly unplayable (though it looks incredible), and we know MC4 is more graphically advanced than N3. Even if these Players had a better GPU, though, RAM would still be an issue, and Gameloft might even skip on a PowerVR-optimized MC4 anyways.
I am making custom kernel atm, show me an example of overclocked gpu that we have. Afaik the were tryind to do so with i9000 without success

If you look around, you'll see that just about anyone with a Tegra 3 device and a Gameloft game has the same problem. Either the Tegra 3 has a weak GPU, Gameloft fails at optimizing their games, or both.
If you set the graphics of NOVA 3 on the Player to the same level as on the N7, the game becomes unplayable, even though it has to push a much lower resolution. Tying that back in on-topic, as MC4 has more advanced graphics than NOVA 3, it is probably not going to work with the Players.

I can run Nova with no lag. The thing that was causing the problem I think was the RAM until o set it to 2 background tasks. And also SWAP file support could be another thing to work on to gives more than a 1GB or RAM.

Its not one day..its one HOUR job..the game has allready options because every game engine has video option..but with a gamelooft you have to extract option file from ogg file then change on off what you thing ..save and then recreate ogg file again..And only game that gice options is rock star ..they are only developers with brains in android world for now..and off course there is no need to recreate textures..its one command in opengl.

I can run it with no lag, too. NOVA 3 for our Players has all the graphical effects disabled, but when they are turned on, the lag is unbearable, which is what I was talking about (I'll make a video showing this). Tying that back in, since MC4 has these graphical effects by default plus a new graphics engine, either the game will not work at all (read: to laggy to play), or Gameloft will greatly downscale the graphics for us (unlikely).

Install Chainfire3d from the Market. Open it, install the driver, reboot, and it should be good to go.
However, a few warnings. Campaign will not work, at all. The only way for the game to load and be somewhat playable is to do a local WiFi multiplayer match with just yourself. I also recommend letting it sit for a minute or so after the map (pick a relatively small one) has loaded.
So no campaign? Oh well I'm completely stuck on a mission anyway ha ha.

Well, with the full graphics, the game lags too much when doing anything (except for walking around) for the campaign to be playable.

Modern Combat 4

Downloading it now. It better run as I paid £4.99!!! There doesn't seem to be much graphics improvement in the screen shots not that the game needed it. There is a new engine though so we'll see how it goes.

Actually the graphics are considerably better. Gameloft implemented the Havok engine and increased the polygon count. The game is not running with full graphics on our devices or the Nexus 7, so keep that in mind.

Same here, 1.2GHz.
Premising that almost all games (included MC4) are capped at 60FPS, and according to a system app, our screen can reach 68Hz of refreshing rate, so it is not possible to see truly 80 FPS (the difference between 60 and 80 is hardly noticeable, even on higher refresh rate).
60 FPS imho means perfect on this devices, perfectly smooth...
You can try <this> to see how many frames are showed.

That was the case with NOVA 3, but not MC3 or MC4, which were developed by different Gameloft branches. I guess that also explains the general lack of new features in MC4, too... still no jumping, going prone, multiplayer voice chat, or drivable multiplayer vehicles; and using the same enemy AI and multiplayer money system as before.
For whatever reason my Player 4 decided to be nice when I started MC4 today, and even though I am only running stock rooted 2.3.6, I got average framerates of 30-40fps, with a low at 20 and several highs being 50fps.
Quite interesting, as every other time I played the game, it ran anywhere from 10-25fps.

I haven't had the time to try how well PPSSPP works on our devices (I've tried SNES, PSX, Nintendo 64 emulators and they work great as far as I've tested them), my guess would be that any game that requires data install (such as MGS Peace WAlker, Monster HUnter etc) isn't going to work.
Hmmmm...here is the list of working PSP games on PPSSPP emulator....
1.Persona 3 Portable
2.Little Big Planet

Seriously bro?
I have tryed Persona 3 portable on my Xperia mini pro Stock GB ROM and it runs perfect until fight, but I think it's 35-40+VPS I don't remember now on ICS 4.0.4 STOCK ROM (4.1.B.0.587) It runs much slower about 30VPS- on fights...
I have great news that Persona 3 Poratable runs almost perfect and realy smooth on Xperia mini pro using "MIUI Life 2.4.20 Final Clean & Fast" this ROM based on GB.
Shows 30FPS alays I think it's max and important thing on PPSSPP is VPS which I get in battle 45-60VPS realy jumping, but then I overlocked at Min cpu 806MHz and Max cpu 1516MHz it's runs 55-60VPS realy good and smooth, but sometimes jumping lower tha 55VPS for one sec.
When I can I try more games and add info here..!

