Hi all,
My UK Galaxy s3, on 3uk Network, running CyangenMod V 10.1.3-i9300 is having problems (hardware issues, not related to software)
To simplify my issues I will break it down into parts
A. Problems:
1. My phone will not charge, nothing happens when inserting the micro usb charger.
2. My phone signal (3uk) comes and goes randomly.
3. When trying to charge phone whilst it is switched off, an explanation mark and temperature gauge appear flashing and the phone vibrates as the icons flash. the phone does not charge.
B. Cause:
This all started when I was walking in heavy rain for about an hour, my phone was within a pocket on my supposedly waterproof jacket. I returned home, removed my phone to find it drenched, I removed the battery and left the phone to dry out for around 24 hours. Now I have the issues above.
C. Advice Please:
Is my phone ready for the scrap heap? I am ready to list it as faulty for spares or repair only on eBay and buy another phone. Before I replace my phone is there any chance of bringing it back to its former glory?
If anyone knows what are the likely problems or how to fix them I might have a go at repairing it.
D: Further info:
I have had my phone for around 18 months and it is a little battered, the screen is fine as I always had a screen protector on it, but the chrome trim is a little scratched and dented. I really fancy a new phone but ideally wanted to wait to March when I can upgrade my phone without penalty.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Oliver
1 Charger or cable or USB faulty .
2 Network problems .
3 Overheating .
But all this sounds much more like internal component fried due to moisture .
Could be the usb port .
check charging port connector, disassemble and clean with cleaning solution.

I tried cleaning with compressed air, an electric toothbrush and a cloth but no success
I have some TimCleaan, CPU thermal paste remover knocking around, maybe I should give that a go?
I managed to remove the 2 lower screws near the usb port and remove the plastic but iot still isnt easy to clean right inside of the port
Thanks for your advice

I've just tried it connected to my PC, unfortunately the phone responses the same as when connected to the outlet plug. I think I'll list it on eBay, I
just wondered if they might be an easy fix, but it doesn't look like it.
I'm eyeing up a LG G2 as a replacement, but perhaps I should get something more robust or waterproof lol
Cheers everyone
For charging issue... few months back my S3 was too not being charged, i was too in rain with waterproof jacket and phone in pocket. but i never had that exclamation sign and temperature gauge. i fixed it by changing the micro usb port of the phone. that solved my problem but for other issues, i dont know what is causing that.
Wife fixed it (partly)
I gave up on this phone, but the wife picked up my tools and said she fancied a p[lay around. She stripped the phone used some liquid gold we had lying around and brushed the pins on the back of the micro usb port. she bushed a few other things spray compressed air and put it together again.
The usb port now charges, the only issue now is the signal coming and going all the time. if a call connects it holds the signal but otherwise the signal works for 10 secs then goes off for around 10 secs continuously.
Any ideas anyone?

Intermittent signal problem.
Phone is completely dry and has been cleaned everywhere. The antenna has been disconnected and reconnected and I have reflashed CyanogenMod 10.1.3
The intermittent signal problem continues
Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to try a new sim, but I really don't think is the sum card because if I make a call whilst I have signal the call doesn't drop, it stays connected until I hang up, then the signal goes and comes again
My WiFi and everything else on the phone is perfect. Any ideas anyone please?

Hi all,
I dropped my sgs2 in the sink full of water
I immediately recovered it, pulled or the battery, and dried with a towel. I also left it to dry for one day before putting it back together.
Unfortunately the USB had a lot of problems, the phone drained all the battery and it believed that the USB was always connected. Also the home button is always pressed..
I then ordered the USB flex cable from ebay and replaced it together with a new battery..
But now the home button is still always pressed (not physically but logically) and also after replacing the USB part my speaker now is not working anymore :banghead:
I solved one issue and created a new one.. Do you have any suggestion for me? Please help me!
I couldn't clean the home button because I don't know how to remove it... I just blew air on it from behind after removing the USB flex board...
Thanks guys, my hope is in you

One day is never long enough after water immersion. Trying to use it after such a short time will - and appears to have - made the situatin worse.
The longer, the better - 5 days has worked for me before.
Probably too late now, but disassemble everything - take out battery, SIM, external SD - and put everything in an airtight container with rice, and silica packets if you have any. Then leave it completely - don't even open the container.
Check again in 5 days. No guarantee it'll work, but 100% guaranteed that your method could never work.
Good luck.
It is now more than a week since the accident and I opened it yesterday and there was no trace of water inside. Only the USB part was spotted with tiny white marks.
I replaced the USB flex cable board, but my speaker now is not working anymore. Do you know what could be the problem? (After the immersion it was working perfectly, so something happened yesterday when I disassembled the phone).
Also the home button always pressed is driving me crazy, some of you have had the same problem or know how to check its board and/or change it? It seems to me that it is parto of the LCD or at least glued to it... If so I can't do much
Send it to samsung and get a new one

its better to service/replace it asap before it gets doomed further
Dropped your phone in a puddle? Remove battery/memory card & place phone in a container of uncooked white rice. http://pic.twitter.com/T7w08fRO

It's definitely the port.
Take your phone battery out.
Get some methylated spirits. If you can't get that, get some rubbing alcohol. Don't use anything else.
Take your phone battery out.
Get a sewing needle or pin, or safety pin. Use that to scrape out any lint and run it along the length of each of the 5 usb contacts (very very delicately). Make a tiny ball of tissue paper (less then a millimetre in diameter) and soak it lightly with methylated spirits or rubbing alcohol and push it around inside the port. it must be small enough not to bend or damage the protruding usb pins and plastic support.
Did you take your phone battery out? OK put it back in and plug in the USB and see what happens. Make sure you are using you AC charger for this. Sometimes it won't charge off a low current USB connection, if the battery is that discharged.
I had your exact symptoms and this solution fixed the problem permanently for me.

