[KERNEL] Rezound Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel (VIDEO FIXED) - HTC Rezound

Finally had time to get this out. Tested on ViperRez but should work on any Sense 4 ROM. This is the kernel from the newest OTA leak made for Sense 4. Many are saying it's the same as previous ICS kernels. I know this is not true because I can see in the ramdisk a lot of debugging code is removed. My phone does run quite a bit cooler with this kernel and definitely AT least has an extra hour battery life. YMMV.
Thanks to con247 for the update script making this compatible with both S-ON and S-OFF phones.
I don't know if the newest firmware is required for this kernel. I am using it and I do recommend it. You must be S-OFF to flash.
NOTE: you will lose fastboot flash commands with this hboot until you unlock or the new jpbear hboot is released.

Thank you! this new kernel is amazing. It last sooo much longer than the other ones, i was waiting for this

You don't need to be on the latest firmware to flash the kernel.

Thanks, trying now. Your a boss
I need all the battery life I can get now that I have 2 jobs

If s-off is it necessary to change the kernel download to PH98IMG???

The kernel seems to be running sweet bro thanks for the work.

If your not s-off you probably just have to flash the boot.img in hboot. Correct me if I am wrong, I just use the built in command in the resound all in one tool to flash custom boot.img
All in one tool

Just flash the zip in recovery it will place a PH98IMG.zip on your sd. Then just reboot to bootloader and it will install the kernel.
If you are s off you just flash the zip in recovery and your done

[Q] why is my com.phone.android stop responding on 2.17 based roms

So I updated all radios and firmware. However no matter what ROM I use that uses the HTC base 2.17 it says no signal and phone process stops responding. It's always about 3 hours into the ROM it happens. I came from a warm ROM and a virus ROM with the same results. I have hboot 1.4 s-off.

Fix permissions from Rom Manager or the advanced option in CWM and reboot.
If that doesn't help, it's just a bad flash. Don't fret. Do an RUU and re-update the radio. There is no point in updating the firmware because when you flash a new ROM, you're replacing it. Then you can go ahead and S-OFF, root, flash a custom recovery, flash a ROM and kernel, etc.

Trust me, after getting S-Off, flashing a recovery/hboot is the least of your worries. Generally, it will flash j-bear hboot so you're good. As for recovery, you do need to flash one.
Correct me if i'm wrong though.
I figured cuz I'm trying to do his steps n I was just wandering if it kinda starting fresh again u know after s-off get recovery ,root it , n go from there n the program doesn't come with an hboot so imma use a ph185.img n then flash 4ext

You shouldn't have to flash one, but once the process is complete, try rebooting into recovery to see if your custom recovery is still there, it usually is.

Help with CM10 S-On 2.09 H-Boot

I just rooted my Jewel and the only ROM I really want to try is stable CM10. I've read everywhere since I'm s-on it may not flash correctly. Is this true? I have the lastest H Boot and firmware and have not flashed any custom ROMs yet on this phone at least. Should I just flash it or should I do something else. I would appreciate any input.

Very true. I have an FAQ post for specific questions like this. And about 2 new posts a day are asking this same question.
Latest firmware: you need to downgrade using babyracun and then S-OFF. That'll fix your every issue.
Earlier firmware: fastboot flash boot boot.img
That'll flash the kernel for S-ON and allow your ROM to boot and work.

I'll be honest I read the DirtyRacun procedures and it looks like brain surgery. Wow what happened to simple flashing without all this extras? So if I want to stay simple and keep S-On I just need to flash the boot img before or after flashing CM10? Sorry for my noobness (which I am far from) but I've been out if the rooting game for awhile. Thank you very much for the help.

HTC happened. I did babyracun and facepalm within a few minutes. Far from any type of surgery. If you want to stay S-ON then you'll just need to use ROM's that are 3.16 based. No AOSP ROM will work with the latest touchpanel firmware. So... Just S-OFF. Its easy.

I am on engineering hboot, rage Rom, and phone said I have an update and after deferring it made me choose a date. I froze "updater" but am not sure that will stop the update. How do I ensure no update occurs short of switching roms? Also, will it try to update from VZW side anyway now?

Noob related questions

Yesterday I unlocked my bootloader, got TWRP recovery, got S-OFF and rooted my phone. Is there anything else important I need to do?
I also got ext4, which i believe got rid of TWRP because now i can't find it. Which is better?
I flashed a new kernel, but it broke the wifi, there were no wifi modules so I returned to stock kernel. I'm using Flash Image GUI. Is that the best way to flash roms and kernels? Something's telling me its not.
On a related note what seems to be the best overall kernel + rom configuration? I know its opinion based but from what I've seen there's not much descriptive information on roms and kernels.
This is my first HTC device, help much appreciated.

4 ext recovery is recomended for Evo. Personaly I always flashed my kernels via recovery (same as ROM flashing but wipe cashe and dalvik only). As for ROM kernel combo, that's up to you and your phone. My best combo might not even work on your phone, so it's flashing time for you. Flash away and find what works the best

Might sound stupid but is there any instructional video for using ext4? I've never used this recovery and want to make sure I'm flashing kernels and rooms correctly.

I don't know about tutorials but it's easy. Before flashing just wipe everything except SD card ( you can do this twice, just to be sure there are no leftover files) and choose zip file to flash. Always flash ROM first. You can flash kernel right after the ROM but I always boot my ROM, let it settle for few minutes and then boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash kernel. That's all there is to it. You can also fix permissions after you flash the ROM but I never did it and had no problems.

All this HTC crap seems difficult...
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
First make a nandroid backup and backup your app data and such
Then you'll want to flash a Rom that boots with both hboots (1.57(58) and 1.50)
There's a bunch but I know butterz sense does work
Then put jbear 1.50 zip on the root of your sd
Rename that file pg86img.zip
Reboot to bootloader and accept the update
Reboot the phone
Now make sure you remove or rename that pg86img.zip
Now you can reboot to bootloader and verify your hboot changed
If its changed you're good to go flash jb, kk, or gb:thumbup:
