Hey there, instead of waiting on the t-mobile version of froyo i thought about flashing my vibrant to the i9000 version (i use it in europe anyway - so i wanted to ask here if that is possible and how? I am a little confused with the different versions, roms, kernels, firmwares etc... somebody can guide in the right direction?
Sorry if thats been asked before - didnt found something useful with a quick search

Old post, but I am also wondering the same...
Samsung Captivate has xcaliburinhand's I9000 reoriented kernel, that can correct home-button, screen orientation issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808286
In other word, captivate can Odin flash any Samsung I9000 firmware + the patch and the phone will work without any issue.
How about Vibrant?

We obviously can't. You would potential hard brick your phone if you try such a thing or might get lucky and get a soft one instead.
the vibrant can do this same lol. There are multiple roms i can go and download right now off the i900 forum with no problems. just have to use the right tkernels
all it takes is research.. i havnt done it in while but i used to use dead horse kernel from eugene.. it worked with the i9000 roms.. but there were some things that need to be tweaked.

I really prefer official i9000 firmware instead of custom ROM.
( I am with T-mobile, but I got Captivate only because I want to try all official i9000 firmware including newest 2.3.3. )
I hope we get some genius can do the same in Vibrant forum.
You have to be careful when you say firmware. You CAN flash an i9k rom ONLY if it's a cwm format one (because that I know of, they'll be labeled if they come with an sbl).
As for Odin roms, unless you look at what is contained on the .tar file before flashing and replacing necessary files, then yes. But most people don't check anything before flashing and therefore mess up their rom and then ask for help.

Thanks for correction. Must have been w/ moto bit too long.
But the fact remain... Vibrant forum does not have a "magic-fix" for people just want to flash official i9000 to their phone.
Hm...
Can I flash only a SGS I9000 modem? What do I need to tweak/change to do this if it's even possible?
Because I've really ran out of options to make my T-Mo Vibrant run with european SIM cards in Europe, and that's my last hope.

There is no SGS-I9000, it is a GT-I9000 and I would say unless you are on an GT-I9000 rom then you can't flash a I9000 modem. I could be wrong but that's my educated guess.
lol i know, but ain't SGS short for Samsung Galaxy S
Anyway, I literally did every guide in the forums to make it work with european SIM (and no, the phone isn't locked... just doesn't detect any network), so flashing an I9000 firmware? No problem. Gonna try it this week to see if it works.
Well I am using it in Europe with no problem, the signal maybe a bit weak but still it probably the network. Maybe its just not unlocked properly, idk just guessing.

Anyone over here crack the new bootloader? If yes please port or provide the info to a skyrocket dev. Our devices were released with the new bootloader so the jig no longer works on the SR. From what I can tell the new load for the GSII has not been released or pushed out yet but it will be...
We had older bootloaders to go back to. Unfortunately the skyrocket shipped with the newer bootloaders.
Try following the write up by creepyncrawly on how to flash without tripping the flash counter. Just make sure you can restore your phone if it messes it up as it's not been tested on the skyrocket to the best of my knowledge.

Wouldn't be able to use my guide unless someone over there created a package like Entropy512's stock plus root, but for the Skyrocket.
On the other hand, might be able to root and flash with the new tools that are out. Not sure if all of them support the Skyrocket though.
Someone did make a secondary bootloader that would allow erasing the counter if installed after someone accidentally flashed the KJ4 bootloader(the new one) which blocked the jig reset. It's somewhere in the android development forum.

That is for the SGH-I777. It's the original secondary bootloader from UCKH7, the original stock rom. That WILL NOT work on the Snapdragon. Different processor, different firmware.

That's what I was thinking, them inputting their own rom.
Excellent point on flashing with the new tools. If mobile Odin works for their phones it'd be just what they're looking for.
Edit: just checked, no option for skyrocket users yet.

no we have root but there are still some procs that trip the counter without warning. I know this is low level software otherwise it would clear with a super one click but there still needs to be a way to clear this counter.
BTW the new tools do not work with our 2.3.6 load. it appears they wanted to fix (and did) the zergrush exploit. None of the other exploits work either. In order to get root, you either have to run 2.3.5. at that point you can OTA to 2.3.6 and not loose root. SOmeone also built a flashable 2.3.6 ZIP file.

As in, taking our "jig-uncrippled" SBL and trying to flash it on a Skyrocket will most likely hardbrick the device.
It's just another reason not to buy that abomination.
Seriously, please stop asking for Skyrocket help here. NOTHING that applies to this device applies to the Skyrocket except *possibly* maybe some of the screen tuning parameters.

No seriously YOU re-read the request. It was for a crack of code on the GSII. The abomination as you put it is the ATT GSII and not the SkyRocket but is there really a need to debate that?
With comments like this from recognized developers I loose more faith in XDA every day. I "thought" doing such things was the whole point of XDA, guess I was wrong.

My wife and I. She ordered one for me for a v day gift.
Dev will be slow at first so if this is a first android for anyone, be patient and help however you can. We don't have a device so no CWM or custom kernels yet. Once we do things will start rolling.
<insert witty signature here>
First android noob here. Will have mine Friday. What can be done to help? Or just keep an eye out for talented devs on these boards and do whatever they say?
This isn't development - when a dump actually takes place, a thread can be placed in Development, not before.

Unfortunatly, I didn't have any luck with this method.
I installed adb drivers from the windows version of Samsung Kies. (You can download it here)
Adb connects, files are pushed, but for some reason, no root.
Tried with Superoneclick as well and same no luck.
I am still going go try tomorrow.

