[Q] HELP! Phone will not turn on, even when plugged in. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Samsung Galaxy SII SGH-i777
OMNI 4.4 Nightly
I've been having charging problems ever since installing this ROM. When I plugged it in before, it would show a battery with a question mark. The phone eventually died and it won't boot up. I am not really sure what else to put but just ask and I'll answer.

yeah, that's a weird bug with OMNI right now -The phone isn't really OFF when it's off. It shows the questionmark and gets very hot, and it won't boot while it's plugged in. I have submitted a jira report, which just got downgraded to minor. You have to unpplug the phone from any usb charger or port and hope that it has enough juice to boot. Then leave it charging while it's ON.
I'm not sure how to recover from a dead battery in this case, unless the battery-out download-mode thing works? give me fifteen minutes and I'll try it...

sorry @jmsato,
if your battery really is too low to boot the phone, then the only option I'm aware of is to ODIN it to stock and start over.
1)remove the battery
2)plug the phone into a pc usb port
3)hold vol+ & vol- & power until the warning appears
maybe someone else knows some trick way to charge a battery out of the phone.

[Q] Think I Bricked

I totally think I brick my Venue. Here's what happened, I pushed the - volume(down volume) and then the power. I got a nice little list of options. I then push the download SD option, out of curiosity, and then it started to do a factory reset.
Obviously I didn't want this, but It started to shutdown the phone. I thought hell I'll have to put everything back on the phone, but the phone never came back on.
You can see the power come on at the bottom when the buttons light up, but nothing not even the dell screen.
I can't even push the two volumes and power button to boot, or the down volume and power to boot. Any Ideas?
Ok since no one wants to reply to this thread I will.... After looking a little further on this site I found a thread that someone removed the apps that were installed on the SD card and then their phone booted just fine. I didn't have a chance to try this as Dell had my replacement phone delivered to me within two days.
Hi, I have the same problem here, I think my phone is bricked. The phone won't start and Dell logo loops when I boot the phone, nothing else happens.
So can someone tell me what I can do from here to get it boot again? I can't seem to get the update.pnk to the memory stick and try run it from there. What can I do ???
help
1st thread does it boot at all?
2nd guy sounds like you can adb to fix it. i did the same thing messing with the boot.ini

just reread yours David,
you hard bricked it, i did that to my vibrant 4g/sgs4g. i had to send it in to be reflashed with a jtag sodderless machine. i found one online for $30 that included return shipping!!!
Hello,
Have the same problem, and yes, I'm curious. So I have the same problem. And what I have achieved. So if I plug usb cable and power with volume down, I can load the system. And all working but battery indicator with question and no indication of charging. I try to calibrate battery with no result. May be some one know what can I do with battery?

It is likely that you plug/unplug your USB cable quite frequently -> the device thinks that there are problems with your power supply and to save the battery's life the device stopped charging.
I think you can remove the battery, then insert it again + attempt to recharge. Please try!
hi everyone, I have the same scenario with the first..and now it won't boot...the dell logo doesn't show up....please help....thanks

[Q] [GalnetMIUI] Phone switches on when on USB charge + USB debugging is OFF

Hi,
So I installed GalnetMIUI yesterday after trying a few other ROMs (about 5 other ones). I settled on GalnetMIUI in the end.
However, now I can't seem to be able to charge it with the phone off when USB debugging is OFF. Every time I switch the phone off, everything goes fine, but if the phone is plugged in (whether its the charger or USB charging), or you plug it in after it switches off, it switches itself back on for no reason.
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks!
Anyone have any answers? :/
Um, Galnet forums ? Just a suggestion

I found the galnet forum unusable, I signed up but then couldn't access anything, if you click on forum i just get an empty page. If I click on a recent post and try to drill down to to the base forum for SGS2 I get a blank page. I have also tried to sign up to mui twice, i just dont get a confirmation email. Just wish we could get Galnet back on XDA so we can get some decent support but I hear Galnet have been naughty.

