[q] gti-9300 help help help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really apologize if these questions have been answered before, I am very new to this forum and can't seem to find the answers to a few questions I have.
My husband and I have Samsung Galaxy S3 GTI-9300's from Thailand. We bought them when we were traveling there and brought them home here to Canada. We are unlocked and are on the Rogers Network.
First of all, is there anyway to reload onto the phones the English versions of everything? When we go into the Samsung Apps App everything is in Thai, as well as any of the other apps that were already loaded on the phones.
Second, we are starting to have charging problems. I've read through a few of the threads on here about installing the Charging Checker app. I did that, and it wasn't reading anything, there were no numbers across from the min and max words. I bought the paid version of the app as well, and still nothing. I tried a few chargers, a blackberry one that fits, the one that came with the phone (which is crap) and a car charger. All of them are showing no values. Is there a brand/make/model of a charger that is available in North America that is good? I thought it was just my husband that was having trouble, so we switched batteries, and now I'm having trouble and so is he, even after he had my great battery.
If anyone could help me that would be great! Since we are not locked into a major provider, and didn't purchase our phones from them, I feel a bit lost and alone out there trying to figure this out!
I do understand some things about phones, but if there is an involved process or action, could you show me the steps to complete it?
Thanks a bunch everyone!

Flash stock rom for your region via Odin .

>> Its not simple and may void warranty or brick your phone .
Suggest asking a repair centre to flash it for you .

[Q] Galaxy s2 Brick

Hey,, I recently got my galaxy s2 and im new in the android thing,, i want to flash my phone to litening rom but im worried that i might brick it,, what are the chances that i may brick my phone? tnx and more power
The risk is very small as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. Read from start to finish a few times before doing anything and double check everything. It's actually all very easy and straightforward
Edit: and have a look at the thread about backing up your EFS folder before flashing (you'll need root) it's in the dev section somewhere.

But how hard is it to really brick a SGS2 ?
I think i read about 1 person who couldnt get his phone up and running again .
SGS2 i belive is really hard to brick.
Sorry for my bad english
There are enough who totally brick a phone in the course of a year . But its hard to do plenty of oh hell moments but recovered flashing stock rom .
Brick tends to be a misused term SGS brick means it should work after flashing stock rom via odin . Other phones brick means dead phone return to factory no hope .

As long as you never tick "Re-Partition" and insert the PIT in Odin its almost imposable to brick unless you somehow nuke the bootloader(which you shouldn't be able todo via flashing custom roms).
I dont even think theres much of a chance of radio bricks, worst that happens is that you have to re-flash.

As long as one of the (secondary) bootloaders is still intact and you can get into download-mode (maybe by using the USB jig), then yes.

If the service centre can't fix (when I sent mine to one they told me it was beyond economic repair) don't lose hope as this guy will probably be able to repair it for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1602851
Ended up being cheaper than if my local service centre had been able to repair it too.
Being new to flashing I was also very scared at the start. I was pulling my hair out when the first time I flashed a new rom and got stuck in a boot loop. Luckily I backed up the entire system and I was able to restore.
Make sure you do a back up of your system first.
The first time its scary, I had no nails after the first flash lol. But after that its fun, just make sure to read everything and follow the instructions to the letter.
Good Luck!!
Sim card not recognized
I have rooted by galaxy s2 and my phone fails to recognize the sim card and unfortunately I didn't backup my original rom to restore the previous settings
I tried various things: hard reset, install alternative (custom) roms all seem to have no effect on the sim card.
I am getting quite frustrtated with this, is there an original ROM for my location (GREECE, VODAFONE) to try with odin ? I should note that my mobile seems not to connect with the PC when I try to connect it via kies (odin works instead)
Is there a possibility that the phone's card sensors are physically damaged, thus return it for repairs ?
Thanks for your time

