Hi all,
My UK Galaxy s3, on 3uk Network, running CyangenMod V 10.1.3-i9300 is having problems (hardware issues, not related to software)
To simplify my issues I will break it down into parts
A. Problems:
1. My phone will not charge, nothing happens when inserting the micro usb charger.
2. My phone signal (3uk) comes and goes randomly.
3. When trying to charge phone whilst it is switched off, an explanation mark and temperature gauge appear flashing and the phone vibrates as the icons flash. the phone does not charge.
B. Cause:
This all started when I was walking in heavy rain for about an hour, my phone was within a pocket on my supposedly waterproof jacket. I returned home, removed my phone to find it drenched, I removed the battery and left the phone to dry out for around 24 hours. Now I have the issues above.
C. Advice Please:
Is my phone ready for the scrap heap? I am ready to list it as faulty for spares or repair only on eBay and buy another phone. Before I replace my phone is there any chance of bringing it back to its former glory?
If anyone knows what are the likely problems or how to fix them I might have a go at repairing it.
D: Further info:
I have had my phone for around 18 months and it is a little battered, the screen is fine as I always had a screen protector on it, but the chrome trim is a little scratched and dented. I really fancy a new phone but ideally wanted to wait to March when I can upgrade my phone without penalty.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Oliver
1 Charger or cable or USB faulty .
2 Network problems .
3 Overheating .
But all this sounds much more like internal component fried due to moisture .
Could be the usb port .
check charging port connector, disassemble and clean with cleaning solution.

I tried cleaning with compressed air, an electric toothbrush and a cloth but no success
I have some TimCleaan, CPU thermal paste remover knocking around, maybe I should give that a go?
I managed to remove the 2 lower screws near the usb port and remove the plastic but iot still isnt easy to clean right inside of the port
Thanks for your advice

I've just tried it connected to my PC, unfortunately the phone responses the same as when connected to the outlet plug. I think I'll list it on eBay, I
just wondered if they might be an easy fix, but it doesn't look like it.
I'm eyeing up a LG G2 as a replacement, but perhaps I should get something more robust or waterproof lol
Cheers everyone
For charging issue... few months back my S3 was too not being charged, i was too in rain with waterproof jacket and phone in pocket. but i never had that exclamation sign and temperature gauge. i fixed it by changing the micro usb port of the phone. that solved my problem but for other issues, i dont know what is causing that.
Wife fixed it (partly)
I gave up on this phone, but the wife picked up my tools and said she fancied a p[lay around. She stripped the phone used some liquid gold we had lying around and brushed the pins on the back of the micro usb port. she bushed a few other things spray compressed air and put it together again.
The usb port now charges, the only issue now is the signal coming and going all the time. if a call connects it holds the signal but otherwise the signal works for 10 secs then goes off for around 10 secs continuously.
Any ideas anyone?

i think because of water inside your phone, the signal receiver is too not working, try to clan the receiver too..

Intermittent signal problem.
Phone is completely dry and has been cleaned everywhere. The antenna has been disconnected and reconnected and I have reflashed CyanogenMod 10.1.3
The intermittent signal problem continues
Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to try a new sim, but I really don't think is the sum card because if I make a call whilst I have signal the call doesn't drop, it stays connected until I hang up, then the signal goes and comes again
My WiFi and everything else on the phone is perfect. Any ideas anyone please?

Can you detach the antenna cable reference image below.
check the red mark if there are some moisture, clean it
Dear all,
Firstly, I tried to clean the ports as usual, as they gets dirty after one month us continous usage and sporting - but not helped this time.
Looks my watch did not survived after only washing my hands ( never swimmed with them ).
They are still 100% operating, but can not be charged. Even when pluged to PC, now it shows message as unrecognized device (before windows normaly recognized them)
And I can see, battery is getting faster to reach zero %.
Did someone (with bricked watch) tried to open them, or you got some clue HOW TO?
I can then pass them to our engineers in foxconn, to study and find possible solution.
Thanks for any advice.

Check that the small spring connectors on the docking has the same height. (in case some of them are somewhat stuck)
I usually also clean the ports on the watch with a wooden toothpick.