1, Make sure the PSP games is on ISO format not CSO....ISO is PSP pure game format while CSO is compress to make the games size smaller....playing ISO will make the games run smoother than CSO...the bad thing about ISO is it take too much storage on your SD card...example Pesona 3 in ISO format the games is 1Gb while in CSO fromat its only 778mb...
2. Make sure you have at least 120mb or RAMs before you start the games...use any task manager to kill unwanted running app before you playe those games....

I know that need to kill apps befor starting the PPSSPP emu, I realized that when start to play Persona 3 without killing apps it's been slow and laggy, after killing apps It runs almost perfect 50-60VPS, but didn't know that ISO is better than CSO format so thanks:good:
By the way my Persona 3 Portable is ISO "1.23GB".
I tryed Dragonball Z Shin Budokai.cso so It runs slow about 25-30VPS, but very smooth. So now I need to find to download and try Dragonball Z Shin Budokai.ISO version which is not compresed.

Tested Dragonball Z Shin Budokai CSO and ISO and I have the same performance..! 25-30VPS

Hmm...i have tested most of the PSP games in both format (ISO and CSO) and yes Dragonball Z Shin Budokai in ISO work smoother than CSO....CSO have a different kind of compression...its from 1 to 9 where 1 is the worse compression, 5 is the middle and 9 is the best compression....
Fine :victory: , many games works perfectly
It depends on the game. Let's take God of War: Chains of Olympus. The PSP's clock is set to 222 MHz by default, but God of War was the first game to exceed that and hit the maximum, which is 333 MHz. There's this thing called a custom firmware which would allow the adjusting of the clock speed, which would otherwise be prohibited on an original firmware, in which case, the frequency was determined by the game itself. Theoretically, our phones should be able to run the games spec-wise - it all drops down to the coding of the emulator.
Anyway, use games that are in ISO format for faster reading speed. As for your phone, use Gingerbread for better results. I'm using a custom GB ROM with LuPus kernel. 134 ~ 1018 MHz, interactive/sio.

[Q] Gaming on Evo 3D

First, sorry if it is there, i'm on tapatalk so i can't check
So, i'm getting the Evo 3D this month (97%) and since I'm heavy gamer, i want to know if it can decently run newest games (MC4 etc.). I know that 1 GB RAM and Adreno 220 is not bad, but i still want to know. I want to stay at stock ROM for a while. And isn't the 16:9 screen bad? Are those games compatible with it? Thanks for any answer .

It does run Modern Combat 4 (got it free with my Moga and it played fine)
other games like Sonic 1 run great too. So does NFS Most Wanted if you can get it downloaded (it's listed as not compatible now)
a very little number of game run in 3D mode!
all the rest is standard 2D
Yeah it runs every game just fine except vice city. The game crashes when you enter a vehicle.
Other than that everything is good at defaults. But you don't get all the new games at high graphics like in galaxy s2/s3/iPhone5/iPad 4....In MC4 the havok is not enabled for evo 3d.No ragdoll animations, the gun doesn't shine and so many effects disabled. Same with asphalt 7, real racing 3 and most wanted. No motion blur and no water effects on road. Gangstar vegas has visual quality option in settings but it does not allow anything higher than medium graphics. There is no big game from EA and gameloft (from mid 2012 and onwards) that runs on high settings on evo 3d.

imho the evo 3d doesn't keep up like it needs to... when it comes to gaming... however it does play most games.. chances are on a stock rom you are going to notice a lot more lag than if yo were to root it and get your flash on and get a kernal to optomize those processors correctly....

Gaming performance with that screen?

Hi. I am going to get a new phone, I am coming off of a Motorola Photon Q. I'm looking for a new phone and I don't really know which ones to get, I have a couple of them at the bottom. I am a moderate user. I text mildly, watch some youtube videos, etc. But I do like playing high-end games. My old Photon Q has an adreno 225, and it strains on playing MC4, around 13 FPS give or take.
The keyboard also just doesn't do much anymore and with 4 GB or storage, I can get one high-end game. -.-. I am considering these phones:
Htc One X+ - Because of good Tegra 3 clocked at 1700 and 64 GB space
Htc Droid DNA - Because of very good screen, but GPU might not be good enough for high end games? (Modern Combat, Asphalt, etc.)
Nexus 4 - Because cheap xD, GPU won't have as much strain on the lower resolution.
LG-G2 - 2300??? S800???? ADRENO330??? OF COURSE!
I haven't researched that many phones. (Only about 15 in-depth) so what is your opinion on these 4 phones? Any suggestions otherwise?
My budget is really around ~400 so the LG-G2 is like a dream haha...
Well thanks in advance!
The Adreno 320 in our DNA is MORE than enough for gaming. It is one of the fastest and most capable on the market. I play MC4, ASPHALT 7, SHADOWGUN: Deadzone etc with zero lag at all. In my oppinion, the DNA is supperior and the screen doesn't slow it down at all. This cpu and Gpu BLOW AWAY tegra 3.

