Hey Guys,
Really hoping someone can help me out here. I've been trying to root a friend's Xperia U for the past 3 days now, without much luck!
Its on ICS, Firmware ST25a 6.1.1.B.1.10, unlocked bootloader. The two methods are Bin4ry's and using FlashTool .For starters, USB debugging is enabled.
In both cases, the phone was undetected, even after installing loads of drivers found all over the web. After extensive reading, I came across a suggestion to enable USB tethering, and lo behold! The phone was detected!
"What's the problem then?", you ask?
Well, after following the careful instructions to restore the 'RootME' backup (on the phone), it phone reboots. When it comes back on, the screen is a mess, very dark (similar to a burnt screen) and extremely slow to respond. I read elsewhere that this is quite normal(!) and will be fixed after subsequent reboots.
The problem lies here, as I believe USB tethering is no longer ticked after the reboot, and it needs to be, doesn't it? Both Flashtool and the script wait for the phone to be detected, with no change at all. I somehow manage to navigate to 'Settings', but on trying to access tethering, it always crashes as below:
"Unfortunately settings has stopped"
Ugh.
How do I see the message when the screen is burnt out, you ask?
Pulling down the notification bar lets me see parts of the screen on its way down, and back up
Soooo...
Without USB tethering enabled, rooting does not complete, and I am left with a nearly un-useable device (until a factory reset). My internet speeds are terrible, and I am now in the process of downloading another firmware (6.1.1.b.1.54) in the hopes that it does not need USB tethering enabled to be detected by Flashtool (or Bin4ry's scripts)!
Thoughts?
I think you must flash a new firmware to get your phone back, its quiet simple. don't worry this will bring back your phone. let me know how that went.

First thing is I dont own xperia U!
But the way that I root my sola, is flashin cwm kernel and then flashing su binarys from cwm.
I think that method works with U.
No luck!

Thanks for the tip!
But..
I had flashed firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54 to try my luck with that, downloaded the CWM for the unlocked bootloader from here. It was a '.elf' fle, so I followed the steps mentioned here to flash it. I hope these are the correct steps I followed?
I get the output as:
===
07/038/2013 17:38:01 - INFO - FASTBOOT Output:
sending 'boot' (16384 KB)...
FAILED (remote: The Device must be rooted first)
finished. total time: 0.002s
===
:silly:
Once again, I should mention that the phone is detected only when "USB tethering" is enabled.

And you sure your bootloader is unlocked?
If i remeber correctly, I had same problem with my sola. Have you updated flashtools drivers? Located c:\flashtool\drivers. And have you fastboot without flashtool?
Got it done
Thanks a lot for your inputs guys!
In the end, I handed it over to a pal who got it done
The drivers seemed to be the issue, I had installed so many of them, I doubt my violated machine would ever touch an Xperia again
Cheers!

Hello XDA members
2 weeks ago i bought a brand new Neo V and fully updated it from SEUS
1 week ago i started reading your forums [facepalm]
Yesterday i followed a series of tutorials on the Neo V Development forum and i managed to brick my phone [facewall!!!]
What i did :
1) Download lots of stuff!!!
a) .42 ftf file from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19808360&postcount=3
b) flashtool from it's original website
c) DoomKernel's rooting script
d) CWM script from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19733978&postcount=1 (the 1st way)
e) S1tool from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18013064&postcount=44
2) Use them ALL!!!
a) Install and extract where necessary
b) put .42 in C:\flashtool\firmware
c) put everything else in C:\SETools\ to act tidy
3) Feel like McGuyver!
a) used needle & wire to unlock bootloader with s1tool [success]
4) Take the big step!
a) flash .42 firmware with flashtool [all OK]
phone took it's time to reboot, scared me to death! at least 4 full minutes :/
b) use flashtool to root from the Advanced>Root>ZergRush menu [Fail]
it seems flashtool failed after first part.
c) used DoomKernel's script and rooted phone [all OK]
d) reboot and enjoy! [all OK]
.42 firmware was ok, root ok, boot was slow.. other than that everything worked. (except market, could not download anything!)
e) used Upgrade Service from phone menu and found .62 OTA upgrade. [Failed]
phone downloaded the new firmware, i pressed install, that was it.
And thus my Neo V rebooted to complete the upgrade to .62
The upgrade was never completed, the phone never turned on again.
No SE logo, no led, no nothing!
Everytime i press the power button nothing happens, if i keep it pressed for some time the led flashes green every second.
Everytime i connect it to the PC usb it goes to flash mode on it's own, no back key pressed.
When plugged on charger led flashes green every second.
Last thing i tried was to reflash it (since it went on flashmode) with .42 again.
Nothing there
Still, i would like to see it alive once more since 200 euro for a green led is not really a bargain
Any help appreciated!!
Ok if the pc recognizes it you should be able to resurrect it with pccompanion, seus or wotan client
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk
Will try, though phone is not really recognised..
it functions only as when turned off and pressing back button while connecting to pc usb.
EDIT : Installed SEUS again and tried to do an upgrade (only option available through support zone)
Failed first couple of times, then it popped up a new window asking to repair since update is not working.
Asked me phone model and downloading ATM, will report soon
EDIT 2 : Nothing with Pc Companion or SEUS. It reflashed the phone with .62 firmware but the phone is in the same state.
About Wotan Client, i would love to try it but i have no idea how to install it or run it, it asks for credits and i don't think reflashing will help in this case.
wotan flashing is free bro, just download their client and follow steps most probably u will get ur fone back to ur life. best of luck !
Just a thought, the phone acts as if the back button is constantly pressed and i find that VERY weird..
Also, SEUS discovers the phone as "Sony / Sony Ericsson" (?), is it possible that this has to do with the s1tool driver i installed before while unlocking the bootloader?
wow, thats what i call entire history of your phone
anw you experienced OTA brick. because you have unlocked bootloader.
strange, some people get brick some don't, with un-official(s1tool) method.
but with official, everyone get brick.