I had a similar problem, I burnt my down to zero charge by accident, when I plugged it into the wall (not a PC) it wouldnt charge, it would only charge from a USB into my PC. Havent tried it again since I updated to most recent ICS though.
I am a bug fan off this ROM though, good battery life.
It's an known CM7 bug. When you have USB debugging OFF, your phone will automatically boot if you connect it to the charger or your PC's USB port. It persists on CM7, MIUI and GalnetMIUI as well (AOSP based). You've got to live with it, or just turn the USB debugging ON if you want to off-charge.
Bummer, thanks for the answer! :/

Galaxy S2 died

I have read the similar threads, unfortunately they do not seem to help.
Relevant information:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 9 2nd June 2012 Nightly
Kernel: Siyah 3.2.8
What happened: I was playing Rage of Bahamut (a game, nothing too intensive) when my screen appeared to dim and get stuck on the current image. I could press the home button and the screen will turn off, pressing home button 4 times triggered the inverted colors mode but I could not get to the homescreen itself, so I turned off the phone. When I tried to turn it on again it won't turn on.
What I tried:
Swapping out with a full battery - Doesn't work
Booting with USB Jig - Doesn't work
Plugging in to PC to see if USB is recognized - Doesn't work
Trying Recovery and Download key combinations - Doesn't work
I'm utterly at a loss as my phone appeared to be working fine, and from what I read the SGS2 is unbrickable. However I have been reading on the Siyah thread that 3.2.8 has a lot of issues and I really hope that I'm not experiencing another hard brick like what happened with Siyah 3.2.1RC6 (IIRC).
Thanks for reading! Hope someone has a suggestion.
Note: Interestingly, when I plug in the charging cable after a while the back of the phone gets warm; However still nothing happens when I attempt to turn it on. No response, no vibration, no soft key lights no nothing.
Service center (JTAG repairer might well say unfixable). No signs of life, no download mode, no jig. Dead phone.

I was kinda resigned to that. Just hoping one of you guys might have an obscure method to bring the phone back to life.
Thanks for your kind reply!
U cant turn the phone on, your pc doesnt recognize it, you cant go into recovery or download mode, you cant use USB jig. Oh boy, you're in deep trouble. Maybe the charge of the phone might be finished? U sure the other battery you placed was fully charged? I have never seen someone whose phone doesn't turn on at all, and even the pc doesnt recognize!

Dude, i dont even think this is a problem related to the software. I think its probably the hardware. Maybe the battery case has some defect? You should go see an expert for this.

Indeed I suspect it's hardware also. The strange thing is, I took the battery out to charge it in an external charger, and left the phone battery-less while I slept. When I woke up, I put the battery in and tried to turn on the phone. No luck. Strange thing was that after a while the phone felt warm.

I see that the phone is powered off, and plugged into a charger. Unfortunately that is a known bug of OMNI on this phone, and I am not aware of a solution beyond avoiding this condition. The phone will boot fine once you unplug the charger. leaving it plugged in may discharge the battery completely. The quickest way to charge this device on OMNI is to plug it in while booted into recovery.
What firmware are you running? what have you tried?

So you bought a battery. Was it new? Are you able to verify that is has sufficient charge? Have you tried an external charger? Have you tried to enter download mode? (to allow the pfone to be powered by the usb-port)
I ended up having to bring the phone back to the store to have them replace the battery. I read somewhere that the Galaxy S2 phones can only charge once the phone is on. However, the battery must have enough power to turn the phone on before it can charge, If you completely drain the battery, it won't start so you can't charge the phone. It is an endless cycle of stupid. I purchased an external charger on Ebay so I can avoid the situation entirely.

when i put the phone to charging, it have 10% of battery, but phone turned off and i get same problem as in the video.
I take the battery of my friend, he also have an i777, but don't have this problems with charging.
And another problem was that i left phone in stand by 7-8 hours with 70% of battery and when i check it in the morning it was dead. All apps was closed.

[Q] S2 Not getting turned on

My phone got turned of suddenly while i was on a call and its not getting turned on . I thought it might be the battery and kept it for charging. And tried after 2~3 hours, but still the same. Its not showing any charging animation ( with the battery icon ) while i kept it for charging. I tried to plug nd unplug the phone so that it shows that animation , but it doesnt show up.
I searched in forum and did soft reset and hard reset ( removing battery and hold the ON button for 10 seconds and insert battery again and try). Even that didnt work out.
Does anybody have any idea on what might be wrong?

Try USB JIG?
It will force you to go download mode. Head over here to check out about usb jig. You can make your own self too. If let's say you're able to go to download mode. Then flash stock firmware.
Try to find somebody else with an S2 and see if you can borrow their battery. If your phone starts, then your issue is with the usb port itself........
From your description it's either this or the battery has suddenly failed, battery failures are *extremely* rare.......
New software is NOT NEEDED in either case.....

Also, if you *can* get hold of a second S2, see if your battery charges in that one......that would help to confirm or rule out any problems with the battery.......
