Hi!
I am rooted, and was running Android Revolution HD 13.
Tried to install KitKat 4.4 and the status was aborted. I saved a back up in recovery. I entered a boot loop once I restarted the phone. I thought, "No problem! I'll just get into my recovery!" But every time I hold the Vol Down + Power button, nothing happens. It simply shows, "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" and the developer disclaimer at the bottom. Any ideas?

When your at the HTC boot screen hold the power button and both volume buttons.... You'll see your button lights flash like 10-15 times and then it will force shut down your phone. Once it's completely off try booting into recovery again.

holding the power button for 10-15 seconds will shut the phone off
try holding it under a bright light ..the proximity sensor can keep the phone from shutting down if the room is not well lite

So are you thinking theirs some other miracle answer to your question ?
it's a fact that holding down the power button plus vol down till you see the blinking lights (around 10 seconds)
then let off the volume it will shut off, just keep trying.

I think it may be the vol down button to be honest. It is odd. I have never experienced an issue like this before.

Had a similar problem once. Let the battery run completely dry, then charged it back up and got into recovery from a power up.

Every once in a while this "download mode" comes up. I had left my phone in my room and it died while i went quickly to the neighbors. When I came back, I found my phone in this download mode. Ive seen it before and I get to it randomly. Any insight?
When you turn on your phone by holding the vol+/- and power with the USB plugged in, this is what shows up. So I'm guessing that's what's happening.. I'm not sure. Wait for an expert on the subject.

heres the thing. My phone was completely untouched and the charger was not plugged in. Its a totally different download mode.
So, I've seen this particular download mode come up when I go into download using the adb reboot download command. The volume up-down method brings up the download mode with the number of flashes and the other warnings. Not sure what the difference is.

Is it a stock ROM or you have any other ROMs and a custom kernel? AFAIK, The only way to enter download mode other than the physical key combination is to let the kernel know before it is rebooting - like 'adb reboot download' and using some custom options found in other ROMS..
Sorry, i have Serendipity 8 and kernel is Entropy. Ive experienced the same on UnNamed as well. Not a big deal. Its just a pain having to pull the battery because its a tad hard to remove it from the case.

I think you don't need to pull the battery out. Keep pressing the power button until the phone switches off. Again press the power button so that the phone boots again..
I tried that with no luck lol

This does work to reboot the phone without pulling the battery. You can also hold the power button until you see the first boot logo.
I have no problem rebooting from download mode by holding the power button. Usually takes about 10-15 seconds to work.

So my Xperia S just now completely froze up while playing 9mm.
Touchscreen and hardware buttons are all unresponsive, holding down the power button does nothing and since my battery is near full and my brightness maxed I'm worried about damaging the screen by just letting it run out of juice. Strangely the game is still running, just nothing works.
I looked for a physical reset button but its nowhere to be found..
How can I reset my phone?
Edit: Allright so after about 20 minutes or so the phone magically became responsive again and is functioning normally for as far as I can tell.
Nevertheless, I'd still like to know how to reset it should a need for it arise in the future.
Try this:
hold standby and volume up for five seconds and the phone will reboot.

Thank you!
Press on standby button and volume up button at the same time really works to reset the phone!! Cool~~!
Worked fine with me...
Thx for the post and the helpful answers.
It worked well with my SXS.
Pressing the button combination actually turns off the phone; you then can turn it on/ reboot it normally.
Thx a lot, M.

When my phone freezes (it happens more than once after the last firmware upgrade) I presso power button and volume up to reboot.
Pressing both volume buttons together is a BAD idea!

According to Sony, holding the vol up and down buttons together and pressing power until you get 3 vibes is the same as removing the battery.
Usually it takes about 10 secs first a single vibe and then about 5 secs later 3 vibes, but under some circumstances it can take up to 20 seconds on my phone at least.

Have need help , please help me, I can't reset my phone .
We have a 32gb Touchpad that essentially is my 5 yr old's. It has been running CM7 fine (dual boots that and WebOS) since he got it at Christmas. He handed it to me this morning after taking if off the Touchstone and it had the message "Please release keys..." and keeping the power button pressed down for eternity does nothing (I've rebooted if the Touchpad has gotten frozen before or if the touchpad didn't recognize touch on the screen).
Please help, I have no clue what to do. I googled the problem and it seems people have this happen when they install CM, but mine's been running fine for months and this is spontaneous.
You have to press both the power button and the home button together for about 15-20 seconds.

Thanks, I did try that, but it goes to a black screen, flashes the HP logo for a split second than goes back to the "Please release key(s)...." message. I did this 5 times, so it just seems to cycle
I had this issue once. What I did was press-and-old Power and Vol-Up, then repeatedly hit the Home button. Takes about 10-11 tries (do it really fast - should only take a couple seconds). Then screen will go completely black. Press and hold then just power-home, and it should come back up. As soon as the backlight starts to come up, release the buttons, though.

I rooted and flashed custom ROM to my HTC Jetstream. I installed the custom ROM via CWM by Doomlord. When my device went to reboot it tried booting once then the screen went black. The power is turned on. The orange light comes on by the power button. Then goes off. It is fully charged. And when I hit the power button the LED light flashes.
press and hold for 30 seconds or so.
if that won't do, hold vol down and power 2gether

So, ever since i updated to a 4.4 rom ive been having some boot loop issues. In the past i just had to plug the phone in and itd boot right up. But today it seems to have gotten into a pickle.
About every 7 or so seconds it reboots itself back to the white HTC splash screen. I can get into fastboot, but after a few seconds it reboots again, and i cant get into recovery at all because its rebooting so fast.
Any ideas on how to fix it, and any ideas on how to prevent it from happening in the future

Is it possible without those few seconds to some how get it to reset.. If not there really isn't anything you can do. You'll half to take your phone for a replacement.
Only other thing your can try is to fastboot a RUU

Thanks, I didn't realize that the bootloader was rebooting as well. Sounds like he's got hardware issues.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me as well. You have a warranty? Otherwise you could try taking it apart and see if the battery has a bad connection or something. I have a feeling it's the soc or something like that though. I feel like the fact that it's happening since you updated to 4.4 is probably a coincidence.

So, i feel that it may be my power button going bad in some way. Because before it goes into the bootloop the 3 hardware buttons flash, as if the power button is being held down, and ive found that to get out of the bootloop i can just 'pump' the power button

Sorry misunderstood
Do you think, maybe, the power button is bad. I've seen a few reports of this.
Sounds to me like it's stuck, pressed. That would cause the repeated reboots, lights flashing, etc.
Edit-- I see you already suspect this is the problem. Never mind...
Well, i flashed back to a 4.3 sense rom yesterday and havent experienced the bootlooping issues since. For reference, before i switched back it got to the point that it was doing it twice an hour
So hopefully it is a software issue and not a hardware issue(knock on wood), id rather not go through the hassle of paying my deductible and getting a new phone