SGS2 - Download mode but no recovery
Hi!
I have a bit of a problem here as well when i was trying to flash back to the stock firmware. Now when I try to get to the clockwork recovery mod, I get the famous dead screen with symbols of mobile phone, exclamation point and a pc. I have been searching solution to this problem for hours now, and still I don't want to quit.
My previous custom rom was installed in with no problems. Litening rom 3.0.
Now, with usb jig i can get into the download mode, no problem there. It just seems that the traffic is just jammed.
Download mode works but Odin doesn't transfer anything. Gets stuck on the factoryfs.img while i'm trying to flash. Kies doesn't recognize the phone but pc recognizes the USB device with no problem. Original stock firmware doesn't load on the phone. Odin just stops transferring.
Things I've tried so far.
-Reflash (both litening rom again and stock firmware) with odin (Kies is not on while I do this, I checked)
-Kies (doesn't work)
-Download mode does work but it seems that phone doesn't accept any files.
-I tried the one-click unbrick which seemed to do something god but failed at the end.
What could I still try? I'm running out of options now.
I apologize for my bad english.

[Q] Possibly not bricked?

Hi, I've gone through all search engines and am slightly confused whats going on.
I was trying to flash my sg2 today and it was at analyzing part of in my odin and was stuck at do not turn off warning, after waiting for 5 minutes, nothing happened. Googled it up. various places (including this) suggested removing the battery and restart. However I pressed the power button first to power it down.... removed battery, poped everything back in. no response on phone, tried hard reset combo, nothing, removed battery couple of times, just no response. I take the phone is bricked?
However what really makes me doupt is, I plugged phone into charger. phone was hot at that point. So I left it for another half hour, came back. It was still quite hot - i mean the cpu must be working to generate that kind of heat. So I am just wondering, is it still def bricked or since cpu is working there could be a way to it?
P.s. I know its carrier specific, but if I have insurance, will self flashing/upgrading ur phone without official release void the warranty?
small update, I removed battery for 15 minutes, to let it cool down, touched it, it was all cool, put the battery back in - and 5 mins later, the cpu area is all hot.....yet no buttons are working... at least the hard reset is not responding....

Flashing stock Samsung rom may void sellers warranty but Not Samsung warranty .
Custom roms or rooting voids all warranty .
Flashing wrong rom may void warranty .
I would presume any flashing voids any insurance .

I should also clarify, it all went fubar after following these instructions for DarkyRom:
Unzip the BASE ROM into one folder. It should have a file PDA. Open ODIN now (I use 1.7), in the PIT file option, select the pit 512 file. This should automatically tick the repartition option in ODIN 1.7 (if not, make sure it's ticked). Select the PDA file in the PDA Box. Connect your phone to the PC, make sure it's connected. Click start, wait for it to finish. Close ODIN, let your phone Reboot.

you may need to try using the usb jig which typically forces it into download mode again. search "Samsung USB Jig" on ebay

Dude you messed up, that ROM is not for the SGS2 and neither are the instructions, You need a Samsung service center or a de-bricking service
what?
Damn I cant post links, well I got to it via samsware 2.3.5 leak announcement, there was a link to darkys custom rom, from there there was at top Beta noob guide, I clicked english version, I landed on the page that was called: Beginners/noob friendly guide to flash any BETA release and from there I ended up on the ...Final v10.2 - Official DarkyROM - Gingerbread (JVQ 2.3.4) - Noob-Friendly...
sigh, i didn't see it mentioning not being for sgs2, and since I got there by starting from sgs2 article, I thought they are all linked....
I've sent it to service...
where did I go wrong....
When you go to return it, do not tell them you flashed it. Always worked for me just playing dumb.

[Q] While charging, the S3 froze. Now there's no PIT partition. Is there a solution?

