Hi,
I'm planning to buy Xperia Tablet Z in Japan and bring it to Europe, but I'm worried about several things.
1) How is with warranty?
2) What about menu language, recovery menu language - will it be in Japanese only?
3) Custom roms - will be there problem with custom roms? Will I have to search for roms on japanese forums?
Is there anything else that I should be expecting when buying one of these from Japan?
thanks in advance

Nope . I guess it'll be the same everywhere
Just check the radio frequencies of the phone, I don't know if they are compatible with the European ones, since you'll buy it in japan...

Hello!
I am very new to HTC and Windows Mobile and am thinking of replacing my slowly dying Tungsten T3 with the Vodafone 1605 !
I am also aware that I could buy the unbranded TyTn!
What I need the most is to be able to send and receive my emails in Japanese. I know both Docomo and SoftBank will release or have released the TyTn.
My question is - Can I re-flash or change the rom to this one ?
Docomo_HTCz_ExtROM_JP.zip
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Hermes/Extended_ROMs/
I know from reading other forums that I should be able to read and inout Japanese but the process to do that does seem complicated..
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=217045
I found other pages too...
My thinking is that the DocomoHTCz_ExtROM_JP.zip file may give me the language settings that I need...
I am very new to this! The Tungsten T3 was easy!
Any advice is much appreciated. I have one month to go before I can upgrade, or I can proceed and buy an unbranded TyTn !

Do you know this?
http://www.tsshop.com/eng/product/product_view.php?product_id=a111111111042
If you can try please tell me how it works!
Sesaru
Hello sesaru,
sorry, I do not know that software and have nothing that I can try it on.
Looks interesting though...
Anyone else help?
By the way, have you been able to buy a HTC Hermes/SoftBank X01HT ?
I am interested in that or the Docomo version! But maybe it will not work in the UK...
Ofiaich
Ext ROM means extended ROM - it contains all the bundled software so thats probably not what you want to be doing. The latest dopod WWE (world wide English) rom works on the voda 1605 I flashed mine with it, I only chose dopod because its the latest, I'll probably switch to i-mate once their upgrade comes out. Dopod has the game Another World on the ex rom which was a pretty cool flashback to my Amiga childhood.
I only see a Chinese dopod ROM on the wiki, no Japanese.
indiekiduk!
thanks very much! I understand clearly now.
I guess I need to do the procedures outlined here -
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=217045
but a bit scary for a beginner.
Or wait for the Japanese ROM to appear,

I just got the SoftBank (ex. Vodafone) X01HT 3 days ago. Basically the unit is great, works quite well here in Japan although there are certain restrictions:
The wireless modem is disabled - that means I cannot use the X01HT as a Bluetooth modem for my laptop (very annoying)
I don't know if the unit is SIM locked or not (I just have Japanese Vodafone SIMs to test) I know though that my Japanese SIM in my mobile worked in the UK.
I plan to flash mine with a English language ROM, my command of Japanese is not really too good (native German speaker...)

I wonder why that was felt necessary?!!

That's interesting. I tried my UK Vodafone SIM in a few Vodafone Japanese phones last month and they did not work !

OK, My Sharp 902 Ferrari works well in Japan except for data. But data is extortionate anyway.....
There is a great plan in England for roaming! Calls within Japan and back to the UK cost only 75 pence a time, but for up to 59 minutes, using my free minutes!
I heard that sim free phones might become available in Japan. Have you heard os such a thing ?

Have not heard yet - but I'll look around...
Hi guys.
I'm thinking about buying the Docomo xperia z2, I'm currently living in Japan and the z2 is definitely my ideal phone.
However, the launcher is a launcher specific to Japan, and I'm not exactly a big fan of it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to change it to the stock Sony launcher without root? I will probably root it, but just for warranty purposes I'm not sure if I will or not.
Also, does anyone know if the bootloader is unlockable on this model?
Any other general advice about buying a phone in Japan would be great as well.
Also would roms for the D6503 work for this model?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Launcher can be changed just by installing an APK.
Go to DOCOMO store and open up the phone and type in *#*#7378423#*#* and check if the bootloader can be unlocked.
Phone should be locked to DOCOMO, you need to pay a small fee to get it unlocked. You need to make at least one call on an active DOCOMO SIM to complete the SIM unlock.
I don't think D6503 will work, it may depending on the hardware. The SO-03F has a 1Seg tuner inside and may have different radio to access the docomo Xi LTE network.

docomo Xperia Z2 (SO-03F) has stock Xperia Launcher.
You can change docomo original launcher and stock Xperia launcher as you like.
but All Japanese Xperia models can't unlock bootloader, Japanese Career Model is locked bootloder.
You can flash D6503 Roms on docomo SO-03F, but some feathers are disabled.
In the case of Xperia Z, SO-02E rom can be flashed on C6602 and C6603. I think it should work on the other way around. Xperia Z2 should be the same way as well. The only concern is that you will absolutely lose oneseg/fullseg tv and mobile payment. I think the only main concern on Docomo Xperia is not the launcher but the annoying phonebook and dialer.
To be honest, even I'm using Xperia Z2 but when I went to Tsukumo and spent some times with SH-04F, I liked it more. It has better audio output via headphone, Bigger screen but not so big. My only concern is that I don't live there, I was just a tourist so updating device could be a real pain.

From my understanding the only real difference was the 16GB vs the 32GB of internal storage. But there is a place in Shibuya that said they would be selling it unlocked real soon called Mobile Japan..

Did you hear that in docomo shop in Shibuya?
If Sony Mobile Japan plans to release unlocked SO-03F, I'll wait for it!

so u should ask for picture from sides of package
If it's second hand ask for a pic of the service menu-> model info.
Also, doesn't Samsung have a million different models with different hardware (like processors). I thought all z2's are the same except different mobile radio antenna. All roms should work as expected, just make sure the phone operates on your carriers frequencies.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
this is the HK model.
I am thinking about ordering this phone from etotalk.com, but before I do I need some more information about it and the company I am ordering it from.
Does this phone have App2SD support?
I already read that it can be rooted and unlocked, does the Etotalk Mod ROM fix all the localization issues?
Will it read all sorts of SIM Cards (eg. European)?
Any probable Signal issues in Europe? (more accurately: Croatia)
Personal opinions about this phone?
I like it because it is cheap and has great performance. It has a custom Android Version though, but as long as Play Store Apps are compatible, I'm fine with it.
Thank you in advance for your replies and opinions.
1) yes the apps can be moved to sd card
2) yes this phone can be rooted and unlocked
3)i bought mine from aliexpress, don't know about etotalk
3)i don't know whether it will read all SIMs, and sorry i'm in India, don't know about European networks
4) About the phone, it is a great phone for its price...
My sister bought me a Samsung Galaxy S9+ for my birthday but because she lives in America and I live in the UK I'm having issues with certain apps, especially Samsung Pay which won't allow me to use it as it only recognises me as being in America due to the Firmware restrictions, I can sign in fine, my account is registered in the UK but as I said, it's the Firmware restrictions so I can't use it at all.
I'm hoping someone knows if it's possible for me to replace the USA Firmware with a UK Firmware version? It's caused a lot of havoc in many different ways for me but I cherish the phone since it was a birthday present from the sweetest sister ever! ?? ♥
Congratulations on your new phone from your sister! Unfortunately if the model# is G965U or G965U1, you will be limited to US firmwares. The global model has a different processor and the firmwares are incompatible.

Thanks, I had a feeling it would be bad news but that's worse because it actually is an SM-G965U1 ?
She also sent me another phone, it's a BLU ENERGY XL, the OS is terrible on it, I don't suppose you have any recommendations for a firmware I can install via the SD Card on that do you? ??
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it ??

You're welcome, but sorry for that news. I can't think of any other options for Samsung Pay either, since the US model doesn't currently have a root method. As for the BLU ENERGY, I don't know anything about it so the best I can recommend is look it up in the forums here on XDA, or maybe another similar site? Good luck!