My phone had the exact same problem, wish I had the explanation you just got. I had to improvise as mine went weird 3 days after release! But do what the replier said, it will fix it permanently, and don't be afraid, better doing it yourself than having to flash a stock ROM in order to remove CWM which I assume you have, and sending it back. Don't be a wuss!
Chris.
Hey everyone,
I'm experiencing random shut off, power off on my vibrant. The problems are as follows:
Phone may shut off while booting up
Phone inconsistently shuts off moved around
sometimes even shuts off while just sitting idle in sleep
Pressing the volume down button will cause the phone to shut down (similar to a battery pull)
With the said some things to note. The phone has a broken GPS antenna, the power button flex cable ribbon is slightly torn.
There are no other internal components with physical damage. The phone has been dropped.
THE PHONE HAS BEEN TESTED ON STOCK ECLAIR WITH EMPTY INTERNAL SD CARD, NO SIM IS IN USE
Are there any apps I can use to test hardware? What are you guys recommendations? Thank in advance!!

I tore the power ribbon in the phone when trying to fix the phone GPS. gonna buy repair parts and fix it soon anyone find guides for soldering small parts send that my way!

Just to be sure, are you positive you have the T959 and not the T959v? Assuming you have the T959, have you tried wedging a small piece of paper or something between the bottom of the battery and the phone? I have seen a few people have a problem with the battery wedging loose and causing it to cut off, it was fixed by this. If this doesn't work it could be the battery itself, it may be time to buy a new one. I have no idea why pressing the volume button cuts the phone off, that is rather strange......
100% sure which model i have. and none of the things you mentioned are the problem unfortunately. I tried a new battery & getting the battery in tighter. and it is strange, I have theories but nothing I can prove.
I noticed you said the power button cable was slightly torn. Maybe it is shorting out and causing the phone to shut off? That would be the only logical thing I could think of other than the battery, which you said isn't the problem.

I agree, that's the same conclusion I came to and will be ordering and soldering a new one. I know there are some very talented people on XDA, fortunately, with more experience than myself and that's saying a lot. I was hoping I could get some nugget of wisdom, kinda like something I overlooked An outside opinion don't hurt.
I had this same issue a couple months ago. What i did was tape the back with the battery cover off with scotch tape. I used 3 strips across the battery to keep it in place and it seemed to resolve my problem. I change the tape out like every 2 weeks though. Hope that helps

I already confirmed above I don't have a battery problem My issue is/was with the flex ribbon power cable has torn slightly, it caused random reboots.
bought a new one on ebay and boom!
So unexplainably my g5 started showing me this. Also plugging into charger does nothing. Don't know if factory reset would fix or if this is a hardware issue. I've been looking online but none of the genuine replacements confirm fitting this variant. Anyone have some insight to these matters?
Also that screenshot is without being plugged in. That message doesn't disappear.
That's very odd. If it doesn't actually harm anything I would just let it be. A new bottom chin is gonna cost you, but it's worth is up to you.
Btw, what font/theme are you running? It looks gorgeous

Mine did this and it drove me crazy it would act as if I was plugging and unplugging constantly..
I disassembled it cleaned it all kinds of stuff....
It seemed like the hotter the device got the worse it was
I had this exact same issue on my H850 sometime back, did you by any chance get the phone wet? Changing the bottom chin had no effect in my case, it had to be sent in for repairs and when i got it back the entire phone except the screen was replaced. If you have warranty I suggest you send the phone in and they'll likely replace all required parts.
Did some digging and it turns out that the charging port of charger and phone get dirty and when they do u have to clean them. I used rubbing alcohol. Dipped unplugged charger male end. And disconnected the bottom chin. They *ucked for like 2 minutes. Blew it out with a can of air and boom problem solved

Yea I did mine and it never solved it mine was full of crap I did get fast charge to work after cleaning but issue still persisted
Hey everyone,
I tried popping open my phone and doing the DIY GPS fix of lifting the prongs and camera lens replacement, I think I ended up damaging something with the heat from the hair dryer... cus after I reassembled my mobile everything popped back into place but now the phone is just giving one buzz and a black screen when I press the power button.
I tried connecting the charger but no response, even the LED for charging is not lighting up. Any idea what I must've done wrong or how I can get it fixed?
thanks for the advice
Doesn't sound good. I'm not familiar with the mod you performed but doing these kinds of things are hazardous if your not careful and even if you are.
Is your devices recognized when you connect it to a computer? In MS Windows you might see something show up in device manager. I would open up the device again, disassemble / reassemble, and hope it comes back to life. This has happened to be in the past and the issue would mysteriously resolve itself.
Maybe pop out back apart and make sure all the flex cables are connected properly if not. Sorry for your loss