they werent wrong, but if I think on which tutorial you mean, it says its for people with locked bootloader.
now when you have unlocked bl, your life is easier
you can simply use custom kernel which have root included in itself
go to dev section, you can use galaxian or bbooff kernel.
while you are there check sticky threads to see how to flash kernel.
after you read those, ask if you have any question.

Thank you all SOOOOOO much!!!
Wotan worked, my phone is up and running on .42!!!
So now about tweaking a bit, those kernels support official roms only,
if i wanted to go for something more goodlooking, faster, nicer.. what would you suggest?
No, those kernels arent only for official rom's.
And about custom roms, I'm not the one to talk about it much, as I'm not so much into custom roms dont have enough time to test them.
so you will need to go trough development section and find something you like. remember you can also look in neo section, most of the roms can work on your phone with minor modifications.
also remember, first read then install
So.. i managed to have a working phone and now i am trying to flash galaxian.
i went on cmd, started fastboot with appropriate command and plugged in phone pressing the menu button.
Now in device manager i can see "S1boot Fastboot" and it is not recognised, what am i suppossed to do????
-turn off your phone.
-hold menu key(the right one )
-connect cable
-you should see blue light on led on the side, do you see it?
-go to folder where you have fastboot.exe file
-hold shift key and right-click of mouse anywhere in that folder except on files
-sellect start comandprompt here(or something like that)
- type fastboot devices
-tell if it says something.
Seems like you didn´t install drivers for fastboot...
i thought they are included in adb drivers !?
Well i have installed the whole android sdk with it´s drivers.
As long as it is unrecognized in Windows (no drivers installed) S1Tool has no Chance to detect it

u havent installed the correct drivers, connect the phone again in fastboot mode, go to device manager, select s1tool fastboot, click update driver, browse for it manually and point it to the the folder in which you have fastboot, done.

If you dont want to brick phone with new custom kernel, use ,,hotboot,, function.
That should boot phone with new kernel one time.
If you dont like kernel, just reboot your phone

Hey, thx for your response.
But on my phone are no kind of reaction at the screen. So I can't use the "SW Upgrade"-Mode =/
So if I connect my phone without battery to my PC I hear the USB-Connect sound but the entry in device manager is flapping.
What can it be?
If your phone answer at usb connect when battery is down that is a good sign. Try install omap drivers and flash custom recovery mode again. After u will be able to flash your stock soft again
The OMAP driver are still installed. The entry in device manager appear and 1-2 seconds later it disappear.
Im using Win7 64bit - is this the problem of OMAP?

It shouldn't. Try on diffrent computer, I have problems with connecting my device on mine but on diffrent one it works quite well. I don't know why.
You can also try this and flash recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119090
I have tested connecting to PC at my wifes desktop. The same Problem.
The link you have posted seems to work. I can work an my phone over adb (fastboot). I have rewritten recovery but it doesnt start...
EDIT:
If I want to write the rom or format/erase any partition over fastboot, i get following error, that the partition does not exist

It's most likely hardware problem. Send it for warranty repair, don't mention the bootloader or custom Rom .
That will I make. Anyway thank you so much for your help mate!

