I have started a petition on change.org about the so talked 3D drivers on HTC EVO 3D. Let's hope this will do something.
https://www.change.org/petitions/ht...-s-drivers-sourcecode-related-to-3d-functions
I hope it is written well and all of it makes sense. If anybody wants to me to add/change something feel free to add suggestions.
Feel free also to discuss anything else around the whole 3D drivers issue here.
Last but not least I'd like to ask you to spread the word about the petition and if it's possible I'd like to ask XDA to give some help on it, it would be pretty intresting to see what comes out of such thing.
Thank you everybody!
UPDATE: 100 supporters reached! Thanx everybody!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Signed, and I added a reason as well (to see if I ever buy HTC again).
To be absolutely honest, I believe that it isn't such a big deal releasing those drivers as much as HTC acts like it is, too much trouble for something really simple that affects nothing. Why, oh, why HTC?
Thank you
You're welcome, actualy there's no reason to thank me, if that petition does anything we are all winners here, HTC too.

If it does not comply with Android's GPL system the patent is in violation of it, so we can claim breach.
You can't do anything you want with your hardware since you are forced to have available it's sources, you can patent your product (law will protect you) but not releasing the source for your patent inside the Android ecosystem is a breach of Android's policy on OEMs and it's GPL.
Not really. Even Google is moving a lot of their stuff closed source. There's hardly anything interesting in AOSP anymore. Gmail and Google Now aren't open source. You can mix open and closed source very easily. Sadly.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk
You can make thousands of points here but whatever that point will be it still it won't be a reason to not show HTC that it's one of their last chances to show that they care about their costumers and the ecosystem themselfs entered willingly before everybody else will not [care] for them, in the end of the day this is what 50% of the petition is about.
You can sign the petition only to show that you agree, the outcome of it (and any other petition) is another part, you don't enter something only to get what you want because you just said so, (this is the way a 5 year old stubborn child thinks) but you enter because you believe it is correct and you want others to know, whatever their move will be.

Thank you everybody, let's hope that HTC will understand the importancy of the matter as much as we do and take responsibility.
I don't think the Problem is HTC. HTC get the driver for the Snapdragon MSM8660 from Qualcomm. And Qualcomm didn't develop the new driver. So HTC can't support us with an new android version ...

Sprint customer service--in the past 6 years anyway--has never let me down and never fails to impress me.
The only listed item is for calendar entries that were force closing when they were being edited. Beyond that we have no information that anything else was included. The issue seems to have been enough to warrant a maintenance release apparently.

If you are who you say you are, any reason why this isn't unlocked? I mean, for real. Think about it... The devs on xda pretty much decide shoot to which phones are purchased due to the customability and let me just say, after 100's of hours of deving on the EVO, I will not be happy if the 3d isn't rooted sooner than later..
Kick it in gear and get us the unlock update

What information do you have on the (what I presume would be an) OTA that will address the crypto-signed bootloader that HTC promised to "unlock" for us?
...and if not an OTA form will it be an RUU? If not that, then what? This is a MAJOR ISSUE to all of us here...if it is not addressed to our satisfaction I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that +95% of us WILL return our phones in 30 days.
In summation, how will this issue be address by HTC and/or Sprint?

And a simple ota would solve all that. I'm sticking with my original thoughts. Seriously, how many people follow myn or virus and decide to get phone they use because of what team synergy is working on? Trust me, 2 million hits on rl5 alone for myn. Tmartin and myself watched 150k hits in a couple days when we ported the first sense 3 to the EVO.... Before kingdom... Trust me...non devs get like phones of great devs and a simple ota to unlock it is an easy fix... Not to mention keep strong loyalty for future evos... And better yet, sell a lot more once it hits xda that its rootable.

I don't know....XDA is a rather renowned entity these days, especially in this business. i wouldn't be shocked to hear they devoted one $12 an hour lacky to keep an eye on it...though, I'd also be surprised if that lacky had the meaty information we actually want.
...then why send him here?
But then again, Sprint reps I've talked to are universally less useful than most people on here (excepting, of course, Sprint employees who work here--never met one)...
..but then again, that would further illustrate how out of touch they are...
...but then again that would be a fantastic trolling angle...
Not sure when or the likeliness of this not getting extended but thought it'd be worth sharing. The exemption that makes jailbreaking the iphone and rooting android is going to run out and if it doesn't get extended, these activities could be deemed illegal.

I am sure they can twist the Legalese to say that you own the device, but Apple merely let's you lease software at no cost to you. This means that they still own the software, and if you modify it, it's illegal.
Gotta love EULA's. Check out iTunes one, it actually says that you cannot use iTunes to develop nuclear weapons... I am sure they could easily hide the "We own the software, so you cannot jailbreak it" somewhere.
Should not apply to Android, since it is open. Google could possibly pull a very **** move, and say if you root it, you lose the license to use gapps and market, but that is highly unlikely.
Android is and always will be open source. As long as android is Linux based rooting and modding android will always be legal.

This, all of this. I don't care what they do for Apple's ****ty software and operating system, but Android is open source and is licensed under ASL2.0. You can read about it all here: http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html
ASL2.0 is basically granting permission to do anything with it so long as the license is distributed with it, and that you indicate what exactly you've changed in each file you've changed.
Open source is open source is open source.

