Should I update to mk2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a rooted mj7 and I heard vroot still works for mk2 but since we're still waiting on a safe strap or unlocked boot loader will it come out faster on mj7

We don't know.

Not much hope in unlocked boot loader. Hash is starting work on ss port to mj7 if he can...as 4.3 is locked down way more than 4.2 and me7. I wouldn't do any otas whatsoever unless you want to lose ability.
powered by hashcode safestrap hyperdrive 10.2

Not much hope in an unlocked one but where there's a will there's a way and I'm never giving up hope on a Loki adaptation or any other kind of exploit. I'll never surrender.

Stock unrooted 4.3 rom

I have an mdk rooted s4 meaning that I can flash roms and other stuff like that through a recovery like twrp. I was wondering if there was a flashable zip for the new update , mj7, that is safe to flash and is unrooted. Thanks
Not unless you want to lose custom recovery and lok'd bootloader. A 4.3 rom will come out soon.

Oh. I was looking for something a little something like this where it has little to no modifications http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274795

The update just came out so give the devs a some more time and you'll get a stock mj7 rom for your lok'd s4.

Recovery on 4.3 mk2?

So I took the risk and rooted my AT&T S4 with kingo. The only issue is that I can't get a recovery installed. Is there any way to get CWM installed or should I use safestrap?

[Q] Root method for MK2 on i545?

Verizon S4 i545 VRUEMK2
Was rooted (vroot), updated to MK2 OTA and took away root.
Tried Kingoroot (google: cnet kingo) but after loading drivers it never gets past "connecting." The Kingo article was from October well before MK2 but I thought I would give it a try.
Is there currently a successful way to root MK2?
Thanks!
Yes there is it works great and easy to use.

Could not find the install.bat file so I used the script from mj7root-source.zip (a few posts down) with adb.
I am now rooted on Verizon i545 MK2.
Thanks!
Glad it worked for you.

MJ7 means no KitKat?

I have safestrap installed with hyper drive running, right now. My question is whether I'll ever be able to install kitkat?
Am I only able to install 4.3 roms with safestrap?

Yes for now only 4.3 TW Roms for you. And I'd wait on updating to 4.4,via ota until people figure out how to root it and implement SafeStrap. May be a while

kitkat will be next OTA why would you think you won't be able to have it?
now, there is no safestrap for andriod 4.4 and root I don't think is available yet either.

I'm sure the poster meant even after the OTA comes out, he won't be able to stay on 4.3 with Safestrap and install a custom 4.4 Rom.

I assumed he was referring to flashing custom ROMs based on 4.4.2?
U will be able to flash a kitkat rom when/if hashcode can figure it out for safestrap users

Just bought a rooted phone of swaapa

As the title says, I just received my phone from swaapa. after my s4 mdk version broke. The phone is rooted and it's running 5.0.1 I'm not familiar with this version. So for safety measures can some one link the restore file you would use to restore it back to stock (the one used in odin).

There is no way to put the phone back to MDK. However, the info in this thread will give you some guidance on downgrading to KitKat and keeping root, among other things. 5.0.1 isn't bad. I'm running stang5litre's debloated 5.0.1. I bought my SGS4 from Swappa, as well. It was not MDK, either, so I'm limited to what ROM's I can run. Hope this helps.
Is it AOSP or touch wiz? If its aosp it's likely to have an mdk bootloader. Can you give us a screenshot of your "About Phone" in settings?

It's currently running a tw rom but I'm able to use twrp so I'm not sure cause other versions use that other recovery.

So, my only guess is he has an MDK bootloader with the stock 5.0.1 TW installed.

Don't flash a stock ROM in Odin. If you do that you will loose the MDK bootloader forever. You're a lucky person, you can flash whatever you like right now, whether it is a TouchWiz or AOSP. If you loose the MDK bootloader you loose the ability to bootloader bypass exploit.

Yes, or you could just update TWRP to the latest version and try a 5.1.1 CM based ROM. I recommend Exodus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3135866