Hi everyone here on xda!
I've got an international, unbranded GT-i9300 16GB bought here in Italy (so I suppose it's the european version, stock roms I flashed ended with _ITV) on August 2012, so it should be still covered by warranty.
Yet there isn't any Samsung center nearby, so I suppose I should be sending it and it will probably take some time to even have an answer.
My phone was charging, I saw the led blinking with a blue light, so I tried to unlock it. No success.
A few hours before, the phone took a screenshot by itself without even touching it. (it took it the same way it does when you press POWER+HOME)
The situation is:
If I plug it to the charger, the battery animation appears, but is frozen. I don't know if it's charging or not.
The phone doesn't boot, it only shows the Samsung boot text.
I can't power off the phone, I have to remove the battery. It only reboots when I press the Power button.
I can't enter CWM Recovery nor the stock recovery, Odin fails to flash anything because says PIT partition is missing.
I can enter Download Mode, and it says:
Odin mode
Product Name:
Custom binary download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
I have read countless topics but I'm unsure if there's a solution, I only saw hundreds of people struggling to flash a ROM.
And, I'm a bit unsure on what to do now, do you know the answer to any of these questions?
1) Is there a solution to this problem, something that I can do at home?
2) Is this a case of Sudden Death Syndrome? Should it be caused by a motherboard failure?
3) If I try or manage to flash a new PIT file (unlikely, I saw that everyone with this issue couldn't) and something goes wrong, can the situation get any worse?
4) Should Samsung repair it since it should be under warranty, even if there's that Custom under System status? Should I insist if it refuses to?
5) If someone managed to solve this issue, did they receive a new phone, or the same phone with their own data? Do they also make a deep clean?
6) What is Samsung's average time to fix this issue when it receives the phone?
7) Is there a way to access the phone's internal memory to recover some data in this situation?
8) Which PIT file should I be flashing? Does it make sense to flash just the PIT file, or should I also flash a 3-file stock rom at the same time? Did someone fix this issue by doing so?
Thanks in advance for your time and your patience
EDIT:
I've been searching around the forums and i see that if Odin is giving that error there's nothing you can do. Just send it to your nearest service center for repair.

No warranty is void .

Data is on the motherboard and lost .

Well then, thanks for your answers and your time
I think I have no choice... I recovered my phone from various other situations, but I suppose I should have updated my Android version sooner, I was about to do it soon, matter of days.
It still bugs me the fact that I'll have to pay 200$ for a defect that is notoriously not related to the use of the phone, but to a production vice/bug.
Isn't really a way to restore my device status to Samsung Official in this state?

[Q] S3 I9300 Stuck on safe mode

Hi friends, after a lot of research and web searching i'm totally out of ideas and options
The problem: My S3 I9300 reboot in safe mode every time, is has been doing it since the past sunday. Another tip is that the volume buton down seems not work but only in CM Recovery or in the running software itselfs, it work correctly in donwload mode since i can reboot by presin the buton down. Another interesting fact is thath when I reboot the phone it start the led until it comes the Galaxy S 3 Logo (by presing the button down it power downs the led).
The posible solutions:
Reboot
Reboot after take the battery for a few minutes
Reboot after take the battery out for hours
Flash Custom Cyanogenmod
Flash back stock s3 Jelly Bean (various ROM)
Try to press volume up, volume down, menu capacitive, back capacitive keys and nothing.
Take it to technical service (every one say it was software, but want to charge me a lot of money, talking about an hardware box "especially for flash samsungs")
I have done all the things that I expose before and possible anothers that I don't remember right now, and nothing works, it continuos rebooting into safe mode.
I have too read a lot on google and here and any of the posted solutions works for me.
Do anyone know how to solve this?
Really need help, thanks you all before hand!
Read the sticky thread efs 'know this stuff', safe mode is usually related to efs corruption.
efs + safe mode
Thanks for the answer, I checked the post about efs, and i dons't mention Safe mode anywhere, but mentions factory mode, i'm thinking that maybe replacing the efs with te back up that i did that will solve the problem, but in safe mode you can't use any app like root explorer or similiar, and my back up is a mere copy of the folder efs, not tar not zip not md5. any helpfull guide about this?
PD: im reading on internet and searching thanks!
hardware failure
Hi, I take the phone to repair services, they said to me it's the logical main board that has a fail and that is causing the phone to go in Safe Mode every reboot, the cost of repair it is almost the price of the s3 new so i need another solution.
I believe that the bootloader is resposable for sending the phone on safe mode, is anyway known to disable it?
Another possible solution is use some part of the ICS software since when i flash an ICS ROM it let me use the phone and don't send me to safe mode the problem is that it loses the IMEI and can't restore the efs folder because of the version change (i read here that JB have a different efs format thatn ICS)
Anyone ?