Hi,
as I wrote, I was cleaning them usually (written in the topic) and as PC can detect watch after connection, means docking connectors are OK - anyway thanks
Finally, I managed to open the watch and found root cause of charging issue.
Touching pin from inside of plastic cover was stacked somehow and not reaching properly to FFC charging poitns (no idea how this damage is possible to happen from inside of watch).
No water leak as it was expected, so at least this point is fine to realize - waterproof OK
I made some pictures, how the watch look like from inside - if somebody is interested in.
Please post pictures, they'd be useful. You're referring to the pins in picture #1 not making contact with the internal pads of the PCB in picture #2 ?

Yes, exactly...one on the right side of cover is stacked. When I directly put 5V onto +/- pad on the watch, it started to charge...so i only need to fix pin.
Oh, I understand now. Thank you for the pictures, looks to be kind of difficult to fix without opening the watch; perhaps some light, directed tapping on the pad would work.

hmm...in this case, I think only possibility to fix is to open. Realy depends how it is stacked...mine is pretty solid and hard to release even now when I opened it and got room to touch. Opening of watch itself was pretty hard, well sticked , protected against dust, water and aligned...nice job from xiaomi I must say.

Thanks for the pictures, interesting.
So for the big question, have you managed to get it back together again, without issues?
(i guess you have to clean and reapply glue/silicone)

As of now back cover is only freely pushed to watch and placed into docking station - wrapped all around by tape to hold position.
15 minutes ago fully charged, so from this point of view working.
Just to update: pin was not stacked, but finally I found out, that spring inside of this pin was broken.
Now, I will paste transparent contact glue (water resistant) and stick together - it is supposed to have same resistance as before, even I did not tested it so much under water
So I believe for my purposes of usage (only runing and biking) I will handle all my needs.
Anyone knows if there are spare pins somewhere?
Mine has 2 pins which are pretty corroded and now I cannot connect the watch to the PC.
Lucky I can still charge it

Simple workaround: graphite (temporary) or conductive/silver paste (glue).
Thank you for your advice.
I was hoping to replace them to have a cleaner look.
I found the pins here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/20-...1d-4765-bdec-d8632028f24c&transAbTest=ae803_5
But I don't know the size.
So unexplainably my g5 started showing me this. Also plugging into charger does nothing. Don't know if factory reset would fix or if this is a hardware issue. I've been looking online but none of the genuine replacements confirm fitting this variant. Anyone have some insight to these matters?
Also that screenshot is without being plugged in. That message doesn't disappear.
That's very odd. If it doesn't actually harm anything I would just let it be. A new bottom chin is gonna cost you, but it's worth is up to you.
Btw, what font/theme are you running? It looks gorgeous

Mine did this and it drove me crazy it would act as if I was plugging and unplugging constantly..
I disassembled it cleaned it all kinds of stuff....
It seemed like the hotter the device got the worse it was
I had this exact same issue on my H850 sometime back, did you by any chance get the phone wet? Changing the bottom chin had no effect in my case, it had to be sent in for repairs and when i got it back the entire phone except the screen was replaced. If you have warranty I suggest you send the phone in and they'll likely replace all required parts.
Did some digging and it turns out that the charging port of charger and phone get dirty and when they do u have to clean them. I used rubbing alcohol. Dipped unplugged charger male end. And disconnected the bottom chin. They *ucked for like 2 minutes. Blew it out with a can of air and boom problem solved

I recently started running my humidifier again at night, and when I wake up and plug in my phone, I get this pop-up. It makes a noise even if the phone is set to silent mode, and it won't let me do anything until I unplug it. I guess the sensor must be pretty sensitive, because it's not that steamed up in the room. Has this feature been here all this time, or did it come more recently with an update?

Mine was doing that today to. Try blowing into the chargeing port and as well as taping the phone against your hand. I did that and didn't completely work so then I tried turning the phone off to charge and it it's worked fine since then

Same here as far as turning the phone off, I just turned it off and plugged it in, then when it rebooted it didn't give me that pop up anymore. Thanks.
If nothing works you need to take it to your carriers store and they will replace your charging port on your phone. Happened to me 2 months ago and took it in and they said that's not unusual for that to happen so they replaced my port and no issues at all now.
I am sorry to say it but it is most likely charging port problem.
Not in every case of course but it happens.
My Galaxy S8 Plus died because of faulty port.
Be careful.
In all fairness to the phone, I was running my humidifier all night long, and while it wasn't real steamy or anything, it was more so than normal.
If Still Needed..

Yeah the moisture detection on this device seems to be overly sensitive or a bit off-kilter. For me it happens with the OEM cable and also a completely different cable from a Chromebook.

