Request for development: boot/system images - Dell Venue

Could someone please upload a copy of the boot.img and the system.img?
I do not own the tablet but I do intend to develop. I have the kernel and intend to do a KitKat build.

How do I extract those for you to use?

You'll need to find out which block is the system image, and the pull a dd dump. Same with boot

the first command gives this error message:

I tried to dump with dd but it kept giving me access denied due to a lack of root.

Nope, not at all, we've been at it for a couple weeks trying to get root but none of us are developers.
Here's our rooting thread detailing things we've tried: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520166
and here's the thread I started about the unlocked bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551863
If you can get root that will be great because we've tried everything that doesn't require dev work like exploiting and etc. We don't even have CWM or TWRP either.

Yeah, I currently don't have one, and I figured you guys had root already.
I'm the only developer for the Dell Streak 7.

We would highly appreciate it if you were able to develop for the Dell Venue 7 and 8 (pretty much the same tablet, difference is screen size and SoC speed, the 7" uses Intel Atom Z2560 and the 8" uses Intel Atom Z2580).

You can first trying adb connecting first, it is meaningless to get the files unless you get adb connected in recovery

for original recovery, you don't need to back it up as it is available there:

Custom Recovery Progress- Success, coming soon.

Got TWRP recovery mostly ported. Need to add dual sd mount feature so you guys can flash roms from external and internal sd cards.
I'm willing.
I'm not seeing this device specifically mentioned though. Do I just do the all other supported device version then? Haven't done this before as my Incredible 2 had Revolution X.
Hey con, good to see you here as well. I was also a Rez forum veteran, happy to be with the Dinc4g now. How's your nexus rolling?
I went on the HTCdev site, and unlock of bootloader is successful!
Since you have unlock I can probably port a One S recovery since you have basically the same hardware.

Update
Update: I have some good news and some bad news (mostly bad)
Good News: I have unlocked the bootloader
Bad News: the unlock is not permanent(?) but I might be able to fix that, just need some the run the following comands in terminal emulator and give me the files that were made:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/sdcard/recovery.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p32 of=/sdcard/devlog.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p29 of=/sdcard/system.img
If anycone can run these (on stock w/o recovery that would be great!
I'm going to try to help. I have a stock DEV edition, non-rooted. It has been 3 years since I messed with ADB, so I will probably need some hand holding

You don't need a computer it's fairly simple just download terminal emulator from the play store and run the commands the output files will be on the root of the internal storage so if you could just upload those that would be great

EDIT* darn it, i forgot yours is a dev phone. so root may be different..... sorry. i was just so excited about this news.
Yep. That's for an ME7. My dev phone is OYUAMDK. As far as I understand, the MDK root methods wipe the recovery or the kernel, depending on the method. I think the OP is asking for both to be intact so he can get copies. I'm not rooting until I hear from the OP.

Most likely no, since the major differences between 1x.3.2.1 and 1x.3.2.2 are updates for Amazon's WhisperSync. There is no change to the recovery and kernel(s) so any root method for one should likely work on the other too.

The answer should be obvious... because Lab126 had months of progress and development to incorporate new features/capabilities, fix existing bugs, patch known rooting exploits, and reinforce system vulnerabilities in 1x.3.1.0. All these foolish and tiresome questions are not going to get root any faster folks...

Your factory reset should reset everything in the current update, so no, unfortunatly not. However, there might be a way to revert back. I have been playing about a lot with ghe updates but they don't work by manually downgrading. A possibility is that on the .bin file there is a build prop the build of which is always checked, so if we change the build props name then maybe itl update? Ill give it a try and tell you how things go. In a bit!

I temp rooted mine with dirty cow, however it gained me very little. There are three main obstacles: 1) SELinux prevents most things from working, because each program runs within a tight security context, 2) using dirty cow causes the kernel to not save changes to the partition (it doesn't want to write a corrupted partition to disk), in other words a r/w /system is useless, even when you can finally write to it, 3) using dirty cow on the most attractive programs (from a permissions perspective) causes "little" problems like the screen going off.
I've been monitoring another XDA thread (sorry, link is at home) where they are working through these issues on another device. There are various approaches and workarounds, but they currently all involve way more risk than I can justify for a $500 phone.
AIUI, once you've got root, you need to be able to put selinux into permissive mode, but surely getting temp root is a start?
Can you not install systemless root?
If I got the dates right, the phone kernel should be affected by this bug. A proof of concept seemed to be promised by the reporter in the next few days. http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2016/q4/607
Will be interesting to see how it compares to dirty cow as far as access.

Please note that the phone is 64-bit. This is source code that requires compilation and additional code to do anything useful. Prerequisites include the NDK and related build tools installed via Android Studio. I run Linux so it was relatively painless, but I imagine it might be more of a challenge under Windows.

Hi. I know this thread is about the Lenovo Phab2 Pro and I have the Lenovo Phab2 but maybe someone can help me. I tried what was suggested on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/phab-2/how-to/how-to-root-phab-2-pb2-650y-t3524305 But it seems I screwed up and now the phone gets stuck in the Lenovo sign. I'd really appreciate some help since I just bought this phone 2 days ago and now I can't use it. I can access TWRP but it seems there's nothing in /system. I think maybe that's the problem. I'm no expert but since I had rooted and downgraded and upgraded firmware several times on my previous phone, a LG G3. I thought maybe I could do this. I shouldn't have If someone can help me I'd really appreciate. Thanks in advance.
I was able to fix this. Sorry to have bothered.
Hi,
I've been able to get proper root access on this phone. One new problem I am facing is that the tango camera and sensors doesn't seem to work. Normal camera works just fine.
Is this related to the rooting or can it be anything else entirely?
Edit: Never mind. I was able to fix it without having to remove the root. Apparently 'Tango Core' didn't have permissions to access camera. I am not sure how that got reset. So I gave access to it and now it works just fine.
