[Q] Rooted Note 1 in bootloop after update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi everyone. I have a rooted Galaxy Note 1. It's actually a GT-N7000 from the UK, this was the closest forum I could find here. Anyway, I accidentally tried to update the software and now my phone in stuck in a bootloop with the Android logo. When I try to reset it (volume+home+power buttons) it goes to an Odin "Downloading..." screen and gets stuck on that.
I've seen some stuff about unbricking the phone using Odin to return to the original stock rom. But from what I can tell, there are different stock roms available depending on your Country Sales Code (CSC). So apparently I need to look in Kies for my CSC to know which rom to download, but Kies doesn't recognise the phone, I guess because it's bricked. I know the phone is from the UK, but I don't know what network it came from (I bought it second hand). All I know is that it is unlocked now.
I have CWM.zip, CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip, and franco.Kernel-r5.zip on the micro SD card from when I was rooting it ages ago. Do these have anything to do with fixing it?
Any ideas on where I go from here? Thanks for your help.

Search is your friend my friend.
What did you try and flash? For what device?
Are drivers installed on your computer?

I've been searching for days and come across all sorts of 'similar but not quite enough for me to figure it out' threads.
My Galaxy Note GT-N7000 said there were updates available for the device, which I tried to install without thinking. When it reset it went into the bootloop. The Samsung drivers that are installed with Kies are installed on my computer.
Cheers

There is a forum for your device my friend. Did you flash something that was not for your model?
Look around in the forum for your device. Could be more knowledge there.

Sorry, didn't see the forum for the GT-N7000 when I looked earlier. Will go there.

[Q] GT I9300 Custom Binary Counter YES without EVER rooting

Hi,
I'm starting this thread because I can't seem to find anyone on here/the whole internet that seems to have had a similar problem.
I've got a UK unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 GT I9300 in pebble blue 16GB. I bought it pretty much when it came out and was pretty happy with it. I updated it to JellyBean 4.1.1 via KIES last year when it came out (October/November?) and again was pretty happy with it.
Unfortunately despite being super OCD over my devices I managed to crack the screen. I sent it off to a Samsung repair centre and they changed the screen out for a hefty price. Phone came back and it hadn't been wiped or factory reset etc.
Then in December last year, I think it was the 12th, I got the Sudden Death. Phone was close to full charge in pocket for a few hours, took it out to make a call, wouldn't turn on. So I took it into the shop and they sent it away to be fixed. Got it back about 10 days later, working, factory reset to 4.1.1.
So when I got it back I noticed that 4.1.2 I9300XXELL4 firmware was out. I downloaded that and Odin and flashed the BTU firmware for unbranded UK devices. All seemed to go totally fine, phone has been working ok since.
Once small problem I have had since as long as I can remember is that in about phone, under status, the device status changes from normal to modified all the time. It turns out this has something to do with my 64GB EXFAT micro SD Card though. I found a few people with similar problems and thought nothing more of it.
Now however, I've noticed the 4.1.2 firmware with the exynos abuse fix and MAYBE sudden death fix was out, so I'm pretty interested in flashing it. Anyway I came to flash it and thought I'd check to make my custom binary count etc was as it should be. Turns out its not! I've got custom binary download YES (2 counts). Current Binary SAMSUNG OFFICIAL and System Status OFFICIAL. So I'm just a bit perplexed as to how this has happened? Can this happen without rooting and just flashing stock firmware? Or has it been modified/rooted when its been aware for repair to Samsung? I'm just a little bit perplexed/annoyed that I've made sure I've always kept it stock so that its protected by the warranty etc as I've been an early adopter and have to keep it for 2 years. Yet here I am without any of the benefits of rooting yet I've technically voided my warranty and haven't actually done anything?
So just hoping for some thoughts on what could have caused this? Also, is my only option to remove this to ironically root, triangle away, stock flash/factory reset/unroot? I would like to flash this new I9300XXELLA firmware if its got potential fixes but I don't want to add to that binary counter if flashing through Odin unrooted is going to do this. Obviously KIES won't do it anymore as it thinks it's modified.
Hope you guys can help, any thoughts are appreciated!
Many thanks in advance.
UPDATE - Have just flashed using Odin the I9300XXELLA firmware found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610 Phones working fine and it hasn't added to the custom binary download counter. Still shows: YES (2 Counts)
ELLA is really smoother than rest of firmwares. If i was you i would.
1. Root with Cf root
2. Run triangleaway
3. Go into download mode and check if its official binary stock sammy 0 counts.
4. Remove battery.
5. Download odin 1.85
6. Downlload xxella
7. Flash xxella as PDA.
8 .wipe data in stock recovery

Could you link me to them? I really couldn't find them for the i9300 that's never been rooted.
Endrit9, thanks I think that's my best bet. I've flashed ELLA already, can I still root with CFroot?