But, don't have any concerns with this GPU. It is as fast as my wife's iPhone 5 with the 543mp3 GPU.

I have noticed a bit of stuttering in many games that isn't related to framerate. I've also noticed this on my buddy's GS4, so it may be a common experience. However, I got a chance to play around with the new nexus 7 and games seem to run smoothly (no hitching or juddering unrelated to framerate), similarly to my iPad, so this may be unavoidable on most hardware not google sanctioned (though the nexus 4 apparently has throttling issues, so who knows).
I'm convinced that most android graphics drivers suck. Hitching in games like angry birds is a bit on the sad side.
Well, the new Nexus 7 has the S4 processsor I believe but regardless, the only time I notice any stuttering is in some 2-D games and I belive that's because games not being optimized for the 1080p display. 3D games I play run flawlessly and are smooth as silk. Lol. But I do notice some stuttering in some games similar to 8 Ball Pool and Jet Pack game (or whatever it's called) I do hardcore Modern Combat 4 multiplayer gaming and it's never stuttered once on me.

Speaking of gaming, if anyone on here is up for some Shadowguneadzone or Modern Combat 4 or maybe a quick game of 8Ball Pool, then PM me for my info. Always wanna play some games.

I don't play a lot of games, but Plague, Inc. runs fantastically!
I LOVE plague inc.

Well I'm on Ecliptic Sense 5. Dead Trigger and NBA 2K13 run VERY smoothly. And 2k13 is probably one of the most proccessor and graphicaly intensive games on the Play Store. I wouldn't recommend a CM ROM for gaming, because of the lower GPU clock speed. You could also look into the HTC One or the Butterfly S if you haven't already.

I'm back on Stock Sense 4+ with Blackout-V5.9 kernel and stock levels and gaming is ultra smooth. This truly is a gaming phone for me. I play Asphalt 7 and compare it to my wife's iPhone 5 and the framerate is 100% the same and the graphics are actually slightly better on my DNA. That's saying a lot because the iPhone 5 GPU is a BEAST!! But once they released optimized games for our Adreno 320 GPU then it will hands down, be the best. Modern Combat 5 and Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2 is going to he AMAZING on here!!! I can't wait!
On an unrelated note, my Dead Trigger name is Deadlytrigger24 and my Modern Combat 4 tag is my facebook James Anderson. Lol

So I purchased a new nexus 7 yesterday and experience absolutely none of the non-fps related stuttering that my DNA runs into, even through they're running very similar hardware. It looks like the DNA and even the new S600 phones iare definitely crippled by some kind of software or driver inefficiencies.
Okay, so plague inc was running... Now that I'm on 4.3 it keeps crashing when the world map comes up.

I know that my friend has the stock DNA and was having some lag issues with a game called Dragonvale. Nothing major but after too much stuff got on the screen it would stutter just a bit. He moved to the NOS M7 3.0.1 (JB 4.2.2) ROM and his performance went way up and has absolutely no issues. Not sure if this is related to the phone having no bloatware, or if the ROM actually has some performance improvements.
I wud suggest the htc one x for u bcoz my friend owns it and ive used it to play high end games which run veryy smoothly
Hit thankssss plsssss
galaxy star duos ****rooted*** xda offical app ) )
So guys, I traded down for the S3 and games seem to be more optimized for it. Games def run smoother on my S3 and I find it strange because the S3 has an Adreno 225 and the DNA is the Adreno 320...:/ but I'm glad I switched, 4.1.2 on the S3 is smooth as butter with no hiccups at all.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess we just don't rate. Note to self: don't buy a carrier exclusive phone again.

I suppose I'd like to pose a question to developers:
In addition to the DNA, the HTC One and GS4 I've found to run most games, most noticeably in 2D scrolling games, with a sort of hiccup roughly every hundred frames. I'm not sure whether to classify it as a dropped frame, hitch, or microstutter, but it seems to ave very little bearing on the framerate the game is running at, of course more noticeable at games that run at a higher framerate. After purchasing a new nexus 7 with very similar hardware, I found that this 'hitching' was mysteriously absent in all games I had observed it to occur using the other devices. My best case example would probably be the game dead space; on the DNA and the One, I noticed severe hitching/hiccups at almost regular intervals with an otherwise excellent framerate. Coming from the world of PC gaming, the first thing that pops into my head is a driver issue as most games exhibit this behavior. I should note that I've observed this same behavior in AOSP and CM ROMS (4.1-4.3) using the DNA. I suppose my question is: why does this occur and is there a possible fix?