Hi everyone, as a GSM 3D owner, I am really frustrated at this point as there is no ICS release, and dont think there will be anytime soon and here's why: The sensation, vivid/velocity/raider and soon the rezound are the only htc phones that are getting their official OTA, BUT if you do your research, all these phones have had SEVERAL leaks before arriving to the point of getting an OTA. On the other hand we have NOTHING!!! That DEFINITELY means htc has not even started on the 3D yet (as we have NO leaks), and we will most likely get the update sometime in Q3 for sure. Heck, even the galaxy Note got a leak today! It has become somewhat of a trend that ICS must be leaked at least 1 month prior to the official OTA release (tell me 1 phone that didnt!!)
So my request to the devs: please somehow get the camera and 3D working on ICS roms no matter how long it takes (because I know it is possible, just difficult). If we had not waited so long for the official release we would've had a fully functional ICS ROM by now, so if we keep waiting, God knows how long we will be left in the dark for. Please just somehow get those things to work and the community will remember you forever!!!

Well i dont understand why everyone takes a request to a dev so seriously, its only a REQUEST not an obligation, i do it to give them some encouragement to do something that only they can, bcz at the end of the day they can do whatever they want, but it'd be nice if they devoted some time to fulfilling our requests. A president of a country doesnt get paid much, but that does not mean he shouldnt listen to the public, in this case the devs are the leaders and we are the people, so they are our only chance of fulfilling something and i think they should listen to the community because with great power comes responsibility (superman never got paid anything)! Yeah some people just want stock AT&T Sense. Anyways, I believe it's AT&T fault for not rolling out the update. HTC leaves it up to the carrier to when they want to release the update. yeah what's up with this? didn't XDA used to require like 50 posts before you could start a thread? this is why we have androidforums.com. regardless, HTC needs to spend more on marketing so that more people will buy their products and ATT will have to prioritize the updating. this delay is not on HTC...it's almost 100% on AT&T. ATT had the HOX JB update for like 3.5 months before they pushed it out to people, and their own customer service isn't even made privy to the status. this is what the purchase of subsidized phones and contracts gets us consumers. if it's REALLY a problem for you, then you're at XDA for the solution. this isn't a place to complain. if you want stock sense, that's fine, I can totally appreciate it, but you dont come to, and sign up for, a Dev website to ***** about the lack of a stock OTA from a carrier known to take (queue Sandlot) FOR-EV-ER to update it's phones.

I think the snide replies are rooted in the fact that the basic sentiment of your original post has been stated an overwhelming amount of times on this website, especially with regards to AT&T and HTC issuing an OTA for major - and even minor - software updates. Many folks get tired of coming to this site to read the same thing, hence the increased likelihood of getting a snide reply.
Truthfully, the update probably is moving forward, it's just that AT&T is about as transparent as the Bush administration so we never have any clue where things stand with regards to actual delivery of the updates. Yes, forums is probably going to be hit or miss with regards to quality of advice. But the way you're delivering your comment here makes you seem like you should be in forums, and is probably going to get you some colorful responses from non-middle schoolers.
If you've rooted as much as you claim, you probably know that we almost never know why carrier updates are not moving forward....or if they're moving forward at all. Many come here to find technical solutions and workarounds to that exact ongoing problem, and often get annoyed seeing the same thing posted again and again in each subforum. I think the general assumption here is that many of us are, in fact, frequently posting complaints/concerns/comments on carrier and manufacturer websites, social media pages, forums, etc. We're all on the same boat, or at least many of us.
We welcome rallying for a cause here, but it's possible there's a better way to go about starting a rally for this issue. In the past, folks have posted the actual interactions they've received from customer support reps and techs, feedback responses, etc, and discussions have ensued as to the best ways to get in touch with the companies involved with regards to really displaying the distaste of both the developer and general enthusiast consumer. The AT&T/Rogers/Telus HTC One X forums is a great case study, in particular, the rally around getting the original JB update RUU, source, etc.
I've had a few interactions with HTC and ATT with regards to future updates, but have gotten absolutely zero information from them. Sadly, they mask their lack of sharing as ignorance all too well. Even more sad is that CSRs and technicians are probably not really lying at all when they claim to know nothing about the updates. Again, we're hooked into contract, not to mention that the vast majority of their consumers don't realize the potential benefits of upgrades, and in many cases aren't even aware of their potential existence. That's where we'll probably really see the change, in getting more people familiarized with the beast we are burdened to deal with; not here, but in the general public.

I've been trying to make some sense of it too. Would like to hear opinions.

Looks like more negativity then positivity to me.... i think it just might affect us, if their ignoring, shafting and trolling contributers whos going to want to contribute? Looks like CM has joined my ignore rom list alongside Flex360........ oh well, they come and they go and more devs come & create greatness

Yup, looks like AOSPA, AOKP, and others will be where the actions at!
I keep trying the links from OP and they just go to androidfannetwork with links for apartment hunting, what's new in Vegas, etc. :what:

I think they accomplished what we would all hope for profitability. Doesn't make the tech they put into the now called products they build any less just means they have to play by a different set of rules and the challenge to produce the same quality of work will be impacted. Sure as users we will lose and gain some features. I just hope they don't forget how they got to where they're at and start charging us or worse stop free rom development.
That's what I'm thinking. CM isn't going to be free anymore.

I'm pretty sure its illegal to sell something that's free/open sourced. CM cannot use android and make a Rom and then sell it. Android is open source.

True yes but then they are Inc. which means as soon as they are contracted to make a retail phone rom then why would they keep making a free rom. It maybe open source but open source does not mean free. May mean that you can use the codes libs and so on for your own development but if it were free red fedora and Ubuntu wouldn't be making money.
KillerofJoy's i535 Rocking MOAR, and CM 11. Can't be helped, flash junky.
I don't believe it would be a bad idea.
