[Q] Increase touch root partition - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We are developing some software on a Nexus 10 running ubuntu touch for a research project. One issue we have run into is that while everything is working this far, the root partition is limited to 2GB of space. Is there any way to increase the root partition size?

[Q] Android filesystem structure

Hi All.
I'm trying to learn about modding but the concepts elude me.
Can someone smart please explain the disk structure of a Galaxy S2 for me, cause I think it will help
GSM Arena says it has 16gb of flash and 1gb of ram.
I want to learn how the filesystem is partitioned in Android so I can understand it better (maybe some linux experience would help me)
So of the 16gb, I think 1.5gb is partitioned off for Apps, is that right? and the remainder is data?
Does my OS reside in the 1.5gb and all the stock Android Apps?
Where does the recovery ROM thing sit? (Clockworkmod) I want to visualise the disk structure so it makes sense to me.

[Q] Why 4096/0 smoothbean partitions sizes

I've been running latest SmoothBean for some time and it appears to be the most stable JB version out there. Always open to other opinions. I'm an old IT guy with years of Windows/Unix/Linux experience and I've had Mepis Linux on my desktop in the past, for 2-3 years, but went back to Windows 7/8. Anyway I noticed the install instructions say format the internal SD storage 4096/0 but it seems to run fine with 2048/0 so just wondering what the reasoning is for the increased partition size when it seems to run fine with 2048?
Also why 0 for swap size partition, doesn't Android need swap space similar to Unix/Linux OS's?
thanks in advance

The reason behind the bigger Data partition is that the cache is symlinked to a portion of the data partition rather then the standard cache partition on the nand. While testing I to ran it at 2048 without any issue, up until I added a crap load of apps that hogged up that partition. So maxing out the data partition was the recommendation. As far as adding swap space that is not necessary since the boot.img will not use it. There are scripts that can be made to add it, but it is pointless since Zram is far better and work. In a terminal Emulator app just type in (free) and you will see that swap is already recognizing the zram and using it.

[Q] Vivo Y22 Storage Too Small (and other questions)

Dear developers,
Recently I got a new phone Vivo Y22 with Funtouch OS v1.0 (Christmas present). Its was okay at first then it start telling me that storage has not enough space (with only factory apps and Clean Master). I realize the it had about 4GB internal storage but divided to 2 parts. 2.5GB for system space and 1.06GB as internal storage. In system space, i have only 150mb left I always need to use Clean Master to wipe cache before I download anything. I tried Link2SD, I formatted my SD card and set 4GB partition as EXT2 but did not detect. Same goes for EXT3 and EXT4. It only works for FAT32 but some files cannot be linked using this format. Read some threads in web, they mentioned some phone does not support EXT2,3,4 format. Maybe this is my case? I tried to look for informations about Vivo Y22 but very less and worst, some of them is in chinese.
So the 1st question is: How can I increase the system space? Could I adjust the system space to occupy my more of my Internal Memory?
Second question is, how do I update my phone from JellyBean to KitKat? Do I follow tutorials that uses the same Chipset (Y22 uses MediaTek MT6582)? How if I want to install custom ROMs like CM11 (can't find Vivo Y22 in Device section in CM site so i presume it is not supported?)? There is very less information about rooting and flashing when it comes to this phone. I only manage to root the phone using tutorials given for some other chinese phone.
Thanks in advance..

Did you ever manage to fix this? I'd love to root my Y22 and put vanilla Android on there but can't find how to do it. The memory problem is useless on this phone.

Really messed up Dual Boot :(

Hi everyone,
About a month ago I attempted to install dual boot Ubuntu Touch and Android on my Nexus 7 2012. I tried to install it by flashing the raring-preinstalled zip file but did not realise that there was another way to dual boot by using the app... The zip file shrunk the Android partitions and created the necessary Ubuntu Touch partitions. I know it's quite stupid of me but when I tried to restore using TWRP backup, it restored but when I looked at the amount of internal storage, I only had 6GB, compared to the actual 32GB!
Basically I need some help to remove the Ubuntu Touch partitions and enlarge the Android partitions back to normal.

Allview P5 Life MTK8382 Internal Storage

Hey there!! Maybe you can give me some advice on how I can modify the partition system on this device. The internal storage has 2 partitions, one of 0.98GB and the other of 4.94GB. The problems is only the small one can be used for apps. Is there anyway in which I can increase the size of the small partition?? The device is rooted and I have TWRP installed on it. If you need any new information ask me. Thank you friends.
