Noob related questions - HTC EVO 3D

Yesterday I unlocked my bootloader, got TWRP recovery, got S-OFF and rooted my phone. Is there anything else important I need to do?
I also got ext4, which i believe got rid of TWRP because now i can't find it. Which is better?
I flashed a new kernel, but it broke the wifi, there were no wifi modules so I returned to stock kernel. I'm using Flash Image GUI. Is that the best way to flash roms and kernels? Something's telling me its not.
On a related note what seems to be the best overall kernel + rom configuration? I know its opinion based but from what I've seen there's not much descriptive information on roms and kernels.
This is my first HTC device, help much appreciated.

4 ext recovery is recomended for Evo. Personaly I always flashed my kernels via recovery (same as ROM flashing but wipe cashe and dalvik only). As for ROM kernel combo, that's up to you and your phone. My best combo might not even work on your phone, so it's flashing time for you. Flash away and find what works the best

Might sound stupid but is there any instructional video for using ext4? I've never used this recovery and want to make sure I'm flashing kernels and rooms correctly.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

I don't know about tutorials but it's easy. Before flashing just wipe everything except SD card ( you can do this twice, just to be sure there are no leftover files) and choose zip file to flash. Always flash ROM first. You can flash kernel right after the ROM but I always boot my ROM, let it settle for few minutes and then boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash kernel. That's all there is to it. You can also fix permissions after you flash the ROM but I never did it and had no problems.

So i can flash a JB rom before i flash a JB kernel?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

Yes because all ROMs come with kernels, so if you don't like the kernel you got with ROM, just flash another one. You know you can't flash JB ROMs on certain h-boots right?

Verizon is CDMA. So is Virgin Mobile which is what i have.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

Sorry, I got something mixed up. I was on GSM so I can't tell you about h-boot but you should find the answer to that in Evo CDMA development section
Sent from my Nokia 3310 using Tapatalk

If you want to flash jb or kitkat, you need to change your hboot to 1.50 or lower.
Make sure you are flashing cdma files, the ones for gsm will cause many headaches and potential brick.
There is a thread somewhere with the cdma hboots, I will try and find it

Yeah I'd like to get JB or even KK.
Not sure what's the best.
For example the XPERIA PLAY works best on GB roms because of game play compatibility. Not sure is the evo V has any of these catches.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

Kitkat is still in testing
Jb mostly work well
Ics is solid
Gb is solid
General rule of thumb is if its anything other than ics sense, you need 1.50 or lower....I recommend jbear 1.50.5050
Post 7 has all the downloads

So what do i flash these zips with?
All this HTC crap seems difficult...
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

First make a nandroid backup and backup your app data and such
Then you'll want to flash a Rom that boots with both hboots (1.57(58) and 1.50)
There's a bunch but I know butterz sense does work
Then put jbear 1.50 zip on the root of your sd
Rename that file pg86img.zip
Reboot to bootloader and accept the update
Reboot the phone
Now make sure you remove or rename that pg86img.zip
Now you can reboot to bootloader and verify your hboot changed
If its changed you're good to go flash jb, kk, or gb:thumbup:

I think i follow you, besides the part where i download and rename jbear 1.50, i don't know where to find that. Google didn't help.
*EDIT*
Ignore that last post, I'm on 1.50 with s-off now, thanks!
However, this is the second rom now that has broke my wifi, why is that? I haven't activated my phone yet so wifi is the only way i connect to the internet on my phone
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

Try flashing the ROM again without wiping anything (dirty flash). That may solve your wi-fi issue

I forgot the latest butterz did that.

Stock rom and updates? will it work

my phone is rooted and i just put the stock rom on it (Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_odex.zip) after having a different rom my question is when ICS update comes in 2 weeks (for sprint users in the usa) will the update work and be applied? or will i just get an error?
I believe you will also have to relock your bootloader and install the stock ruu which puts the stock recovery on.
I recommend that you wait until a dev comes out with a custom based off the ota. It will be more awesome.
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
That Sucks is there any way I could go back to stock stock so I can update threw HTC when released
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
NEVER EVER take an update when you are rooted. Every single guide to rooting tells you this.
There is no need to relock to take the update when it comes out. Just wait about an hour, and someone on here will have a flashable version of the stock rooted rom. Flash it like any other rom, simple as that, no need to worry about bricking.
Well I don't really care about it not being rooted any more

Just find the stock RUU for your phone.
Depending on whether your CDMA or GSM and what carrier.
It shouldn't be hard. Just use the search.
Then follow the instructions to flash it, make sure you have the stock HTC recovery and relock the bootloader.
Your phone will be stock!

