We have a 32gb Touchpad that essentially is my 5 yr old's. It has been running CM7 fine (dual boots that and WebOS) since he got it at Christmas. He handed it to me this morning after taking if off the Touchstone and it had the message "Please release keys..." and keeping the power button pressed down for eternity does nothing (I've rebooted if the Touchpad has gotten frozen before or if the touchpad didn't recognize touch on the screen).
Please help, I have no clue what to do. I googled the problem and it seems people have this happen when they install CM, but mine's been running fine for months and this is spontaneous.
You have to press both the power button and the home button together for about 15-20 seconds.

Thanks, I did try that, but it goes to a black screen, flashes the HP logo for a split second than goes back to the "Please release key(s)...." message. I did this 5 times, so it just seems to cycle
I had this issue once. What I did was press-and-old Power and Vol-Up, then repeatedly hit the Home button. Takes about 10-11 tries (do it really fast - should only take a couple seconds). Then screen will go completely black. Press and hold then just power-home, and it should come back up. As soon as the backlight starts to come up, release the buttons, though.

Tried, it does the same thing, flashes the HP logo for a split second and then back to the 'Please release key(s)...' message. I can't get it to do anything but go through the black screen, split second of hp logo and then back to the message Thank you for trying to help!
Any other ideas? I am keeping it charged on the Touchstone but still stuck on this screen
Please release key(s)...

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Although it doesn't seem to be stuck. I am able to press it when trying to reset the device.
No, but it can be independently verified quite easily. So that is it 100%

Hi guys,
I've installed CM7 following the tutorial given on Touchpad Development forum.
Everything was working quite good (gapps, etc.) and I've been able to use CM during hours.
But since this afternoon, I'm not again able to turn my Touchpad on.
I've tried :
- power
- hold power
- hold power + home button
- hold power + home button + volume up
And nothing has worked.
Is there a physical way for resetting the device ?
Have you got any idea ?
I feel so unhappy because of this.
Thanks in advance for your help or ideas !
well... the Touchpad just turned ion !
Thanks God...
But I still don't know why I was unable to turn it on during hours... strange strange strange ! It just booted on with 40% of battery.
Let me guess. It was in a touchstone?

Mine is doing the same thing right now. Been using CM since this morning, set it down for a hour now and it wont turn on. I didnt even turn it off, battery was fine too.
edit...found a thread at rootzwiki and its easy fix. Hold Poer and Home for 15 seconds or so and it will fire right up!!!
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?7913-SOLVED-Touchpad-shut-off-and-I-can-t-get-it-back-on!
From what I can tell the touchstone does not work with android. If the unit freezes hold home and power 15 sec

Indeed, it was !
But I already said that power+home didn't worked for me.
The same thing happens again right now. My Touchpad can't boot.
Though I don't know if installing alpha 2.1 can do this but a day after I installed cyanogenmod 2.1 the touch pad vibrated then shutoff. Now I can not turn it back on. I've tried recharging it but it still doesn't turn on and I notice that the back of the touchpad was getting warmer the longer I leave it plugged in. If I had to guess it might be a problem with the battery. But has anyone else had this issue?
So holding home+power for ~30 seconds doesn't reboot it?

Try this for sure. Hold it longer if it still doesn't boot just in case.
Hey, Holding the home+power longer actually worked. Can any one tell me what the heck happened to it? sound like the sleep of death thing that people are talking about with the alpha 2.1

It is very intermittent thing with alpha 2.1 and seems to be a device by device thing. I have personally only had it once with alpha 2.1 installed.

Is not the proper way to reboot a touchpad in case of troubleshooting > hold down power button and press home button 10 times? Works for me every time.

Never heard of that way...
I just have freaked out when today my touchpad didn't give any symptoms of life!
HOME+POWER 10SEC = back to life!
Need some serious assistance. Was playing with my dogs just a bit ago and decided to record it. So I go to the camera and switch to camcorder and the screen just turns green and the flash comes on and basically it's stuck. Ok so I go to settings and force stop the camera. Try to start it up and it just says unable to start camera. Ok so I guess I'll just restart the phone. Go to restart get to the white htc screen and the flash is still on. hangs there for quite awhile so I start hitting buttons. Screen goes black so I hold the power button again. Capacitative lights just flash. So now the phone won't power on no matter what I do the capacitive lights just flash at me. Any suggestions?
try holding power for like twenty seconds to reboot it.. it's like pulling the battery out. The capacitive light flash apparently means it's signaling to you that it's about to do a full reset.

Will give it a shot. My first phone with non removable battery.
Seems to have worked thanks a ton. Kinda worries me that the camcorder freaked it out like that though.

Sorry to hear this, try this. Plug in the charger, hold the power button. Release power button, hold it down again all with the charger in. I had some sort of soft brick messing with custom roms. It would not power on till i tried with the charger plug connected. I was spooked and thought it bricked.
Let me know how you get on. If that fails, RMA time

jayochs advice fixed it. Kinda freaked me out. May return it anyway as this isn't the first time the camera has caused some goofiness with the phone. Not rooted still 100% stock.
So this just happened to my nexus 10.
I have no idea what it is. And it isn't going away. It says to not turn it off or else I would've already tried to reboot. Help please! Thanks in advance.
My Nexus 10 is better than your tablet. Hah.
Also I am not rooted. Stock everything.
Here is a better photo of it.

I thought maybe it was a navigable recovery... So i accidentally pressed the power button. Won't boot now. Guess I'll be sending back to Google...

It looks like the bootloader, which is accessed by holding the volume buttons and power on boot. See the arrow that says Start pointing to the power button...you press it and it boots. It should not have bricked just by exiting it should reboot.

Idk what's up with mine then... It's won't boot. Put on the charger for a bit and still nothing.
Edit: I just held down volume and power for about 15 sec and it vibrated and rebooted! Problem solved although I wish I knew what the problem was.

There was no "real" problem, you somehow just managed to enter download mode by (accidentally?) pressing the power and volume down buttons at the same time while the device was powered off. If it happens again, don't panic, just press and hold the power button until you see the Google logo.

Hi!
I am rooted, and was running Android Revolution HD 13.
Tried to install KitKat 4.4 and the status was aborted. I saved a back up in recovery. I entered a boot loop once I restarted the phone. I thought, "No problem! I'll just get into my recovery!" But every time I hold the Vol Down + Power button, nothing happens. It simply shows, "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" and the developer disclaimer at the bottom. Any ideas?

When your at the HTC boot screen hold the power button and both volume buttons.... You'll see your button lights flash like 10-15 times and then it will force shut down your phone. Once it's completely off try booting into recovery again.

holding the power button for 10-15 seconds will shut the phone off
try holding it under a bright light ..the proximity sensor can keep the phone from shutting down if the room is not well lite

So are you thinking theirs some other miracle answer to your question ?
it's a fact that holding down the power button plus vol down till you see the blinking lights (around 10 seconds)
then let off the volume it will shut off, just keep trying.

I think it may be the vol down button to be honest. It is odd. I have never experienced an issue like this before.

Had a similar problem once. Let the battery run completely dry, then charged it back up and got into recovery from a power up.