Yes it should work then run triangleaway check download mode. Flash lla wipe data good luck but if u bought the phone and live in europe theres nothing to worry about.

The 4.1.2 firmware you flashed via Odin is not officially signed by samsung( this is what i read I'm not 100% sure) This causes your counter to increase.

Thanks I'll check out the root threads and give it a go. I live in UK, I bought the phone on a contract here but it's unbranded, I just got an O2 sim with it. Will this still be valid for warranty?
Thanks unitnerd. I didn't realise it might not be signed. Although thinking about it now I imagine it's probably because they're compiled by someone else after it comes out of KIES.

Try using kies. ...Over the air ...don't
Open kies conect phone to computer let kies find your phone. ..then from there use kies to find update for you
Last thing is to use stock 3c recovery and do hard reset there then boot let it go for 10 minutes pass all settings don't setup Google play store.....connect to pc to be recognized by kies and try again

How did you make out? I have the same problem and have spent all day searching for a solution. I am close to just buying a new phone out of contract because I can't spend anymore time on it. At this point I am assuming that as a result of rooting, even though I have removed it the OTA update continues to see something and so it won't complete it's update. I even installed the "full wipe" original stock ROM via Odin but no such luck.

I'd also like to know.
Not sure what you guys are doing but if you installed the MK2 no wipe image and did not try to root, the update should go fine.
Hey guys, i had this exact same issue with a stock s4, never been rooted. called verizon and they told me to go to a samsung kiosk inside a best buy store. i had done all the usual stuff, including hard resets. The guy at the samsung store decided it would be best to do a Binary Wipe which wipes every little thing on the phone (take out your sd card beforehand). It worked, i had the update on the sd card and it took after the binary wipe. it is the lowest level wipe you can do. as far as i know only the samsung people can do it... they wipe it and restore stock 4.3 verizon to your phone, then the update will take.

[Q] Bricked Note 2 i605

So I tried to root my Note 2 today. I had rooted it once before using Casual this past summer, but due to circumstances i had to get a new one.The replacement came in today, and i tried to root it with the same methods. I believe my mistake was using Casual while i had 4.3 installed on my device. I'm not TERRIBLY android savvy, but i knew enough to know that if i ****ed up i should stop while i'm ahead and ask you guys.
tl;dr
Long story short, while using Casual to root my Note 2 with 4.3 on it, i got this message
ERROR: Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence!ERROR: recovery upload failed!ERROR: Failed to send end session packet!waiting for device
waited for a good 30 minutes, nothing was changing, turned off phone and now it's bricked, looping at the "Samsung Galaxy Note 2" Splash screen.
I believe i have to use Odin for something but i could really use some help and reassurance before i continue.
Needless to say i will be jamming f5 on my thread until everything is resolved!
Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Since i posted this, i tried to flash a stock firmware on Odin (4.1.2 i believe) and it failed halfway through the procedure. with nothing more to be done, i reset my phone, and where before it was just bootlooping, it now shows me an entirely different screen reading "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Since then i have tried a different firmware file, still 4.1.2, Odin get's to the very end of the procedure, and crashes at what i assume is the reboot portion. Desperately need assistance!
You can't flash anything other than 4.3 if you have the 4.3 bootloader.

OH. That makes a lot of sense....
I will try to flash a 4.3 firmware right now. Will i need some sort of .pit file or something to fix the initial bootloop? Or is that problem just totally blown out of the water at this point?

I found myself in the same situation. Where might I find the PIT file? I can't reboot the phone to get the PIT file because it's soft bricked like mzaric's phone was. I'm using Mac OS X so I'm having to use JOdin3 to flash the stock 4.3 firmware back, but without the PIT file I can't continue and I've searched endlessly to find the PIT file. Also a somewhat related question, I heard JOdin isn't good for flashing big files, but I have no alternative, is the stock firmware which is 1.1gb too big to flash?
EDIT: I sadly didn't search hard enough thank you droidstyle for the guide. But my next question is I'm unsure of what version the phone is because when I originally tried to do the CASUAL unlock I believe it was on 4.1.2, but I think it softbricked to begin with because it was 4.3. Should I just try doing the 4.1.2 and if it doesn't take, retry with the 4.3?
If you flashed n7100 firmware you are screwed. If not just Odin back to stock. You were on 4.1.2 if you were unlocked using casual. Don't go to 4.3

