if you want root all you gotta do is download amon ra 3.1.6 and flash it via fastboot....in that recovery you will see a developers option (advanced options) select that and inside it youll see install su & superuser...once you do that you are rooted bud
Yeah, the toolkit is... ummm... less than optimum.
Remember you don't even have to flash Amon Ra, or any other recovery... just download and unzip into your adb/fastboot directory, then reboot into hboot and start fastboot and enter:
fastboot boot recovery.img (replace "recovery.img" with the img name from the Amon Ra ZIP file)
then use the options in Amon Ra to install SuperSU (root) from there you can update to the latest version after it is installed.

If your bootloader is unlocked already, then it is super simple because you are already unlocked and therefore have working ADB...
1) Just download a recovery, CWM, TWRP, or Amon Ra
2) Extract the ZIP to your [adb sdk directory]\platform-tools\ directory (or mini-adb if you went that route)
3) Download the latest SuperSU here: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
4) Copy UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip to the root of your SD Card
5) On your PC open a command prompt in your adb directory
6) type "adb reboot bootloader", wait for it to complete and start fastboot
7) type "fastboot boot recovery.img" (substitute the name of the img file from the recovery zip for recovery.img)
8) Install/flash (depending on recovery) and find the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip file and install/flash it
9) reboot
10) done, enjoy root

I went through the steps and now phone is off and wont turn on. When connected QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager.
Do we need to have the QHSUSB_DLOAD drivers for this exploit to work?
Thanks ahead of time.
EDIT: Did a battery pull and started over from begining. We now have S-Off!!!!! Failed to install CWM but I will install TWRP
Does Amon Recovery work? If so, can we get instructions for that? If not, instructions for CWM.
Thanks,
Mike
Oh okay, I failed.
When I did that it just came up with a list of commands
If your phone wont turn on you probably dont have your fastboot drivers installed. Do that first
AS for amon RA recovery that hasent been built for the shooter yet. If you want cmw just keep running the revolutionary application and it will ask if you want it to flash CMW

When you're S-ON, flashing recoveries has to be done from the cmd on your computer.
To do this:
1. Download the adb and fastboot drivers from HTCDev.com (underneath the unlock bootloader section)
2. Place the recovery you wanna flash in the same directory as fastboot and adb and rename it recovery.img
3. Open the cmd, and navigate to your fastboot directory (cd c:\[wherever fastboot is located]
4. Boot into bootloader on your phone, click on fastboot, and plug it into your computer
5. Type in the following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6. Once it finishes: fastboot boot recovery.img
7. Now you're in recovery
**note: until you decide to go s-off, you need to repeat steps 3-6 to get into recovery**

I'm looking for 4.03.605.2 with just root, any rom out there like that? I just want to be on 4.03.605.2 w/ root and 2.27 hboot. If there isnt a rom out do I just flash the 4.03.605.2 RUU? How do I get recovery and root? And btw 4.03.605.2 is the most up to date RUU, correct?
It is the most recent ruu but an ota update was released not to long ago but feedback from the ota update isn't so good, BTW you gain root from in the recovery. You flash recoverys through fast boot commands but I forgot what they are since I haven't had to re root in a long time but they should be in the recovery thread but if not than Google or something
Edit: forgot to answer part of the question Lol but yeah flashing the latest ruu will give 2.27 hboot and you can choose a ROM after that or you can stick with stock

so all i do flash ruu? then flash a recovery and superSU? where can i get flashable zips of recovery and SU? i just want to get back to 4.03.605.2 stock w root.
whyr you on 2.25 hboot? wer you getting the OTA update? cuzz if you did the latest ruu will over write that and also give 2.27
but here is the thread for recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339679

theirs 5 mirrors of it so check each one some are slower than others based on how far the server is from where you are
then to root just go to recovery and select "Developer Menu" than select "install su & Superuser" dont select the unguarded version!
than when you reboot to the stock Rom make sure to install a superuser app to take control of root

