Unable to unlock bootloader on Tab Z - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Xperia tablet Z, I've checked the service menu and confirmed that the bootloader unlock allowed value is "Yes".
I've requested and received the unlock key, and following the instructions on http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions.
I've prepared my computer for the process, and can confirm that the device connects to fastboot without issue.
Upon using the fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, I receive the following error:
...
FAILED (remote: Command did not succeed)
finished. total time: 0.035s
What do?

I've copied and pasted it from sony's email, unless it was provided to me in the incorrect case, I doubt that's the issue.
I've worked a way around my task that did not require bootloader unlocking, but any additional assistance would be appreciated.

I've got the same problem with unlocking the bootloader from my Sony Xperia Tablet Z Wifi (SGP312,FW 10.3.1.C.0.136). In service menu there is written, that my device is unlockable, so i get unlock key from sony, but i can't unlock.
When i write in cmd
Code:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
then i get as result
Code:
version: 0.5
finished. total time: -0.000s
. That's fine.
When i write in cmd
Code:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xMyKey
where MyKey is the key i received from sony email, then this error returns:
Code:
...
FAILED (remote: Command did not succeed)
finished. total time: 0.031s
I'd like to install Cyanogenmod-ROM and a recovery like clockworkmod. i'm familiar with rooting HTC- and Samsung-Devices, but i got no idea how to unlock this bootloader!

Allowing use of custom kernel needed to use non stock rom ( CM, omni, aosp based roms)

Sorry to jump in on this post but....
I have rooted my SGP321 (Tablet Z 16GB LTE) but I get when I check and enter the code to see if I can unlock my bootloader I get a NO returned
Does this mean there is no way around unlocking it?
Sorry for the questions. (I wish it was as easy as installing ROM's on my HTC One)

Finally bootloader is unlocked!
I sent another email with IDID to Sony instead of serialnumber and the key i received worked to unlock bootloader.
@N345H: i'not sure, but NO seems to be NO

so if we contact sony to get the bootloader unlocked. if anything went wrong after that, can we just relock, and restore the drm key and send it in for warranty? any has any experiences to share?

I know HTC keeps track of unlocks not sure if Sony does if you were able to restore ta and.go.back to stock I would think it would be ok. Sony is pretty good. I had a xperia arc unlocked had some issues restored and sent it in and they still fixed it no charge

I unlocked my drive and read the warnings, and Sony says it depends on your warranty. you should check your own if you have one. Mine is voided. They also mention additional cost for repair for an unlocked device.

Think I've relocked my bootloader & Simlock...

Hi guys,
Sorry I've not been around for a while - been having a little issue testing Kernels at the moment as I've managed to re-lock my bootloader! (Doh!). Posted what happened below in case anyone has any thoughts - can't say I'm happy it looks like I'm going to have to pay money to get the simlock removed again!
It started when I was looking into changing the MTD sizes so I could reclaim wasted space in /system and /cache so I could get ~620MB of usable space in /data for apps etc. To do this I had to first know what the current partition sizes are so I wouldn't screw up the partitions needed to boot the phone.
Unfortunately trying 'fastboot oem listpartition' was giving me:
Code:
FAILED (remote: oem unlock 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)
and when I tried to unlock the bootloader the SE way with
Code:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem lock 0xMy_Code
I was getting
Code:
FAILED (remote: Phone is already unlocked!)
"No problem!" thought I, fired up S1Tool and pressed the 'Restore' button thinking this would lock the bootloader using the testpoint method. Then I could unlock it the SE way over fastboot and perhaps the OEM commands would work.
It was a partial success, the phone lost bootloader but wouldn't power on. I couldn't get anything to work, and finally had to re-flash it using the FlashTool. From here I noticed the Sim-lock seemed to be re-enabled and I couldn't get in to FastBoot mode.
When attempting to unlock the bootloader I can't via the SE method because I can't get to FastBoot, and I can't through the S1 Tool method as it complains:
Code:
SETOOL2 SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE, SEMCBOOT ALREADY PATCHED
I've a feeling I'm going to have to go back to the shop that unlocked it in the first place and get them to perform their magic again - no doubt costing me more money! Thought I'd post it here in case there's something I've not tried?
...Seems that Simlock isn't enabled as such, but putting in two different sim-cards makes it display "Emergency Calls Only | No Sim Card" :S
Starting to think I've really broken it!

Unlocked Bootloader--Let CWM begin!

Hey guys,
I had emailed moto a coupled of days ago asking them if the bootloader is unlocked for the RAZR in India, here's the response:

Thank you for writing us at Motorola Customer Care.
With reference to your mail regarding MOTOROLA RAZR XT910, we would like to inform you that Boot Loader in this handset is unlocked from Motorola in India.
Please Note: We do not recommend you to upgrade handset's OS unofficially, as doing the same will void it's warranty and also may lead it to complete dead.

Cheekrox, can you do fastboot OEM unlock and see if it does accept the command?
If your device can be unlocked, I should be able to unlock all the GSM RAZRs out there.