[Q] OTA Brick, I527, 6.3

I hope this is in the right spot.
I Have searched, Ive tried every Unbrick guide i have found and everything inbetween.
I have a samsung i527, Att 6.3 Mega. Never rooted, romed, nothing. Running on Jellybean. 3 days ago got a msg from att update for KitKat. Downloaded over wifi, installed took about an hour total. Phone just hung on Samsung Logo. Finally turned off all the way, tried to turn it back on got stuck in bootloop.
Tried going to recovery to wipe cache, and no recovery installed, tried to boot again after i saw no recovery got, "Failed secure: Kernel". Msg on screen stating "Unauthorized att software, please turn off your phone and return to an att store.
Tried to restore firmware with Kies and Kies 3, It wont connect, and when it does it says the software can not be restored, Im amusing because its kitkat now and not jellybean and kies does have 4.4.2 yet.
So no no avail, Tried odin last resort,
Tired
Pit files:
I527M Pit-Knox Enabled Rom.pit
i527m.pit
Samsung_I527_PIT.PIT
Firmware files:
I527UCUAMK2_I527ATTAMK2_I527UCUAMK2_HOME.tar
Recovery:
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-melius
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-melius.tar
When i flash the pit files they will only flash in Odin 3.07
That is the only thing that will flash PEROID
When i try the firmware it fails at Aboot, and on the screen i get
"Secure chk failed: Fused 4, binary 3"
When flashing recovery i get failed "Auth failed"
and on the screen i get "secure check failed :recovery"
The pit files will not flash in Odin 1.85, 3.04, 3.05, or 3.06.
I took it to the att store and they looked like deer and headlights.
If anyone has any insight that would be wonderful. Im starting to believe that when it updated it installed the new KNOX bootloader which is now not allowing me to restore 4.3, and once i got a "Check Security Bit".
Thanks
Sorry again if this is in the wrong fourm, Ive been browsing about 6 different sites and have not seen any one have this problem that hasnt been able to recover with kies or odin.
I would say you are in the right place. I would say something went wrong.
This is all ATT. You did as you were told. Sounds to me like ATT owes you a new phone. If you have a Best Buy anywhere near, you would pry be better off going there. Some of them have the Samsung experience section. They have been know to be able to flash stock firmwares.
There are a couple other threads on the subject. You are not the first to have this issue.
Good luck

So update,
Went to bestbuy Samsung center.
They pluged my mega up and started restoring, after 8 attempts of trying to restore in Home mode and Factory mode, still would not reload recovery, only download mode, Or bootloop.
So until a dev or someone else can get there hands on the kitkat firmware for the Mega i am stuck with a brick.
But on another note, Samsung retail locations have a program called "Smart" It has every firmware for every phone, make, model, carrier. Plug in select Home, or Factory mode, throw phone in download mode, and click start. I tried for about 40 mins to have him allow me to pull the program and throw it on a sd card, no hope lol.
If anyone has any other idea im up for anything.
Thanks

Post Postmortem
I know this is an old and therefore "dead" thread but it shows up a lot under searches and for the sake of anyone that stumbles upon this and is still looking for the proper fix; the i527 is ATT branded therefore needs the proper rom which is: I527UCUBNE7 not any of the other ones you see out there. For any ATT user whit a bricked mega wondering why you can't do a proper install though odin I hope this hepls you.

[Q] selling phone

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 that I bricked. Been trying for weeks to fix it. Seems to be soft bricked. Any way my question is, if I sell it as broken for parts, can someone get any personal information out of it? Assuming they can fix it.
Can you get it into download mode? Does it boot at all? If you can get it into download mode, You should flash the stock rom of what you had, what version os did you have on it?
Yes I can. I have tried Odin, heimdall and kies. Nothing seems to get the job done. Please answer my question. I am listing it on Ebay as used digitized. Don't really want to disassemble it and sell just screen.

If Kies processes are running in the background, Odin will be disabled.
Kill Kies crap (all Kies processes) with the Task Manager, then try to flash again.

Pretty sure if its soft bricked they'd need to flash over whatever you already have on there, thus wiping the phone.
Thanks
Know on NC5 there is a no wipe image available for odin. If that was successfully flashed in theory the device could be restored and data recovered.