Same here! It's getting worse too because I can't establish a connection to Odin and update my phone. Freaking T-Mobile never releases the U1 updates like other carriers do ?
I just started wondering if a factory reset would help, make it forget that it ever detected moisture ?

I do believe it is a little over sensitive, but I would say try cleaning your charging port.
I was getting that message off and on for months and someone said to check the port. I shined a light in and it looked fine so I didn't bother. After a few weeks it got worse so I stuck a pin in there and pulled out an unbelievable amount of compacted pocket lint...
I'm guessing pushing a little bit in adds up over time and either the sensor was being tripped by the lint or the lint was trapping moisture.
Good luck.

STANIMAL: I had the moisture detected message and there was no moisture. After many different attempts to dry it with no success I ended up looking in the charging port and noticed a ton of dust, dirt, and gunk build up. So I took a toothpick and carefully scrapped all the gunk out while holding the phone up so that the gunk would fall out. I also used a blow dryer on cold to blow any excess out and when I turned my screen back on it was no longer giving the error. You must be careful not to break pieces of the phone inside the port and also avoiding toothpick chunks becoming lodged in there. But this truly does work.

Sewing needle works the best. I've been telling people this for 3 plus years now. Type c ports are prone to dirt sweat and then being packed in everyday

STANIMAL: Right a sewing needle would work, however, i went with a toothpick because it is made of wood and therefore much less likely if not nearly impossible to damage any plastic or metal inside the charging port area. Needles are strong metals and very sharp, can damage other metals and plastics.
Hi all,
Unfortunately, I've dropped my phone into the water and it sat there for 20 minutes or so. After that, I have disassembled it and left it in a container full of rice for 2 days.
Now, every time I try to do one of these:
1)Turn it on
2) Charge
3) plug it to my laptop
It shows the pocophone logo, then the empty battery logo for less than a second and the loop starts it all over again.
Please, any ideas on what can I try to do mitigate the problem? Thanks.

yr emmc died then replace motherboard.
battery and screen and back and possibly camera (if new motherboard does not include it) can probably keep.
Rice is useless. More than likely it's junk now.
You need to disassemble it and get out all the water. Water plus power equals corrosion.
Any corrosion can cause immediate failures or delayed ones even months, years latter. Connector contacts and power buses/components are particularly susceptible as well as some surface mount devices.
>Pull battery immediately!!!<
Disassemble as much as you are able to and pull all ribbon cable and other connectors.
Use anhydrous isopropyl alcohol* liberally if fresh water or RO water than isopropyl for salt water**.
Make sure the (water) alcohol gets into all switches and ribbon connector contacts.
Junk it but then get the alcohol off it fast.
Use compressed air to blow out the isopropyl alcohol as much as possible. It will take a few minutes, be careful with the air pressure.
Place in a warm dry place with fan on it until all water is gone.
I salvaged my Buds case like this after it fell to the bottom of my coffee (yes it had lots of sugar in it) cup. Couldn't disconnect the battery so I just pull the top inside cover off, flooding with water first then isopropyl alcohol. Had no compressed air so I used a blower bulb then let it sit in the sun on the dashboard. Total time from dunk to sun bake was about 3 minutes.
_Time is of the essence_ especially if the battery is in it. You have minutes (maybe) not hours.
A year later (surprisingly) the case still charges and functions normally.
*Do not use isopropyl alcohol on older LCD displays as it will poison them; they are open on the sides.
It should be 99% isopropyl alcohol not 70%!
Anhydrous isopropyl alcohol attracts moisture from the air so low humidity is best. ESD damage is possible but the water is a bigger threat.
It's also flammable but not extremely just don't get stupid about it.
**salt water has near a 100% mortality rate no matter what you do.
Coffee with sugar... there's a chance

I would at least take the cover off, unplug the battery and leave in a warm dry place with a fan on it for at least a few days.
If any water is still present it will likely fail.
Turns out, as soon as the new battery drained the problem were back, exactly the same as before, it seems the phone has lost its capacity of charging the battery. Everything was working fine while the battery was charged, screen, speakers, phone calls. I will take the phone to a professional next week, let's see if they can figure it out. If you guys have any suggestions on what could be done I would appreciate as well.

Hi guys, let me just let register how was the closure for the case.
I have taken the phone to a technician, the phone was disassembled and had its parts washed with isopropyl alcohol. The procedure bring it back to life, it been more than a week so far it has been working fine.