I think the OP needs to do the PH98IMG.zip of the recovery from the SD card in the Bootloader, because without a modified HBOOT he won't be able to use adb commands, IIRC
Here is a simple, easy guide to install a custom recovery and root your device after achieving S-Off using the RevOne method.
**Moonshine installs all the SU/busybox binaries needed for root. So if you merely want a custom recovery you can follow this guide up to Step 7.**
Takes less than 5 minutes and is really easy. First, go to one of these threads and download either classic or touch CWM CWM Recovery or TWRP if you so prefer TWRP Recovery
Step 1. Rename recovery file recovery.img *Note: If using Win7 or 8 it hides known file extensions by default. Take care to not rename the file to "recovery.img.img"*
Step 2. Move file to your folder containing fastboot.exe on your computer
Step 3. Make sure phone is plugged in to USB port and USB debugging is turned on.
Step 4. Open a command prompt and type in: adb devices
Step 5. If device is listed type: adb reboot bootloader
Step 6. Using the command prompt, cd to the directory that has your fastboot.exe and recovery file *example: cd C:\sdk\
Step 7. Once in the bootloader type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Step 8. If everything goes as it should, the recovery should be installed. On the bootloader screen you are currently on navigate to and select the BOOTLOADER option. Once it takes you to the new screen, navigate to and select RECOVERY
Step 9. Once it boots into recovery, select reboot now. It will prompt you to root the device. Select Yes.
Step 10. Phone will reboot. You now have a custom recovery and are rooted. Go to the play store and download either SuperUser or SuperSU. I prefer SuperSU, but it is entirely up to you.

Enjoy!!
Really nice guide. Thanks for writing this. It's also exactly the same steps one would use for TWRP, if someone is wondering about that. Just use the TWRP file and rename to recovery.img.

I've done this a 100 times but for some reason I'm getting the error "error: cannot load 'recovery.img'".
What's going on?
I did the RevOne method yesterday.
Edit, it happened with both CWM and TWRP.
After the RevOne method, my phone says **UNLOCKED** and S-Off, however is it possible that I'm not Unlocked?
Edit 2, what's really weird is that last night, I used the "All-in-one Toolkit" to flash the TWRP recovery and it worked just fine. I'm actually in the TWRP recovery right now. And then once I rebooted from recovery, it did NOT ask me to root/install SU.

Do you use Win7 or 8? By default it hides known file extensions. So if you renamed it to "recovery.img" it might actually be "recovery.img.img".
Also I believe the all in one kit installs the SU binaries for you... I wouldn't know as I don't use one clicks or kits.

You have to boot into fastboot mode to install this custom recovery on your device. Do you have fastboot and ADB setup on your computer and the device drivers installer for the Nexus 5? If you don't have fastboot and ADB setup on your computer I would recommend taking a look at this simple fastboot and ADB installer . Once you have fastboot and adb setup, and the device drivers installed follow the following steps:
1. Download this file.
2. Move the downloaded recovery file into the directory where you have ADB and Fastboot setup on your computer.
3. Navigate into the directory where you have ADB and Fastboot setup on your computer and run the following commands from the command prompt on your computer:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery hammerhead-cwm-6.0.4.4-unofficial.img
After following this procedure you will then have Clockworkmod Recovery installed on your device. Let me know if you still have questions.
And make sure you
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
first!
I installed the recovery via fastboot.
When i try to boot into recovery i'm stuck at google screen.
I'm able to reboot the device.

Are you too able to access recovery all? But you can reboot the device and still get into the bootloader for fastboot mode correct?

I can get into the bootloader, and flash the recovery but if i restart into recovery it sits at the Google screen. I then have to press the power button and restart the whole phone, Ive also tried booting into recovery using quickboot but again it sits at the Google screen.
sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do i boot into CWM? I have installed it correctly

Do i first have to root it? Or does it do it automatically?
Would my data be deleted too?

Interesting I'm curious to know if the TWRP build I posted does the same any hints from dmesg or last_kmsg would also be beneficial, is it possible for you use Android Debug Monitor (DDMS and Monitor in Android SDK tools folder if you have the sdk installed) and upload a log?
Okay so here is propably another noob question: On my HTC Sensation I had 4ext as recovery. What are the differences between this and 4ext or TWRP? Is there a thread somewhere I couldn't find!?
