hello to all. I bought htc desire 500. even if I set without energy saving, standby with wifi ever, all the time when I turn off the screen after a few minutes the wifi goes into standby and I can not get push notifications. is there a way to change some registry key to avoid this problem? I know someone advise?

The short answer is that this is not possible - WiFi is such a drain on the battery that it would run flat in aboit 2 hours if allowed to stay on.
The only workaround would be to keep the device connected to mains power, then disable all power saving; you may get away with using a screen blanking utility and then disabling power saving, but our previois tests suggest that even blanking the screen tutns WiFi off.
For reliable VOIP receiving, you should be using the 3G data connection.

I just bought a Sony Tablet S, amazing device. The only problem I'm having is that when the tablet is idle, or the screen shuts down, the WiFi gets disconnected and it doesn't reconnect untill I open the WiFi panel in the settings app.
Now before you guys jump to conclusions, yes, I changed the WiFi disconnect policy to "Never (uses more battery power)". That hasn't helped at all.
Any ideas? Is this just with Sony S or a generic Honeycomb thing? Tablet hasn't been rooted as yet.
Try Advanced Wifi Lock Free. It works well with my tablet.
This issue seems to be a bug in Tablet S. I hope they'll fix it in the ICS release

Though I have heard of this issue before, my new tablet does not have this problem, maybe Sony has fixed the bug.
p.s. I changed the wifi disconnect setting to Never.
I started using wifi advanced lock a couple weeks ago and it works great! Much better than making sure the screen stays on during all your downloading
...Although I've noticed a massive change in battery life. Typically I was always getting 7-8 hours of screen on (gaming) time out of it, with up to an additional 24 hours of time with it on standby.
Now I got about 13 hours standby and 4.5 hours screen on time with wifi constantly on.
All I'm saying is to have a widget for turning on/off wifi quickly, and leave it off when it's not in use. I didn't think that wifi made THAT much of a difference..but apparently it does lol (and that was still without autosync on either)
I uninstalled that and use spare parts instead. Advanced wifi lock was horrid with my battery grrr
I think is normal, because if you put your tablet in standby is because you're not using them so why you need wifi on?
When you turn on again the wifi will reconnect auto again

I had the same issue when connecting at my house, If you have a WPS enabled routter, connect to you access point using WPS. At keeps the signal locked.
I like keeping my wifi on while my screen is asleep so that I can receive chat messages or e-mails without being at my computer. I never had this problem while running ICS on an unrooted TF201, but ever since I installed the upgrade to JB my wifi will always disconnect after the screen has been asleep for a few minutes. I've checked every setting I can think of. In the Wifi Advanced menu, I have it set so Wifi is always on, and in the ASUS customized setting I have Disconnect network during sleep to off. Under Power Saver I have Enable low battery settings off, set Low battery level to 0%, and even set Wifi OFF to off. Despite all of this, it seems like the tablet under JB goes into some sort of deep sleep and disconnects the wifi after about 5 minutes of inactivity.
I have noticed that this problem does not occur when the screen is on. I also have the dock, and set the screen to always on during meetings in the event that I don't need to enter any notes for a few minutes so I don't have to fool with any delays from screen wake .
Is there some setting I'm missing? Is it a hidden setting that I could access by rooting? Or am I dealing with something internal to the build that I can't change at all? This may not seem like a huge deal to most, but it has become one of my main uses for the tablet when I'm at home. I'm very disappointed with JB so far even though the wifi does feel more responsive on the Prime after the update (when it's not sleeping, of course!).
EDIT: I noticed this evening that the wifi turns off even when I'm running something that uses it while the screen is off. I was listening to Pandora, and about 5 minutes after the screen went off, my music stopped. When I turned the screen back on, I saw that the wifi had indeed become disconnected.

I have exactly the same problem with my tablet. I have checked every option, I did a factory reset several time, I have checked it on 2 different routers but it is still disconnecting the wife when it goes in the sleep modus. Did you or anyone else find a solution?

My wifi connection keep turning off every time i turn off my screen for about more than 1 minute. and it turns back on when i open screen lock, so in that time, i'm not be able to receive any facebook message or downloading app from app store . Could u help me fix this, thanks a lot and by the way, my phone wont charge until 100% or fully charged it just stop at 90%
Hi guys, my mom have a D618, she's old so dont know much about Android. She want a long battery life so I rooted her phone, installed Greenify and disabled some bloatware app.
But sometimes I check the phone and notice that wifi cant turn on. I mean it seems to be turning on (wifi icon in quick setting blinks) but it can not turn on. I have to reset phone to fix it but this issue still appears after some days. I couldnt check her phone always so that it even if happens day by day make drain battery so much. I dont know what causes it, and how to fix it completely.
Is there anyone also get this issue like me? Fix experience? Thanks
