Someone already got WhatsApp (whatsapp<dot>com) working on their Archos Gen8?
I have downloaded the apk for Android and installed it on my Archos 70, but I get an error that the application does not recognise my Archos (or something similar).
It seems that it doesn't work on a WIFI only device, GSM module is required I think.
Maybe someone has found a workaround for this?
BTW, I have already contacted WhatsApp support via email, waiting for their reply...
WhatsApp needs GSM because your mobile number is your login credentials/identifier: no GSM -> no identifier -> no WhatsApp
edit: to get around the missing gsm problem, they would have to implement real credentials (phone number + password) so not everbody can just type your phone number in his whatsapp and send messages as it he were you.

He wrote they have to change this in the application
Im sorry but i think they wont doing it, just because one archos user want it.
(nearly) all other android devices can "handle" whatsapp because nearly all android devices are phones
(so gsm module is included)
Hmmm that sucks... Because I almost always have WiFi so it would save me like 10 euro per month. But there are way more Tablets like Xoom, how do they do it? Or does the Xoom also have an data plan? Maybe there are some hackers who can fix/crack it?
Yes the Xoom has an data plan
You can try mjoy.com, its pretty the same
Hackers would have to change the apk, and thats much work
sorry, but i think no one will do this

Thanks for your answer. I live in holland, and does Mjoy.com mean that I can text anyone anywhere with my Archos (WiFi) and my normal mobile number? That's crazy. thank you.
EDIT: But do I get the message's on my mobile phone or on my Archos? Because if I get them on my phone it is rather useless.

You get the messages not on your Archos, you get them on phone
Because mjoy should actually use on phone (on your archos you have to change user gent to iphone) but then you need a data plan

it's the same whatsapp as it uses the same phone # , the same contacts , the same mesages and the same status
you have to take a backup from a working whatsapp because whatsapp needs a cell phone # to authenticate .
Well that sucks.

dude try to get your whatsapp running on any android phone then just take your backup it's too easy
does that mean you could change some parameters in the user data of whatsapp and login as a different phone#
Hi,
Two weeks ago the sms service stopped working. I can't send any messages. I checked with my carrier and they told me to try with mi sim card on other phone, so I did and it worked so I'm guessing it's a phone problem (they can't help because I didn't bought my phone with them) so I was wondering if you can help me?
I can receive but can't send (just keeps saying "sending" but nothing else)
Thanks
Usual SMS problem is wrong network settings in message centre .
jje
Ok, but when the called the checked my setting and nothing seemed to be wrong.

From the messaging app: Settings > Message Centre. Does it have a number there? If so, Google the "Message Centre" (or Center, depending on your location) number for your carrier. If it doesn't match, change it to match.
Ok thanks, but checke and it's the correct one for my carrier and country.

Hmm. weird. OK, try clearing out the message centre number, and putting it back in. If that doesn't work, try a third party SMS client, like GoSMS or HandCent.
Thanks now it works. Still wondering why the stock messaging app doesn't =(

So GoSMS or HandCent works, but stock Messaging app does not? That's weird.
If you really want stock back, try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, you can re-flash a stock firmware.

Hi guys! i Have just upgraded my gsm razr xt910 to official jb (982.124.14.retail.en.eu )
everything's ok but i have a "problem" (if i can call it in this way)
everytime i turn on my phone i see in the notification bar the voice "synchronizing contacts between sim card and phone" (those are not the real words, it's my traslation from italian ) this also happens when i set airplane mode and when i suddenly disable it..
as i said before, this is not a real problem, because this synchronization lasts a few minutes and then it turns off, but i want to disable it because it's useless..and i even want to now if i'm the only one who has this problem
thank you guys !
Hi, if you are not rooted, You will not be able to shut it down.
Can I ask? What colour is Your "people" (contacts app)? Is it white?

i remember than in ics there was a process who asked you to synchronize only if it finds new contacts in the sim ..not every moment like the new one

I noticed the same. I suppose it is syncing contacts with Google Gmail??
You can disable sync when you open Contacts. Choose settings and Accounts. There is an option to disable auto-sync.
However, I did not try this, so I am not sure.

The support doesn't even help (i got no answer), i've tried reinstall the app, cleaning cache... no solution. and it's only my phone number... my brother's number works normally, i don't use WHATSAPP plus... it's downloaded from google play.

Anyone else unable to send or receive pics and group message in the stock app? I'm on T-Mobile and it just doesn't work at all. Factory reset, correct apn settings, new Sim card, replaced my device, and still nothing. BUT 3rd party apps work.. wth? T-Mobile has a trouble ticket in, and there telling me it's a faulty device, which I don't see how it's possible since it's already a replacement and 3rd party apps wouldn't work if it was the phone. I'm stumped

It's bizarre.. literally every 3rd party app works fine, butnkf course then I lose RCS. T-Mobile has been trying to figure it out, they want to replace my phone AGAIN even though I explained that it must be something my account or RCS related since it doesn't affect 3rd party apps. Strangest thing

T-Mobile had me try that and change the protocol to IPv4/IPv6.. didn't fix it.
Solved.. MMS through the stock app does not work when using the built in private dns feature. I finally figured it out, and sent my theory to the T-Mobile "engineers" that had been working with me to see if they could solve the issue. Attached below is their acknowledgement that I had stumbled onto the answer to the problem