Select AP Fastboot, then on your PC use the fastboot binary to execute "fastboot oem unlock".

That's weird...coz the Moto rep confirmed that it IS unlocked. Any other way to find out? Or anybody else to email in Moto? Somebody in a higher level?
Your device is locked and can't be unlocked. You also see on the bootloader "Device is LOCKED".
Yeah, they said the same to me prior buying it, then SURPRISE: it was LOCKED and not unlockable.

Oh yeah! Damn. Is there no way to unlock it? Should I ask send them an email again or something? I mean, its on record...they can't lie on record...=P
Obviously there's no way, until they release an unlockable bootloader.
And anyway I don't find this to be so fair 'cause when I bought it they said the same thing they said to you.

Well, I rushed them another email. I'll keep u posted when they reply.
Sure, but they won't reply anymore now, I'm almost sure of this.
Maybe if we could test a newer release, could be that some are locked and some are unlockable no...

Dealing with the same.
Upgraded to 6.1.B.0.550 then re-locked bootloader to usae sony update service.
Used the original unlock code and got the "fail (remote: oem unlock 0XFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF). Tried unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/unlock site for a new code but was supplied the same code again, so I don't believe it's related to the code.
My Phones setting indicate that bootloader unlock is allowed but no resolution as yet.

[Q] Can't unlock bootloader, Software says I can

Hey everyone,
So I've been having a problem with my Z Ultra that I haven't been able to solve for a number of weeks now.
The service menu on my C6833 specifically says that the bootloader is unlockable, as shown here:
(imgur) com/OO9549 (sorry, XDA won't let me post links yet. ><)
However, when I try unlocking using Sony's official instructions (and using FlashTool) - I get the following:
fastboot -i 0x0ffce oem unlock 0x(my key here)
...
FAILED (remote: Command did not succeed)
finished. total time: 0.027s
I've copied/pasted the key, I've typed it out manually, they all get me the same error. I'm running Windows 8.1 (finally managed to get the drivers installed), yet this also happened on a Windows 7 machine. I've been racking my brain, but I can't find ANYTHING that'll help. The last time I tried, I gave up trying to unlock the bootloader and installed the DualRecovery for locked bootloaders, which ended up bricking my phone and I had to flash back to stock.
Help! I just want to be able to install custom roms again! D:
Hmm, that's strange. I've googled a bit and you're not the first xperia owner with this issue. Some say that updating or re-flashing the ROM will fix it. Which version are you running?

Tried 5 times and then was finally successful. Ensure that you have typed out the commands correctly. Don't copy and paste as that wont work.

I can't be sure as it was 3/4 months ago. Kept having issues, and I gave up. Then came back and after many attempts it worked. It was incorrect commands i was typing. 0 or O may have been the problem, or no space where they should be one.
If it says command failed then it sounds like you have the command correct, but the key is incorrect or the format of your input after the command is incorrect.
Also... are you rooted? Root first then try agian

I have copied/pasted, as well as typing out the commands. This has happened with Flashtool as well as in the command prompt.
And the phone is rooted.
EDIT:
I figured out the problem. I ended up using flashtool for the whole process. Windows 8.1's Driver Signature Verification NEEDS to be turned off. I ended up getting a new unlock code from Sony and that worked.

Hi Mandersoon,
I am in same problem and do you have any link or email to get new Unlock code from sony?
Thanks.
Encountered this on my first try. Then on the second attempt, it went through.
i had the same problem, it said "FAILED (remote: Incorrect format for unlock data. Should be on the form "0x)" so I did exactly as it said - added "0x" before my code and it worked!
I just removed "0x" from the unlock code given by sony, it worked like a charm. :good:
I dont know why.

Do not share the code/key. That's your unique key.
@psylbaba: it says "added "0x" before my code", so I assume he means 0x in front of the key when you're unlocking in Flashtool.
I just.....removed 0x and the <> in my code and it worked like a charm. Curious. (XZ1 user here)
Hi, found this thread when I was trying to unlock a Xperia z2, for me worked removing only the <> like this: fastboot oem unlock 0x"CODE"

Cant unlock bootloader on Nokia 7.1

Im on the Oct 1 security update.
I ran the Nokia unlock apt I side loaded. There app gives me a error message of device not supported.
When I got into Developer Options turn on OEM unlocking Allow the boot loader to be unlocked I still get the message Device not supported, When I run there app
I know the boot loader is still locked because when I try to flash TWRP recovery I get this message
fastboot boot twrp.img
Sending 'boot.img' (38732 KB) OKAY [ 0.902s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'unlock device to use this command')
fastboot: error: Command failed
So it very much seems like the boot loader is still locked.
Any suggestion thanks

I did see a tread about that thanks for the info.
my guess is its most likely not worth doing I dont see very many roms listed for the phone.
I guess its not very popular for that reason. Its a shame it seems like a nice phone. But the market is flooded with phones I dont see any thing that makes this one stand out

Yeah, not much dev for this device. Probably because of no official bootloader unlocks and popularity of the device.