Galaxy Tab S6 SM-T865N using Odin To flash other country firmware on it

Hello,
I've purchased a Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T865N) International version, mainly to use it with with 4G in US on Xfinity Mobile. I received the tablet, inserted the SIM card and it was working 'relatively' on the network. Every now & then I would get a message 'failed to register to network', but for the most part, mobile data is working.
Since it is a Korea version, certain things don't work. Nothing major, but I would like to make it perfect. Certain User update posts in the Galaxy store display in Korean Language, and the weather app is slightly limited, with the error 'not available outside of Korea'.
I did some searching and found other firmware available for this exact model on Sammobile. My country (US) is not supported, but I would like to try the UK firmware, if nothing else, to fix some of the language issues. I downloaded the UK firmware package and Odin (3.13 & 3.14.1). I installed the Samsung drivers. I booted the tablet into recovery by holding 'power & volume up' then connected it to the computer. Odin WILL NOT found the tablet. I rebooted into the normal OS and connected it and Odin then found it, but obviously that doesn't work. I can not get Odin to connect while in recovery.
Does anyone have suggestions on what might be happening?
And maybe all this effort isn't worth it either, hard telling whether it'll work better or worse with the UK firmware on it. Any tips?
It's been several years since I did this sort of thing, so I'm a little rusty. I thought this would be a simple procedure.
it sounds to me like you are not putting it into download / Odin mode, but I could be wrong. I haven't tried to use Odin on this tablet yet, but was actually about to do this same thing as well, as my device has an origin CSC of singapore, and hasn't had an official update in almost 2 months, so I was going to flash the UK version as well.
---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:51 PM ----------
So I just tested it on my tablet, here is what you need to do:
Power off the device
Press and hold the Volume up button and then press and hold the power button
When you see the initial boot screen, release the power button, but keep holding volume button
When you get to the recovery screen, you need to use the volume up / down buttons to highlight the option that has "bootloader" in the title, and press the power button to select it.
Then you should see a screen that says "Download" or something like that.
Plug in USB, and Odin should see the device.
Yeah, you're booting into recovery, you need to boot into Download mode - Hold both volume up and down whilst inserting the USB-C cable to enter Download mode.
Your correct

Your Correct. Device needs to be plugged into the pc for it to boot to the screen that shows all the info. I wonder why they made this a requirement. Its very unintuitive. I also didn't see it documented anywhere. How did you find out about this ? Thanks again for the help!

You wouldn't happen to have that firmwire file handy / a way to share it online would you? Sammobile's free download server is down right now, and I was going to try to flash it this weekend.

Your Correct. Device needs to be plugged into the pc for it to boot to the screen that shows all the info. I wonder why they made this a requirement. Its very unintuitive. I also didn't see it documented anywhere. How did you find out about this ? Thanks again for the help!

Sorry, I dont. I meant to make that post in another thread. I have not flashed anything on my device yet.
I have the same Korean model SM-T865N 4G LTE version with the latest firmware.
Can I flash it using Odin with the latest frimware for UAE?
I mean the one with CSC code XSG (XSG - United Arab Em)
AP VERSION T865XXU2BTC7
CSC VERSION T865OJM2BTC7
Besides i have another issue with my speakers as they are not working for some reason? I tried reset both soft and hard without luck. It always get stuck on rebooting many times but after many times i got it to reboot BUT i can only have sound from bluetooth headphones!!

Did you able to flash that firmware on your tablet?
IF you mean did I succeed in flashing it through Odin then yes BUT unfortunately I couldn't get it to reboot correctly & it takes a lot of time trying to reboot but still no luck. So, I took it to a repair shop & they told me it needs new motherboard !! How can this be even possible IF I still can get it to connect to Odin and download the firmware successfully BUT no luck in getting it to reboot correctly!!

Have you tried reflashing the old firmware of your country? Weird that its not working.
I did try that and managed to flash it successfully to the old firmware using Odin but unfortunately I still couldn't get it past a full reboot as it got stuck after a long time and it takes me to the Android System Recovery screen wherein also tried to 'wipe cache partition.’ and try reboot again but I still end up with the recovery screen!

Can't you put in a warranty claim ? Here where i am based i had a new battery, and new screen installed from samsung! this was a Galaxy S8+ was well over 2 years old they did it for free! New screen and new battery! My Note 9 is going this monday for a new battery my Tab S6 works flawlessly so don't need to send that in! but i'm sure if you ring up Samsung they will replace the motherboard for free as it's not even 12 months old!