Didn't work for me either and it even messed up my phone. Can't access my internal storage from PC now! Tried restart on phone but still didn't work. The computer doesn't even detect it. But one thing i haven't tried is to restart the computer (didn't have time) so not sure if it's the phone or the PC.

Don't post system dumps from other carriers/countries in AT&T Note forum. Despite what you think - it's not the same. It may have the same hardware, but software wise those are very different firmwares and attempting to flash cooked roms from another carrier "will* cause problems.
- Telus version has worknig NFC, AT&T Note has it disabled in the firmware
- LTE has 16 bands and the ones, used and enabled from Telus are not the same as the AT&T version
- AT&T Note has embedded software configuration settings for voice GSM, data HSPA+, LTE networks, voicemail, etc'. All those are very different from Telus and there is no telling how easy it'd be to manually restore all those AT&T settings to assure fully functional operation of all radios
- AT&T Note has a lot of bloatware, Telus has less and different stuff
- Each carriers has customized their firmware according to their security needs. Protection may not be the same, and bootloader & radios firmwares may not be the same on AT&T and Telus.
List goes on. It's a bad idea to post here system dump from another carrier & country.
That doesn't mean the Telus dump won't be useful, and despite the AT&T in the title of the forum, this is also the forum for his device (forum name should really be I717, imo). Go ahead and post the dump if you can; just make sure it's clear that it's a Telus and not an AT&T dump.

Well not really. The system dump will definitely help with development of the ATT Note. Im was running Rogers based roms on both of my skyrockets. No ATT bloat and NFC enabled. Having the system dump will help devs build a compatible rom for the ATT note as well. And pretty much everything you listed as being different was built into the roms I had on both skyrockets. Only thing that had to be done was APN settings
Judging by your signature you have a serious problem, my friend. I think you may require rehab, or at least an intervention. I have a friend in FA (flashaholics anonymous) who can help get you started.

Try different modems (If your phone isn't rooted, I suggest you do so to make this easy). Could also easily be a carrier-side issue as it is more than half the time (even tho people automatically assume it's a phone-side problem).

Okay so should root my phone and try different modems?
I never had that problem before and now suddenly it comes and goes.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9305 met Tapatalk
If you're absolutely sure it isn't a carrier/network issue, yeah. That's what I do if my connectivity was dropping out like that. Try modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier first. If none of those work, try modems bundled with stock roms released by other carriers in your country. And if you're still having problems after trying those, test any other modem you can get your hands on (there are dozens).
I'd be surprised if one bundled with a stock rom your carrier released doesn't help tho, you'd expect your carrier to fully test roms when they release them, and hope they've ensured the modem bundled with the rom would work for most people using their network most of the time & in most places they have coverage.
Edit - Reason I suggested you root your phone to do this is, it's much easier to flash CWM flashable modems via CWRecovery than it is to flash them via Odin, especially if you end up needing to test a bunch of them. You don't absolutely have to root your phone to do this, but yeah, it could save you a bunch of time potentially.
Extra edit - Might want to also try a clean install of stock if trying modems doesn't work.

An app that will work to do what? No one is talking about any apps here. A modem is not an app. As MistahBungle posted above, a modem is a file which is flashable in CWM or via Odin. Nothing to do with an app doing anything.
With the update to 4.1.2, it seems that the Australian version has the bottom icons locked. You can't change them. I've researched this and its only in Australia.... I was pretty pissed off with this, but I thought I could get used to it. Well, I can't.
So being the noob that I am, I thought simply rooting the device would allow me to solve this issue, but it doesn't seem to be that simple.
What I want to do with this phone is to unlock the bottom icons, and get rid of all carrier related stuff (boot animations, apps, etc.). Ideally I want to run pure android 4.1.2, as I'm not a fan of touchwiz, but I tried looking and I couldn't find anything, which is probably down to me being a noob. I wouldn't have a clue how to install it properly either.
So it's a Galaxy S2 I900T
The phone is on Telstra
It has been rooted
It's running stock 4.1.2
If there is anymore info you need to know in order to help me, just let me know and I'll add it.
Thanks in advance!
Well...... You could just run a custom launcher. Search for Nova launcher on the play store. It's the one I use, it's customisable to just about whatever you want.
If you're rooted and do actually want to run stock android instead of just changing the launcher, then look for the index of ROMs in the s2 section. I think GaboWinter is the OP. Look under the AOSP section in there for the stock android ones.
Quick tip, if you do flash a rom you'll have to flash an i9100"t" specific modem or your coverage will be dismal.
Ps. Is it really just the Australian version that can't change the dock icons. How rubbish.

if you want pure android, you'll probably be unable to find 4.1 since it's obsolete in aosp and I'd advise you to go with either 4.2 or even 4.3, as 4.2 especially is highly stable.
also, the guy above me is mistaken about modems, the stock i9100 modems work fine on the t variant, just depends on your carrier which ones you want to use.
to install a rom just flash a recovery image from odin (e.g. Dorimanx or PhilZ) and then copy the necessary zips to your sd, boot to recovery, and flash them
remember to back up your data first though

Just to clarify.... "the guy above you" owns an i9100 and maintains a friend's i9100T. If you mean the international i9100 modem is able to be flashed on an i9100T, I agree. I've done it. I know you also own "T" variant.
What happens in my case is that the data speeds are so dismal you'd be better off using an encyclopaedia than googling something (literally 2Kb/s in some areas. Flashing a "T" specific modem sees the speed jump to 250-300Kb/s or so in the same spot). I'm guessing by your post you have better success than that with i9100 modems on a "t" variant.