[KERNEL] Rezound Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel (VIDEO FIXED)

Finally had time to get this out. Tested on ViperRez but should work on any Sense 4 ROM. This is the kernel from the newest OTA leak made for Sense 4. Many are saying it's the same as previous ICS kernels. I know this is not true because I can see in the ramdisk a lot of debugging code is removed. My phone does run quite a bit cooler with this kernel and definitely AT least has an extra hour battery life. YMMV.
Thanks to con247 for the update script making this compatible with both S-ON and S-OFF phones.
I don't know if the newest firmware is required for this kernel. I am using it and I do recommend it. You must be S-OFF to flash.
NOTE: you will lose fastboot flash commands with this hboot until you unlock or the new jpbear hboot is released.

If your not s-off you probably just have to flash the boot.img in hboot. Correct me if I am wrong, I just use the built in command in the resound all in one tool to flash custom boot.img

Can't flash sense 4.0 or higher after flashing a aosp Rom.

So after flashing aosp Rom I can't seem to flash anything other than sense 3.6 roms. Why I try I get a constant booting. I'm s-on and also I've noticed the roms with kernel zip built in. The PH98IMG doesn't install on ad card. But zips flashed in recovery do. Also bootfast isn't working either, even tho phone is recognized by computer. Any help would be appreciated on this thanks in advance.

if you can't get to fastboot then you have the zip from another file on there. delete that then in order to get that certain rom to work you have to extract the roms boot.img and fastboot flash on pc.

Personally I don't know if that would help, well....actually I don't see why it wouldn't cuz the s-off process will wipe everything.. I'd say do it and flash somethin fresh, don't nandroid after.. try a sense 4 Rom fresh.. if it still doesn't go id try flashjg another aosp Rom that is known not to cause this problem your havig, then try flashing s4 again.. I'm really curious as to why this is happening.. I'm not sure if any of this would help but these are the steps I personally would take to try and trouble shoot..

Crazy is, the problem seems to be something to do with kernels. I can only flash one all others even funky kernel with install thru fastboot, but the out come is the same. Continuous booting. At this point I don't see S-_OFF will fix the problem either. I ruued twice factory reset and used Scott's ten wipe and clean installs only to in up with the same out come.

I am getting this issue on NegaLite r109 but I didn't on r108. How do I enable Smart Flash. I'm using TWRP
I think twrp has a feature called dumbblock, but I don't know, just remember something along those lines.
Smartflash is a feature of 4ext recovery.
If you haven't tried it yet, you should.
Actually I think Butterz recommends you use 4ext to flash that Rom (that's how you get the add-ons)
If I remember right all you need to do is install the 4ext app, and you can flash recovery through the app.
If you have issues, I have the recovery.img file in my db. If you want it, pm me.

Flash Failure

Hey guys I have a note ii but one of my friends has an HTC One and she's having some trouble and I am unfamiliar with HTC stuff and need some help. She rooted and unlocked and has TWRP installed. I've tried flashing Roms thru TWRP and I can only get a stock build to flash sucessfully and even that failed on the first try but when I try to flash clean ROM it always fails and won't work. Any ideas what's going on? Thanks

Is her one S-off? If not, I believe you'll need to flash the bootIMG/kernel seperately thru fastboot . I'm guessing cuz I have HTC Evo LTE and it's the sane way if you're not S-off.
If you're unfamiliar, I bet there's guides stickied in general or Q&A.
Good luck.

You Do NOT need s-off to flash any current ROM's on the one. And you don't have to flash kernels separately like on older htc phones, so don't worry about that.
Honestly I really don't see why your having trouble with clean rom... What exactly is it doing when you try to flash it?
