WI-FI Optimisation issue - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I noticed that in the advanced wifi settings is a setting for wifi optimisation which says it saves battery.
I am finding that when this setting is on, every time i am on a game i am getting messages says lost connection and my games having to reset or start again, when the setting is off this doesn't happen.
the option does actually seem to save a lot of battery i have found, but its a shame that i keep getting disconnects with it turned on
has anyone else found this?
thanks
James

[Q] Wifi disconnecting when screen is off

Hi guys, I have an issue with my wifi. Here is the scenario:
When I am at uni I use the wifi they provide. No proxies, just a password.
It is woking fine and data is syncing. However, only when the screen is on.
Whenever the phone takes a little nap, the connection seems to vanish as I do not get mails, messages (whatsapp), or facebook notes.
Now some weird facts:
It is working fine at home with my own wifi.
It is working fine for a friend (using an iphone4 at uni)
So it must be something specific to the S2 and the schools wifi. Any ideas guys?
Help is very much appreciated!
Go inside Wifi settings, Menu- Advanced and change Wifi policy to like this,

Thanks for the quick reply! My appologies for not mentioning this, but it was already set to Never.
EDIT: I am at home right now. Is this setting different for different wifis?

To change THIS policy, go to settings > Wireless & Networks > WiFi Settings
Go into advanced, and there's the WiFi Policy.

When you are at the page looking at all the available WiFi hotspots, press menu key and the 2 options will show up. The one on the right is to go to advanced menu
Oops, I almost forgot I posted this. But thank you so much, that fixed it!!

Super big thanks, I have never pressed the menu key when looking at the settings.
similar problem
I am having a similar problem, wifi shuts off when the phone ISNT plugged in, and the screen turns off. Tried the fix suggested here, didnt change anything.
What I have noticed is that my old router didnt have this issue, got a newer (and better?) one, and this started.
had this problem with my G2, and now mytouch 4g slide.
any help would be awesome, thanks.

The answer is quite simple. Go to .... Settings, find Wifi, click on the WiFi Settings NOT the On/Off Switch...when you're in that screen click on your phones Menu , Advance , and adjust your WiFi Sleep Policy.
Sorry...its called Keep WiFi on during sleep...

[FIX] WiFi Disconnect issues!

A VERY long time lurker here, I saw quite a few people here having issues with their WiFi disconnecting all the time. I too had the same problem until I stumbled across a fix. I found this on another site, but either way it worked for me.
Open up your dial pad and enter *#0011#
Service Mode will open up.
Hit the menu button, select "WiFi"
You'll see "WiFi power save mode", the button under it will say "on" and the letters will be blue.
Turn this setting "off" and you should be good to go.
I take no credit for this fix, but thought I would share with those having issues.
I also posted this in another tread, but thought this would be easier for those having issues to find.

Well pick your poison, Wifi that doesn't keep disconnecting and pissing you off or use a little more batter. I've had this going for over a day now and haven't noticed any excess battery drain.
I'll keep an eye on it and report back.
While this may work for some, it's NOT a solution that's permanent like changing your router to use a single encryption. You have to reset this on every boot. It also doesn't work in every case. I've turned this off, it's off right now, should I put up a video that shows the switch off and the unit getting connected again? The software has a problem (IMHO) with the re-connection negotiation. when it does a re-negotiation of the connection link speed, it drops the connection to make the change, it shouldn't. "N" only WPA2-AES radio with a 128bit password certainly has a problem. I won't accept lesser security like TKIP (more widely reported as working) or a shorter password.
IF you had to turn the Wifi Power Saving Switch off, you and everyone else, needs to call Samsung and report it, so it gets fixed, ASAP. http://youtu.be/YQyenxUHxsk

update your router to latest firmware or latest 3P firmware.
if you are using 5Ghz don't use DFS channels
if you are using 2.4Ghz don't use 40mhz wide channels
wait for a fix from Samsung, they are aware of the problem and are working with multiple people to figure out a solution.
Meanwhile
I don't have any issues with WiFi.
And if I do rarely, I just turn it off and back on. It usually happens coming home, and trying to discover router. Happened twice I think.

Wifi bug

i've the rom GingerDX 031c and I've noted a bug with wifi.
pratically, when the phone connected to a wifi and when I put it in standby, it lose the connection with the wifi, so, for example, if someone send me an important message on whatsapp I can't know, because is such as there isn't wifi.
anyone can fix this bug?
sorry for my bad english.
If u use scripts it happens especially performance scripts like pure performance... Scripts switch to data and close wifi when phone sleeps... Did not read the scripts yet, could look when i had time...

LooL.
1.Just Go to Wi-Fi settings
2.Click Menu (Left button) Of ace.
3.Click Advanced
4.Click on Wi-Fi Sleep Policy
5.And select 3rd option that is Never
This happens because usually By default Option selected for wifi is like when you turn off screen Your wifi gets disconnected automatically. This setting is for battery Conservation purpose.
So you have to manually change that default setting. So after this your wiFi will not turn Off though your screen is off.
Hope this helps you.
& I don't think it has anything to do with Scripts.

[Q] Wifi Calling Keeps Showing Up In Quick Settings

Normally I only have 5 Quick Settings icons enabled (Quick Memo, Wifi, Sound Profile, Data, and Bluetooth), however every time I reboot my phone, the Wifi Calling icon re-enables itself and pushes itself in between the Data and Bluetooth toggles, pushing Bluetooth off of the screen. I realize that it's easy to just go back into the 'Quick Settings' settings and un-tick Wifi Calling again, but it gets really annoying when I reboot multiple times a day. Does anyone know of a more permanent solution besides just un-ticking the box every time I reboot? If it helps, I am using the Gold edition G3 from Sprint (obviously) and I'm rooted. This 'problem' has been going on since I got the phone.
I have the exact same issue, but I have my WiFi Calling quick setting button enabled. Normally I have Bluetooth in the fifth and right most spot, but WiFi Calling always forces it's way back to that spot upon a reboot, pushing BT to the next page.
In the Edit menu, they show correctly but they are actually flipped, so I just move one of them then move it right back.
Not a huge problem, it's just a weird little glitch I've never seen before on any other device.
I was just about to post about the same situation (wifi callling always showing in quick settings).
Is there a fix to this. It is getting annoying because I never use wifi calling yet it always shows up in quick settings even though I always uncheck it the quick settings options

I doubt there is a fix for it yet. I can't even reorder the icons, without it changing them back to original order.

Im having the same issue, before and after root. Anyone heard of it happening on other carriers or is it just sprint?
We should all contact Sprint and let them know. Maybe it will be fixed with an update.
This is very annoying...
I too have this same issue