hello everyone,
i know that this have been probably covered, im searching for days, but i cant find any, it probably buried somewhere. i apologized to the admin, but i really want to solve this problem, i really really need my phone. tnx for your consideration
first thing first, i want you to know that I'm a noob in rooting and its my first post. my phone is sonyericsson xperia mini st15i with IMEI:0Mod Edit: please don't give out your IMEI number on a public forum) and im from philippines using Smart as my service provider, it is a prepaid account.
i followed this steps using instruction from this site "http://xperiahtcrootingrom.com/how-to-root-xperia-mini-st15i-sony/"
I think i brick my xperia mini, it keeps on restartting over and over again, heres the story,
*first i performed the downgrade to Xperia Mini (ST15i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_CE.ftf gingerbread using guide from "http://xperiahtcrootingrom.com/how-to-root-xperia-mini-st15i-sony/", and it worked and i was able to root it.
*second i performed step 3 of the said guide up to step where you execute “01-local-prop” , then i realized the the firmware i got “4.0.4 firmware” is not appearing in my choices, so i figure its not the right rom, i unplug the usb and restart the phone, then the problem starts, it keeps on restarting over and over, i tried to flash it again to Xperia Mini (ST15i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_CE.ftf but it doesnt work because it keeps on restarting, pls help, it my first time doing root, i know it’s a learning process, i hope you can help me. tnx very much. hope to hear from you soon.
i know that there are same problems with other devices, ive tried to search for it, it does have the same problems but its a different handset, i believed that there are different ways to root for every handset. tnx again, i hope to hear from you guys soon.

Make sure your phone has a good % of battery left
1) Power off the phone.
2) Start flashtool
3) Click on the Lighting Symbol and Select Flashmode and click OK.
4) Select Appropriate Firmware and Tick Wipe User Data and Wipe Cache check box if visible and click OK. If visible click even exclude TA
PS: The appropriate firmware is a stock firmware for your device. For example the GB rom you downloaded for the downgrade and already placed in the flashtool/firmwares folder
5) click ok and follow the on-screen indications
6) when it asks to plug your device in flashmode, plug the cable in the mobile keeping the Volume DOWN button pushed down.

Hey Guys,
Really hoping someone can help me out here. I've been trying to root a friend's Xperia U for the past 3 days now, without much luck!
Its on ICS, Firmware ST25a 6.1.1.B.1.10, unlocked bootloader. The two methods are Bin4ry's script and using FlashTool .For starters, USB debugging is enabled.

Thoughts? I want this baby rooted and CWM'ed!

Hi everyone and sorry for my bad english i'm Italian i have a big problem with a P20 lite that won't boot up. When i power on the device he got stuck on brand screen (TIM branded) and if i try to shut it down the phone starts a rebooting in the same screen and got stuck in TIM screen another time. I tryed to enter in recovery in many ways, even with USB and ADB, but the only response i have is with buttons and is a totally green screen with a blue square in top and red one in bottom of the screen with this green background, i can only go in Huawei download mode and use ADB tools, i can't even use the official HiSuite application like the Huawei download mode suggest me because i can't activate developers options. The good fact and the only road to work i guess is that i can use the ADB tools but even if i try to enter in recovery typing "fastboot reboot recovery" the board give me "not allowed" if i try to reflesh system or any stock img he don't allow me to do anything except mormal reboot and device COM address with the check devices command. The bootloader is clearily locked and with some research i found that the only way to unlock the bootloader on this devices is trust to unlocking services with credits like "DC Phoneix, Chimera etc." but my doubt now is.. if i'm ain't able to power on and go in menu and information of the phone to get needed infos like serial and others and sharing this with services to let the procedure work, how i can do? OR the services like this is total automatic i only got to pay and go even with a total unaccessible phone? I have Chimera and i achieved to extract the stock img and UPDATE.APP to this phone but i'm unable (like i say) to flashing everything i can do anything else with Chimera? Or anything else with other methods? I also buyed the MTK dongle i wish to try it. The phone is totally stock not rooted, never unlocked. Sorry for my bad english the last time and thanks for reading. If some point or question it's not clear i'm here to explain better my doubt.

It isn't download mode, simply fastboot mode. Bricked by itself? Bro, I also had this problem with the green screen, it happened after rebranding, after flashing wrong oeminfo and wrong FW .* But with the unlocked BL it was not a problem. Okay, it doesn't matter...
In fastboot mode run this command:
fastboot oem get-build-number
tell me result, please.

it's my friend's smartphone actually the sister's smartphone, they don't understand nothing and are not interested about modding or things like that they are the kind of people that use the phone only for normal use. That's because i'm pretty sure this telephone is not touched for "strange" modding, rooting, etc. I don't known if my friend sis' have a geek/Android nerd friend or boyfriend at college but i don't think, i don't known and have no interest to known that  anyway thanks for help i'm waiting you

So, it's possible unbrick this phone online with TeamViewer on PC using paid service ministryofsolution.com .
And need to open back cover of your phone (due to a test-point method). IMO the best solution. Or you can try DC-Phoenix for 19euros, but you have to do everything manually, without experience it's a risk...
