Problem with ROM installation after IMEI repair with box - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to share with you a problem I had with my phone (I9300):
1. I upgraded the firmware to 4.3 through KIES.
2. Than i downgraded to version to 4.1.2 but did not back up EFS.
3. IMEI + SN were corrupted.
4. After many unsuccessful attempts to recover the IMEI-I had to go to the lab and restore the IMEI + SN with a box (i think it is z3x).
5. IMEI + SN successfully recovered - Netwrok is back. Rom is now 4.1.1
6. I installed version 4.3 via ODIN (without modem). This time you backed up EFS.
7. IMEI + Basband = unknonwn. Of course there was no network.
8. I Replaced EFS from the backup - didn't help.
9. I installed modem.bin MG4 => IMEI + Basband + S/N recovered -network was not - (emergency call only)
10. Zuluman patch didn't worked
11. Downgrade to 4.1.2 caused lost IMEI + SN.
12. I Replaced EFS from the backup- IMEI recovered - but there was no network.
13. ariza patch did not work.
14. I went back to the lab restore the IMEI again.
The conclusion from this long story - after restoring IMEI with a box - it is impossible to upgrade/ replace Rom without losing network again.
every ROM installation will require IMEI repair with a box.
I wanted to get confirmation from the experts who deal with boxes to restore IMEI.

Why so much pain?
You should have flashed the modem from 4.3 when you have downgraded to 4.1.2. That would have been a simple fix.
Your issue is because the original EFS has a security checksum which is not present if your rebuild the IMEI with any box. This security checksum is checked by the modem to confirm if the EFS is genuine. Because of that, you will have to flash a patched modem (which bypasses the EFS checkum) each time you update to a new firmware. You will need this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601
Just don't keep trying random things. Do everything step by step. Do you have a backup before you had the IMEI repaired with a box?

Unable to move from 4.1.2 to any ROM

Hi Guys,
I already posted a thread that I was not able to connect to network after upgrading to 4.3. here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554836
I have successfully solved the no network problem with the help of the patched mg4 modem and moving back to my stock 4.1.2 Samsung ROM
Now i decided that i will backup my EFS this time and do everything perfectly and try the leaked 4.3 European release and did all the backups like EFS pro backup in PC and also Aroma Installer EFS backup to SD and Internal card.
I have got the complete EFS backup and hence I wanted to try the new 4.3 Leaked firmware
I downloaded the ROM flashed via odin and rooted it and again "no network" error and tried to restore the EFS pro backup from PC
But it kept saying"your device is not perm rooted, only qualcomm tools available"
So i downloaded supersu 1.80.apk and flashed the zip file.Still same error.
So i flashed the aroma EFS installer again and restored the EFS and it was successful
I restarted the phone and i thought the network will be back as i restored EFS but again i faced "no network"
I then flashed the patched mg4 modem again and then too same problem.
I did not know how to solve this though i rightly backedup and restored EFS
The only solution now was to do like before and go back to stock UAE 4.1.2 and flashing the patched modem.
I got the network back.
So i beleive the only way to use my phone with network is to stay with the UAE 4.1.2 stock ROM and any other ROM will give me "no network issue" though I have the EFS backup correctly? I can never upgrade right?
Can the experts tell me where im doing a mistake if there is something wrong in my methods.
Waiting your replies
Thanks in advance

I9100 loose imei, restored, lost again after few reboot

Hello, i have a problem with my phone and imei.
When i reboot i loose imei, i can restore and if i put my sim card after boot, i can use it. If i reboot i go back to 004999....
Any ideas ?
Tried flashs back to 2.3 4.1.2 and current on cyanogen11
I see my nvdata.bin.md5 and the md5.bak are not the same
Is this the source of problem ?
I get my imei back with gs2 repair , it does correspond to my imei. The problem is if i do chmod 755 nv_data.bin, i get a 04999... Imei ...
Could get it back:
Flashed 2.3.5, rooted, used gs2_repair, chowned nv_data.bin -> imei ok
Flashed 4.1.2 imei ok, but no pin request.
Flashed cwm6 installed cm10.1.3 : imei and pincode ok. Call ok.
Flashed cm11: imei goes 04999
Why is this happening in cm11 and not cm10.1.3?
Is it permission on a file in efs ?
I would like to go cm11. Again

[Q] EFS restore error

Hello, I'm new member in here. Today I flashed UltimaROM to my SGS3. Before the flashing I installed Philz touch recovery and saved Nandroid, modem and EFS backups in my PC. After the flashing no IMEI number was shown and I got a message saying " Insert SIM card....". So i tried to restore EFS in custom restore option in philz recovery. Even though it showed restore successful , IMEI number is still unavailable and i couldn't connect to mobile network. I also tried ktools to restore efs but no result. Can someone please help me regarding this issue.
What version firmware did you have before you first flashed? If it was really old then that could be the problem.
Flash a 4.3 stock rom, factory reset them boot and see if your efs is read again.

Thanks for the reply. I had 4.1.2. If I flash 4.3 stock ROM can i retrieve my IMEI ?
If you flash a 4.3 stock it will update your efs to v2 and should enable it to be read in all newer firmwares.

Unknown BaseBand (No IMEI, No Device ID)

Hello,
After a fail flash custom rom, my phone got bricked. Somehow, i recovered it.
But now, i'm facing two major issues : No IMEI, No BaseBand (Wi-Fi is still working.)
I've tried every single post concerning : Restoring Imei and Restoring EFS partition.
(When i tried to restore the EFS partition following this guide : https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/flash-recover-efs-snapdragon-t3406789 . It requested me a password after booting)
Please help me, it'll save my life :crying:
